Decent results for us. Was always expecting hearts to win tonight, it’s the next 4 we really have to be closing the gap. In reality we should be looking to win our next 4 which might just have us very close to third place with 1/3 of the season to go.

Be very tight for top 4. Liverpool aren’t clear yet. Chelsea 9 ahead of arsenal (3 games in hand) 11 ahead of Tottenham (5 games in hand) 12 ahead of United (3 games in hand) 19 clear of Leicester (5 games in hand). With West Ham in that mix as well although they’ve played more than everyone else.

Leicester probably too far back but shows how tight it could end up. City will win it by 12+ I reckon.

We’ve got a lot of catching up now, 10 points is a big gap

Hearts next four games include both the old firm and us but we need to win our matches.

Yeah I think a 10 point gap is pretty insurmountable to be honest, especially at this stage of the season.

I'd need to check but there can't be too many 10 point gaps that have been overturned at this stage in the season.

Paranoid I know, but it sometimes feels Hibs operate to different rules to the rest of football; major refereeing decisions go against us in every major final we play, players banned for innocuous comments about refs when other teams players get away with it, and now we’re supposed to operate on a pre Bosman rule book when it comes to signings, when Celtic are signing players from the outer reaches of the known galaxy :aok:

Also Motherwell to complete their next four league matches.

If the gap's down to 1 point after they go to Ibrox I'll be ecstatic, although it's then likely to go straight back to 4 points as we then go to Ibrox ourselves and they're at home to Dundee.

That's the problem with gaps like 10 points at this stage in the season, there's no margin for error for us at all.

Kilmarnock were less points behind us in 17/18 than we are currently behind Hearts at a similar stage in the season and still couldn't finish above us despite only losing 5 of their last 26 games of the season.

Hearts are currently 1/7 to finish 3rd and I'd say that's a pretty good reflection of the likelihood of them finishing there at the end of the season.

I'm surprised the events of the past few days would change anyone's perception on the likelihood of us finishing above Hearts.

They got an expected win over an awful team at home. We lost to one of the best teams in the country away.

When it comes to overhauling their lead we've certainly got our work cut out but the next few fixtures are more favourable for us than them and we'll have a better idea then.

I was hugely heartened by the results and performances in the Aberdeen and United games and I'm certainly not for chucking the towel in yet. We've brought a few much needed bodies in and they have at the very least had their best defender's head turned.

No longer am I a betting man but if I was I'd be expecting Hibs to be the value bet here.

Doubt they will all hit the ground running Think on that basis 3 rd is a big ask

I think this is a really important point you note Ronnie. We are signing young talent, not seasoned pros. They will take time to mature. Same can be said for our new manager. This is not a quick fix approach. It’s surely an investment over a number of years . We will have accept that it will take us a while to be firing on all cylinders on anything like a consistent basis .

You can only make really money in Scottish football, if you make European group stages

I think winning the derby and also being no more than 4 points behind them following that game is crucial if we're going to catch them.

That means us beating Motherwell and Livingston beforehand and Hearts losing to Celtic.

Those set of results should be achievable - if the gap's any more than that then I think we can probably forget it.

Agreed.

3rd place typically requires somewhere in the region of 60 points. We're currently on track for around 52 points and Hearts are on track for 70 points so clearly their form will need to tail off quite spectacularly over the next 17 games and ours will need to significantly improve if we're going to do it.

Stonewall penalty. Rangers win suits us but everytime I watch a game with them or Celtic I want them to get pumped.

I'm totally the same, I look at the table and think "if they drop points here and there" then it comes to the game and I just want them pumped.

I agree and I don't think it's fair to judge anything against a Sellick game at Darkheed, their new signings look top class, not many teams will get points against them, if Kev knocks that chance in then we're off to a great start.

Hard to believe they've struggled so much since Fergie left, they've tried Fergie's choice of Moyes, experienced and then young and up and coming, nothing's worked. Bought young and talented, added experience but still nothing, truly bizarre.

Really impressive that the Spurs players, after scoring an injury time equaliser, had only one thought…let’s restart the game and see if we can win. Most others teams would have been celebrating the draw. It was that mentality that helped win them the game….

Delighted Norwich are winning. Anything to get Newcastle relegated now.

Im of the same mindset that it will be a good laugh if they go down, however I felt that Watford winning their back to back games against Norwich and Burnley, along with a Leeds win would have really landed Newcastle in it.

We need one of Burnley, Watford or Norwich to go finish above Newcastle and better for one do then to go on a good run than for all three to pick up the odd win.

Anybody who thought our cup tie was poor last night should have been gobsmacked how poor Watford v Norwich was. Dreadful game of football. Maybe a few should cut Shaun and the guys some slack.

Can't see it either but if they do, "Souttar should have been played" will be a point of argument for them.

Passed up the chance to possibly cup-tie him, which could come back to bite them.

couldn't remember how many points Derby had been docked then found this BBC article from mid november

Derby County have been deducted a further nine points after admitting breaches of English Football League accounting rules.
The Championship club, docked 12 points (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58649432) for entering administration in September, have agreed to the dismissal of their appeal against that decision.

It means the Rams are almost certain to be relegated to League One.

the BBC are a tad out with that prediction, they're presently 2nd bottom having clawed all those points back, even though Barnsley and Peterborough have played 3 games less than them i think Derby will survive.

Proper pet hate - ref can clearly see player has landed horrendously on his neck, scandalous to let the game go until the chance is cleared before stopping the game. Thankfully doesn’t seem as serious as it could’ve been. Seems potential goals are more important than player safety down there.

Never a penalty in the Liverpool game. Arsenal more red cards than goals so far this year. Brighton with yet another draw.

Spurs v Chelski would have been a game I might have wanted to watch but… meh ? 0-0 or a goal in it maybe?

I forgot Matt Doherty moved to Spurs !

Down to the way Conte has got Spurs lined up I think. Which is quite understandable the way Spurs have been banjooed by Chelsea in recent times.

Chelsea 7 shots 1 on target, Spurs 1 shot and 1 on target, nullifying each other out at the moment, a bit boring.

Spurs robbed of a goal there imo.

Foul for me, pushes the centre half over. Kanes been getting fouls for that for years.

Puts his hand on the defender who knows he’s in trouble so goes to ground. Clever.

He’s running at pace and clearly pushes him. Can tell by the way he stumbles. Had to mute the tele as Neville is just talking nonsense now.

I'd cancel my Sky subscription if it weren't for the fact Scottish games are on it. Zero interest in the EPL now, barely watch any of the games.
