No, I've been a fan of Hickey as a talent since he was at them.. The boys a serious baller with a nice touch, great left foot and a superb mentality towards his football.
But he's not a right back. If we're going to play a left back there it should be a more experienced player - he was hung out to dry
Hickey has played several times on the right for Bologna.

Just heard from a close pal that’s a dundee utd fan that Jack Ross wants to sign Paul Mcginn (jack Ross Will be announced as dundee utd manager on Monday for those who don’t know) but Paul will have options elsewhere, can definitely see him linking up with jack ross again seemed to have been a big fan of him

Dundee Utd have a couple of decent younger RB's unless he wants him because he's versatile and trusts him.
Have seen a number of Utd fans saying they can see Doidge turning up there.

At least twice this season with the rest of the Hibs team as we pump them both times 🤣
Jack Ross teams can't defend crosses, as we know, so just need to give the ball to Jair (rhymes with Jair) 😉

Aye, could have been two Scottish Cups and a League Cup in the bag.
Think the actual stat was that we didn’t lose a headed goal (from a cross) in the league in 20/21. Still lost goals from crosses I think, just not headed. And we made up for that element of it early doors last season.

They are.
However - we've not seen much of Clarke, and he was only ever with us on loan. Porto is going into the last year of his contract and this way we'll get some cash to replace him. Doig I'd love to see stay, kick on a bit more and earn us all later once he's established himself in his best position (not LCB) but if there is decent money on offer then it would be hard not to take it.
Together it will allow Johnson to properly put his own stamp on the team.

If we get good money for Doig I'd like to see us bid for Jason Kerr. I know he's a different position but it would be a sensible way to reinvest the money.

The money Aberdeen are getting for that laddie on the back of a terrible season for Aberdeen makes the McGinn deal to Villa seem ridiculous doesn't it? He was a cup winner and an International by the time we sold him.
I know about the sell ons but they are always a gamble. Definitely sold McGinn on the cheap.

i hate to say it, but in my very long time supporting hibs, i have never seen us spend most of the money earned, after receiving a good transfer fee, or fees, and i include the most recent transfer fee for martin , in that analysis.
i would much rather watch porto play next season for us, than get a replacement.

I don't know why people keep saying we sold McGinn on the cheap. He only had 1 year left on his deal. Ramsay had several years left, as does Doig so they are not comparable. To get over £2m for McGinn with one year left and to also negotiate add ons was good business in anyone's books.

This. If McGinn was to move on this summer we’d be nearing £10 million in total from his transfer. Which is great for someone who had a year left when we sold him

They're very different for many reasons.
Right at the start of the window vs right at the end - We didn't have time to negotiate because if the window shut we lost him for nothing a year later
Much bigger club in a better position buying him
Longer on his contract I assume?
The lad is 18, giving him years and years ahead of him. McGinn improved since leaving but not as much as Ramsey could. McGinn was more proven yes, but also had much less room to improve.

Said countless times on here it's highly unlikely now. He's gonna command a massive fee, Villa don't need to sell, he's in no rush to go anywhere, and who would pay what Villa want for him? I highly doubt anyone will.
It's rumoured every summer and there's never even been a serious bid for him, so it's all paper talk and incredibly unlikely. Add in the fact he's coming off the back of one of his worst seasons for Villa.
If it was going to happen it would have happened the first year after the promotion for Villa, but he got injured and that probably scuppered any chance of it that season.
If he goes then by all accounts come back to this post and say how wrong I was, but the only club that genuinely seem interested are Spurs, and I don't think they're forking out the cash needed.
If you mean Paul Mcginn, probably. Not needed, won't need to wait for a fee, assume if someone's interested Hibs will just allow him to go for next to nothing.

You're maybe correct, but I still think he's better than anyone at the club who plays in a defensive role with the possible exception of Porteous.
We didn't see a lot of him but from what I seen he was a very good player. Good athlete, quick and strong, read the game well and technically was very good. He was out of our price range for a reason.

Regardless of what foot is his strongest (, clearly he's very good with both) he's played most of his football on the left - therefore right back is not his natural position on the pitch.. He's played the total of about 3 games there his whole career ffs

Are people more receptive to opposing opinions on there? Considering signing up
Teams are paying for potential with Doig. In terms of current ability, we will be able to sign a player at a similar level for much less money and use the rest to strengthen elsewhere. Selling, as long as the fee is reasonable, is a no brainer for me.
Porto is a different story, imo we will struggle to sign someone as good as him given our wage limits. If he goes, we will be weaker in defence. I think we would be better off keeping him even if he doesn't sign a new deal and we lose him for free next summer.

If the Rocky rumour is true then maybe the reason we bought him is because it’s a low fee and we knew he had other interest that would gain us a ,albeit small, profit.
Would make the comments about signing him odd and I imagine make us get stick in the media, but if he and McGinn signed extensions and we get a profitable fee for both them surely that can be classed as good business?
Lots of ifs and buts though.

Would make the comments about signing him odd and I imagine make us get stick in the media, but if he and McGinn signed extensions and we get a profitable fee for both them surely that can be classed as good business?
Lots of ifs and buts though.
We had to buy him because we made a James hunt of the loan deal. The terms of the deal were ludicrous in the first place then someone at the club wasn't paying attention which resulted in us having to buy him. Hibs don't want him and will absolutely be trying to move him on.

Does anyone actually know the actual details of the deal?
We all knew Hibs had an option to buy and in the statement it said an option had been triggered through the amount of appearances?
That could be if he plays x amount of games you can have him for 250k and Rocky is entitled the the contract we agreed with him in January and we’ve thought it’s worth it?
I struggle to believe the only way we signed him is if he played x amount of games and we had to take up the option, with the club only noticing last minute and being obliged to sign him.

