LG glass fronted fridge, you tap the glass and it lights up so you can see the contents inside your fridge without the need to open the door, I mean ****ing why ? 🫨 fad after fad after fad. Probably as bad as the washing machine with the extra wee door where if you forget to put a sock in you can pop it in the wee door without stopping the cycle !!

I guess the fridge idea is to save the ambient temperature inside the fridge by letting you see where what you want is before opening the door. Makes sense to me.

This could be one of two things.
On the tram into the game, two kids screaming at the top of their voices and the parent not giving a ****. Kid runs onto the pitch today to get selfies with players at a moment that should have been about SDG and SDG alone. Went for our tea at ESF after, young kid starts putting their rubbish onto our table and again, parent completely none the wiser.
Either:
A) Parents are getting worse
or
B) Middle age has fully set in and I’ve entered my grumpy middle aged man phase.
I’ll let you decide, but if the answer isn’t A then kindly keep it to yourself 😂

I think it is A. There’s parents in my street that just watch their kids do stuff that I would have received a mouthful from my parents for at their age. One woman even encourages her kid to play in other people’s gardens including ours. Probably not surprising as the same woman uses our front garden and driveway as a shortcut (we are on a corner) rather than walking on the pavement. Another kid was deliberately kicking a football against our car in front of his dad. They didn’t realise I was actually at my door doing some gardening at the time so when I said something I was expecting the dad to be embarrassed and say sorry - nope silence and a wee laugh from the dad. Same bunch of kids I’ve seen on the ring doorbell using plants in my garden as goalposts, damaging the plants in the process.

Definitely B, when I think back I could name umpteen toerags that I went to school with whose parents were exactly the same. If anything, parenting has probably improved over the decades due to education and more information being available to parents who want to do the right thing. Unfortunately there was always a certain amount of ***** out there and they will always be there.

Product packaging, for items you're likely to store in said packaging between uses, that is just the perfect size for the item making it very difficult to fit back into the packaging between uses.
Sleeping bags are usually a good example, my trio of BBQ tools a more personal bugbear.

When the nutritional breakdown on something isn’t for either the packet size or a realistic portion. I’m calorie counting just now, and if you have something that is going to serve two people at most, then it should be for either the whole product or half of it.
Not a fifth, not for 100g if it’s a 40g product, just simple to understand at a glance.

The 100g thing is a legal requirement I think. It is so you can compare things of different weights.

My wife's obsession with a lack of light. She refuses to use the big light in any room and instead fills them with plug-in lamps. The only exception is the bathroom as obviously you can't plug anything in there, though I wouldn't put it past her getting battery operated push lights in there (hope she doesn't read this and get any ideas). She moans when I put the big light on - usually because the pitiful amount of light emitted from the lamps make it hard to see what you are doing. I have no idea how she sees what clothes are in her drawers on a dark morning as I can't see what's in mine without the big light being on.
The worst is when we are eating. Quite often the lamps are dimmed so it is even worse. I'd quite like to see what's on my plate.
She doesn't get migraines either so it isn't because of that. As someone who gets migraines, I know certain types of light can trigger one, but it isn't the case here.

Folk who are mean-spirited.
I was made redundant recently and decided to use the situation to make a change and start my own business.
The vast, vast majority of my friends and acquaintances have been really supportive and wanting it to do well, but i found out the other day that a few ex-colleagues had been eagerly hoping the business falls flat on its face.
Why would someone be like that? I don’t get it.
See it from time to time with the podcast as well, people that I’ve known for years and would be nice as you like to my face but sneer at the podcast or if we try to do something a bit different with it.
I’ve always been of the view that the podcast isn’t for everyone, there’s going to be folk that don’t like it and that’s absolutely cool with me - I’d be worried if everyone liked it, to be honest. But actively hoping it fails or being annoyed that it looks like I’m doing alright… i just don’t get it.
Can only think these folk have nothing better to focus on, but I’d rather folk were happy to say it’s not for them and leave it at that, no need to wish things fail, imho.

Unless I’m actively doing something that needs full lighting I much prefer soft lighting even when eating etc.

It seems to be human nature in a lot of people. They want to see others fail as it makes them feel better about themselves, rather than them actually doing anything themselves to improve their life.

When folk talk about “lego’s”. I understand why they do and it would make perfect sense for that to be the plural term. It just sounds weird and Lego is the universal term for describing any form of Lego. e.g. “a 3D portrait made from Lego’s”.

Apparently they can only show the time according to the timetable, they don't actually track anything live. In other words, the Council have wasted money on something that is a massive downgrade from what was there before.
I've noticed the tram trackers on the new bit of the line usually spout guff as well. There's been a few times it has indicated there is a tram for ages, so I've started walking for a bus instead, only for a tram to pass me a couple of minutes later. Never seems to happen on the older section.

