Checking your bank statement after your Christmas night out at Tynecastle… and it having “Heart of Midlothian” listed on it multiple times, with various amounts next to it.
You shouldn’t feel this violated when you’ve gone and done it of your own free will.
I would either have refused to go or not spent given a penny to them, but that's just me :greengrin

I'll put a face on and bear it because I don't have any desire to spoil it for people who do enjoy all that stuff.
It's just the people who take it too far that gets me. As an example my work has had a bit of a tough year, people leaving the business, change of ownership etc etc. Add to that mid November through mid December is absolutely manic, everyone is at full tilt. I'd suggested that next Thursday we order in a nice lunch, get some beer and wine and whilst still working we can relax a bit and just enjoy the fruits of our labour. Idea went down quite well until the office fun officer got involved. My email about ordering a pizza or a burger was replied to with a 'remember your Christmas jumpers' then 'oh and why don't we do a secret Santa' then the dreaded 'got some party games planned. Pin the nose on Rudolph anyone? Lol'.
What started as a low key chance to just relax a bit exploded into something nobody asked for. It might be coincidence but half a dozen people who were in have suddenly had meetings come up or remembered appointments they previously couldn't recall.
I'll go. I'll put a face on and do what is expected but frankly the whole thing is ruined for me. Forced fun that no one asked for.
I just don’t go to work “fun” events. I let my colleagues know that I do my best to keep my work life and life outside work quite separate. I get on very well with my colleagues and like them a lot, but they understand it’s nothing personal, just a mechanism to ensure that as soon as I’m clocked out for the day, I’m switched off. Made myself ill from taking a precious high pressure job home in the evenings and making sure I never find myself in that position again.
Very, very rarely ever work from home (usually only ever if there’s an emergency that means I need to be at home) for the very same reason.

Same here, for reasons I'll keep to myself, I've hated Christmas since I was a kid but I just grin and bare it hoping I can avoid as much of it as possible. In years gone by I would volunteer to work over Christmas and then take a weeks annual leave before the whole new year thing kicked off.
There was a spell when my boy was still young that I could enjoy some of it through his eyes and that was OK, but now I'm just back to wishing the whole thing was already behind us for another year.

People who are ridiculously loud for no reason. I don't mean young kids or whatever, that's understandable, but fully grown adults.
My daughter and I have a daft Saturday morning tradition. Before her swimming lessons we get a hot chocolate and a coffee, different place every week from Starbucks to independent, and we score it out of 10. Anyway today is McDonalds and the place is dead. Only us and a group of 3 adults, they are at a table together and are literally screaming at each other from less than a foot apart. 'Awrite mate', 'AYE NO BAD' 'READY FOR CHRISTMAS' 'AYE MAN BUT ME AND HER ARE A BIT ON AND OFF' 'THAT'S BRUTAL MAN'. Just shut the **** up.
Flat white was a solid if unspectacular 6/10, hot chocolate a disappointing 5 btw.
Cling Film …….. that’s all.
Cling film packaging that never works, end bit always comes apart meaning the tube comes out all the time and the serated edge bit that inevitably comes off meaning you have to use a knife to tear it.

I'm a fussy hot chocolate person too. My face when I ordered a luxurious Belgian chocolate in spoons one day was a picture - spoons so I wasn't expecting much, maybe a bit of whipped cream and a nice tasting hot drink, not too sweet. I was handed a chocolate lollipop, told to go to the coffee machine and get hot milk and stir!

I only rate the coffees. The bairn is the hot chocolate critic.
Her only 10 so far has been for Aemilla in Portobello. Primarily a pasta shop but in the winter they do these huge hot chocolates with a home made toasted marshmallow on top. From the little bit I got to try it was very good.

That's not just ferries, it's everywhere. Get in your car, first thing to do switch the engine on, check your phone, phone some people back, put your seat belt on, etc etc etc., then three or four minutes later drive off. Particularly foul habit in ferries though. :agree:

When I was a bairn if Hibs were away my dad took me to watch his football. After the game in the pub (Leslie's on Ratcliffe Terrace, one of the best) me and another couple of laddies got sat in the back room with cans of coke. Every other week about 6pm I'd get bribed with another can of coke and packet of Brannigans if I didn't tell my mum my dad had another pint and instead backed up the story that we were late home because the bus was early and we just missed it.
Along with Scampi Fries they were a crisp/snack just meant for the pub.

