Stockton seems to have finally figured out how to score goals, wouldn't be unhappy with this.

One thing I will say is if he didn't have that poor spell across town I would be very interested having watched the goals from last season.

Incredibly he's got a very similar scoring record to Ross Stewart last season who got a call up to the Scotland squad. Sunderland as we know we're always near the top of the league. Morecambe were nowhere close
Some goals from the season past. Of it wasnt for his name we'd be saying sign him up 😀 https://youtu.be/iqYLpN2tYlo

Interesting one, if he never had a poor spell at Hearts this would look like an astute signing. His goal scoring record over the last 2 years is very good, comparable to Doidge’s but this season in the league above.

Yes his career has definitely improved since he left Hearts. An interesting one and he will certainly have something to prove if he comes up here. Says a lot for him that he is willing to take that on. Certainly the sort of striker we could do with scores goals, physical and strong and can run.

This isn't putting our league down, but I can't envisage any English player having a mare up here, doing really well in the lower leagues in England and likely having a few possible moves, yet somehow being intent on having unfinished business in Scotland.

He played for Hearts 5 years ago. People forget Boyle wasn't that great 5 years ago.
I’m fairness to Stockton, he appears to have turned into Drogba https://youtu.be/iqYLpN2tYlo 🤣
Some of the finishes in there were outstanding. I thought it was a highlight reel at first but then realised it was just his goals from this season.
23 goals for one of the lowest finishing teams in that league is pretty good.
Have to admit I have zero recollection of him at Hearts but that video suggests he’s physical, direct on the ball and can finish from anywhere in the final third which is what we have been sorely lacking.
Could be an interesting signing if it happens

Most people remember Stockton as someone who couldn't score which is a valid reason for not being keen, as opposed to who he played for.
James Collins had a good scoring record in England either side of his time here, but struggled with us.
So my initial reaction would be disappointment if we do sign him.

Hard one to judge. He was obviously a flop at hearts but something seems to have clicked at Morecambe and he is finding goals.
If it was me making the call I’d say it’s a bit too much of a gamble and he would be coming with extra pressure on his shoulders. Not to mention added grief for the club in general if it doesn’t work out. A man with a point to prove though could work in our favour.

Wouldn't be against it. Hearts version of James Collins - has come to life again down South. He was awful at Hearts but there's clearly a player in there as he is showing now. Has good physique which is something we are missing and is a good age, perhaps matured into a more confident player. Would have a grudge against them aswell. Could be interesting if anything in it
Tend to agree with that

Absolutely no to Cole Stockton. League 1 is a terrible standard - it’s the league that the likes of Josh ****ing Vela thrive in. He’s tried and failed up here - plus he’s a bit dodgy character wise.
My one concern about Johnson was that we’d be quite parochial and with our scouting, looking mainly at the English leagues. I hope Cole Stockton’s aren’t a sign of things to come…

Did he not always play up to them in the media before derbies too?
The goals are the same size in League 1 as they are in Scotland and some of those finishes were exquisite. Re comparison with Christian I would say Stockton looks more mobile and seems very comfortable in one on ones with the keeper, not Christian's strength. He seems a real predatory 6 yard box finisher, something we lack but I found the lack of headed goals quite surprising. I may have been mixing him up with another Hearts "star" a 6 ft 7 striker who couldn't strike! Anyone help?

Some players just don't click at certain clubs or in certain systems. If LJ thinks there's a good player in there and will fit in with the way he wants us to play then I'm happy with that.

A backup striker then maybe worth a shot. But no way should he be coming in as a first choice striker. He’s not good enough for that. His scoring record in his career is poor.
We must have better lined up if we’re serious about getting back to challenging for top 3 and winning a cup.

One thing a lot of us are guilty of is taking either a like or dislike to a certain player and not being able to look at him objectively thereafter
I didn’t rate Doidge at all and posted an ill advised rant about him a couple of years back.
Some assertions I made about his likely stats (based purely on my observations of the player) I was told were nonsense (I checked and they were) and I viewed Doidge in a different light thereafter
IMO he was looking really good before getting injured in training /COVID and I am really sorry for the guy
He looked miles off it when he came back though and I hope for both his and our sake he can get it back.
Our apparent willingness to sell him to Dundee in Jan suggests injury is career limiting which would be a great shame

Whilst Stockton has undoubtedly had a brilliant season in a league not to different standard wise to ours I’d be slightly hesitant as his goalscoring rate before this was awful.
Maybe having moved up leagues he’s now just getting used to the standard and how to play? He’s 28 now so maybe just knows his game better and what’s effective but he’s a late bloomer to say the least.
Similar to RCC I have my reservations after one good season.
The issue at Hibs is we will need to take chances, anyone that’s had more than 1 season like Stockton or RCC will be well out with our budget.
I trust Johnson and he has a specific type of player so whatever my pre conceived ideas are I’ll be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt if he thinks they can do the job.

Whilst Stockton has undoubtedly had a brilliant season in a league not to different standard wise to ours I’d be slightly hesitant as his goalscoring rate before this was awful.

