Andy Carroll's available and doesn't seem to look for a big wage (£1k per week at Reading). Whether he's fit enough is probably questionable.

Just a wee list of SPL players I think we should be looking at, not rumours sadly........

Joseph Hungbo (Ross C) - a loanee from Watford so no idea if the home club have plans but what a player. A pacey winger with a bag full of tricks and an end product.
Liam Kelly (Motherwell) - keeper is not the top of our shopping list but this guy is a future Scotland no. 1. At 26 is a good age and would be an excellent long term upgrade on what we have.
Kevin van Veen (Motherwell) - we need strikers and while this guy is not marquee, he would be a challenge to Doige who form can vary.
Alan Forest (Livi) - a few clubs are looking at this lad and no wonder. Direct and exciting, can take a player on and shoot.

Contrary to some opinions (Ron’s included) I actually think Doig improved under maloney, certainly his form anyway, think he was playing more as a LB under Ross in the end and was defensively found out a bit, playing higher up for SM certainly improved his performances

He’s a fairly average centre half but an excellent full back or wing back.

Maloney played him at LCB far too often and his form suffered big time. If we continue with a back 3 then Josh needs to be playing wing back again where he has shown his best form by far

Though this is also a weakness for the team as quite a few balls go to back post and he needs to learn to do better.

Not sure, but I remember a bandy legged one we signed from Dundee reserves who went on to be a rather successful at reviving his career

Marshall should be a good signing, hopefully he's still fit enough and has the will to emulate Leighton and have a late career swansong that turns out to be decent at Hibs.

Marshall would be a definite upgrade on Macey. I read he was starting for QPR in the championship until he got injured in March. Cba checking that though.

This does raise more questions over who exactly is making decisions on signings, as we still don't have a manager. All this talk of the manager having the final say is clearly nonsense if we are letting Mueller go and signing Marshall. The only caveat to that would be if we announce a new manager in the coming days then we could argue he was probably consulted on these before he was announced. If we don't sign a new manager soon then clearly someone else at the club is calling the shots on signings.

Marshall would be a definite upgrade on Macey. I read he was starting for QPR in the championship until he got injured in March. Cba checking that though.

This does raise more questions over who exactly is making decisions on signings, as we still don't have a manager. Or that when there is a manager, they make the call, but when there isn’t we still have to react to opportunities.

I can’t imagine the new manager complaining about us having signed an upgrade in a key position, instead of waiting for his arrival and Marshall having gone and signed with someone else.

MrRobot

We really should have 3 good keepers in our squad so Id expect to see Marshall, Macey and Dabrowski fight it out for number 1 with Marshall the most likely choice initially.

His experience will be massive to both Macey and Dabrowski in their development.

Listen to the BBC daily podcasts / Euro podcasts and they have discussed it.

Haaland was in demand but after talks with City they were happy to match the wages of other clubs and are aware he wants to go to Madrid.

Reality is Pep wants another striker next season also use Alvarez and may Pep may only be at City for another season or 2.

Haaland will move to Madrid after City just wait and see.

Yeah, Athletic also said that City’s pitch was essentially ‘come here, work with Guardiola, win stuff, then if you still want to play for Madrid, you’ll be 27 when this deal ends.’

Whether he then goes or not I guess we’ll see. Probably also a factor that Madrid very publicly made Mbappe the priority, so questionable whether they could afford both in one summer.

No idea how it works as we don’t have a manager or if it’s purely down to us being linked with Robinson but someone just text me saying Ciaron Brown is someone we’re keen on.

Left sided centre back/left back and was at Livi last season.

Could be nonsense.

Hopefully not nonsense - he was consistently excellent for Livingston, would be a great addition.

Marshall is a definite starter. Dabrowski as a relatively cost effective back-up.

Macey will get a good move back down South to League 1/2.

Is Dabrowski still under contract as he now needs to be playing week in week out to improve ? So will he be happy as No 2for another few years Needs to think of his career

Anyone who was at the Franck Sauzee dinner would have seen, right away, the immense respect he commanded, from all corners, because of his playing career & character

Not saying Marsh is in that Sauzee-esque category, but he's a national hero from Belgrade, and the only away keeper to keep a clean sheet at Euro 2020 at Wembley, which was not too many moons ago

I always believed if a team has a good experienced keeper he should be captain. First and foremost to marshall his defenders and make sure they know where they should be in any given situation. Something that is quite evidently lacking this season.

CapitalGreen

No harm in having multiple players in the squad who are captain material, when there is only one obvious candidate to be captain then you might need to look at the leadership and experience within the squad.

Our cup winning starting XI had maybe 7 or 8 players in it that you could have made an argument for them being the captain. In the 2007 team there was maybe 5 or 6 players. In our last 2 final defeats there was probably only 2 or 3.

