Without the Irish War of Independence fought between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) & the British there would be no Irish Republic, hardly surprising that their supporters are republicans & may sing the odd ditty of that nature, every country celebrates its national heroes, myths etc, not least us Scots, only seems to be a problem when it's Ireland.
I get that I was just responding to the questions which songs were sung. That sort of song is never going to get a great reaction in Scotland.

You think that the singing of that song relates to the original IRA and dates back to 1919 etc?
OK then.............
I actually suspect that they are actually singing it because they are a bunch of dafties glorying in the more recent troubles.

You’d think the Scottish fans could unite as one, really poor!
I remember going to watch Scotland in the 70’s and 80’s, Kenny Dalglish didn’t get a very warm reception from a lot of Scotland fans, as he played for Celtic, and the Rangers element in the Scotland support didn’t like him
It would seem that booing at football is OK sometimes, but not at others, based on the past 2 weeks.

The big difference is that Welsh speakers in Wales vastly outnumber Gaelic speakers in Scotland.
Over 20% of people in Wales can speak Welsh but Gaelic is only spoken by around 1% of people in Scotland and outside the Western Isles it's barely spoken at all.

Makes the number of Gaelic road and rail station signs seem rather excessive. I get it when they're in regions where Gaelic is spoken but a lot of the railway signs are simply made up (ie they have no Gaelic equivalent). Haymarket for example has never had a Gaelic equivalent so the name you see on the signage is simply the Gaelic words hay and market stuck together. Pretty daft.

Team for tomorrow night could be interesting with the recent squad announcements with Tierney, McKenna and McTominay out and McKay and Kingsley in.
With what we have, I'd like to see
Gordon
Hendry Porto Kingsley
Fraser McGregor Gilmour McGinn Hickey
Christie
Adams
However I can see Clarke going with Gallagher ahead of Porto with the previous international experience.

I've no issue with Hearts players getting called up but I'm surprised at Kingsley. No slight on him as a player but upfront is really where we're lacking - I'd almost rather he'd called up McKay and Shankland.
It's some depth of squad we're missing when you think of all who isn't playing. Classic Scotland - get ourselves in a great position to qualify, some form of **** hits the fan, end up lamenting said **** and what could have been.

Was lots of booing near us, abuse for James McLean etc & met a guy on the train home who got a kicking after celebrating the Ireland goal. Piss poor, we were in the home end in Dublin in June & it couldn't have been much more different.
Just to sort out this point. McLean was booed at the corner for their goal as he was being a prick to one of the ball boys, as he went across to take it, and shouting at him. Nothing to do with any of his history, just what he done on the night. He never got booed before that, got booed before the corner was taken then gave it to the cupped ears to the Scotland fans after the goal, and got booed for the rest of the game.

Hickey fit and Ralston there as back up so don’t really see a place for Cadden.
One thing with Clarke, he will pick players from throughout the league when deserved or there is a place for them.

Officials are having a shocker so far - if not a penalty, it 100% had to be a corner. Ukraine's tackling has been brutal - amazing they're not down to 10 men.
And aye, the offside thing is doing my box in - just put the flag up if it's obvious! The chance where Gordon made a great save was an exception - that was clearly tight (and it actually looked like Hickey was playing him on), so I don't mind a late flag there.
Kenny McLean is a dreadful excuse for a footballer, and Greg Taylor behind him isn't much better.

The point is if they call it wrong it can’t be rectified. If they call it wrong after the ball is in the pokey then VAR can overule it and the goal stands. If it’s right it’s right and the goal is chalked off. I really don’t mind the delay as long as the right decision is made in the end.

The only thing I can think of that would result in a drop ball is if he’s technically awarded the penalty before the ball went out for the corner. If that’s the case, why he doesn’t do the cop out that all the other refs do and award the corner and let VAR award the penalty, I don’t know.
