And Moretti is brewed in Edinburgh!
Any idea where about in Edinburgh it's brewed?
I'm sure I've asked her before and never got a definitive answer. Folk seem to suggest the Gyle, but to my knowledge, there is no brewing facility there.
That would leave the Caley Brewery but unsure if they'd have the capacity to brew Moretti (along with their other lines) at the volume required?

Caley were certainly brewing Moretti and Heineken for a while.
I think some of the Caley production switched out to Belhaven as part of a deal Heineken struck, Belhaven are definitely going to be brewing Deuchars when the Caley brewery closes completely, so possibly some will be brewed there too.
I'd be surprised if the entirety of the UKs Moretti is brewed in (or near) Edinburgh given the other sites Heineken has available to it.

I don't think such stories are all that uncommon in the drinks industry.
Innis & Gunn have been the darling of a breed of Scottish drinker for years yet never owned or operated a brewery for the first decade and a half of their existence and still haven't opened their own purpose built brewery in Edinburgh yet. They had a whole host of people brew beer for them, including the great Satan Tennents for several years, yet their story such as it is/was was rarely challenged.

Minutes drive from St Johnstone 😉
The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years

Shopping centre's where all shops should trade the same hours but have different times they close. The Gyle at 6.30pm last night, half were open, half closed. I must have heard about half a dozen shoppers who couldn't find what they wanted say they would try another shop but weren't sure if it would still be open.

Whilst the price of beer is the topic of the day (2 days ago) - places slyly selling beers by the schooner now instead of a pint.
I suspect it will become more prevalent as prices continue to tick up. £5 beers!... 2/3rd of a pint of it.

The German equivalent is probably "Super". We just had a wash-up in relation to a major event we held a few weeks ago in English and one of my German colleagues was super this and super that, I actually started to cringe every time she said it. Note to self: Turn this into a drinking game for the next wash-up.

Drivers parking their car on the pavement in a way that makes it impossible to get a wheelchair or pram through, or indeed parking over the dropped kerb bit.
Usually there's also ample parking a short walk away, not that a lack of which would make it excusable but I'd at least "get it".

Bottle of Buckfast has gone up by a £1 this week and a 900ml bottle of Lucozade up from £1.25 to £2 in my local shop.
£5.50 for a pint of San Miguel now as well in my usual place.
Went for tapas the other night with the Mrs. Shared a jug of sangria and had 4 tapas each. Bill was over £100. Its tapas (insert swear words).

So annoying. My sister in law is a wheelchair user. There are two pedestrianised bits in our street and there are often cars that park right up next to the ends of them. The other week when we were going out with my SIL, both were blocked meaning there was no easy route out of our street.

Whilst we are on deliveries, but not necessarily Amazon... when they get you to sign on the wee handheld computer that you've received a package. It looks nothing like my signature as you have to do it with your finger or one of those crappy wee plastic "pens". Absolutely pointless if it was used to try to prove anything... which I have had experience of as my ex-wife and I were accused of signing for something for a neighbour and stealing it.

There’s going to be a new service 46 that will take you to the royal infirmary and you can change there. The reason for the change is that there has been so much antisocial behaviour on the buses in the Midlothian area that they’ve had to change the routes. The 48 and the new 46 will be single deck buses to try and avoid the kids causing havoc upstairs. The next step will be a withdrawal of services as it’s getting to the point where drivers are leaving rather than drive up to that area. Dalkeith isn’t that bad but Mayfield and Gorebridge have become horrendous at the weekend.

Would it not still have to go under the bridge to get to QMU? Current route goes through Fort Kinnaird continues along Newcraighall Road and onto Newhailes Road before turning off at Clayknowes Crescent to go up to the university.
Or are they completely changing the route and routing the buses up onto the A1?

Yes. The 30 and also the 4 are going to go up the A1 to QMU and come back via the new slip road they’re building up there. That will avoid having to go down to the Oldcraighall roundabout and doubling back like you currently would have to. The 46 and 48 will both continue from the fort and serve the old 30 route down to Musselburgh.