If correct, is it permanent or temporary?
I'd heard from a Trams contactor that the live tracker can't be used by two different systems so until all the old displays are replaced, the new installs only show timetabled information???
Personally, I always track on my phone, I find https://bustimes.org/operators/lothian-buses to be a bit more accurate than the Lothian Buses app, even though both use the same open source data.

It must have been mentioned before but the term 'woke' and particularly the misuse of it.
Seen a football club post on Twitter today about their game tomorrow, guys asks if there is any chance the game could be off, someone else replies saying 'don't be so woke, it's only rain'. WTF? What has asking about a game being in doubt because of rain got to do with being 'woke'? It doesn't make any sense.
Another guy ranting away in a local paper because he got banned from a pub by 'woke staff'. He went in, ordered using an app, waited 20 minutes then went to the bar to complain. By his own admission he told the staff his dad used to run a pub and he could do their job standing on his head and they were useless. That's not 'woke'; that's you abusing someone in their place of work and paying the price. Stop being so 'woke' and accept the decision......
(On a related note what kind of logic is that? My dad was a brain surgeon so that must mean I can do it as well).

Tap the ‘tall’ end of the egg on the counter top until you hear a pop…sounds like the egg has cracked but is the membrane releasing from the outer shell.
Makes cracking them a touch smoother and reduces the chance of you having to brutalise the thing to get it to separate.
Also works a treat if you are hard boiling eggs to then separate the shell…makes that job a lot easier!

Does my head in as well. Waste of beer, for a start.
This fad for cyclists to complain about motorists on Twitter, particularly videos were, for instance, a cyclist seems entirely unable to navigate past something blocking the cycle lane.
I get that nothing should be in there, but every other roadway (I’m not sure what word I’m looking for here) like bus lanes, roads, pavements etc will have something blocking them from time to time.
They shouldn’t be, but they are. Such is life. Everyone bar these Twitter cyclists seems to be able to engage their brain and just go round the obstacle with zero fuss.
Watched one video today where a van illegally cut across a cyclist to turn left. The cyclist, though, observed the van moving and then proceeded to carry on cycling anyway to instigate a crash, then complained of a hit and run.
Why would you do that? Just pull your brakes, ffs, have a wee moan to yourself about the knob in the van, and get on with your day. Imagine instigating a crash just to prove a point!?
They need to grow up.

Also, folk cheering on a bus driver driving his bus at Just Stop Oil protestors.
First of all, ‘mon the environmentalists. It’s a critical cause and fair play to them for doing something about it. They shouldn’t be the enemy, the oil companies etc are the bad guys but somehow the protestors are painted as the baddies.
Second, a driver choosing to drive at and potentially over human beings, regardless of their actions, is despicable. The risk of killing someone is very high and you would have to think that “i don’t agree with protestors” would be sufficient mitigation in court if the driver found themselves on a murder or manslaughter charge if they did kill someone.

There's a few cyclists in Edinburgh who complain about motorists on Twitter weekly.

People who don't do basic things that are polite, make people's jobs a bit easier and help avoid impacting other people negatively.
For example people who are out for a pint and don't take the empty glass back to the bar when ordering the next one or don't just lift their glass and place it on the bar when leaving. Or people who don't return their trolley to a bay at the supermarket and just dump it next to their parking space. Or people who don't take their tray to the bin in somewhere like McDonalds and leave a mess all over the table. Worse still are the people who don't even attempt to leave their tables in some kind of order in pubs, fast food restaurants, on trains etc. Not returning or disposing of the stuff is one thing but leaving spillage, empty packets and half eaten food scattered everywhere is on a whole other level.
The things with all of the above and other similar scenarios is that there is no punishment for not doing any of it, it really is just a personal choice to be nice or not.

Is that not because while their cause is a just one, their means of protest is polarising, futile and utterly ineffective. I’m not sure they have achieved anything positive by targeting the people they are trying to get on side, instead they have angered the public.
One of the main funders of Just Stop Oil, Dale Vince, is of a similar opinion and pulled his funding. “I believe that further protests and the disruption that comes with them are pointless. I would go further and say they would be counterproductive”.
Protests are fine, but why they targeted the general public they are trying to get on side, and not the oil companies, petrol stations, government etc, I simply don’t understand.

Like a train strike? No, I see the logic and relevance of train workers (in this example) striking, I.e refusing to do their job, because they are unhappy with elements of their job, dispite the inconvenience and annoyance it causes. I’d not understand train workers protesting and blocking a bus station for example.

Holy Ground territory so I'll leave it here, but my point is that a lot of how you describe climate protesters also directly applies to industrial action – polarising, angers (some) of the public, doesn't just target their opponents.

Do you mean specifically at night, or at anytime?
When I cycle to work, during the day, I'm tip to toe in black. If nightshift, I'll have a reflective t-shirt on or high Viz waterproof if raining.
I have reflectors on my pedals, reflective pannier, use DRL's and have bright pulsing (not flashing) lights for hours of darkness.
I've never felt I was being irresponsible or felt at risk due to what I wear. The biggest risk I encounter is from the minority of other road users who are plain and simply terrible drivers and IMO I could be lit up like Blackpool Illuminations and it wouldn't make a difference.

