They’re a decent side, still soft but better than most of the ‘rest’ - miles and miles off the top 4 as has been shown in games vs those sides which is where they need to aspire to be.

I'm pretty sure they did consider the ''spend some cash on decent players'' strategy but they're completely hamstrung by FFP so they cannot. They got an experienced manager who can work under a tight budget, which makes sense.

United have some really good players, they are just poorly coached. Any squad with Ronaldo, Fernandes, Sancho, Cavani, Varane, Pogba etc has potential to be a good side. There is too much mediocrity in the squad too, e.g. Lingard, Fred, McTominay etc. They need to clear out the rubbish and coach the rest properly.