Not crisp related, but my current pet peeve is Car Insurance renewals. Why do companies increase their second year premiums so much that you're forced to look elsewhere? I don't want to change insurer each year but I have to or face huge increases in premium. It's a real hassle every year, and it gets so I can no longer remember who I'm insured with.

Because it's a mandatory insurance, I think it should be regulated, with price caps in place and rules to stop exploitation of good customers. It's an absolute disgrace of an industry and I'm sure the rapid rise in uninsured drivers speaks volumes of how bad it is.

The post-Sunday trend of digging out every refereeing decision that can be found by Celtic/Rangers fans as absolute proof there's an anti-Rangers/anti-Celtic conspiracy. Zero self awareness that the rest of Scottish football looks on in awe as they fail to see how both being treated so favourably all the time has led to this entitlement of expecting to get every decision - it can't work that way when you play each other chaps.

I was waiting to go and see my bairns school Christmas show today. Queue stretched from the doors all the way round the corner and half way up the street. Some woman walks up, tries the door then looks around as if she is stunned there are other people there. Do you think we are all just standing out here in the cold for a laugh?
People who ask if I'm 1st taxi in the rank when there's 3 taxi's in front of me, do they know how queues work?

I'm sure all couriers suffer from rough handling of packages, but I've witnessed first hand the Evri/Hermes couriers that meet up in the Hermiston Gait B&Q car park on an evening and play some kinda tourettes pass the parcel between themselves. The way they throw them about, I'm surprised the majority of deliveries are not just expensive collections of fragments!

Managed to punch myself in the face two nights ago then got wiped out by an errant dog five minutes later.
Was playing tug of war with my dog. She let go suddenly and I smacked myself in the face, sending my glasses flying. Partner found it very funny.
Got grumpy and took the dog out for a pee before bedtime. Put her on the lead, and took her out the front where there’s a grass verge. A woman was stood on the pavement and my dog started doing some gentle grrrrs - she can be funny with unexpected people in the dark (never, ever more than a gentle grrrrr. She also doesn’t like people who have been drinking or oddly, men in hats).
Decided to head up the grass verge to head away from them (after apologising and explaining) only to be absolutely banjoed. Arse over tit. Turns out that the person was standing there as they’d let their jet black dog off the leash to find a place for a sneaky poo, and after completing the job ran back to its owner taking me out in the process.
My dog starts barking at all the commotion, my partner peeks through the curtains to see what’s happening, sees me on the ground and I head back home to find her borderline hyperventilating with laughter at my misfortune.
Just went straight to bed. Still grumpy about it.

On the way home from Cupar and a tree had clearly fallen, as there was a small queue of traffic either side of it - blocking both lanes. Everyone out of their cars to be able to shift it enough to open up even one lane - and before the tree is even back down on the ground two cars (a Mini and a BMW) go sailing past, nearly clipping us moving it.
My partner is now in A&E after something's gone in her shoulder and she can't move her arm. Imagine if everyone had been out helping, may have been different. Long night for us now and that's likely her out of her lifting competitions for a bit too.

I don’t mind the likes of Gary Neville most of the time. Those kind of pundits offer an interesting bit of insight most of the time. It’s when they don’t call it like it is because it’s their own club or personal relationships get in the way that’s annoying, Neville’s refusal to ever criticise Solskjaer when he was manager was a good example of that.

Probably excited because they’re on their holidays, however I do sympathise because the American tourists in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Derry and Belfast (four places I frequent regularly) often leave me with a migraine and a lessening will to live.

On the subject of scrapers, while I’ve not yet seen this raise its ugly head on Facebook yet this winter, the conical plastic ones are absolutely useless. They show videos of folk using them and the hard frost falls away like water off a duck’s back. I stupidly bought one of these two or three years ago and frankly, they just don’t work. They’re fine for removing soft semi-melted frost or snow but they just slide over hard frost. The ‘reviews’ (fake) make out they’re the best thing so we sliced bread.

My sister loves internet shopping from China and got me one of those a couple of years back. Great this year with the snow we've had but completely useless with a typical frost. This year's present is a small box which "magically removes all the snow on the outside of the car, from the inside of the car." A few internet searches later and it's most likely to be an air freshener.....

I’m relieved to see somebody confirming my opinion. Last year on Facebook about a dozen or more companies, all apparently British but almost certainly Chinese, were pushing this wonderful product and I took every opportunity to highlight how useless they actually were. Not surprisingly, my comments curiously disappeared within a few hours.
Along the same lines a few years ago, I fell for a minor scam with one of these companies and was so pissed off that I made a point of checking out reviews on Trustpilot for any of these companies (Chinese as it happened). 99% of them were getting terrible reviews and I always put a comment on their adverts on Facebook, warning folk about their unscrupulousness, using the term ‘’scam’. I eventually got a warning ( from Facebook, I assume) warning me to stop and desist my negative reviewing. These companies and hundreds more are still flooding Facebook.