This fad for cyclists to complain about motorists on Twitter, particularly videos were, for instance, a cyclist seems entirely unable to navigate past something blocking the cycle lane.
It's hardly a fad, I think the second video I watched on YouTube all those years ago (after a funny cat video) was a cyclist getting SMIDSY'd at a junction.
I get that nothing should be in there, but every other roadway (I’m not sure what word I’m looking for here) like bus lanes, roads, pavements etc will have something blocking them from time to time.
They shouldn’t be, but they are. Such is life.
But those cycle lanes are designed as a safety initiative, to separate vulnerable road users. Blocking it illegally is wrong but then forcing the vulnerable user in to the area we're trying to protect them from is not something we should just shrug our shoulders at and tell them to suck it up. I'm not after more enforcement, just more awareness at how irresponsible road use can put others are risk.

You might be being a bit jaundiced there Matty, I've seen many an altercation, usually over "priority" where if the motorists involved used their brain it would have been a non event.

Funnily enough, I seen that video just this morning. And I agree, the cyclist could easily have avoided that altercation. You say the van carried out an illegal turn, he may have but the infrastructure didn't help as it might have given the cyclist false confidence that he was in a segregated lane. All I know is I'd have taken measures to ensure I didn't find myself under the van.
They need to grow up.
Unless it's because these posts are specifically about cyclists then I'm not sure I'm keen on the "they" part, on its own it's fairly divisive.
I walk, jog, cycle a bike, ride a motorbike, drive a van and a car, much like many road users, very few of us fall under one category.
These posts about road user groups can be funny (but not actually funny). 6 people a day die on UK roads, many, I hope, will be accidental in nature but a lot of them will come down to incompetence or willful bad driving/biking/cycling. This really needs to be called out. Being tribal against cyclists, white van men or Sunday drivers isn't helpful. Hunners of clips on Social Media showing road conflicts isn't helpful either, it's just crash porn (and the reason why I'll never use a dash cam or GoPro).
Let's just all agree that accidents can and will happen but getting frustrated or angry with other road users isn't going to make for an enjoyable driving experience.

:agree: I started cycling into work a few weeks back. In town it's not so much a problem because of street lighting, but from my village I have to cycle through a few small villages before entering the city limits where there are none.
Now with it being dark in the mornings and early evenings, I'm amazed at the amount of parents who let their kids cycle to school without lights and dressed like ninjas. I hear some of these kids long before I catch them in my headlight, not a luxury that car drivers will have.
I've got to ask myself what is going through these parents heads letting their kids cycle to school like that?

I think almost all of this is resolved by everyone (and I mean all road users) having a little bit of courtesy for others, and recognising that we’re all sharing the road, and with some common sense, courtesy and calmness, we’d all arrive at our destinations in a timely and more importantly, safe manner.
Sadly there’s far too many who treat the roads as their personal domain and act aggressively and selfishly towards others.

I agree.
I travel primarily as a pedestrian and generally find with a bit common sense Edinburgh is a fairly safe and easy city to navigate, it could be better and there are a few areas that are poorly designed but overall it's OK. Yes you get a minority of cyclists who pass too close and too fast on shared paths, yes you get a delivery van bumped up on the kerb from time to time, yes you get the odd car that doesn't seem to understand how zebra crossings work and I'm sure pedestrians do things that annoy all of the above as well.
However if you are aware of what's going on and manage your own actions then most things can be overcome, I've had one semi serious incident when a group of cyclists forced me to jump into a verge on the Union Canal path and I cut my leg quite badly but aside from that in over a decade of walk commuting I've not had any real issues and find most people courteous and respectful. It's worth remembering that this isn't one group v another. Most drivers will also be pedestrians at some point, most cyclists will also be drivers and so on.
I do find people who just continue with their intended course of action despite potential dangers a bit odd though. As stupidly extreme example if you went to a swimming pool and there was a shark in the pool you wouldn't say 'well the shark shouldn't be there so I'm just going to dive in regardless'. You would assess the situation and alter your actions accordingly. There was one video on Twitter recently with a guy who sat behind an Amazon van on Leith Walk for 20 minutes because it was bumped into the cycle lane. Shouldn't be there, driver is in the wrong but why would you do that? Just get off the bike and pass on the pavement or wait until it's safe and go round on the road. You shouldn't have to and by all means highlight the issue but that's just laughably stupid. The guy in question actually raises a lot of good points about the design flaws on Leith Walk but stuff like that just kills any support he is going to muster.

Politicians who talk about the optics of this or that situation. Whenever it happens I have an image of them sitting at a taxpayer-subsidised bar gazing blearily at an upside down 40oz bottle of whisky. Downing nips. And when I think of that I then think of Chris Pincher. And from there things spiral out of control and I begin to lose all confidence in the Westminster system of government.

