He is on the level of guys like Wes Brown and Johnny Evans who United used to have as backup to the world class pairing of Ferdinand and Vidic.

I agree with that. Players do well a some clubs not so well at others quite often, style of play, tactics, management, environment, whatever. Van Der Beek was brilliant at Ajax hence United forking out for him, It just doesnt seem to be working out for the lad at the moment. I reckon his game is very suited to the Italian League.

I think he's a fabulous player. Apart from his ability and his workrate, he's a real team player and that's worth a lot.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a move to an even bigger club, because I think he'd be an asset to most teams.
