Lol yeah this is standard practice. Since they're part time he'll keep up his full time status on his Edinburgh FC days off with us, playing in dev games etc/training. It'll all be agreed in the loan deal ahead of time
I get the training bit.
It's the games I was confused about. Presumably the Development games aren't "real" games, or are they? Are they subject to SFA rules re registration etc?

Annoying about Mitchell as he looked menacing when he came on last week.
With Tavares suspended interesting to see what he does on the left now.
Don’t want youan getting moved out there and doidge up top - youan will terrorise their centre half’s
Why is Tavares suspended?

Regarding Mitchell - was amazed he was on the bench last week.
He hasn’t played any pre-season minutes to then playing 22 mins of 1st team football is a risk.
Did he play any mins for the development team?
Considering he’s been out for so long felt like a risky decision especially with a guy with injury history.

Option to recall in Jan, if he absolutely tears it up we have a player in Jan with loads of minutes.
Think a loan was the right idea, just thought it would be at a higher level.
That's my issue. A league of hatchet men is not for him. He's much better than that.

His suspension as I understand didn’t kick in until the 1st august as that’s when the Portugal league started. So misses first game after august first thus able to play last week

Tend to agree about Campbell.
Nobody was more critical of him last season than me but there really isn’t any point labouring the point into this season. The team wasn’t functioning well last season so maybe he was a victim of that, I don’t know.
I don’t think I’d start him on Sunday but if he does, I don’t doubt for a second he’ll give everything for the cause.

I've never understood why suspensions for bookings carry to the new season, that to me is nonsense. Unless there is an ugly sending off that warrants additional punishment the new season should be a fresh start for everyone.

Really? His biggest weakness imo is him being shrugged off and cheaply losing possession in dangerous areas. We know how that mob like to play, they will get in his face and give him no time. I hope I’m wrong but if he plays I will lose a lot of the little confidence I have in us getting a result.

I don’t think there’s any chance he’ll be played in an area where he could lose the ball in a dangerous area, he’ll be further up the park or wide if he plays.

That's 100% the one thing that won't happen. I'm not a huge fan of Josh but he will run and tackle all day and give 100 % for the jersey. Similarly I'm not a big fan of Doidge but I would start him on Sunday, ask him to get right in face of Halkett for 45-60 minutes and then take it from there. GGTTH.

I don't understand that one. He seemed really good when I've seen him and having come from Standard Liege where he had played a few games in the Belgian league, I can't see what he'll get out of a loan move to the Scottish 3rd tier. I'd definitely have kept him.Maybe they want him to get kicked around a bit and toughened up.

Opening up on the idea to send the young star on loan, Arteta reveals his concerns over whether Smith Rowe could cope with the more senior and boisterous voices in the Gunners squad.*
*'When we sent him on loan, I said I'm only going to ask you… I'm not going to watch your games,' the Arsenal boss added. 'I only want to hear what people say, about you when you are there, and how they are going to describe you, not as a player, as a person.
'Because as a player I don't have any doubts that you can play for us. But can you cope with being in that dressing room? Can you cope with the pressure outside? I don't know, so you better go there and impose yourself, and he really did.'*

Room to sign one more and LJ is hoping it is Boyle.
http://bit.ly/3BKBKv9
Talks between the clubs behind the scenes continue, although the move is made more complicated by the fact Al-Faisaly are still paying off the instalments of the fee. On Boyle wanting to come back, Johnson said: “That’s my understanding. But again I’m talking out of turn effectively because he is not our player. We potentially have room to bring one more in.
"If that’s Martin, great. If not, we go back to the drawing board. It won’t be cheap. It would have to take a big investment from the ownership to do that.”
Boyle is still in Scotland and is waiting to see if a deal can be struck with Hibs. Al Faisaly are not looking to sell Boyle but they have an understanding of his personal situation, with his wife and family still in the UK.

I'm sure the coaches will know better than I ever could in terms of first hand knowledge and experience. It could be good for the lads development, however I still think he could have been handy until at least the winter window before sending on loan as he could possibly have done a job for us while LJ's new team find its feet.

I'm really surprised that we don't seem to be looking to strengthen central midfield. It's been the problem area for ages. The consensus a few weeks ago on here seemed to be we needed another two, then one and now it looks like it'll be none.
In CM we've got Kenneh, Newell, JDH, Campbell, Tait and the always injured Magennis. I'm excluding Henderson as I think he's better suited in more forward positions.
That said, I had a wee look at our city neighbours' midfield and they've got listed Haring, Halliday, Devlin, Baningime, McGill and Pollock - no idea if they are CM or not. Now I rarely watch the Hearts, so can't comment if our midfield is better than theirs or not. I always remember Preston being very critical of the Hearts midfield when they got dominated by our midfield of McGinn, McGeouch and Fyvie. That day he said something along the lines of "if you don't win the midfield battle, then you are making the game so much harder for yourselves".
In a 180-degree turn in the time it's taken me to write this, looking at the Hearts midfield, I'm actually a lot more confident.