That's a shame. I can understand why, they end up putting on loads of 30s to make up for the fact they're only smaller buses and seem to be quite popular and always busy. They can get a better customer to driver ratio with a bigger bus - and of course by no longer going to as many stops. :greengrin

She’ll be able to change at the Fort and get a 46 or a 48. As I mentioned in an earlier post they’re changing other services to single decks in order to stop antisocial behaviour so they’ll need some of the buses currently being used on the 30 for that. I believe it’s only going to be every second 30 that’s going to be a double deck but they’re all going up the A1 to the QMU.

The great value of our buses means that's only an extra £1 to do as would be on to a day ticket- but it's taking a pram on and off twice as many buses (hoping there's no one else with a pram who has won the race to the space) and the time waiting at the layover added to the journey.
That's not meant as an argumentative comment back to you - I appreciate the info of how it would be done using the buses, thank you.:aok:

The great value of our buses means that's only an extra £1 to do as would be on to a day ticket- but it's taking a pram on and off twice as many buses (hoping there's no one else with a pram who has won the race to the space) and the time waiting at the layover added to the journey.
That's not meant as an argumentative comment back to you - I appreciate the info of how it would be done using the buses, thank you.:aok:
Yeah it’s really frustrating when something like this happens. For some it will work out better, but obviously others like yourself it’s a pain.

People who ask for something but are a bit vague, you go back asking a very clear question that demands them to be more specific and they clearly don't read it. Example from my work today:
Hi x
Can you confirm if it is xx you are looking or an xx style? The former is single use disposable whilst the latter is multiple use.
The reply:
Yes

The way my mother in law eats. She’s the most prim and proper person I know but she eats like a horse. Mouth open, lips smacking together. It’s like nails down a chalkboard.
On a similar vein, she is on holiday with us. When we’re watching a film at night her and my wife talk the whole way through it, inane drivel. It drives me nuts.

Do they then ask 'who's that?' 'what did he say?' and 'why are they there?' at an important point in the film because they haven't been paying attention whilst engaging in these drivel filled conversations?
That's been my film watching experience for the decade or more since I met my wife.

Yep, it drives me nuts. Yet utter silence if they are watching some dire romcom. They watched some formulaic film with Ashton Kutcher & Reese Witherspoon last night while I read a book. A chimp could have followed the plot but you would think they were trying to follow a Christopher Nolan plot.

Lateness. I've said this before but it really gets on my nerves.
I was at Peter Kay at the Hydro last night. Doors opened at 6.30, ticket said show started at 8 prompt. 8.10 and there are still people streaming in. Same people then moaning like **** when the lights eventually went out at 8.15 and they had to try and find their seats in the dark.
Almost every single one of them who couldn't get to their seat on time managed to find the time to buy 6 pints that they were balancing in those cups that the handles all fit inside each other.
If it was up to me there would be a 5 minute grace period then doors would be closed and no one would be getting in. You've had 6 months to plan your journey, if you end up wasting your money then tough. Be more organised and forget the pints.

could not agree more. Had exactly the same experience at Peter Kay a few months ago, and also agree as a general point. Same with the cinema, football, any other sports events.
I’d also extend it to the people who are out to the bar 6,7,8+ times during a concert - just go to the pub and stream the album mate, it’s cheaper drink and you’ll not be missing any of the gig, unlike me who is constantly getting interrupted by your inability to enjoy the gig without having to shift for you every 10 minutes

without giving anything away, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Large majority of it was great, a few bits I was less fussed about but that’s purely a personal experience, and certainly none of it was bad persay. I saw him at the hydro in late January, one of the ‘added later’ dates. My wife and I had both been keen to go, hadn’t seen him live before, but would definitely recommend.

These 'what I eat in a day' videos that seem to be all the rage on social media at the moment. Usually pushed by 'body influencers' with something to sell.
A lot of attention is placed on body image and young females and rightly so. However such videos are clearly targeted at teenage boys and it's basically a bunch of guys juiced up on PEDs telling young lads they can look like them just by eating a lot and drinking protein shakes (link in bio of course).
Not to say that guys using gear don't put the work in but it's deceitful to claim you are natural when it's blindingly obvious you aren't.