Apologies for the short reply to a considered post. I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick here, my peeve isn’t aimed at cyclists, van drivers or any other demographic other than those cyclists mentioned who specifically do stuff to share on Twitter (i.e. cycle into a van or, as per Pretty Boy’s example, sit behind an Amazon van for twenty minutes).
No jaundice, no issue with cyclists/joggers/walkers/whatever at all, and i would say that I’m someone who’s particularly considerate to other road users - that wasn’t the intention behind the peeve whatsoever.

Today's Pet Peeve: Inland Revenue / poorly designed websites / inadequately staffed Government services.
HMRC have unilaterally changed my tax code, charging me for BIKs from a company I left more than two years ago. Although there's an option on the HMRC Tax Account page to amend these items, when you click on it you get a message saying you can't change them. So why have the button there in the first place?
"Contact us to make the change". Either by PAYE_Chat, or by phone. The web chat is staffed by a bot who eventually agrees they can't make the change either.
So I call the "helpline". I listen to loads of messages telling me I can make changes to my account online; I can't. Eventually I get asked to go through ID checks which I do, and to be fair, these worked. No sooner have I passed the last ID check than I get told, "we're busy call back another time" and they hang up on me.
So I contact the @HMRCCustomer account on Twitter. Just for a moan really, as I know they can't deal with personal queries. I've had no response yet, so I looked at previous posts on the account. Many others complaining about not being able to get through on the phone. HMRC Customer Support has now replied suggesting I write a letter to the Revenue. I haven't written a business letter to anyone for at least 10 years. Does the Revenue think this is 1923?

I know. It's the principle that bugs me. A self employed friend was hassled into having to submit her accounts online as part of the HMRC "making tax digital" initiative. An initiative I support, but she struggled to get it done. Writing a letter just seems like an admission of defeat. I know it's a tired concept, but this really is an example of #BrokenBritain.
Edit: plus the whole thing is their fault. Why they should suddenly think I have a company car when I haven't been employed for more than two years is beyond my comprehension. Even allowing for some mistake on their part, their tax software should not allow benefits in kind on the tax account of someone who's not employed!

Said kids absolutely crapped it the other night when I happened to turn the light on and appear at the window at the precise time they were beginning to use my plants as goalposts for the evening. :greengrin

AdGuard DNS — ad-blocking DNS server (adguard-dns.io) (https://adguard-dns.io/en/welcome.html)
DNS-based blocking only works if the ads come from a different domain to the website itself. This is pretty common, as most sites don't host their own ads but get them from some ad network, so blocking the ad network domain prevents them from loading. YouTube is one example where the ads do come from the same domain, so if you blocked the source of the ads then you'd also block the video itself.
If you're using a desktop browser, an ad blocker extension (like uBlock Origin) will block almost everything, including YouTube ads (although YouTube is trying to prevent that: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/youtube-testing-three-strikes-rule-to-block-users-with-ad-blockers).
I use both. Browser ad blocker means I pretty much never see an ad when in a desktop browser, and DNS blocking covers a lot of cases where you can't install an ad blocker – apps on your phone etc.

People who laugh and dance about on picket lines. When did this start? I remember it being a mix of anger and pride back in the day when I was on strike. I know there's always been chants but if someone had started laughing like a hyena and dancing about they'd have got lynched.

Excellent info 👍🏻.

Not really a peeve as such as I'm sure there is a reason for it but the price of fish and chips in Scotland compared to England.
I was down south a couple of weeks ago. Had fish and chips with bread and butter and a cup of tea for £8.20. There was a sign on the wall stating the variety of potatoes and where they had been grown and also what fish was available and when and where it had been caught. If they were telling the truth then it was very fresh. Portion was huge and it was more than decent.
Last night I stopped for a fish supper on the way home at my local chippy. £11.50 for a pretty measly bit of fish and a portion of chips that were well past their best. No bread and butter or tea obviously.
I know times are tough for restaurants and take aways but there's a tipping point and I'm close to it now.

Totally agree - took the bairn out to see some fireworks as she was desperate to see some, watched a bunch of adolescent idiots firing rockets tv straight out of their hands (couldn’t tell if they had something to protect their hands as it was pitch black and about 70-80 yards away). Some of them were flying all over the place, and could easily have maimed them or someone else

I feel bad for takeaway owners just now, the cost of everything is much higher, and equally that’s the same for the customers, who have seen such a large increase for the cost of a meal, plus their own cost of living challenges, will see a fair amount of these businesses closing for good sadly. We’ve certainly noticed the costs of these going up, a Chinese that not long ago would have cost around £8-9, is now costing £14.50+.

I don't think this is really a Scotland vs England thing, I think there's just a lot of regional variation. Where I live (south-east England, miles from the sea) the basic choice for a fish supper is moderately priced and crap or expensive and mediocre. Other places I've been in England (e.g. Hull, where tbf you'd expect them to be better at fish) are more like you describe, not too expensive and brilliant. There must still be places in Scotland where you can get good fish and chips for a reasonable price.