In a 180-degree turn in the time it's taken me to write this, looking at the Hearts midfield, I'm actually a lot more confident.:thumbsup:That Devlin is ****ing pants, 100% energy and the rest spent being a nippy little ****er who likes to fire in with late tackles, dirty wee scrote, Haring is slow and quite limited, Baninggime can be useful at controling the midfield if allowed and Halliday, well he is just a fanny who thought he had won the cup

Seems to be rather mixed messages here. One minute it’s “in dialogue with 4 or 5 players” and then a few hours later it’s “room for one more”.
Agree How can we only have room for one more We were told Doig’s transfer fee would be reinvested in the team Hsvd we signed anyone since we sold him

We signed his replacement and I'm sure were expecting a CB, I actually don't think it's the money situation I think it could be the size of the squad, think people need to be moved on for signings to come in? Hopefully we see more than one body in.

If we don't sign a centre half after searching for one all summer, then 'the recruitment team' haven't done their job. Similarly to going in to last season with just Nisbet and Doidge as centre forwards, if we go with the centre halves we have we're being unbelievably naive and it won't be long before it becomes a problem area.
Two of our centre halves are guaranteed to get suspended, probably on more than one occasion, and the other is an ageing defender coming off another injury. We've been saying it for weeks, but they need to sign one asap.

We didn't get 3m up front. Be realistic.
If we sign Boyle you can guarantee a fair chunk of the Doig money will be going to paying for him now and over the next few years. It might not be in a transfer fee, but signing on fees to help him cover tax, wages, bonuses etc.

Maybe Boyler has a behind the scenes issue with Al Faisaly about non payment of wages and won’t go anywhere, until it’s sorted.
I think the fact he is still in edinburgh and the club have admitted that he wants to come back are the biggest pluses.
Hibs are in a no lose position here.
He moves somewhere else because a club make a bigger offer than hibs, then the balance of 3 million comes our way .
What I dont want hibs doing is effectively making nothing from the move so I can see why it complicated .

We transfer him and it ends up costing hibs more than they got .
If its not sorted very soon we move on and they keep paying us what there due ,that's a better deal .

The longest we will have Boyle, if we do manage to re-sign him, will be 1 year… After the World Cup I’m sure we will have offers and I wouldn’t be surprised if he will have a clause to be sold down south.

Spot on
You can tell from the lineup thread that even with McGeady, Tavares, options and therefore formations go limited on us
If Ron is seriously wanting 4th upwards he needs to realise the squad needs depth 15-17 guys genuianly challenging for 11 outfield spots
Don’t think we’re quite there imho

We've dominated their midfield once in the last few years and the key factor that day was probably Lewy. Which says a lot about both teams.
Agree that their midfield really isn't great but we are very far from settled in that area. We desperately need Kenneh to be the real deal.

He could ask for his contract to be cancelled and just sign for Hibs. Did Steve Mallan do that with his Turkish club?
Take the Saudis to a tribunal but unlikely to get anything out of that country. FIFA could take punitive action against the Saudi league/football association - ban from tournaments.

Our biggest signing in 20 years. Not even kidding. Boy is playing in the World Cup this winter and, as another poster said, is easily a £2m+ player (and a lot more if he performs well at the WC). As big a signing as we could have made this window - I know it was an "easy" one due to the circumstances at home and in Saudi, but this was still a big move by our owners and I salute them for it. Roll on this season.

Well played Hibs. Having the first option on Boyle's return was a master stroke as the Huns and Tic would have scuppered any possibilty of him coming back to us.
If only this had been wrapped up a week ago, we'd have seen a big tick up in ST sales. Boyle is that good.

This is great news, cannot wait till we have a full strength squad, we have been really unlucky for a good wee while now with injuries, a full strength Hibs is well deserved, would like to see what the team could achieve.

Still - McGinn's star has faded since the £50 million transfer stories. I think £35 million secures. Can use Josh Campbell in a makeweight

Really don't think the first option has had any effect here. If he went anywhere else, the Saudi mob would've had to pay us 2.2 million. If he came back here, they could at least negotiate with Hibs.
Celtic and Rangers have never really been interested in Boyle. If they had been, they'd probably have got him years ago for pennies.

I honestly think now we can forget about McGinn going anywhere, that ship has sailed I think, we might get him back when he is 35 or 36, to replace Campbell when he moves to Man U 🤣

I dont think anyone can be critical of Ron on money spent on the team, where i have been critical is who we've spent it on.
Bringing bake Boyle is fantastic, and definetly the right kind of player, a 1st team player.
A centre half aand a central midfielder next please Ron, players that will go straight in and make a difference.

And a raft of exciting young players. Fingers crossed we get them all fit and available soon. The makings of a very decent team. I feel things are starting to take shape.

I've been a pretty vocal critic of the current regime but you can't fault that signing, great bit of business and will give everyone connected with the club a huge lift, let's hope it spurs the team on to a win on Sunday!

£1.5m received of the initial fee. Unbelievable deal for the club. Also mentions deal still on the table for Porteous and there’s a possibility there could be one more arrival after Boyle.

To be fair, it’s probably not far off what we would have earned had we kept Boyle. We most likely would have got top 6, we would have had a real chance of pushing for Europe and we probably wouldn’t have had to sack Maloney either. All in, we’re probably worse off than we would have been had we not kept him.
Still though, at least it’s softened the blow of missing out on all that financially. Now we just need to make sure we kick on and get Europe now he’s back.
I presume he’s not available tomorrow?

If he’d exchanged the “I” to “we”, “us”, “the club” etc I just think it would’ve sounded more professional. I’ve actually had no issue with Ben’s reign and have agreed with Ron’s assessment during the last podcast.
