Why not good for us?? We are closer to Celtic than Livi in table just now

We aren't going to finish above Celtic. More chance of Livingston finishing above us

How bad is Man U passing, can't believe the money these guys make and can hardly string 4 passes together. They can't dictate play when they're pressed, so slow in the build up, Man U are a counter team.

Borderhibbie76

That’s true to be fair. I was more meaning for moving clear of Livi. Although you’re right, every week that passes Celtic look worse and worse.

Draw probably ideal for us mate tbh but Celtic are that bad just now why can't we catch them?

I know it's not the ideal time to make this point but I can't see us potentially needing to make up 11 points on Celtic (if they lose tonight they're still 5 points ahead with 2 games in hand.)

Livingston have just hammered us at home and if they win tonight they'll be 6 points behind with a game in hand and our next game is against Rangers.

We definitely want a Celtic win tonight.

2nd place is definitely a possibility for us but so is 5th. What the best result is for us tonight is obviously splitting opinion. I guess it depends on whether you want to aim for 2nd or avoid dropping to 5th.

Whilst all those things are true, I don’t think it’s out of the question to be slightly concerned about playing them in the final with how they’ve been playing. They’ve been on a run that I can’t think of Hibs having been on similar in the top tier in my lifetime?

This 360 degree multi camera angle on bt sport; has anyone noticed if it’s available on the game reruns or can you only view those angles just for the live games as they happen ? It’s an amazing coaching tool if nothing else.

I know martindale has an eye on the semi final but they were on a cracking runand momentum can change very quickly. Lose tonight leaves them nine behind us with one game in hand. If they lose the semi final suddenly every fixture looks tougher and they are playing 8 games in 24 days so can see them dropping points. As always it’s what we do that matters but their back to back games v the dons followed by us having the dons at home will have a huge bearing on where everybody finishes.

While true, for a club like Livi the chance of a cup final is massive, and even a 5th place finish will likely get Europe this season.

All true. And we blew them away back in August. But with their new manager, they look like a different animal now. Defo wouldn’t be going in to a potential final with them with the cockiness I had as a 14 y/o bairn heading to Hampden back in 04 😅.

Looks like he's assumed defeat knowing Celtic have most of their top players back. If that's his assumption then his view will be why risk his best players with the Semi coming up.

I agree though, might end up doing more bad than good to Livi as it stops momentum.

in browns defence colum didnt look like he wanted to book anyone earlier duffy should have had a yellow but he wasted no time in flashing yellow when brown fouled. not sure this game should have continued as cant see lines on pitch clearly.says it all when gavin reilly couldnt get a game for carlisle makes duffy and co look like second raters.

I can see the lines. You need to adjust your TV's / device's settings. 😀

Big difference in the number of footprints in Celtic’s half than Livingston’s.

Look how untouched the snow is in Livi's full back areas - Celtic play so, so narrow.

Did he stand on him afterwards. I only seen the incident a couple of times and it was idiotic but I think he also may have stood on the guy as he was lying on the ground. Moronic for such an experienced player but he is similar to Lennon and is a terrible loser and will swing out at the nearest target when it isn't going well.

Predictable would be the word I would use. There is only so long a shouty manager, who doesn't do tactics can keep the best team in the country, with by far the most resources at the top. He was a disaster waiting to happen and it defies belief that the Celtc board kept him on after the Elastoplast period that was required when Rodgers left. They will take a wee while to recover as he has left them in a worse position squad wise than he inherited. The next manager may be a Celtc version of Heck who can't get enough quality in during a single window. The only sad thing is that the other cheek ends up winning the league. If we had just kept our form for the home games we would have had a great chance of second.

Of course it would. Not sure what jobs you apply for but the vast majority do criminal background checks and if you are in any position of responsibility then there is a slim chance you are getting through with a drug conviction.

The Mr Nice guy that is being presented by the football press is a big leap forward from his past, and the reason that Kenny Millar and Gary Holt were there (and now arent there).

There is no real change at Livingston. DM has been running that team for a long time.

Background checks are law - not company policy. Companies do it to adhere to strict regulations. SFA member clubs have to adhere to those regulations. As others have said i fully expect him to be passed but I wouldnt pass him in a million years. We arent talking about someone who sold a bit of grass. Even then, Livi have obviously passed him as fine for the job. The SFA shouldn’t be involved in it at all. Everyone deserves a second chance in life and that’s up to employers to give.

Here is the crux.... you dont pass or fail. Its up to the employer to use that information to decide if the applicant is suitable for the role. Its been brought up for years with Livingston. He was coaching there back when David Hopkins was mgr.

Back in 2006 "Former director of Scotland Against Drugs, Alistair Ramsay, who advised the Scottish Government on drugs policy, said: “It is irresponsible of a club to behave in this way.