He does the same when ho his left cuts inside onto his right. Seems to pretty much always go for a safe ball. Technically good but probably needs to move to a more progressive team.

I've watched quite a bit of him this season and that's not what i've seen. When he's played LWB he's overlapped and been quite happy to go on the outside into the final third. When I've seen him on the right, he rarely crosses the halfway line.

i hate to say it, but in my very long time supporting hibs, i have never seen us spend most of the money earned, after receiving a good transfer fee, or fees, and i include the most recent transfer fee for martin , in that analysis.
i would much rather watch porto play next season for us, than get a replacement.
We've usually spent the money before it's earned.
That we don't shell out big headline sums to buy players is true, but all the money is used to keep the team going whether that's on wages or signing on fees etc.
Unless you suggesting someone has been trousering the transfer fees...

Yeah. There's over 45 players between the first team and development team. Obviously a sliding scale there in wages but it's a massive squad we are running and it will be costing a pretty penny

I’m really worried that he will stay at Villa few more years until his value has massively plummeted. Just like Scott Brown any sell on clause may not come to anything. Like you say, I don’t think he is quite good enough for the top 5 and why would he move sideways?
At the end of the day good on him for making a great career for himself but it would be amazing for us to get a big payday from his move.

Because if Villa want shot of him and he can make a fairly significant amount of money extra by moving to Leeds he would rather go somewhere he is wanted.
If clubs are accepting bids for players it’s because they’d rather they moved on and got the money for him, SJM will know that.

I don’t really care where he goes.
All I care about is the net fee we get and get it early to help shape our remaining transfer activity. Assuming £50m / 15% & St Mirren 33% = c£5m then it could be the difference of a high quality striker and say extended deal for Porto. Might stop us selling Doig for a lesser fee as well.

Best thing for us to have happened re McGinn would have been for Villa to get relegated - therefore a move to any number of inferior clubs might have been seen as step back up for him, clubs who still throw a decent bit of money around.
There's not any good reason for him to leave Villa for any of the clubs who are likely to be interested in him.
Having said that, he'd improve the likes of Man Utd. It's just whether or not they actually want to sign players who will improve them or just exist as a wasting ground for underperforming temperamental superstars.

Calm doon.
They're definitely favourites for third, but they're hardly signing quality over quantity. Alan Forrest is a half decent signing, but I'm no convinced he'll even get a game for Hearts, is he really any better than GMS? Some boy who's played less than 20 games for Dundee Utd, and an Aussie centre half who I doubt anyone knows much about. Jorge Grant, he's played at a good level, but I've never heard of him, so I couldnae say if that's a good signing or no.
They've already lost 3 players who played regularly for them last season though, in Simms and Souttar, who were 2 of their best players, plus Cochrane has gone back to Brighton.

The biggest player for them is already on their books. I doubt anyone takes pleasure in bigging up a jambo but Gordon last season was different class. He must have saved them 20+ points on his own. Without him they would have been in the same melee that we and most of the rest of the league were in. If Gordon has another season like that then they will finish third.....the players they have lost or the ones they bring in are just window dressing.

If your not convinced Forrest gets a game for Hearts then it shows how far off we are to them atm, they are signing guys with little risk factor too, someone put up a list of our signings between january and so far this summer and the vast majority are a risk or based on potential. Worrying and I'll continue to worry until proven quality comes through that door.

I think he’d be a great signing for a year or two.
Forrest wouldn't get a game for us either which is why our last 4 managers had no interest in signing him.

Gordon do doubt is a great keeper - he's also a very very lucky one. That can't last forever.

People are forgetting how dreadful Hearts were last season. Did anyone watch the cup final or our our semi? Hibs and Aberdeen won't have all the upheaval next season and Dundee United will push on under Ross. They aren't stick ons for third in my eyes. They were just less consistently pish than the rest of us.
Hearts were good last season. They finished miles ahead of everyone else.
Dundee United won’t push on from a 4th place finish. They’ll probably not even match it.
Imo.

Maybe he wants to move back to Scotland? Likewise I think Marshall could have got a club in England if he wanted to stay there. I've no idea to be honest, but he's a level above our current attacking options in that area IMO.

I’m in the same boat with a few regarding Hearts, they’re *****.
Don’t buy into the Gorgie globetrotter hype that the press have run up for them. They were very similar to us, best of the rest and no more than that.
Souttar & Simms are massive losses for them & I certainly wouldn’t be getting a stiffy over Forrest & Shankland either.

I’d be delighted with McGeady.
Less so with Fletcher purely due to the comments I read about him from Stoke fans about him not being mobile and looking his age.
I think we could accommodate one 36 year old in McGeady but him and Fletcher together wouldn’t really show the fast, energetic football we expect under Johnson.
I imagine he’s still brilliant at linking play and leading the like though and someone like Melkersen would learn loads from him.

Ross will suit his team up similar to us where we’re reasonably solid and organised defensively and hit on the counter with pace.
With how we play under Johnson we’ll inevitably get done on the counter a few times.

Wonder what the Aberdeen fans are thinking about selling Ramsay to Liverpool and replacing him with a player who was on loan in the National League.

Can you guarantee quality at 36 for an outfield player? the legs will give up at some stage for even the most dedicated Pro, Mcgeady loses a turn of pace for example we're left with a Jamie Murphy type issue.
surely there's enough scope to look at a player heading towards 30 to tell if he's worth signing, a performance history/data to look at unlike recent signings surely less of a gamble, I just feel the need to get experience shouldn't mean we go to the opposite extreme
