Farage doesn't get the air time he does simply because the media facilitates it. He does so because, like it or not, he's arguably the most influential figure in British politics of the last decade, ever since the days when he transformed UKIP from a fringe act to a significant political force.
As I said in my previous post, the shift in what has ticked the boxes of so many voters during that time is what's played into the hands of more right-wing governments. It's not just the big beasts like immigration, but cultural issues like gender ideology where the centre/left have dropped the ball. In Scotland, for example, Nicola Sturgeon's obsession with such issues has exacerbated situations like the extraordinary court case currently playing out in Dundee where a qualified doctor expects to be taken seriously when claiming biology is an opinion rather than a science and that a biological man is woman just because he says he is. Extraordinarily, when you consider some of his past comments about (and behaviour around) women, Donald Trump has arguably achieved more for women's rights since taking office by signing a directive against biological males taking part in women's sport than 'feminist to my fingertips' Sturgeon did during her whole time as first minister.
He was getting and continues to get more than his fair share of coverage from the BBC. How does his involvement with a political party that only became relevant up to the Brexit vote merit him having 1.5 appearances per year on Question Time for example? He has the 4th highest appearance rate on Question Time and has been on the panel 37 times since 2000.

I don't watch Question Time as I think it's awful, but my sister-in-law was a BBC researcher some years ago and I remember her telling me they'd sometimes struggle to balance the panel when it came to politicians, particularly if the government of the day was taking particularly heavy flak for something. Might explain why Farage is a bit of a go-to guest in the appearance table (who are the three above him?). He's not one to shirk an opportunity.

You’re wrong there, or at least you’re confusing the issues you feel strongly about wity the ones that the majority of other voters do. Although (regrettably in my view) attitudes against trans people have hardened in recent years, gender issues are nowhere near the key issues that voters report to be most concerned about, not even in the top ten in any reputable polling. Despite the fact it generates clicks, its ‘sex’, so it sells, and so gets way more news coverage than it deserves, people just couldnt give a monkeys about someones gender identity or whether or not concessions are made for them. Check the polling. ONS or yougov should do.
The economy is what has motivated people to vote the way they do and that remains the case today. The reason immigration remains an issue of concern for US and UK voters is PRECISELY because its seen as being about the economy; somehow the billionaire class has persuaded the working class that years of them robbing state assets in the form of tax cuts for themselves ISNT the reason living standards are falling through the floor for 90% of us, itsall thefault of brown people in rubber dinghies fleeing persecution and conflict :dunno: Health, education, war and crime follow, but gender, or ‘family issues’? (Widely used as a euphemism for not liking gays/trans/legal abortion-something that COST Trump plenty of support, incidentally)Nowhere to be seen in the top areas of concern.

Nigel Farage hasn't exactly become just a peripheral political non-entity post-Brexit though has he? Judging by current polling he's a good bet to hold the balance of power at the next election and I'd go so far as to say that if the election was tomorrow Reform would be causing Starmer (and the Tories) a sleepless night. Irrespective of what we might think of his political views, he's a much sharper cookie than a lot of people once believed.

There's no question that the Republicans' clever 'Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you' slogan gained enormous traction. It's also hard to miss the coverage of the court case in Dundee as it's the main story on the Scottish news most days. Easy to say nobody gives a monkeys about someone's gender identity if you're a man, but the potential impact on women's rights had the Scottish government's legislation not been blocked was of deep concern to many.
It's also probably quite easy as Scots to take the moral high ground on immigration when the 'brown people in rubber dinghies' are landing on the south coast of England. If they were floating up the Clyde or the Forth I suspect we'd see a shift in perspective from more than a few voters.

Yes, I understand his point. All I'm saying is that immigration isn't some sort of convenient excuse or irrelevance. It's a significant and newsworthy issue, as is gender 'nonsense'. Thankfully the Cass review looks to have drawn some kind of line in the sand when it comes to the damage being done to young people. Unfortunately, the fight to maintain women's rights looks set to continue if some of the (almost) laughable claims being made at the Dundee tribunal are taken seriously.