Small talk. I appreciate I am as grumpy and antisocial as anyone, but whenever I see my Mum she’s always asking “how is so and so”, “how are x and their family getting on”. Not unreasonable, but I get irrationally annoyed when people ask about others they either don’t know or maybe met in passing once at a wedding 5 years ago. I know it’s just conversation filler but what difference does it make how strangers are doing.

Quite. There seems to be a fad for folk to not have dogs on leads whilst walking along busy roads. Always makes me really nervous when I'm driving past them.
We were at a kids play park thing with some friends and their children yesterday. One of our friends had a set to with a dog owner there who despite signs saying dogs needed to be short leads, didn't have their dogs on a lead and kept running up to one of his young daughters who was scared (not as scared a me, mind as I'm badly cynophobic). When he asked her politely if she could put them on a lead, "nah we don't own any leads" followed by her screaming a lot of abuse at him.

I've mentioned this one before I think. Bars, restaurants, shops that don't adhere to the opening times they advertise online. I appreciate places, particularly small businesses might forget to update times but the place I was last night has no excuse. I went out for a curry to Rustoms with my wife and her dad last night. We went to Platform 5 (part of Greene King) for a drink afterwards. Google had their opening hours as them closing at midnight. We had ordered a drink and a few minutes later we were being told "2 minutes to drink up" at about 10.50. Turns out they close at 11. OK, you might think Google is out of date, except for three things. The staff said they've always closed at 11 during the week, the Google entry said "hours confirmed by management one week ago" and their own website states they shut at 12.

I used to suffer this at my former local bar. If there was no one in, they would close, full stop. Could be 9pm or 10 pm or whenever.
It was left to the bar staff to decide. Needless to say it became a desert after 8pm as word got round. It belongs to a national chain so no one bothered, staff wise.

Somewhat related but it seems fashionable in documentaries these days for there to be a scene featuring someone who is being interviewed taking their seat, chatting to the interviewer and a bit of other general set up stuff, maybe getting their make up touched up then there will be a shot of their face, maybe a cut to something they say later on, a pause then the start of the interview.
It's like a few directors watched someone do it, thought it looked good so now everyone has to do it. I'm sure there is a name for it but it annoys me.

People who just stop half way up some stairs and decide they're going to turn round and go back down. People. Just people in general. Anyone who isn't me that exists around me, annoying me. People who don't know if they want to go into a shop so stand in the doorway to have a look inside, oblivious to anyone wanting to come in or get out. People who just stop half way up some stairs and decide they're going to turn round and go back down. People who think if there's a bus stop on the pavement then that means you can stand anywhere accross that pavement regardless of it being a pavement that people use to get from A to B. People in groups of 3-4 people who walk along in a line, taking up the whole width of the pavement.
Got a train from Currie into Waverley earlier, then walked up to my office up by George Square. Sometimes feel like I'm in my own Truman Show and everyone else around me has been instructed to noise me up.
Are you my secret twin brother?

People who share those toe curling poems about how great it was in 'their day' with no thought to their own hypocrisy.
I remember when we went to the shop
Returned old bottles to buy new pop
We walked on our feet to the school
Getting in the car wasn't cool
Our milk was served in solid glass
We had never heard of a thing called plas..tic
We ate food from the local store
Seasonal produce was no chore
A holiday abroad was an unattainable treat
No Spaniards for us to greet
We never had the heating on
That would have made my dad thrawn
How I wish I could go back in time
I might even learn poetry is about more than rhyme
Just **** off. Kids aren't driving themselves to school. If you are that bothered get out your scratcher and walk your kids or grandkids to school. You can still recycle bottles. Multiple milk companies still deliver milk in glass bottles and pick up the empties. Seasonal eating is still possible, leave the heating off if you are so bothered about it and if you don't like holidays abroad the don't ****ing go on one.
It's just a 'my generation is better than yours' rant whilst ignoring the fact they indulge in multiple of the same behaviours because it's convenient. Oh and it wasn't sunny every day between May and September in the 70s either no matter how much selective memory tells you otherwise.