I genuinely don't know how some people manage. I know the Lee Anderson types will say you can buy a bag of oats, 8 tins of kidney beans and a pack of spaghetti for a fiver and live for a week but in the real world where people want to eat a bit of variance and flavour it's hard going.
I cook almost everything from scratch. I waste nothing. If I have an onion left over I chop it, freeze it and use it the following week, same with things like celery, chilli or herbs. I keep a big tub of chicken bones and use them to make stock when I have enough, I chuck certain peelings in with that as well.
A couple of years back I could do a weekly shop for 4 of us for about £55 which I accept was pretty low but the lack of ready meals and the like definitely keeps costs down. That was a good varied menu. Plenty veg, fruit for snacks, fillings for sandwiches, a few treats etc etc. The same shop now is about £25-30 more expensive. Some of the percentage increases on things like butter, pasta, tinned tomatoes, baked beans (the latter 3 all being cheap staples) is huge and it all adds up. 50p here and £1 there on a list of 30-40 items quite easily becomes £20+.
I'm lucky that I can afford to absorb it and in some cases make cheaper choices but there will be some who just can't and it's only getting worse.

Expect them to be on Clubcard prices soon - at £2.90 or £3.00 so it looks like you’re making a 50-60p saving. This is an old trick where a store can say something is discounted if it’s been on sale at a higher price - even if it’s at another store - for a certain period of time.
DFS are brutal for this with their sofas, they’ll have one stuck in a corner in a store in the back of beyond marked up at twice its retail price. As soon as it’s been on sale long enough, they stick the 50% off stickers on the same sofa in all their stores, the price is still the retail price but they can present it as a half price sale and unwitting punters think they’re getting a bargain.

I sometimes feel the forum operates in a weird parallel universe where time has stood still for 20 years.
I see posts about the site being 'riddled with' or 'reeking of' Hearts fans. 20 odd years ago it definitely went on. I was on the Kickback private board at one point because I'd built up so many posts on there and was a 'proper Hearts man'. Forums were new(ish) and exciting then and for the most part busier than they are now in terms of numbers, if not posts, and it presented scope to be a bit disruptive or make a bit of mischief. It was quite coordinated at one point and often very funny (the kazoo incident springs to mind). No one bothers with that now; I haven't been near Kickback in years beyond the odd glance for a laugh and the same will be true the other way.
I also read posts talking about 'well seeing the school holidays have started'. Aye because trolling hibs.net is what all the cool kids are doing:faf:.
There is barely a poster under 35 on here and the vast majority will be 50+. Kids now are annoying grumpy old men (self included btw) by making TikToks of themselves being ultras rather than by posting nonsense on their online safe haven.
The Kazoo incident is Bollahs greatest achievement in life and will never be beaten, there were a few similar ones we did over the years but they never hit the heights of the Kazoo, we had built up so many posts over there over the years they just outright believed anything we said
I actually miss my trolling days to a certain degree, I got banned on so many BBC message boards like the Cycling Forum, The Snooker one and best of all Poetry Corner as they didn't like my poems

I managed to persuade a fair few of them that i had acquired 10,000 kazoos through a joke shop company liquidation, and that it would be a great idea to hand them out at the upcoming Aberdeen game and do well known hearts songs in kazoo like a mass kazoo band or something. A few of them had me pegged as a jealous hobo but i had been undercover for awhile and had some trust, and in a way its such a stupid pointless unlikely lie it sort of had a ring of truth to it :greengrin So a fair few of them liked the idea, pms were exchanged and a number of them arranged to meet pre-match at Diggers to hand out the kazoos. There were enough jambos seemingly keen on the idea that i actually thought i might have to buy the kazoos myself to kerep the windup alive! At the last moment Cambuslang Jambo (booo) outed me and i was banned shortly afterwards.

The old days of trolling Kickback were superb fun. I had found myself in a role at work where I had basically nothing to do for long periods each day and I spent hours between here and kickback trolling them.
It was the Romanov era and so even the most outlandish claims were believable.

