Gordon do doubt is a great keeper - he's also a very very lucky one. That can't last forever.
He makes his own luck with his quality.
The luck will dissipate as his fitness and agility fades.

It very petty to wish failure on a guy who was hugely successful for us. Hibs class and all that? Or do we just use that term when it suits us. I hope he comes 4th and we come 3rd. And if he is successful that will mean he’s taken points off of our main challengers.
Well said. Wish him all the best, so long as we take points off them.

Looks like Tottenham still have interest in Mcginn.
£40m. 15% of that would be very handy.
I don’t get this stuff in here that he’s not good enough for top five team. He’s ranked the 17th best player in the league for the various playing stats. And I reckon he’s not been in his best position for a lot of that. Get him in among a quality team and I reckon he adds value and becomes better himself.

Anyone know if it’s true Rocky has been offered to teams on loan?
You’d think not surely? Would be pretty ****ty of Hibs to do that and would only go and show they definitely made a mistake.
Rocky has signed and should be part of the squad, he needs to be given a chance to show he can do better than last season IMO. Some of the games he played in he actually looked pretty good and he wasn’t exactly under great management.

With every respect I think the welcome statement on the website made that quite clear.
He’s not a Scottish Premiership quality player, looks way off it in terms of ability and fitness and any way we can get rid is good with me.

Bit crap for Rocky, he's kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Hibs must have shown a bit of interest in signing him or why would he come to a club who don't want him and only signed through a technicality.

Hugely successful ! I must have missed that bit. Watched some of the most boring football i ever saw at ER, out of his depth and should have been sacked after the worst cup final performance i have ever seen from a Hibs team.

An option to buy doesn’t mean a player is then forced to join a club, he will have had a say. If hibs really didn’t want him and made that clear, Rocky could have declined the move i’m sure :dunno:

Rough translation:
The Yellow and Blues, as reported in L'Arena today are close to signing Scotsman Josh Doig. The Left sided player plays for Hibernian in Scotland. We understand he can play in a 4 man defence or even in a 5 man midfield. Diesse Marroccu has already tabled a bid of close to €2million, beating Bolognas offer, who are also interested in the player.

He's not our manager anymore, I want every manager apart from ours to fail, that means we do well. I still can't get my head around this love in for Jack Ross, was he able to brainwash fans into adoring him?
Weirdest thing I heard about JR was hibs fans behind me shoe horning his name into a chant “Jack Ross’ green and white army” at Motherwell away in the cup. A good few months after he’d been sacked, down right bizzare.

Was it not that we were obliged to buy him after hitting the game trigger in the agreement? That doesn't mean we wanted him but more that we were stuck with him seeing as Norwich wanted rid. As for forcing him, I hardly think that was the case. More likely that he has been presented with a good contract from us and very little else was on offer. He'd be daft not to take it up.

It’s simply basic human decency. Whatever your opinion on JR, he worked hard for us and represented the club with class. Hence me wishing him luck in his future career - it’s not a comment on his achievements for us, just a small mark of respect for a guy who treated our club with respect.

Against not playing and potentially not being paid. Millions of people go into work every day that they don't like and don't feel like they belong. Maybe he is viewing it as an opportunity to show how good he is and change a few minds. He doesn't look like he is good enough for us but there was some raw material to work with and he is still young enough to improve. Sticking him out on loan doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. If we have only signed him because of an appearances clause then we need to make sure we are on top of such issues.

They started from the wording of the Hibs announcement. Still very bizarre the way the club chose to communicate the circumstances when there was no requirement for them to do so.

Maybe he didn't know? LJ was just in the door and was probably of the belief (like all us lot) that Rocky was going from the club, he'd have no reason to make his thoughts on ex players to the hierarchy.
It's also not that far fetched that Rocky took the security a club he knows well rather than take a gamble that something better turns up. Win win for him really, nice contract for 3 years which either gets paid up early or he sits it out and goes on loan.

