Just goes to show how much I take notice of the champions league now, only found out tonight's game was on when I got a phone call from a friend who told me he was watching the game. And I never knew Chelsea played last night at all until I checked my phone to see their score.

Indeed. And everyone was losing their **** over it being ditched last week!

All part of the same issue really.

The argument was that interest in it was diminishing so why not replace with something that was quite different.

The concern was that this was such an important tournament that it should stay and continue to be open to teams that qualify.

If it wasn’t important and still exciting for everyone then why worry too much about protecting qualification for it?

Agreed. Don't know how many times I've said United could be a top side again, if only they upgraded both centre backs. The thing is, at £80 million, nobody will buy Maguire and for that money he's always going to play. He's a mediocre centre back, in my opinion.

I can't agree with that. The first one he basically stood on the guy's foot. It's a foul, get on with it. How have we allowed things like that to become bookings? He’s inconsistent for Scotland. I like him when he’s good but often he’s either average or very poor.

He actually looked better to me when he was younger, playing in a more advanced position. Playing deep he’s just not that great.

Another thing I hate: the absence of crowds means the constant screaming by players when they are tackled is very clear on TV. It shouldn't be, that's the point. He stood on the guy's foot; it's a foul, why risk a guy being sent off for something so trivial? A booking should be a final warning that a player is on thin ice. What the hell have we come to when a final warning is issued for standing on a guy's foot?

Imagine a player like Souness, for example, trying to play the game today? I'm not advocating dangerous play, but there has to be room for physicality, and FIFA are deliberately removing it piece by piece.

So it doesn’t matter that he stopped an attack, stopped the possibility of a team scoring, because he only stood on his foot? If you don’t want booked don’t get megged in the middle of the pitch, don’t dive in on the edge of your box. Very simple and nothing ‘non contact’ about it.

It’s not up to the ref to try and keep 11 players on the park, that’s for the players to do.

Well anyone then who enjoyed the tackling aspect and winning back the ball. It's difficult now, due to law changes. A foul for standing on the foot is fair enough, but a final warning, when a player hasn't committed any previous fouls? This is yet another game ruined. I just think the game has gone way too far in removing all contact. It's meant to be a contact sport, after all.

It was a foul, I agree. But why a final warning via a yellow for that? It isn't dangerous play or even close. If you cynically want to stop an attack, stepping on somebody's foot isn't the most effective way.

I suppose it's a question of how one looks at the game. For me it's being killed by stuff like this. And then there's VAR and it's impact upon reviewing 'fouls'. Man, that could be end completely.

You do know what's how football used to be for over a hundred years? Even as recently as the 1980s and 1990s, that wouldn't have been a booking. Now it can spoil a game as a spectacle. McGregor was an idiot for the second tackle, which definitely was a booking, but that doesn't negate the fact the first one was a nonsense, in my humble opinion. Now everything is a foul and a booking. I'm telling you, we are being slowly but surely being 'guided' into a non contact sport.

It isn’t, but that’s your opinion. You can still tackle, you can still be physical. There’s a limit though and I watch football for attacking play, not tackles. If a player isn’t good enough to stop an attack legally, then he should be booked if it stops a dangerous one. There’s been plenty of fouls today that haven’t been bookings, the yellows there has been have been justified.

Me too, BH. The second was a booking, certainly, but this problem of bookings and sendings off, for what are not very serious infringements, is taking away some of the enjoyment for many of us. Results are being altered, games spoiled for spectators, and players are being suspended because referees are under instruction to be extremely inflexible and harsh. It's been a bug bear of mine for years, and it's getting worse. VAR is making it much worse, too. Everything is micro-analysed and examined to death. The disallowed McTominay goal at Spurs the other week was the last straw for me, and I switched off right then. That's where we are heading.

Listening to sportsound, seemingly lowest Celtic points total in over 20 years

Huge job ahead for the next manager there. It needs a complete re-build; he will need backing in the transfer market, but have they the required funds?

Sky sports showing a muppet picking up camera gear and then smashing it on the floor.

Game in doubt?
Seriously stupid individual, he'll be face to face with a judge early this week methinks.....

Looking at their 20 man squad today, think at least 9 will be away in the summer
That’s a massive number

Good. Peaceful protest is fine; civil disobedience is fine, but it must be completely peaceful. No excuse for any damage or/and violence.

Though it goes against many grains I’m glad Rangers won or at least didn’t lose - from a Hibs POV we might need them hungry to complete the unbeaten season on the last day.

And in the interests of fairness: take a look at the booking of Simpson for Rangers. He jumps up for the ball with Edouard, might have brushed against him, might not. Edouard screams, hits the deck holding his head - yellow card. That's a defender on a final warning for God only knows what. Scandalous that the game has been allowed to reach this point.

I agree with you in this one H&A, barely a foul never mind a yellow

Pasting for celtic. Gerrard will be rubbing his hands. Had last season completed, he'd had been out a job imo. They're fans were going against him

Don’t know about unbeaten, but they might need to beat Aberdeen

Looking at Celtic I fancy us to take something from them. Their players chucked it weeks ago (if not months)

And such cards are everywhere, which is my point. The authorities will defend yellows like that; it wasn't an exceptional case. These cheap cards and the rules about what justifies them are completely out of hand, IMHO. It's taking so much away from the enjoyment.

Agree with you about Gerrard. He was under pressure at the point the season was suspended.

The Premier League have released a statement saying Man Utd will be hit with a severe penalty following the invasion of Old Trafford by fans this afternoon.

Bruno Fernandes will take it.

Souness is such a Tory bassa. Raging that the fans have the gall to take on the billionaire asset strippers. I can't stand the guy.