I know this is my own fault for buying a house near a railway line but a peeve of mine is Network Rail doing work on the line during the night. The line that heads to Fife, Dundee, etc. is behind the houses across the road from us. We got a letter from Network Rail at the end of last year informing us they'd be imminently starting works to electrify the line and this would be done six nights a week overnight and it would last a year.
Last night we got woken at 3am with the noise of piling (this must be it starting). Went on for a couple of hours. Similar happened last Autumn when they were testing the suitability of the ground for the works but that was restricted to Saturday nights into Sunday. The current work being on "school nights" is a bit crap. I hope its a case that they are moving along the line as time goes on so we might not have to suffer for a whole year but the test work that was done was heard miles away so I'm not confident.
I appreciate it can't be done whilst the line is operational but six nights a week is taking the piss.

Loads of these influencers are claiming to be natural and it's evidently bollocks to anyone with eyes (and I know guys on gear still have to put the work in). They are projecting an image that is totally unachievable for young lads but they start to believe it's realistic because it's force fed to them. 'Just eat more', 'just up your protein', 'go into more of a deficit' etc etc.
That in turn creates a toxic culture in which the same young guys have unrealistic expectations of what others should look like and disparage them with pretty hurtful comments on social media because a perfectly normal body is painted as something disgusting. Tbh I notice it happening to men almost as much as women. It's anything but an empowering community.

The undermining of women's rights is a serious issue nevertheless. As is the fate of confused or vulnerable kids prescribed puberty blockers or persuaded to undergo irreversible surgery. It was an issue managed to slip under the radar of wider public awareness for too long.

My partner does weightlifting and strongwomen competition, and some of the comments she’s had from people when she’s getting her cardio in because she’s not a size zero are ****ing horrific. Usually she’s out on her bike and they’re in their cars which is a good thing because if someone said what has been said to her and they were on foot, theyd be leaving with a very sore face.
Again, I can only think of once receiving a similar comment in the past, and I was downright overweight back then as well.
There is a problem in general as to how people perceive body shapes different to what is considered “normal” in society (I.e. bodybuilder for men, size zero for women) but it’s so much more in one direction than the other.

I agree the balance is massively tipped one way (although I would argue women can be absolutely brutal in how they speak about other women so it's no solely a man thing) but I have definitely noticed a growing trend for guys who are trying their best getting horrendous abuse or negative comments by other guys who must have started as beginners themselves once upon a time.

Guy said to my wife "we can't take it away, it is integrated".
Wife: It isn't integrated
Guy: Yes it is. It is screwed in.
Wife: No it is isn't. [Proceeds to pull it out to prove it isn't screwed in.
Guy: Ah but it is under a counter with a door in front of it, so it is classed as integrated, so I can't take it. [The door is in no way attached to the machine BTW]
Wife: That's ridiculous. [Pulls it completely past the edge of the counter.] Now its not.
Guy concedes the point but what a load of nonsense.

They then try and flog you a paid option to pick your seat - again, I understand that if you want to be in a certain bit of the plane. Click the button to allocate seats. We aren't together. Again, I could understand it if only single seats were available but my seat had two free seats next to it - and there were plenty of free seats where it was 2/3 empty together. Ended up paying to move my wife next to me.

Ridiculous. That's got to come down to spite pure and simple. It wouldn't surprise me if their booking system is pre-programmed to ensure you don't get seats together if you don't pay for the 'privilege'.
I can't stand Ryanair and refuse to fly with them. We have to a bit more selective about some holidays but it's worth it to avoid them.

The lack of any sort of enforcement from stewards unless they are dealing with kids! Had some drunken erse in the West Upper today, falling about everywhere, sitting in ST holders seats, refusing to move and then producing a half bottle of whisky. Steward is called, does nothing as he looks like a frightened rabbit and calls his supervisor who attends and takes the bottle off the guy and escorts him down the steps. Five minutes later the erse returns and sit on the steps causing an obstruction next to the steward who ignores him!!! It wasn’t until the erse them stood up and began watching the game standing and obscuring folk views that the steward listened to the numerous complaints and asked the guy to move! Absolutely pointless employing stewards who are too timid to respond. Rant over.

FlixBus.
Gave them a shot this weekend (along with Ember on the Saturday) as it's far cheaper than the petrol I'd pay for driving to either place.
Ember were great - I've used them before. Got a text to say the bus was running six minutes late. Clean bus, made the time up quickly, plenty of space, very comfortable. Would use again quite happily, even over driving. Once they were about 25 minutes late and without asking, got a text message within ten minutes of departure saying that I'd get a full refund as credit on my account of the journey. Very professional and got the sense of them taking a bit of pride in what they do.
Flixbus - got to the stance. No bus arrives. Another bus from them arrives going somewhere else - someone else in the queue asks for an update and the staff member (blowing vape smoke all over everyone) gives them a very blunt and arrogant answer. Again, nothing happens and give up after half an hour of waiting and I book a train as I'd be missing what I had to be through in Glasgow for.
They will only give a refund as credit for a future trip if their bus is delayed by two whole hours or more. What kind of service for a coach journey of under two hours is seen to be acceptable if it were to be one hour and fifty-nine minutes late?