I used to troll them during long nights on call when I worked for the rescue services.
Best fun I had was on a thread where they were trying to think of a nickname for Thomas Flögel back in the early 2000's.
I piped up as a helpful Austria Vienna fan and suggested they adopt the name the Vienna fans used to describe his fast catlike runs. They were all thanking me for my input and were loving the idea of making a few banners to make him feel at home until some pesky kid googled what "Fotze Flögel" actually meant.

Really, really thick people on social media.
Something popped up to my timeline of a very obvious publicity stunt - a pizza restaurant that are charging £100 for a ham and pineapple pizza after they lost a vote on their social media channels on whether or not to add it to their menu against their will. Blatant publicity stunt.
Queue - literally hundreds - of middle aged and older people absolutely ****ing fuming about this, talking about boycotts, “nobody can tell me what I can or can’t eat”, and comments that read like a four year old wrote them “luv pineapple on pizza nom nom nom”.
What the actual living ****?

Folk who go to the football and can't content themselves for 45 minutes at a time.
Guy next to me yesterday was in just before kick off. 5 minutes in he's up with the 'scuse me, scuse me'. Reappears a few minutes later, I'm assuming a toilet trip. 25 minutes in he's up again and comes back with 2 portions of chicken and chips (could he not have just combined that with the toilet trip?). Half time he's away again and comes back with 2 hot drinks. 5 minutes into the 2nd half he's up again, reappears a few minutes later, then at 80 minutes he was up to leave but stood at the front to watch for another 5 minutes.
I think yesterday was the first time I have sat in the west lower in about 20 years and I didn't like it one bit. We were low down so the site lines were crap, the whole corner between the west and south is obscured and it's pretty cramped. I'm not sure if it was a demographic thing as it felt there were a lot more kids in yesterday but folk around us were up and down constantly throughout the game. Guy next to me was one of many.

I had one family turn up 20 minutes late, try tell me that I was in their seat (I wasn’t). They were adamant I was, ‘seat 127’ oh that’ll be the empty seat next to me then. Then once they were in and seated two of them spent the rest of the game coming in and out the row for various reasons.
There’s a couple of roasters who usually sit there when it’s season ticket seating but I’ll gladly have them back next time :greengrin

I don't mind when it's bairns. Kids will need the toilet or want a juice or whatever and up to a certain age you just have to go with it, particularly regarding the former.
This guy was just with his partner though. He was also one of those guys who calls every player by a nickname as if they are his best pals. 'Good one Rocks', ' plenty time Wazza', '**** sake Millsy', 'welcome back Keegsy'. That irrationally irritates me.

I don't think anyone is going to decry someone for going to the toilet during the game.
It's the full on combination of arriving late, pissing about trying to find their seat, up to the toilet then up again for food 5 minutes later then up for drinks 10 minutes after that then leaving early but hanging about half way down the stairs instead of just ****ing off.
Maybe it's just me but if I got up to the toilet and also planned on having food and a drink I'd probably combine it into one trip rather than 3 separate journeys.

Our normal seats weren't available on sat, I think it's a cup game thing , so we moved across the steps. I think we found the worst seats in the stadium. We were bottom of the main steps (west lower) where there's another few steps down to the left then a few down to the exit. People stop on their way up and down if there's any action going on ,totally blocking our view, people leaving for the last 10 mins or so meant we were trying to peer through them to see the game. They are oblivious, as I was until I sat there. They aren't doing anything wrong, it's just rubbish seats.

My regular seat in the east is similar in that I'm next to a stair way, but also there are a few rows behind the accessible platform for wheelchairs etc that actually have to come up to our row before heading back down and out.
Virtually every game without fail folk choose to leave early (as is their right) but will stop on the stairs, not only blocking others that genuinely want to leave but restrict the sightlines for those that want to stay.
The regulars amongst us have given up saying anything as those that cause the issue know their doing so and at this point in the game the stewards are all down pitchside so can't do anything.

It's funny you say this because I was also in the West for the first time in a while and usually sit in the east and hated it as well. I had a guy behind who was just shouting non stop at the players, some of the highlights being "pass the ball", "move" and how could I forget "open it up". Not only can't the players hear you, everyone within earshot is sick of you. Other complaints were, it felt like there was less leg room, the view was more obscured, the catering was better though. I was only there as my usual seats were already taken and wanted to give it a shot.

Think I’ve already put this pet peeve on here but I absolutely detest folk that like to commentate a game. So grating.
There is a woman behind me at my usual ST seat who doesn’t know who any of the players are. Every week “who’s that number 2?” Folk she’s with tell her then it’s the same again next time round. And it isn’t just Miller (that was just an example). It’s half the team and well known players too like Boyle, Newell, etc. Kwon too which amuses me - we’ve got one East Asian player… take a guess who it is!

