While I don’t think Arteta could grumble too much if he was sacked if they don’t win the Europa league. The mess at Arsenal long pre-dates him and runs deeper than the manager or players IMO. Arsenal have been/are like Hibs under Petrie this last 6 or 7 years.

I think he’s made progress and slowly moving in the right direction but will take 2 or 3 years to get there as he has no money for the root and branch rebuild required. Getting rid of the expensive deadwood like Ozil, Mustafi, Kolasinic & Sokratis this season is a start but it’s quicker to list who they should keep and they are generally the youngsters & Tierney.

I don’t get why he doesn’t just play all of the youngsters in the league, Saka, Smith Rowe, Martinelli & Azeez & Balogun that are apparently highly rated, with a view to next season.

They’ve managed to convince most people that the votes at the end of last season were to demote Hearts or not. Including themselves it seems.

Reality of course is that without the votes they were almost certainly down anyway. 1 team every 10 years or so recovers from the position they were in.

Which is more than some of their fans would have had them do. Disappointed. I was looking forward to some high comedy - the players leaving the trophy sitting in a defiant gesture, which nobody really paid attention to and changed nothing. Instead they made an entirely sensible compromise.

I rest assured that hearts never go too long without things becoming farcical though.

The thing with VAR for me is the slowing of it down, and showing it over and over again in super slow mo, as if it’s trying to convince the ref to give a decision. Most of it is on the ref for actually making the decision but as soon as they are called over you know what’s coming. Think I’ve seen maybe once where a ref has stood by his decision.

It’s more the inconsistency I’m highlighting though, one video ref will review something, another won’t. As we know majority of EPL games are full of tourists - seems a few die hards are at the final and definitely adding to the game.