Cold Callers, especially ones who try to be smarmy smart erses when the wife answers the door. Listened to one boy repeatedly ignore the wife’s not interested answer before going to the door myself and asking if he was deaf before closing the door in his face. Had another yesterday who gave me the same old story of doing work for your neighbour up the road and lots of your neighbours have also asked us to quote, told him he was talking bollox and shut the door.
I had Hello Fresh practically putting my door in 4 times in the same day last week.
Their last attempt was at 8.30pm when I just got my teething 8 month old to sleep. The boy just about got launched down the stairs.
Footballers who pass the ball behind their teammate, forcing the recipient to check their run and sometimes have to backtrack to collect the ball, losing the momentum of the play and giving the opposition extra seconds to track back defensively, or pressure the player getting the ball.
It happens so often, so frustrating

Hangovers. Absolute bogging today after spending yesterday on the peeve in Glasgow and I'm a mess today.
Every time I see a video of Sunshine On Leith it's got me welling up, I feel physically incapable of anything and only now at 4pm I feel vaguely more human.

I know we’re in in a flexible world and focussed on work life balance, as it should be. However is it normal to be on a teams call and one of the stakeholders, and their camera is on, has a treadmill under their standing desk and walking on it during the call? Didn’t have any impact on their input to the call, just looked very odd. Or am I an out of touch dinosaur?

Pancake day.
Why the **** are stupid wee pancakes so hard to make? Supposed to be fun little activity with the family that ends up with Mum and Dad stressed and the two bairns acting like they’ve just been told Santa isn’t coming because they’re pancakes look like they’ve been dug up from St Mirrens pitch.
I couldn’t have the hob on any lower, I could probably hold my hand on top of it and get a nice warmth, yet the edges of my pancake resembled something that fell out of Chernobyl’s reactor even though the middle was still raw.
Have you ever seen a pancake smoking on a plate? I have.

Working from home, or rather folk that work from home.
Last year I was trimming my hedge around 2pm on a weekday afternoon when a neighbour I barely knew asked me to "maybe do it later" as they were on a Teams call and the noise was distracting.
Then yesterday afternoon, whilst doing a little DIY in my garage around lunchtime, another neighbour has now came out and asked if I can do it at the weekend as they're working from home.
No, no I'll not do it later, I am home and not working so I have little jobs I need to catch up on.
If folk are so sensitive to nose during the working day, maybe head back in to the sanctuary offered by their office?!?
The irony is I do shifts, when I'm sleeping in the a.m they think nothing of mowing their lawns or getting skips delivered (seems to be a regular occurrence) but the difference is I know to expect levels of noise during the day.

I wouldn't dream of doing that when I work from home. We get a fair bit of noise at lunchtimes as we live next to two secondary schools and for some reason the kids' play park that's part of our development has become the lunchtime hangout spot for what seems like entire roll of both schools (I'm exaggerating). I wouldn't dream of saying anything to them.
Before we moved here, and still during covid times (May/June 2021), we had a similar situation to you. We had a gap between moving from the old place to the new place so were renting a flat in Leith that was an AirBnB. One day, I was on a work call and my wife had not long left for work when there was a knock at the door. Answered it and it was the woman who lived downstairs complaining that she could hear us moving around the flat, could hear us flush the toilet and could sometimes hear us talking on Teams calls. Apparently it was very distracting for her when she was on Teams calls and when she was working. She told us they were used to not having anyone above them as the flat had been vacant since the start of the pandemic so she told us (not asked) that we should refrain from moving during day, not flush the toilet and keep Teams calls to a minimum. I politely told her where to go.
A couple of weeks later we got woken up early doors on a Monday morning (7 ish) with banging - turned out that the same folk were getting full kitchen and bathroom refurbishments and new windows put in. It was noisy from like 7 to 3 every day for a couple of weeks. Was very tempted to go complain but my wife stopped me.