Has anybody noticed the huge upsurge in small companies manufacturing low carb., sugar free., keto baked goods? Demand is high and Facebook is full of them. I believe they are excellent and are great for type 2 diabetics and folk on low carb diets etc. But the cost of everything is blindingly high. For example, one company is selling a small loaf for £5 and nearly £5 delivery. Very few of this type of food is available from major retailers and supermarkets. These small companies explain away their prices with understandable reasons….. high cost of raw materials, high overheads and artisanal baking methods. When are big boys going to see the potential of this huge market and grab a slice (pardon the pun) of the cake? Prices will still be relatively high but not nearly as prohibitive as present suppliers.

Americans that comment on UK originated social media posts and question the post because it isn’t in American English. Just read one on the social media account Fesshole where somebody has said something about the use of “full stops”.
The first comment is from an American who complains that they don’t understand the post as it seems to them that the post meant to say “period”.
I saw another one a few weeks ago where a woman had told her daughter to physically hand in her CV to a cafe rather than email it in, only for the cafe to tell the girl that they do not accept physical applications.
Response from an American “well that’s totally on you because not only did you tell her to go in person, you didn’t stop her using a CV irrespective of the method it is submitted. A CV isn’t appropriate for any job application, she should be handing in a resume”.

It's fair enough that Americans stick to their own home-grown words like résumé. They can't be Americanising curriculum - that would become crriclm, which is too hard to say.

Mate, it's an all inclusive in Tenerife and you haven't left your hotel grounds in 5 days. It's hardly the pyramids, WWI battlefields or Rome is it?
I don't care what other parents do with their kids and I'm certainly no grass about such things but just be honest. You are there now because you want a bit winter sun and it's cheaper to go now than it is at half term in a couple of weeks. 'Culture' has got **** all to do with it:faf:

I think those shows have their place.
I wouldn't really choose to watch them if it was just me but Saturday night, just in from the football, food prepared and the run of Gladiators, Masked Singer, 1% Club is pretty safe family viewing when I have my 7 and 3 year old kicking about. Unlikely to be anything age inappropriate and certainly with the former two the bairns enjoy them.I never included gladiators cos it's phenomenal and makes me nostalgic about being a bairn and...well ...Jet memories! [emoji14]
The 1% club is decent enough, never too taxing but enough to think about.

Granted there are exceptions! Used to work with a guy that used to eat garlic salami or something every lunchtime. It's a large office and the whole floor absolutely stunk of it...he ended up getting sacked, I'm guessing it wasn't for that but good riddance :greengrin

I understand they can't provide feedback to every single applicant but when it gets to interview stage you are talking about a handful of people. Common courtesy to provide a bit feedback if requested.
Happened to my wife lately. Applied, interviewed, email saying her interview was unsuccessful, she replied asking for feedback for future reference and then radio silence. Just rude; even an email saying 'we can't provide individual feedback' would be basic decency.

Not sure if this is a peeve buts it’s certainly getting on my nerves at the moment.
House stuff.
We bought our house with my son - who is 4 today - on the way and we were skint at the time, with the prospect of my wife going on maternity leave and the drop in income that would come with it, so we compromised on a lot of stuff at the time.
Just little things like buying second hand furniture and doing things we could ourselves. Now these things are all going wrong, the cheap bed we moved from the old house is falling apart, my bedside table was second hand is now falling to bits, some of the DIY stuff we did like fitting a cheap laminate floor is tired and knackered already.
We bought a cheap oven to go in the kitchen which has always been a bit crap is now on the blink.
Not to mention the 20 plus years old kitchen which was scruffy when we moved in is starting to really fall apart.
We love the house but it’s such a project and lots of these jobs which were ones for the future are now needing done. Things like the driveway which is probably original tarmac is now less tarmac, more under layer, we need to renew the fascia, soffits and guttering.
Feels very overwhelming.