“Footballers at all levels, whether they are coaches or players, really need to be above reproach when it comes to their own behaviour.

“Someone setting such a poor example should not be given the opportunity to work with young people.”"

I wouldnt have an issue if it was minor crimes but they were heavy distributors or Heroin and Cocaine. I'd be disgusted if Hibs every gave him a role.

Disclosure Scotland are the body that administer Scotland’s PVG scheme. Martindale will have been obliged to undergo one, as the club clearly work with minors. The onus is on the employer to risk assess suitability. DBS is an English equivalent.

https://www.mygov.scot/pvg-scheme/types-of-work-covered-by-pvg/

I agree that people deserve the chance of rehabilitation (there are emotive and horrific crimes which I might except from that). That said Martindale was in deep with serious organised crime. This wasn’t a minor indiscretion. £300,000 worth of cocaine. He also had £100,000 worth of assets seized.

Difficult one. If Hibs had employed Martindale as manager would I feel a bit uneasy about it? Yes. Would I want my kids looking up to him? No. Do people deserve a second chance? Absolutely. Earn that respect back.

It's a hard one with it being a very public role where you're seen as being a role model however Livingston have deemed him a fit and proper person so that should be that.

I'm in a similar boat to you, I would not be happy if Hibs gave someone found guilty of crimes like this such a prominent role. People who commit crimes like this are capable of rehabilitation, no doubt, but should that rehab allow that person to take up a role of such importance? I'm not so sure.

This for me, he has obviously worked very hard to get into the position he is in today. To come up through the ranks at Livi he has earn that respect back. No point giving people a life sentence when they are released, that is the quickest way back to a life of crime.

If he isn't allowed to try and make a new life then there is far more chance he will continue with his old life. It sounds like he worked his way up from a lower level proving himself and showing he has turned the corner. He is doing a great job and is now a valued member of society, that is a good news story

I agree.

People deserve a second chance, and Livi are to be commended for doing this with him. He is clearly a fantastic coach and has by all accounts been the driving force there for years.

His elevation to First Team Manager means that he is the front face, he is on the tv and radio every week laughing and joking away - something which might grate for those in scotland who have family suffer through drug addiction or the criminality that surrounds the trade.

However, that was Livis choice and I expect the SFA will also just rubber stamp it next week.

Martindale was only sentenced in 2006 and released in 2010, so I'm a bit puzzled by the quote you made? Martindale became involved at Livi in 2014.

While I understand the second chance narrative there has to be a limit when involved in a role such a Football manager. If he was a convicted sex offender or pedophile there would be no sympathy here. Instead he was involved at a serious level drug supply. In a country with a drug death record as bad as ours that is not something I think compatible with a public figure.

Have they lost their hunger? become complacent? They looked a mid table team tonight, you can get away with the odd player being off form but when half the team is off form this happens. Big dilemma for Klopp, does he stay with these players or is it time to move a few on, for me Firmino looks miles off the player he was as is Mane and Salah looks like he's trying too hard.

Turned on with 20 mins to go, trying to score the perfect goal it seemed. Nowhere near direct enough IMO and I don't mean long ball but getting running at the by-line flashing crosses and hitting first time. Too much about the quick sharp touches around the box trying to score the perfect goal when the ball was there to be hit several times. Salah was the worst offender.

I suppose it has been on the cards. Liverpool had a small tight squad and did not rotate as much as their rivals it worked very well for a couple of years, largely because the avoided injuries for their key players. They also focussed on two competitions - the Premier League and the Champions League - fielding weakened teams in the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Liverpool haven’t become a bad team overnight, but the effort has affected the form of key players and the goals for have dried up somewhat.

All that pressure may now have caught up with them and injuries have mounted particularly in central defence have adversely affected the it form. The compressed nature of the PL season starting a month or more late but still trying to pack as many games in will be a factor.

Central defence injuries have hugely affected their team including moving their best midfielders into defence. Surprised they didn't bring in a central defender this window. Front 3 struggling particularly Firmino and Salah. Squad players nowhere near the level. Bit of a perfect storm at the moment will be interesting what team he picks for the cup game.

I know you’re only being flippant, but more generally are Liverpool even having all that bad a season? Only 6 points off top in a very strange season. Having lost their first choice centrebacks for the season as well as Matip being injured and playing their best midfielders in defence. They have definitely dropped off but from the levels of the last 2 seasons that was inevitable. They’re just one of the pack this season but still as good a chance as any at retaining the title IMO.

After the last two seasons, failing to be at the same level is going to attract criticism. The reality is though they would always drop off that standard eventually. This is the first time since May 2000 that they have failed to score in 4 consecutive league games.

I still think they will be title challengers, City for the win though.