You get them on drinkable yoghurts, and because you shake the yoghurt first some of it ends up on the inside of the lid. Then you go to drink it and the stupid attached lid is hanging off the side of the bottle dripping bloody yogurt down your clothes.

I said that earlier in the thread. I see these memes with people having the attached lid pressed right against their nose and can't figure why they don't just rotate the bottle slightly. Even if you have really fat cheeks it would miss them to the side.
I get why people might find it a bit patronising or can see why a milkshake or yoghurt might be a bit of an issue but for a bottle of juice I can't say it's ever hindered my ability to drink it at all.

I quite happily leave it on and never even notice it when I swig the bottle, some folk must not be able to work out how to rotate the bottle so it’s not in the way 😀 Each to their own though 👍

The fact there are about 20 flights depart Edinburgh Airport before 7.15am on a weekday morning but the first tram doesn't get there until 6.16. Basically rendering the flagship and very expensive public transport option useless for early morning flights.
I'm flying out tomorrow at 7.05am and it's £40-50 in a taxi or an hour and 20 minute on the bus leaving at 4.25. I could risk the tram but it's leaving almost no margin for error at all. Surely having a couple of trams start an hour earlier isn't too much to ask.

The taxi prices are a joke to and from the airport. Our flights back from France often get in late. The last time i did it the driver was also going over 80 on the bypass in wet conditions for some reason.

Last time I was in Edinburgh, I stayed out at the airport and commuted back and forth. I found the buses to be much faster than the tram. You're point still stands though.

That ties in about right with £59 from Dalkeith then, no?
I'm just before Newcraighall and I'm about £18-20 to/from the east end in a taxi, say another £2-3 to Haymarket then £25 to the airport gives you £45-50.

Last few times, we have really struggled to get anything to accept an airport job (to or from) - Uber, Gett, Black Cab companies own apps, PH, etc. - other than Capital Cars who have the contract there.

Because it's a PHC you have to pre book the car or it then becomes an illegal pickup, by giving him your details means you've pre booked the next car. Gett, Freenow, Central and City cabs are all black cabs which will be metered fare and will pick you up from the drop off area.

As someone who hasn't seen any of the newer Ghostbusters films, I would tend to agree with you.
However, I've come to accept that these films aren't aimed at me. They are made by directors younger than me for audiences younger still.
Kids born in 2010 aren't interested in the versions of films we love.
It is why Hollywood has been repeating films as long as it's been making them.
On that note I was looking to watch the parent trap. I'll probably go for the 60s version, available on Disney plus, over the Linsey Lohan reboot...

I'm not sure if this is controversial or not but it probably will be.
People abusing the 'free' bus pass. I was on a bus yesterday and the number of groups of teenagers who got on for one stop was ridiculous. If they had to pay £1.50 or whatever it is for a kid these days then they would have walked 200 yards. Not just the bairns either. One of my neighbours is very early 60s, still fit and active and he plays golf multiple times a week so can walk a fair distance. I've seen him jump on the bus one stop to get his paper then stand and wait and jump on the bus back. It is literally a shorter distance to walk direct to the shop than it is to walk to and from the bus stop at either end.
I like the scheme, I want people to be encouraged to use public transport and I'd extend it further. It isn't free though, every tap is paid for (well 57% is) by the Scottish Government. It just seems a wee bit responsibility wouldn't go amiss.

I live next to Forrester school and I needed to go pick something up from the industrial estate at Bankhead one lunchtime last week. I couldn't believe how busy the tram stop was with school kids. I initially thought they might have just been hanging out there, but a tram came and they all piled on. I'm guessing they were doing the one stop to Edinburgh Park to go to Hermiston Gate.
I've been unlucky/stupid to get a bus around their finishing time and it is mental. Like you say, a lot are only on one or two stops. By the time they wait on the bus, they'd definitely be quicker walking.

I'd equate yours to someone going on a day trip to Stirling Castle, as an example, and using their pass. A non essential journey but one made for pleasure or out of curiosity and part of the idea behind the scheme to keep over 60s active and sociable. It might not be a journey they would make if they had to pay but on balance it's a societal positive.
It's not comparable to a teenager getting a bus rather than walking a couple of hundred yards or a fit, still relatively young guy actively choosing to take a longer journey rather than walking a route that is shorter in terms of both actual distance and time. I'd argue neither would make those choices if they had to tap their own card or put a few coins in the slot but would still make the journey anyway, just on foot. It's equatable to people who pile up their plate with far more food than they intend to eat at a buffet at an all inclusive holiday resort because it's 'free'. Ultimately it drives up the cost for everyone over time.