Feels very overwhelming. Here's how I'd do it.
Go round the place, room by room, inside and outside and make a list. List everything, no matter how small.
Then sit with your list and rank each space in terms of use - use the kitchen, livingroom, bedroom and bathroom most probably so rank everything in each of those rooms in order of importance, but also consider easy wins.
Then go room by room and tick it off.
People make the mistake of jumping around and taking on too much and it becomes over whelming.
Do what you can yourself, what you can't, pay someone to do it properly - it's value in the long run. Also consider how much easier it makes your life if someone just does it well.
When it comes to kitchens, bathrooms - spend the money on things you touch (hoi... stop s******ing at the back)... taps, switches etc.
Importantly, on your list, take a few easy tasks and do them so you feel like you've started. Tidying really helps too, it's easy to mistake clutter or untidiness as much more work when actually you'll clear your mind by clearly the floor or counter etc.
Don't underestimate how much relaying a cheapish floor, or a fresh paint job can make a whole room feel fresh.
I'm sure there's plenty trades on here that can give you proper advice about specific tasks. I'm just a diy person, the only thing I don't do is anything past basic electrics or basic plumbing.

How far down the DIY rabbit hole have you gone?
I’m seriously considering doing my guttering, fascia boards and soffits after seeing quotes for £10-12k. It looks doable if I can get the help and do it sections so we aren’t fighting too hard against time and weather.
My driveway too, that was quoted £6k, and we are looking at resin bound driveways and you can buy kits to do it yourself.

Your guttering and facia should be okay. I'm very much of the opinion if you read up and watch you tube you can tackle most things. Make sure you've got a good ladder and someone holding it. Is that price 3 quotes? I've not idea what it would cost tbh.

Resin driveways should be banned along with artificial 'turf' :greengrin
The footprint in manufacturing this stuff is disgusting and does more harm than good!
Builders pimping themselves out for work will no doubt tell you resin driveways are 'good for the environment', it's utter codswallop - but if you must then prepare a place in hell for yourself
ps Resin jobs are very expensive and it's very very easy to screw it up, some jobs are worth paying folk to do and in experience this is one of them.

My wife's constant reorganising of the kitchen cupboards and the lack of consultation about it. I wouldn't mind if she either consulted (told) me first or if the kitchen was her domain. It isn't. I probably do more of the cooking. You go to get something and it isn't there. Appreciate this isn't directly a cooking thing given my last comment but I came in from the gym last night and went to get a glass of water. Opened the cupboard where the glasses are and they weren't there. She had moved them which means that cooking implements have probably moved too.

Artificial turf is the work of satan, no doubt about that.
Is an artificial driveway worse than, say, tarmac or concrete? I don't fancy mono-block with the upkeep etc.
I did think about doing pavers with spaces for grass to grow through but again it's just another thing to upkeep and I want something that is going to be low maintenance.
What is it about resin driveways that make them so bad? AFAIK the material is aggregate but I haven't looked in to that side of it.
Are their any eco-friendly options?

It's just me with my eco-head on. Masses of chemicals get used to produce them generally and also once down there isn't anywhere for wee beasties etc to live 😁
If monoblock is done properly all you vae to is put in kiln sand once a year (maybe an hour's job on a sunny day) and the upkeep is minimal.
It's all about weighing up what you want and if you have any morals 🤣 If you want zero upkeep then yeah go for resin, any other option will require slight maintenance but like anything keep on top of it and you'll be grand.
My grandad always said to me if you see a weed just pull it out of its unsightly and that way big jobs never get on top of you 😁

Depends how you define eco-friendly. If you're concerned about good water management and encouraging pollinating insects, consider planting wildflower meadow around the pavers you'll drive up. It will grow on any rubbish soil, and the only maintenance you'll need to do is a cut back and remove in late autumn. And rainwater will have somewhere to run off to when theres heavy rainfall. Crushed concrete is recycled and its also permeable so it drains, so thats a decent option.
The most eco-friendly option is not to have a driveway at all, although thats not an option for everyone.

Fair do's guys, we are both environmentally conscious and like doing things to encourage wildlife in the garden - we've planted a heap of hedging this year along the front to replace a fence that probably only has 3 or 4 good storms left before it gives up on us.
I'd prefer to avoid something that is going to need continuous upkeep throughout the year but something made from recycled materials like the recycled concrete could be a good shout.

Thanks Jim, I had a quote a few years ago for soffits etc for £6k which will no doubt have increased, we are asking them for a new price.
I had one guy working across the street who came over and wandered about for 5 minutes, he came back with £12k, having seen the amount of work my in-laws had done on their much bigger, higher and dormer windowed house a few miles away I have confirmed he was an absolute rip off merchant as they paid £12k for theirs.
I have looked at a few Youtube videos and it looks fairly straightforward. Material prices I reckon would be around the £1500 mark from some fag packet calculations, so there's a hellish difference between £1500 and my own time vs anything from £6-10k - no disrespect intended whatsoever to any roofers reading this, if I had the money I'd get someone in to do it.