I would hope that Marshall would lead by example by just doing his own job well.... someone you'd rely on to perform as an 8/10 minimum every week.

Lewis can be relied upon as such but shouldn't really be playing next season. Unfortunately Paul Hanlon certainly cannot be relied upon as a top performing player on evidence of this season. And he has no real other attributes as a captain.

A New Manager worth his salt isn’t going to want this nonsense in place especially when the Owners Son is part of the committee

Think people need to also realise just how fickle football is these days. It’s very difficult to sign young players and have the luxury of them developing over 2/3/4 years. Fans demand results and personally couldn’t care if we had a team or over 35s if we delivered on the park and replenished each year as they were no longer upto it.

This fascination with players being over a certain age and past is is mad. Some of our best players have been in their late 20s/30s when joined hibs over the years.

We bring in or bring through a young lad that turns out to be brilliant he’s sold and invariably the money doesn’t guarantee we improve the side of its all reinvested which it very rarely is.

We need a manager and players who are of a certain level regardless of age.

Ron has already said the player Budget is increased from last season He also said The financial gap between us and Hearts wouldn’t be that much
I disagree on the latter and we would need to know by how much player budget is being increased
But it’s how we use that budget that counts and recruitment is key along with a Manager that can play players in best position and analyse which positions we actually need to recruit to , to improve us
If Hearts recruit as well as they did last season third is probably there’s for the taking
But we need to be aiming for fourth

They didnt sell a player in January for 3 million though so maybe the budget wont be that reduced, if at all.

Fair point, although they have emptied fewer high profile management teams than us over the past 6 months.

We should be out of sight able to outmuscle United financially, although our actions over the past 12 months will have seriously impacted our ability to do so.

Was he a CB, full back or midfielder? I can remember watching him play all 3 and never understanding what he was actually meant to be.

Another goal for Dylan Levitt tonight and I’m sure he’s out of contract in the summer.

Could do far worse than him, cracking player.

Was brilliant for me when I signed him on Football Manager for Hibs, helped win us the title :greengrin

All seriousness, think he's a brilliant young player but can imagine he'll get a move to a decent Championship team in England. Worth a look at though.

I find the Paul McGinn situation a bit weird.

A regular, then out injured for a while, then brought straight back in and a regular again but no new contract?

I realise any new manager might not fancy him but I'd have thought it would have been mutually beneficial to extend for another year?

I thought McGinn had a trigger in his contract for another year if he played X amount of games
I’d 100% be keeping him

His deal is until 2022, with a 1 year option (I assume it is for the club to trigger this option).

Presumably it’s within our control for now to trigger an extension? Shambolics if not.

But yeah I’m not sure why they are delaying getting it done and announced.

May as well give Drey Wright a new 5 year deal and have done with it ! Scott signed a 3 and a half year deal with Hull in 2020, so I can’t see us paying a fee for him. I’d file that under twitter pish.

In fairness to James Scott, I'd be amazed if he wants to stay at Hibs any more than we want him to stay.

It's been a grim season for him and he must be miserable.

If anyone ever needed a fresh start somewhere and a clean slate, it's him.

Absolute nonsense. Why would an agent come up to speak to Hibs about his player when he only has one game left to play.

Scott has been seen as a young player with potential for a while now and I believe it’s a long term project. We can all suggest whether we feel these projects are or are not working but in the meantime it looks the way we are going down.

Well I imagine he’s meeting his client to discuss his options. Believe it or not, hardly seems like a contentious issue.

James Scott scored in his last game, had an assist in the previous one and has generally knocked his pan in for a team that creates zip for the past month and a bit.

Not saying for a second that I want us to sign him, but I don't think he's been close to being our biggest problem lately and really doesn't deserve the level of criticism that is currently being aimed at him.

David Gray has had a ropey few weeks. Paul Hanlon had an awful month back there. Joe Newell is the ever present part of a midfield that is posted missing weekly. Ryan Porteous has been either suspended or all over the shop in his most recent performances.

Scott was abysmal earlier in the season and has to take his share of responsibility but over the past couple of months, I reckon he can hold his head high.

Amazing what two games can do, because before that he was consistently terrible and in the last two games he has barely done any better.

I will say he did well with the assist, the goal against dundee was the bare minimum as he had 3 great chances to score.

The fact you think he can hold his head high shows you how utterly crap we are. We have played most of the season with a single striker fit and getting no service and a midfield that operates at walking pace.

James Scott isn't the answer.

Having looked at his record he's scored 12 goals in 96 games in his career over 7 seasons. 3 of those were in the league cup against Greenock Morton and Annan.

His agent must be some sort of wizard.

Edit - Just noticed that another three of them where in league one and the EFL cup against Harrogate, Grimsby & MK Dons.

So he's scored a grand total of 6 goals in his career whilst playing in the Scottish Premiership and English Championship.