You make fair points but some of them could be made about free prescriptions, and that's why I'm uneasy about the policy of charging to discourage abuse. It's fairly widely agreed that Scottish society wants everyone to have the best access to medicines, and the way that's been chosen to achieve that is to make prescriptions free and just suck up the cost of any abuse. Many people also want to see more public transport use and less private car use in the city of Edinburgh. It might be that an appropriate way to help achieve that would be to make bus travel free for everyone in the city, rather than remove the existing perk for annoying young people...
But that's getting away from your main peeve, which is that young, lazy or greedy people are annoying. Totally concur :agree:

Sneak back at night and go through their bins. Simply take out any empty Asda milk bottles, scratch out the dates, and refill them with whatever milk is easiest for you to buy.

My peeve is about how German I've become. It really infuriates me when people can't abide by simple rules designed to make life easier, fairer and more efficient for everyone.
In Berlin airport there are lines drawn around the luggage belt about a meter away from the belt itself, with signs saying you should only step inside the line to retrieve your luggage. The idea is that everyone can see their luggage coming and step forward to retrieve it, but as always there are some people who don't think that applies to them and happily block everyone's view. ****ing morons.

Ticketmaster. Honestly for a major company they are utterly ****ing hopeless.
Bought tickets for an event for my wife and sister. Tickets are those ones with the 'active' barcodes' so screenshots won't work. Trying to transfer to the people who will be using them, Ticketmaster won't allow me to as it has detected 'suspicious activity' and suspended my account temporarily.
Nothing is ever, ever simple with them.

My account has been paused with them for months due to suspect activity, there hasn't been any at all, deleting cookies, incognito mode, different devices, mobile data, WiFi, nothing has worked to unlock it, I'm going to have to contact them at some point but haven't had the will to do it yet

Delivery charges!!
Trying to buy a catering oven at around £600 - £700 every company based in England offers free delivery to the UK mainland, excluding the Highlands and. Additional 10% for delivery to perthshire.
Advertising standards agency advice is that I’m not in the Highlands!!
It's frustrating and also illegal practice.

This is probably beyond Peeve territory but its Loganair.
We lost my grandad last week, he was the spark at family gatherings and will be sorely missed. So naturally, loads of us are making the journey back to Shetland for the funeral next week.
Flights are at minimum £600 return per person from Edinburgh, my cousin is travelling from Manchester and my brother is booking all the flights.
Even with a compassionate fare to make it more affordable for people to travel at times like this they're £1,500 to go Manchester to Aberdeen and on to Sumburgh. Without the compassionate fare they'd be paying £2,400.
How on earth can this be justified? Planes are rarely full, with the exception of Oil Worker changeover days. They are not luxurious by any stretch, and last time I flew to Shetland I had 2 failed take offs and a 4 hour delay, so reliability can be problematic.
I'm paying £345 for single flight home after the funeral on the Thursday morning, between my wifes return and that fare we are knocking on for £1000 WITH compassionate discount.
It's such a staggering amount of money, how can it be justified?

Ouch. Sorry to hear about your loss.
I guess the flights being rarely full is a part of the reason. They could often be running this route with a pretty small profit margin with all costs considered. I guess there's probably no upselling for premium seats on these flights either to compound that.
I imagine, and it's largely a guess, the takeoff and landing are going to be the most expensive parts of a flight in terms of fuel burn. That's also the time where they'll need to pay for ground crew and airport space. So with shorter distances covered there's again perhaps a squeeze on the margin.
That being said, the price does seem incredibly high and it could just be shameless profiteering- even with the compassionate discounts (quite generous in % terms even if starting off from a very high position!).

I knew these type of routes were expensive, but these prices are ridiculous. Business travel reasons keep these fares high - oil and gas etc related companies don't question prices
very much and the airline has no or little competition from other carriers.
Residents receive discounts on eg Glasgow to Islay flights. Good on you all for going despite the cost.

Appreciate that, thanks :aok:
But isn't a bit chicken and egg? Like, if you made fares more affordable more people would fly, and you could even have a slightly bigger plane if the demand was there.
Part of the problem is the oil business, and latterly the Viking wind farms which are being commissioned at the moment, these companies just pay the money, but it won't last forever.
It's great news for the ferry operators who have kept prices fairly stable and as such the boat is rammed from April to October.