It's probably 2 decent seasons back to back.
Don't think Stockton will be a Hibs player but I'm confident that Johnson will bring in some good players for where we want to be.
I wonder what Sunderland fans were thinking when they were signing Ross Stewart from Ross County 😁

He must have had a half decent season somewhere at some point prior to last season?

I think Liverpool need freshening up, they looked stale and lacked ideas on how to break down Real, Mane has a year left on his deal so Liverpool will want decent money for him to reinvest in the team.

Doidge has got too comfortable, happy with life in Edinburgh, no really trying hard to get a game though, hopefully new manager can change that. Unfortunately too many players alike at the end of the season, not trying a leg in training. David Gray will be reporting back to new gaffer I’m sure. Hopefully big change come pre season with a lot of players attitudes.

Re Doidge, you know that how? One of the key aspects on why the support took to him despite the initial lack of goals was his workrate and determination.
The major Achilles injury (these can be *really* bad) is the likely cause for his sluggishness.it can take a year plus to fully recover.

Keeping posting it doesn't make it true. FWIW I like Christian, mainly because, as others have said, of his attitude and effort. IMO however he's a fairly limited player, his excellence in the air being negated by his lack of pace and poor touch. I hope he recovers his pre injury form and if he does he'll be an asset but I'm not over optimistic.

Utterly crazy views on Doidge. He may have been suffering from his injury or COVID but his attitude has always been spot on and on form is arguably the best non Old Firm target man in the league. If he scores one, he’ll score ten more. When he hasn’t been scoring he holds it up well, defends set pieces and improves those around him.
If there’s a chance of getting him back to full fitness then it would be criminal to let him go.

Karamoko Dembele out of contract at Celtic and definitely worth a punt I'd say. Looked to have real ability from the glimpses I saw of him at Celtic, but he was lightweight and inconsistent. That's typical of wingers his age (he's still only 19) but there's a lot of potential there.

I used to really rate doidge but I'm a bit worried that that last major injury has done him in.
I agree that pre injury he wasn't as slow as some made out, but since coming back into the team he's been getting out paced by most centre backs he's came up against.
Seems to have lost that explosive ability to leap high when going for headers as well.
Hopefully after a pre season he can come back good again but a part of me is thinking that any pace he had and his Arial ability may have been irreversibly lost after that ligament injury.

I'd make that decision for him. He's not worth the hassle imo. Huge ego and would turn toxic if the chips were down. Stockton seems like a very average player. I can't remember him doing anything up here and his career isn't exactly impressive albeit last season he was clearly banging them in. His min to goal ratio in league 1 wasn't far off Ross Stewart's.

I don't get this "career isn't impressive" stuff. Players Hibs are looking at are never going to have really impressive careers unless we're signing them at the tail end of it. We can only really go on the last season or two for a player and hope they can replicate it a level up from where they've done it.

McGinn is an excellent fit in the Villa team, is paid well enough and is a bit of a favourite with the fans but what he is missing in his career so far is European football. If McGinn was to leave Villa then surely the only real pull would be a chance to test himself in the CL or at the very least the Europa? Spurs might be the best fit in that case and there is always the outside chance of a trophy being thrown in there too.

West Ham have investment from a Czech billionaire and are finally filling thr stadium now, so a very different proposition to 2 years ago.
Their short term prospects look brighter than Villa.

You would think with us having an ‘imminent signing’ as reported last week and the early bird deadline being tomorrow that we’d make an announcement today to boost sales?
On a side not, there was mention of a previous Celtic striker being linked. I came across the name of one today that intrigued me, Daniel Arzani.
23 year old Australian who is signed for Man City but out of contract in the summer.

SJM will go to the club that is going to further his career with European involvement being key. And where he is going to have a pivotal role preferably in the role he gets with Scotland.
Most of all that transfer is great news for Hibs and St Mirren.
He’s the sort of gentleman who will be keen to see his old teams benefit from his transfer move. But it has to be right for him.

Regularly searching John McGinn's name on Twitter and it looks like there's a very strong possibility of him going to West Ham or Spurs. Fee around 50 million. What a game-changing bonanza that would be. Might hear a bit more when he returns from international duty.
Dunno why he’d leave Villa for West Ham.

I have never understood this, they are 2 of our best players. Why would we want to sell them? Any funds received and more would have to be spent to get the same quality in those positions back into the club. Any offer for them would have to be exceptional and I doubt that will happen.

From memory he was the one saying Johnson was getting the job before the press and then reported McGeady before the press too. Think he rubbished the Stockton one when it was initially reported and think there’s potentially another one or two he’s mentioned but has been spot on lately 👍🏻

Possibly because it would allow us to sign players to become a better team overall.
Keeping in mind we’d probably be looking at £5m or so for the two of them, that gives us a hell of a lot of money to play with.
I’d also argue that at this point in time, neither of them are irreplaceable. Anyone buying Doig is buying him for his potential, same with Porteous but to a lesser degree. I don’t think it’s out with the realms of possibility that we could get players of a similar standard in for free/small fees. They maybe wouldn’t have the sell on value in future these two have of course.