'It's cause they are just working class lads from a scheme' seems to be the excuse of choice on social media today. Piss poor attitude imo, painting people from schemes as numbskulls who don't know any better.
I was brought up in a scheme, I bring my own bairns up about 5 minutes walk from where all that pish was going on last night and I know better than to fire fireworks at cars or peoples houses or to throw bricks at fire engines and I'll make ****ing sure my bairns do as well.
I see how crap things are in Niddrie, I see how much strain council cuts have put on people in the area and I see real poverty as well. I also see the low level intimidation some residents suffer at the hands of the police. It's an area that has suffered more than most from successive policy failures but you can't just say that excuses nonsense like last night. It was organised by adults and the vast majority of residents are better and smarter than that and shouldn't be tarred with the same brush.

This phenomenon (attacking the emergency services) is quite easily the most idiotic thing in present day UK.
My first job after Uni was in Kirkcaldy, about 20 odd years ago. I remember being told that at that time there were 3 streets in Kirkcaldy where the emergency services weren’t able to attend without a police escort.
So not exactly a modern phenomenon but an absolutely idiotic one nonetheless.

The fact it took so long to correct it makes me think it needed a head office decision, rather than local.

On the theme of buses who thought it was a good idea to have the open end of the bus shelters on Princes Street facing away from the road?
No idea how long they have been like that as this weekend is the first time I have been there since pre COVID but it doesn't make sense. With the big advertising displays on the side and the open end facing inwards you can't see approaching traffic, including buses.

How could it be an "error" or an individuals mistake when it goes through sub-editors, editors and the main editor of the newspaper?
A ten year old stock photo which has to be paid for suddenly ends up there by mistake? No chance.

I'm not defending the choice of photo, which was indefensible, but I think you're over-estimating the staffing depth of the Scotsman / EN operation. It's threadbare, having been cutting journalists and editorial staff for years. And it shows.

Here's the front page of today's Evening News. Looks awful doesn't it? It is awful, but it's not Edinburgh. This photo is from riots in Kyiv in 2014. The Evening News should be fined for this front page.

The second I saw that this morning I had a feeling it wasn’t Niddrie in the picture. Look at how the guy is dressed, look at the road markings, look at how light it is in the background ffs! How did they think they’d get away with this? Unbelievable.
Edit: was yesterday morning, I haven’t slept

The Evening News had already thrown in the towel as a proper newspaper. When they announced their revamp a few months ago the editor wrote that they could no longer keep up with online media and 24 news and that The Edinburgh Evening News would henceforth publish mainly reaction and background to local and national events. Since then the paper has become like a magazine with dozens more pictures, particularly library pix of days gone by. This latest front page farrago is a disgrace.
It's outrageous that a city with the prestige, culture and history of Edinburgh has no proper local paper.

I don't know if they do a print version but when it comes to the online platform the Edinburgh Reporter is far superior to the EEN. They actually do some proper journalism for starters.

No, the mistake was thinking a) that it was ok to print a picture of a random petrol bomb thrower they got online and b) even if they felt that was justified, not making clear that it wasn't Niddrie.

Perthshire Advertiser owned by Reach plc who announced a further round of mass redundancies only yesterday, with 450 more jobs to go, "significant change" and the closure of some news websites.
Dundee Courier owned by DC Thomson who reduced their workforce by a fifth (300 jobs gone) earlier this year.

As far as I can tell my bus app still seems to be generally okay with the arrival times despite this recent shake up.
Didn't help last night when the 30 was too full to let anyone on though (not a peeve really, not much they could do about it).

I play a few simple games on my iPad, solitaire, sudoku etc. These are always being interrupted by adverts popping up while you are playing, don’t mind too much when they are short but there are some that no matter how many times you hit the X to skip or close the ad it continues to play. Usually accompanied by annoying jingles.

The app wasn't great on Saturday. I was late to the match as the trams were cancelled due to the Palestine protest. The app was still showing trams running. When trying to get the bus, the app was generally reflecting what the trackers at the stops were saying - both of which were a load of nonsense. It would say a bus was due, would count down to 2 mins, then suddenly disappear... no sign of a bus. Eventually a bus came despite the app showing it wasn't due for another 10 mins!

Kids tv shows. My daughter is about to turn 5 and watches a fair amount of garbage. That’s fine, but there’s a whole lot of shows that teach the worst kind of behaviour. The likes of Barbie is guff but fine, then there’s loads out there like LOL dolls where it’s a kids show but they are horrible and b****y to each other. My daughters attitude and behaviour visibly deteriorates after watching those kind of shows.
It’s difficult to always police as they are deemed appropriate on a kids profile. Why are shows that teach bad lessons and affect behaviours allowed? Or am I just old and grumpy now?
On the plus side, been enjoying watching some retro cartoons with her from my childhood. Danger Mouse, He-Man, Ghostbusters etc.