I was out in Glasgow yesterday, it’s been a while since I was through there day drinking, but the state of the homeless/begging problem in Buchanan Street, and around about it, is pretty shocking. So much worse than I’ve ever seen in Edinburgh.
Loads of people begging in the old fashioned, sitting on the pavement, way but there were loads just wandering about the outside bar bits asking folk for money.
Impossible to know what the stories behind them being in that situation are, but it’s a ***** state of affairs to have that problem to that extent in Scotland.

I’d never seen homeless people outside of Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester etc until a few weeks ago when I went to Asda in one of Glasgows satellite towns and there was a wee guy sat outside with his blanket and his dug. Definitely seems to be on the rise if you’re getting homeless folk begging this far out of the city. There does definitely seem to be more homeless in Glasgow than Edinburgh from my experience as well though.
Slightly related but when I was maybe 19 I bought my mrs a rose from one of those Eastern European women that go around Glasgows nightclubs at closing time, but I didn’t have any change so broke a tenner for it. Soon as she gave me the change all her pals appeared out of nowhere asking for money, must be a coordinated thing.

Why do a lot of them sit next to a cash machine, are they expecting folk to hand over notes of cash, latest one I have seen is the guy sitting outside R/S McColls at Drylaw shops, in one of the poorest areas in Edinburgh I just can’t see him getting many sheckles.

Personally, I find that a bit dodgy.
I've seen a lot of people looking nervous about using the cash machine when there's a 'beggar' sitting right next to it.

The Co-op putting every order for delivery on Deliveroo/Uber Eats as if there is an age restricted product in your order when there isn't. I always forget and the delivery driver asks for ID which is never on me so I have to go hunting round the house for my wallet. When I say to the delivery driver "I've bought some meat, veg and cheese, why do I need ID?", the response is "the shop says there an age restricted item in there".
Before anyone asks, yes I know it is lazy and an expensive way of buying things but I was gripped by the play-off game yesterday and fancied a beer but needed stuff for last night/this morning.
On the topic of ID, surely I look old enough that they could just take my DoB to input into their machine. I know it is challenge 25, but in a few months time on my birthday I will be as close to 60 as I am to 18.

Some of the best programs I’ve ever watched being exclusive to Apple TV. It means that practically no one else has seen them. It’s so frustrating trying to talk to people about a series that you know they will love but there’s next to no chance of them watching it.

Just d***heads in general.
Was at the shops tonight with the bairns. Guy in car in front of me is flying through the car park far too fast for how busy it is. Parks in the last parent and child space with no kids. Both go in to do our shopping and we came out just after him. He gets to his car, loads the boot with shopping then just dumps the trolley in a disabled space behind his car. Sits for a minute or 2 to finish a can of juice that he then launches out the window and off he speeds roaring right across the zebra crossing as he goes. Indicators are of course a no go when he exits the car park.
Seriously how can someone get to 50 or so and still basically be a belligerent teenager mentally? It was like watching a 13 year old showing off how edgy he was to his mates. How can such a **** have gone through life without ever being given a sore face?

By simply not being challenged probably. Like feral animals, it's a learned behaviour. If they act in a way that gets +ve re-enforcement, they do it again. If the behaviour is challenged, even those with the most limited capacity and hard of thinking organisms eventually change their ways.
I wouldn't say I was the most confident in approaching these folk, not because I fear a smack in the coupon but you just know an argument is coming and it's just not healthy for those that suffer anxiety. Sarky passive/aggressive comments however, I can just about manage.
"Mate, you've left your kid in the car! Buddy, you've dropped something" etc...

I truly believe that, I got into a bar in the US when I was 20 with my pals Spanish passport ffs. Their two reactions to seeing any sort of foreign document seems to be to either; **** themselves and just let you in because they’re overly sheltered from the rest of the world so don’t understand the date format, or to just dismiss it as not being proof because they’re too thick and stubborn to understand or learn the date format that 99% of the world uses. The fact my feet have grown three sizes in the past two years in my late 30s. I’ve been an 8 (sometimes a 9) for my entire teenage/adult life. I’m now an 11. It’s not swollenness or anything either. The length has grown. I bought a pair of 9s online last year that were way too small. Exchanged them for a 10. They were fine. Now too small. Toes curled up against them. It’s not even a particular brand (which I thought it was at first). It is across the board.
I didn’t think that happened at my age!