Train fares.
They just make no sense at all. I had to buy a single only the other day. £12. The day return was £11.80. I know it's only 20p but in what world does that make any sense? I would even get it if the return was only 20p more expensive but I double, triple and quadruple checked it, no off peak restrictions, no anytime option etc etc. It was definitely cheaper to buy the return so I did.
Also bought tickets for a train to Birmingham the other day. One train was £118 return, the one that left 12 minutes earlier and was 25 minutes quicker was £72 return. Make it make sense.
(Oh and both Birmingham options were significantly more expensive than flying even accounting for the short hop from International to New Street at the other end).

I think some of this is down to regulated fares. As I understand it, regulated fares are (were?) limited in how much they could be increased each year, but only certain routes count as regulated. This means that those routes can only go up relatively slowly in price, but tickets for other routes can go up as much as the operator feels like. Over the years this builds up weird discrepancies in seemingly similar routes.
For example, when I lived in Glasgow and regularly took the Queen St to Waverley train, it was quite a bit cheaper to buy a ticket to Inverkeithing going east and to Hyndland going west, because somehow that made it a regulated route.
Exactly why it's like that is another question.

Yeah - the fares are nonsense. Sometimes you're cheaper buying for a longer route too i.e. had you purchased Kirkcaldy to Birmingham.
They should give each segment of rail a price, and you pay for each segment on your journey. Something like that.
Similar, but also the opposite, with the buses - I travel from West Lothian to Edinburgh and it's cheaper to get 2 singles than it is a return. I didn't know this the first time and when I asked for a return the driver - kindly - offered up the fact that I was cheaper to buy singles.

Another thing that annoys me about train fares is the non-uniformity of what is a peak or off-peak ticket. Generally off-peak on weekdays after 9.15am but if your service leaves from Waverley, Haymarket, Central or Queen Street to certain destinations, there's evening restrictions between 16.42 and 18.11 but for some reason the 17.59 train from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central is excluded from this (admittedly it takes an hour and a half). Then the 18.15 trains in either direction from Waverley/QS are included, likewise with 18.35 Waverley to Aberdeen.
Its so confusing. Just make it a standard time.
Also, the pricing of stations in Edinburgh is stupid too. I live near both South Gyle and Edinburgh Park stations. Edinburgh Park to Waverley is more expensive than South Gyle to Waverley, despite taking the exact same time. I would love an Edinburgh day ticket (or return ticket) on the train too. So I could maybe go into the City Centre from South Gyle but return on an Edinburgh Park service.
Edit: just checked something on the Edinburgh station prices too. I also live within walking distance of Edinburgh Gateway. That's comparatively substantially more expensive than South Gyle (£1) but is only one station away from it on the same line. Not all services stop at both stations so quite often if you put South Gyle to Waverley/Haymarket into the Scotrail app, it will tell you to get a train from S Gyle to Gateway and change train and it is the cheaper S Gyle to Waverley/Haymarket price. So someone going from Gateway to Waverley will pay £1 more than someone who has started at South Gyle, changed at Gateway and got on the same train as them to Waverley.

I've mentioned this before. It's mad that there is no one size fits all return ticket for all stations within the Edinburgh boundary.
I get the train from Brunstane a couple of times a month. Sometimes it's better for me to get the train to Edinburgh Park, other times South Gyle or Wester Hailes and the return likewise; it's not always uniform and not always the same station that I arrive and depart from. Despite them all being broadly the same distance and time if I do arrive and depart form different stations you have to buy 2 singles which almost doubles the price. As an example if I get a return to Edinburgh Park then it's £4.80. If I arrive to South Gyle but return from Edinburgh Park it's £8.10.
There seems mystery within government as to why we are miles away from meeting targets to reduce car usage but stuff like that will discourage people from using public transport. A standardised return fare within the boundaries of a small city, in relative terms, should be a no brainer. I suppose we have only had contactless on buses for a couple of years and tap on tap off is only just getting rolled out on trams now (about 10 years after TFL launched it in London) so we are probably a decade or 2 away from any further joined up thinking.

Worse than their pricing is their insistence of using two carriage services for routes that need a minimum of three for any semblance of passenger comfort.