YODEL! Ordered a Christmas present for a grandson from VERY, good price and no complaints about them.
Message from YODEL on Monday at 1am saying they have it. Checked the link yesterday and showing not yet out for delivery.
Found it at the front door at 8am this morning, message sent to me at 6:30am saying it had been delivered. They did not follow my instructions on where to leave it, so in full view of the street.
I accepted their offer to do the survey on the delivery, including agreement to publish my reply. I'm sure they will.

I had a dream about some neighbours last night... no, not like that. They were being absolute a-holes in it. Now that I've woken up, I dislike these neighbours even though I have absolutely no reason to. They weren't even the neighbours who are actually a-holes who walk through our garden as a shortcut and let their kids play football in our garden / against our car or the woman behind us who has a really annoying voice. So now I dislike or am annoyed by most of the neighbours, most of which I have no real reason to as it was a dream!

Yodel are particularly guilty of leaving parcels at the front door even after acknowledging your request for a safe place. A lot of their drivers are lazy barstewards. I once had a case of wine delivered on a Friday, while I was away for the weekend. It was on the doorstep when I got back at Monday lunchtime. The box was soggy with rain but fortunately the wine was unscathed.

I don't think it's the individual drivers.
Every delivery company, with the possible exception of royal mail, is the same. They clearly overload the drivers with work and make it impossible for them to competently deliver the items due to the huge number of drops they expect them to do.
I wouldn't be too harsh on the individual drivers just trying to make a living but more so the penny penching and greedy businesses behind them.

I really can't be bothered with stuff like that. If there is an issue then I'd rather just thrash it out and move on as opposed to these people who go in a huff, make snide remarks or talk behind peoples backs. I've always tried to be big enough to both apologise and to accept an apology.
I had a run in with a guy at work a couple of years ago. It was at the tail end of covid lockdowns when tensions were running high in our industry with redundancies all over the place and a near collapse of the supply chain. There was fault on both sides and it was festering so I asked him for a word, apologised for what happened and the fault on my part in it. He was pretty ungracious about it. I got married a few months later and invited everyone in work along to the evening reception as we are a small workplace, he was invited. Of all the people in the building he was the only one not to come and he didn't even acknowledge the invite or send a rejection. 2 and a half years later and he still won't say a word to me and skulks about avoiding me. I can barely even remember the details of what the argument was about.
I just don't get how people have the energy to hold these types of grudges or to get so worked up by another person. I just can't be bothered with it. I say morning when I see him, if I have to go to his department and he's the only one there I relay information to him and so on. I actually think that is what annoys him now, he wants another bust up and if I keep being nice to him then he won't get it but he's too proud to back down and lose face (lose face in his own head that is, I don't give a ****).

Fair point but Yodel must get loads of complaints and bad reviews and should factor in possible public responses into their schedules. It’s counter productive to turn a blind eye to/encourage poor service. On another two occasions I heard the doorbell and as I opened the door, the Yodel driver was revving up and driving away. Even under pressure I would expect a driver to at least wait for a response before randomly dumping it on the doorstep. When I have to complain about this increasing poor behaviour, I’ve stopped contacting/reviewing the delivery company but contact the seller. If enough people did this, they might be more selective in their choice of delivery companies.

And parents who cannot take children to a restaurant without immediately allowing them to pull out their phone or ipad and watch whatever. Ipads on the table at a restaurant. And worst of all when the kids don't have earphones and the parents just allow it to blare away (this also happens on flights, trains, buses, at airports etc).

I do understand what you are saying. Ringing the doorbell at 6:30am is not on, of course, but it would take less than 30 seconds to leave it where I asked. If he left my house and just missed the lights at the foot of Easter Road he would sit for a couple of minutes with nothing happening (another Peeve!).

I’m sure it isn’t the case here, he just sounds ignorant but remember no one knows what’s going on in other peoples heads. I’ve had severe social anxiety which has made shy away from all interactions with people. I did that because I’d torture myself looking for the faults in what I said with every interaction I’d have so if some spoke to me I’d often put my eyes down and ignore them.
I saw a short vid on twitter the other day of a guy with severe social anxiety going thru a MacDonalds drive through, he’d prepared by writing a script for the interaction which he stuck to his sun visor and rear view mirror. He managed to get through ordering his meal, breathed a big sigh of relief and gave a wee fist pump. It was a beautiful video and shows what most people find easy others can face with fear and anxiety.

Not sure if "social anxiety" or not but my neighbour looks like she thinks I'm going to attack her anytime I say hello to her. She definitely looks away to avoid eye contact if she is in her car or coming out the house. Her hubby/partner seems fine so maybe is just a bit anxious in social situations.