Was thinking the same. I've been buying the same brand of hiking shoes for years and I now have to get a full size larger than I did around ten years ago (was 8.5 now 9.5). I doubt very much my feet have grown.

I hate littering and it must make up a sizeable chunk of my contribution to this thread.
It's just so selfish and there is no mitigation for it at all. It's a wilful choice to make a mess of shared spaces. I don't even buy the 'there aren't enough public bins' line. That may be correct but if you were able to carry a take away, bottle of water or whatever else when it was full then doing the same when it is empty isn't beyond you. Selfish, lazy and if it was up to me repeat offenders who were caught would be made to go out and clear up the mess they helped create as some kind of community payback.

It wasn't until I started cycling during the original lockdown that I noticed how big a problem littering actually is . The amount of stuff dumped is shocking and it's down to pure laziness , have these people no pride in their surroundings? Or are they just ignorant?

What really gets me is that it is always local people who dump their rubbish from their cars as if they assume it is ok to do that. I see it near me , inevitably going out of town.

Growing up in the countryside, I remember only really noting children constantly littering when I moved into a busier town for high school. It was portrayed as cool to just not give a **** and drop your litter while I would always make the ‘effort’ to walk a few yards to the bin. Always liked the idea of tougher enforcement/punishment for littering back then.
Even remember having a kick about and one of the boys finishing his ice pole while playing and dropping the empty plastic on my local pitch. Still annoys me to this day 😂

I remember having a proper argument with a guy on a mountain when I chased after him after he dropped a banana peel and I
asked if he realised he had dropped it. He went on about it being natural roughage and that it was biodegradable.
It might be natural roughage in Tenerife or South America but on a Scottish mountain that is -1 at the summit in June it's probably not. And everything is biodegradable, even plastic, it just takes a long time. A banana peel will survive for well over 2 years, even longer in the cold. I don't know if he was at it or just a bit thick but either way I really don't get why it was so much effort to just do what I ended up doing and sticking it in the side pocket of a bag and putting it in the bin later.

I probably mentioned this the last time littering was discussed on here, but I was honestly quite shocked at how much litter there was on our streets when I moved back to Scotland from Germany .
It must have been after living for six years in a country where this isn't such an issue that made me realise how bad it is here. I presume this is down to cultural differences, as you genuinely rarely see somebody throwing their litter in the streets over there.
It's a real shame, because I'd imagine the vast majority of people do bin their rubbish but all it takes is for a small percentage of yobs to ruin it for everybody else.

QR codes on packaging that interferes with scanning the barcode at a supermarket self scanner. “We do not recognise that item”. So you have to cover the QR code with your finger to make it scan. So annoying.

This is a very specific wife-based moan.
She has a credit card with Tesco which she uses for fuel and food when she shops at Tesco. She accrues points, while spending money that we would have spent anyway, and she pays it off there and then so it never runs in to interest payments. In theory.
However, she always forgets to pay it off because she's running to work or has the kids or whatever, and thats fine, I forget stuff all the time.
But then it accrues more and more, meaning that at the end of the month when I'm looking at the balance thinking "ooh we've got some extra savings this month", it then is required for the credit card.
It does my bloody head in and would prefer not to take the Tesco points and she just shops from our joint account so I can see the ins and outs without £300 suddenly getting wiped out to pay off the credit card.

Yep... and recruitment consultants that message you on LinkedIn saying "I'm working on behalf of a client on this amazing role and looking at your profile, you'd be a perfect fit"... really? It is at least 3 steps up the ladder for me and would be a £30k pay rise.
Another LinkedIn one for me is the people that have a really cringe headline under their name on their profile. Things like "connecting customers to their culinary desires" (you answer the phone at Pizza Hut), "software artisan" (you are a developer), "adding value through enabling people's imagination" (you work on the popcorn stand at a cinema).