Tidying up. "Putting things away".
Nothing guarantees that I'll be ****ing scratching my head having to ask her "where's the....." even more than usual than the phrase "I've sorted the place out a bit" which means "I've put loads of stuff in different cupboards and drawers and you'll only find out when you have to ask me in 3 weeks"

Unsustainable businesses blaming having to pay their staff a better wage for their woes.
I saw a social media post from a 'wacky' southside cafe/bakery in Glasgow, one of those places that only exist in the southside of Glasgow or nouveau Leith or the like. At first I felt a bit bad for them but then they dropped the line 'and the rise in minimum wage is the final straw'.
A bit digging suggests this places has a USP of selling cookies shaped like a *****. That's their business, they sell cookies hilariously shaped like male sexual organs with swear words on them. They also sell coffee and like everywhere that sells coffee that isn't Costa or Starbucks there is a big story about how it's the best coffee and a whole load of other hyperbole that Trump would be proud of. Then I found out they charge £9 for one cookie. And they don't open until 10am thus missing that period between 7 and 9 when people might grab a coffee on the way to work. And sometimes they don't open at all because of 'other commitments'. And their cookies are totally inappropriate for kids, you know the demographic most likely to want to buy sickly sweet cookies.
So basically they open when they fancy. Produce a product that they can't sell at a price people are willing to pay day to day. Have a product that is pretty niche to start with and is most likely a one time purchase for most people. A quick glance on Google suggests they have at least 2 competitors within about 5 doors either who are cheaper, have a wider product range and open for longer. One is a donut place that seems to be able to sell donuts for about the half the price of a willy cookie. Amazing.
But in spite of all it's the staffs fault for not being willing to work for £3 and hour. That is basically what it boils down to: if we could pay less then we would. Not that they have created a totally unsustainable business. Also how many people do they think will be able to pay £9 for a wacky cookie if wages don't go up? The answer is even less than now. I make it a point to avoid any business that actively complains publicly about having to pay a fair wage (that isn't really a fair wage but it's what we have).
Rant over.

Rant over.

No, more that if they could (get away with paying that), they would

Unsustainable businesses blaming having to pay their staff a better wage for their woes.
I saw a social media post from a 'wacky' southside cafe/bakery in Glasgow, one of those places that only exist in the southside of Glasgow or nouveau Leith or the like. At first I felt a bit bad for them but then they dropped the line 'and the rise in minimum wage is the final straw'.

That's them and that bit isn't on.
But then neither is dropping a complaint about having to pay an increased minimum wage to the staff they supposedly '****ing love' into their rant. Running a business is hard graft and if your opening hours are inconsistent and limited then you can't blame that on minimum wage, even partially.
Their business is in a saturated market, everywhere is doing '****ing badass coffee bitches' that is better than the big boys and a cookie telling someone to 'make me squirt' or other vulgarities doesn't change that. It's a niche online business that was doing well, apparently still is in that capacity, that is totally unsuited to a high street presence. Accept that and go back to what was successful rather than apportioning any blame to minimum wage because you have made a bad business move.

Thing is - I’ve bought a cookie from there for my partner. A novelty, silly gift and yes, there was a cafe in there.
I didn’t buy my coffee from there as its purpose to me was a gift shop. Ended up spending about £23 on assorted things, and to read that I should have been buying a coffee from them too and I’m using their shop wrong isn’t exactly wonderful.

The way plastic bottles/cartons now have the lid attached. I appreciate it's an environmental thing but it can be fiddly. Mind you, I remember when ring pulls started being attached to cans and I got used to that.

Yes. But they're impractical on a bottle. The lid is in the way when you're trying to drink from it. I rip them off anyway. You lose a bit of your drink but at least the lid is off. Pointless.
Perhaps it would have been better just to do away with plastic bottles and have us get used to the idea of that!

Unsure what you're reading as being false.
In their original rant about how the cafe is struggling they briefly mention minimum wage, in their follow up apology/explanation they mention that they've always paid minimum wage, in fact they pay above minimum wage but they still cite the increases across the board as being difficult for them especially when they have a product that (they admit) is priced at the upper end of the market so have little room to move.
They clearly acknowledge they have a problem, they are even trialing opening for weekday mornings just as PB suggested.

Just push it back further. It's designed to open fully, let you drink and keep the recycling together.

Is that because the caps are smaller in height (to save plastic) so less grip to unscrew?