If be inclined to go with Matty's thoughts on this. If you've lived across from someone for years and have let onto them on multiple occasions I'd tend to think you'd recognise them in the street.
Depends, sometimes when I'm out walking I'm in a world of my own, if I don't expect to see someone in a certain place then I'm oblivious, I've walked past my best pals and even my dad before in the street before I got shouted at

My current pet peeve are the new (wooden) seats (https://greenfc.com/app/uploads/2022/01/edinburgh-airport2-low-1536x1024.jpg) in the departure area of Edinburgh Airport. How anybody could design seats that are so uncomfortable is beyond my comprehension
Going to Airports has gradually become less and less enjoyable over the years and they were obviously struggling to find new ways to make it worse, but believe me, they've succeeded.
Thats exactly it, his Wife has lived next to us for years and before that shared the house with her parents. She is nice and we have always got on, we have never had issues, I dont play loud music or tv, my gardens are neat and tidy and we dont have noisy kids running about
About 3 years ago she met her new Man, he grafts and does various shifts and to be honest appeared to be a respectable guy and Im the kind who gets on with folk. I was cutting my back lawn and he was pottering about his garden and I said good afternoon or similar and he just looked at me as if I called him a **** (which he is) and he just turned and walked away
Over the last 3 years he has continued to blank me and just recently as I was getting into the car he came out his front door, looked over at me and as you do I gave him the nod but again he just blanked me 🤣
To sum him up, a fat ignorant **** 🤬

Yodel had a parcel for me, drove past the bottom of my street ( 35 yards away) and have now lost it. Useless.

There's a guy who lives directly opposite us, he's lived there for years and years - he'll let on to me in the specific context of us both being in close proximity to the house but if I see him in Tesco, or further than a 1/4 mile radius from the house, he'll totally blank me even though I always wave or say hello.
Search YouTube for Micky Flannigan talking about his neighbours, very funny.

Maybe he doesn’t recognise you out of the context of the normal surroundings he sees you in. I’ve seen that happen before, even done it myself.
I'm the worst for that, but I'm talking like 100 yards further along the road, not bumping into him at the cinema or that.

Absolutely nothing mate, his Wife who is lovely lived with her parents next door and they were lovely too before they passed away. She worked in the big insurance building at the commie pool and most mornings we would leave for work at the same time and greeting each other as you do
She took parcels in for us as we done and still do for them, we exchanged Christmas cards etc, she borrowed tools from me and even chapped my door late at night to ask medical advice as my Wife was a Surgical Nurse, she loved my kids and still talks to my dog over the back fence and actually we still chat over the fence about holidays etc
Then he came on the scene just appearing one day and I actually thought he was maintenance or something, he could have been actually. Things moved on and his stuff was moved into the house, further down the line they got married
I have tried my best to be neighbourly to him but he barely makes eye contact, if we have parcels delivered for them he never comes to my door for them and leaves that too his Wife
I was tidying up the garden last week readying for winter and he came down the path, I genuinely thought this could be the breakthrough and gave him the nod, he didnt even make eye contact and just walked up the street. I know he is quite social as in the summer he has family and friends/work colleagues around and they have beers and barbecue etc
Ironically he has leaned on my fence to have a conversation with my neighbour to the right of me and although I get on well with him he is a ****. So Ive tried, Ive done absolutely nothing to provoke this ignorance and I just see it as ****ing childish behaviour towards a neighbour
Yeah, he is a ****

A bit different to yours but..
When I was at uni (a lot of years ago now) I was in a project group for one of my courses with two girls, one from Dubai and one was French Canadian. It was around managing change in business, so not the most exciting but we had to deliver a presentation as part of our grade so had to put some work in and meet-up a few times.
This resulted in us spending a bit of time together, the three of us got on quite well, kept in touch, sitting next to each other at lectures and messaging about exam study etc. I don’t believe we ever spent any time socially, all uni-related but we did all become friends on social media.
Around final exam time I, quite helpfully, printed off some notes that were going to help us and dropped them off to the Dubai girl outside her flat on my way home. She was grateful, we chatted for a few mins, I went on my way and we did our exams. I assume we would have spoken at the exam/exchanged a couple of messages afterwards to see how we got on etc, just can’t remember..
Anyway the point is, one day I noticed she was completely blanking me. Can’t remember if it was failing to respond to texts at first but then I was deleted/blocked from social media etc. just completely vanished as far as I’m concerned and to this day I wonder what it is that I done…
To be clear there wasn’t anything between us whatsoever (I actually fancied the Canadian) and to my knowledge not ever a hint of disagreement/friction. It wasn’t like we spoke enough for her to get sick of me and feel the need to ‘ghost’ even if she did think I was a knob. All nice and healthy and then nothing. My only offers of an explanation is that she’s bumped into me drunk and I haven’t remembered it.. this is possible, but I can’t see how I would have offended her other than just being wasted. Or if I’ve shared something on social media… again I can’t think I would’ve shared anything offensive unless she really hates swearing. Or some sort of mistaken identity 😂
My mate, who I told a few years later, suggested a controlling boyfriend could be responsible but it all seems very strange to me. It’s not like I lost a really close friend but it was all just very bizarre and like nothing else I’ve experienced.