Why, if Rocky didn’t sign for Hibs, would Norwich stop paying him? :dunno:
if he isn’t wanted at either club, he isn’t going to play at either club potentially. Would we be paying him more than Norwich would? Maybe, but i’d find that unlikely TBH.

The club did post those two things officially.
Rocky himself personally thanked a couple of players for the help they gave him whilst on loan and wished them the best for the future.

Few discussions and the whole deal could easily have been scrapped. It might have cost us money, but it wouldnt have cost us as much as paying a player we apparently don’t want for 3 years.
There are ways out of every deal. Negotiations would have found a solution if we didn’t want him.

Downright weird.
It’s weird to want a team that finishes above us last season to do badly? :faf:
What’s weird is that people are desperate for Jack Ross to do a good job for Dundee United which in turn will make it harder for Hibs to be succesfull. Now that’s downright weird.

Exactly.
I hope Jack Ross fails miserably. I also hope Neilson fails miserably. And McInnes. And Postecoglu and GVB. And Callum Davidson. Martindale as well.
People wanting a team we’ll be competing with to do well next season because their manager is a nice man or because he’s been respectful to us. Probably the same people who thought Scotland should let Ukraine beat us and get to the World Cup.
I’ll stick to hoping Hibs and our manager are succesful and everyone else to do as crap as possible to make it as easy for us to do that as can be.

Considering we are on a Hibs forum, you can probably infer it as "I hope Jack Ross does well, [but not as well as us]." I don't think this is an unreasonable position.

I think he'd have been ideal for us and could have been a long term replacement for Hanlon. Looks an excellent player at this level IMO.
Seen him only a couple of times with Celtic and Their fans don't rate him . Not sure what he is a LB or LCB? I'm sure there was something a bit dodgy about that transfer to Celtic in the first place?

I can believe possibly that hibs had no say over it and the transfer had to be initiated as per the loan and option to buy terms but i simply cannot believe that a player would be forced to make a move. I would
imagine, or at least like to think, that the player always has the right to decline.
Maybe he wanted the deal to go through so he had a 3 year contract to give him some security.

Based on seeing him play 4/5 times. Clearly Celtic and Aberdeen have signed him for a reason.

He’s competing with £5m+ players at Celtic and he’s obviously not at that level. Would be a good player for all non OF teams IMO.

Liam Scales is a very good defender at this level, but as others have said he’s competing with CCV and Starfelt who are both international defenders. Julien not even getting a look-in and he was top drawer in his 1st season here.

Personally thought he could have done better with both completely exposed by the central defenders but near post shot and stranded for the winner. Goal at home v Celtic in 3 1 game and also Morelos header at Ibrox both paddled into the net. Didn't mind him as did well however his distribution wasn't great either.

Verona get circa 40 million Euro from TV money and they got around 8 million from league position last season - we are right to ask for £4 million, they can afford it easily, and if they are serious and want him, that should be our stance. Especially when Ramsay has gone for the same - both are at similar stages in their career, and you can argue Josh has played in a better team, played his part in getting to (and playing in) higher profile games (semi and finals), and has represented his country at U21 too.
The club are right to value him against that measure.

To come in for 18 months, be very consistent, play a decent part in us making 2 cup finals and then make us a bit of money is a solid contribution.

Macey just seemed like a complete sap to me. Quiet and far too weak. He definitely made a few really good saves, but that didn’t make up for his faults in my opinion.

It’s a strange one when we have a good player on our hands, forever hoping we sell for good money only to be disappointed with whoever we replace them with,or feel we haven’t invested enough of the fee to adequately replace them.
He’s contracted til 2025 I think so no rush on our part.
He’s also a very grounded lad so I don’t see him being in any rush either.