I'm not a fan either.
I don't really want to be the sort of person who says things like this but when you see/consider the widescale use of un-environmentally friendly products here and in other countries I do wonder just how much benefit a marginal increase in recycling rate for bottle tops is going to have...

See when people say the stuck on bottle tops are impractical what is it that is happening to them? I see memes of people with the bottle jammed against their nose or their chin resting on the lid but that seems like being deliberately obtuse.
I just rotate the bottle slightly so the lid is to the side and put a finger on top of it and the lid is nowhere near my face. Tbh I don't even need the finger and the lid seems to miss my face. Maybe I just have really emaciated cheeks but I don't think so. Still easy enough to hold the bottle safely and I don't notice any obvious obstruction to being able to drink it compared to totally removing the lid.

It's more the pouring of, say, a glass of orange juice by kids that can get messy due to the attached lid. Milk's not a problem as we switched to glass bottles years ago.

Perhaps there is variance between brands / types of bottles? I find them to be in the way. Pressing where they shouldn't be. I remove them rather than tolerate them.
The lid is kept with the bottle when I screw it back on when I'm finished.

Or put the lid bit under your chin and drink it and it’s not a problem, strangely enough the last few times I have bought multi pack water it has been the old tops.

Probably a bit serious for this board but my current Pet Peeve is politics: the number of countries moving to the right wing, extremism, totalitarianism...
I find prior to the new tops that I needed to keep the old ones as I...
a) didn't want to spill my fizzy juice
b) didn't want to let it go flat.
So keeping the bottle tops with the bottles was never a real problem.

Somewhat related because it stems from the nasty politics:
The normalisation of calling people '******s', 'mongos' or '*******s' again. It was a dying 'art' when I was at school 20 something years ago but seems to be back with a vengeance and challenging it gets the predictable 'don't be so woke'. Sadly it seems particularly prevalent in my generation who really should know better.
Edit: Thankfully the swear filter doesn't seem to like most of these words but you get the idea.

It may depend what brand it is. From what I recall, this is an EU initiative and isn't actually required in the UK. The problem is the manufacturers can't afford to make a UK-only version so for most brands it's more economical for everybody just to get the attached lids.

Their cookies are magic right enough… but their rant was a bit “Rude” wasn’t it[emoji16] **** them tbh, if you choose to set up shop in a place like Leith or Shawlands and don’t have the turnover to turn a profit that’s your fault, should’ve chose somewhere with lower rents. I’m sure the target audience for a £9 cookie can afford to commute.

This barely qualifies as a peeve, but I'd like to be able to bet on the correct score at the rugby.
I like the idea, and presumably the odds, of betting on a game to end 39-28 and then watching the scores tick up. I'd be sitting there thinking "right it's 26-23, 10 mins to go so I just want them to get 2 3"s here, then a converted try and concede a try which isn't converted - could happen!".

Not so much going crazy as the issues which matter to so many voters these days playing into the hands of the right. Trump's victory was more comprehensive than even he could probably have imagined. Couple that with a UK perspective of Starmer and Swinney being so utterly uninspiring/hapless and you can understand why Reform are surging in the polls.

Reform have been given a massive boost by media and social media companies pushing their agenda.
Farage should have had nowhere near the air time he had over the last decade or so but he’s been platformed at every opportunity and that’s given legitimacy to right wing views.
You look on social media - Twitter in particular - and it’s all aimed at that narrative and folk see enough of it and think it’s the popular view, so eventually go along with it.
It feels like we’re regressing massively towards a much more racist, sexiest and intolerant society. You see things in America like rolling back abortion rights etc and it’s depressing and hugely worrying.

Farage doesn't get the air time he does simply because the media facilitates it. He does so because, like it or not, he's arguably the most influential figure in British politics of the last decade, ever since the days when he transformed UKIP from a fringe act to a significant political force.
As I said in my previous post, the shift in what has ticked the boxes of so many voters during that time is what's played into the hands of more right-wing governments. It's not just the big beasts like immigration, but cultural issues like gender ideology where the centre/left have dropped the ball. In Scotland, for example, Nicola Sturgeon's obsession with such issues has exacerbated situations like the extraordinary court case currently playing out in Dundee where a qualified doctor expects to be taken seriously when claiming biology is an opinion rather than a science and that a biological man is woman just because he says he is. Extraordinarily, when you consider some of his past comments about (and behaviour around) women, Donald Trump has arguably achieved more for women's rights since taking office by signing a directive against biological males taking part in women's sport than 'feminist to my fingertips' Sturgeon did during her whole time as first minister.