Most cc companies I've seen offer you the chance to set up a recurring payment to either pay the minimum or the full balance. Have a look in the online account somewhere.

People who tell you a situation is resolved but then go bitching behind your back about it.
I had a disagreement at work with someone today. It all got a bit heated and silly. There was fault on both sides and I was aware I'd been a bit of an ******** (as had the other person tbf). I hate things like that festering and rather than weeks of silences and stupid potshots I'd rather just get things out in the open. I asked him for a word, apologised, said there were no hard feelings on my part and I hoped the same was true of him, said I'd always considered him a good mate at work and hoped that would continue to be the case and said ultimately the mistakes that had been made hadn't led to disaster. He seemed to take it well, we shook hands and that was that. When I left I said bye to him and got a response. These things happen in workplaces.
About an hour later I received an email. He had sent it to another colleague but copied me in (I'm assuming by mistake) basically calling me a d***head, saying he was totally blameless in the whole situation and also embellishing the story of our chat and telling the recipient he gave me 'what for', told me what he really thought of me and left me standing speechless.
Bizarre behaviour, so childish and I just don't get it. I'm still in 2 minds as to whether to reply to the email or to hold on until tomorrow.

Flies and wasps that get in through tiny openings then can't find their way out through wide open doors and windows but instead keep battering themselves against the closed bits.
I also had a magpie that went into the open greenhouse door then tried to get out through the back wall. I had to catch it and carry it out. It wasn't happy but then neither was I.

Selfish adults. Was at the zoo with my daughter today and we went to see the pandas. I get that they are popular, and the space to view them isn’t the biggest particularly when they sleep on one side of it. However the amount of adults that think nothing of trying to elbow their way to the window, often at the expense of kids, was infuriating. I just stood back and let my daughter see them and try and catch a quick look when a space came up. Fortunately she didn’t mind, but I wasn’t impressed how much folk crowded her, she’s only 4, and was properly boxed in.

This might be controversial on a hibs message board and being a hibs fan but people that try to turn Proclaimers gigs into a Hibs gig. I’m fine with folk turning up in hibs gear and stuff and the odd “Hibees” chant but when it becomes more than that, it kind of spoils the music. There were two guys in front of me in the queue for the toilet between Admiral Fallow and The Proclaimers who were moaning that it wasn’t just wall to wall Hibs chants from the crowd whilst the support acts were on. You’re there for a music concert, not a football game.

I think it's just airports in general.
I'm flying on holiday from Manchester next week. My flight is at 6.45am so I can drop my bags the day before. I already have my airport parking booked for the time I'm away but to park for up to an hour the day before to drop my bag is £12, there is nothing on site cheaper. Absolute daylight robbery.
I remember being fascinated by airports when I was a bairn, now they are just depressing run down shopping centres desperately trying to part you with your cash.

I used to hate flying, can now live with it. I hate how expensive everything is at the airport, and almost always pretty awful quality.
My usual at Edinburgh airport is go in, grab a coffee, sit with it as long as I can, then save paying a lot of money for what will almost certainly be a microwave meal by spending £4.99 on a Boots meal deal.
My pet peeve with flying is the scratchcards they try to sell you on a Ryanair flight. I don't mind them trying to sell overpriced drinks, I don't mind them trying to sell perfumes and aftershaves, but selling a gambling product to a bored and captive audience feels a bit unethical. I genuinely don't mind being treated like cattle if I'm going abroad for £25 return, but that always sticks in my craw a bit.

Made the mistake of flying out of Prestwick to Barcelona once. We were heading to Primavera festival, and my friend hadn't been abroad. Told him that once we were through security, it's good to sit with a pint and people watch. All sorts of interesting people going all sorts of places.
Went through security and there was one other group of people there. Went to the bar, menu was pretty awful. Asked for their chicken burger.
Sat down, waited for fifteen minutes. "Here's your beef burger". Said I'd ordered a chicken burger. They apologised, took it away.
Ten or fifteen minutes later: "Sorry about that, here's your beef burger, sir".
Just ate the ****ing beef burger.

The main act asked people not to talk through the performance as well yet there was a barking dog.