I have wondered if lower leagues in England is something we might look into with Johnson’s contacts.
After Aberdeen signing the lad from Notts County I noticed they have a striker called Ruben Rodrigues who seems far too good for that level.
Striker that scored 20 in 43 this season but before going there scored 12 in 27 for Den Bosch in the Eerste Divise? Seems an odd one. Still only 25.

On the flip side, Lewis Moult was playing at Conference level before going to Motherwell...

Paul mcginn away.
Don't know what to feel about that. Team a bit light on experience and always steady and chips in with goals. Also a better defender than the centre back we've just signed up inadvertently on a 3 year deal. Seemed more sensible with Clarke here but now he's away I'd have kept on for the year myself. Hopefully Miller makes the position his own and stays fit

Only guessing at that however, he wasn't a big earner at Hibs.

Cheers , done OK for Hibs and glad he's going somewhere he will get to play football. Frees up some space in the squad and gives us a little more in the budget. So looks like Macey and McGinn of the books

You would expect for a club like Arsenal to loan one of their players out they would want them to go to a stable environment, consistent coaching and somewhere where they will get progressed.
Let's be honest Hibs have not ticked any of these boxes so it should not been a surprise Clarke was recalled and has now moved on elsewhere.
Don't expect Arsenal to loan us any of their players for the foreseeable future.

With McGinn, I think you keep the 7 out of 10 guy and let the others try and take the shirt off him. If they manage and he doesn't get the football he wants and is unhappy then he can go.
It's a risk losing players who are steady and reliable.
McGinn has been part of a robust defence in the past and is still capable. We don't know if any of the new guys are yet.
It wasn't losing the likes of McGinn that we needed to do but to bring in the proper quality to play alongside them. It remains to be seen whether or not we've done that, but I suspect we're replacing the steady guys with folk of similar ability whilst not tackling our urgent needs.
It placates those who feel we were in need of a clear out (not an opinion I share but not one I consider outlandish) but I'm not convinced it takes us any closer to being a better team than the one that was pish last season.
If he wanted to go for any of the valid reasons also mentioned then fair play. He's served us well.

Says at the bottom here they wont be signing stop-gaps like Bissouma, Philips or Tielemans (3 players better than McGinn). They're probably done for the summer unless something changes.
Bissouma confirmed to Spurs, Philips heavily linked with City and Tielemans heavily linked with Arsenal. No one linked with McGinn. Liverpool were never going to go for McGinn, not their type of signing whatsoever. He also doesn't get in their first choice midfield at all. If they were going to get a midfielder it would be a real world class player.

Saying McGinn hasn't been linked with anyone is just totally untrue! He's been linked with Tottenham, Man Utd and Liverpool in the last 12 months!
You obviously feel he's not good enough for those rumours to be true but it's hard to believe there is absolutely nothing in the speculation. McGinn isn't the type to get his agent to create speculation so I'd say there has been some interest.

Yes, I know its my opinion, thats why I post it. How would I be posting someone elses opinion? Its the opinion of the clubs, pundits and managers as well.
He was linked with Spurs a few weeks ago. They immediately went and signed Bissouma without even trying for McGinn, what does that tell you about those links?
He has never been linked with Liverpool by any serious source. See how much the Calvin Ramsey and Darwin Nunez links were in the papers. Those were players Liverpool actually wanted.
Man United are linked with everyone, 95% of it bull****.
There might be something in the speculation, but its nothing really serious. This summer is already showing better players are available for cheaper, like Yves Bissouma, who I said a year ago teams would go for long before McGinn. Brilliant player.

McGinn came in and did a job. When all he had to do was defend, he did pretty decent job of it, but let far too many crosses get in last season.
His ability on the ball isn't good enough for helping build up attacks, so can't say I'm hugely disappointed he's leaving.

Not 100% sure of the stats but he will have been our top scoring defender in all the seasons he’s been there.. even last season even with his injury I bet he was in our top 5 goal scorers … With our goal scoring record I’m sure we will miss someone that can contribute 5+ goals a season from defence