My Wife is an Educator and a lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the community and runs various teams as well as educational seminars and training sessions and is highly respected in her field to the point her phones never stop as hospitals/GP surgeries etc seek advice
She had literally hundreds of books and written medical journals that probably cost in the thousands to buy (some books £50 to £70 a pop) they took up our bedroom cupboard floor to ceiling so decided to offer them to upcoming trainee Nurses or Practitioners for free, she didnt want a penny for them as she is so passionate about supporting others
Within an hour of advertising them on an NHS page that she uses she was inundated with requests for the books and journals so she sorted them into categories such as Neuro, Geriatric, COPD and associated resp issues and much much more. She then in her own time dropped the books and journals off to the recipients
A few days later one of the recipients complained on the NHS page that some of the contents/text in a book were underlined or circled and some pages had top corners turned down with a further complaint about a couple of books had front pages slightly scuffed. These are used books that were taken to uni etc so they were bound to have a bit wear and tear, what an absolute selfish disrespectful cow !!
One other recipient of some books placed them up for sale, ****ing unbelievable !!
The good side
A couple of years ago we were downsizing our dining table as it was too large for the dining room, it was near to Christmas and I knew money can be tight for people so although our table was only 6 months old and had cost a few hundred I wanted to give it away to a good home for free
Within a short time of advertising it I received a message from a Woman in the borders enquiring about the table, she went to length to explain that her Daughter had just moved into a new house with her kids after the break up of her marriage and she would be very grateful for the table, even offering money which I declined
I agreed due to being at work that I would dismantle the table and leave at secure side garden and would leave gate unlocked so she could collect it. Later that day she messaged me to thank me and that she had collected the table and as she runs a small shop had left us a few gifts as a thanks
She left two bottles of wine, a thank you card and two bags filled with various goodies, now thats the good side of people I love, its not difficult to be kind
Oh and my Wife enjoyed the wine 🫢

That seems the most likely explanation to me.
When I was younger I always seemed to click more with women than men and had a fairly sizeable social group that was primarily women, my 2 best friends in my teens were both girls; that led to my sister being convinced I was gay and all my mates assuming I must have been s******* them (neither were accurate :greengrin). Bizarrely on the latter the more you deny it, the less they believe you, had I just said it was the case they would have instantly disbelieved it.
Anyway over the years a few very quickly became distant, stopped replying to messages, made excuses not to meet up or just started outright ignoring me. It could almost always be traced back to a jealous and insecure boyfriend and when the relationship inevitably ended they would snap back to normality almost immediately. Seems less of an issue now we are all older and I'm friends with most of their partners and husbands now too.

Much better to get a happy ending.Funny thing is I actually trusted that woman, not being ageist but I think it was that she was quite old that had me thinking that surely an old Woman wouldn't con me unless she was using a dodgy profile, she actually sent me a photo of the table in its new home so that gave me a fuzzy feeling 😃
On another note my wee Sister and hubby advertised their very large garden shed for free as they were downsizing but on the premise the “buyer” dismantles it as her hubby has injuries and unable
So these three guys turn up, shed was in perfect nick but they butchered part of it when dismantling and told them theres no point in taking it now. My Sisters hubby is a ****ing nutter and a few hours after the guys left he had a squad arrive from Niddrie in their vans who duly picked up the shed and dumped it in the “buyers” front garden in Musselburgh, which is still there from around a year ago 😃
Anyone want a garden shed for free ? 🤣

Yeah it does make sense. I think I just couldn’t see it in my case because we weren’t really that close - for instance I would never have mentioned the girl to any mates or anything, unless there was a reason to and assume the same for her. But I guess if her boyfriend was radge and constantly checking who she’s speaking to, or scanning her messages, then it could be a different story!
I hope she’s doing well now whatever she’s up to 😁

:agree:
I've met loads of people over the years who I haven't always liked as posters and they almost always turn out to be really decent people. The people who I do like as posters have always been pretty sound too. There is one notable example who get's a really rough time on here (often deserved based on their posts) who is such a nice guy when you meet him.
I'll argue away with the best of them and when people are passionate about things, football or otherwise on here, it's understandable that things might get heated or you'll get rubbed up the wrong way from time to time. Is it worth actively disliking someone based on almost nothing though? Being irrationally irritated to the point you started personally abusing people based on a football forum very much falls into the 'life's too short' category for me these days.
I think it is part of a far bigger problem really. With so much information and opinion readily available now there are people who just don't want to read anything that they disagree with, you can surround yourself with opinion that totally reinforces your own world view if you choose to do so. I'd suggest that can lead to a total overreaction when you are presented with the reality that not everyone thinks the same as you do and it's easy to dismiss alternative views as 'bias', 'negative', 'happy clapping', 'bedwetting' or so on.
