His arm was at his rib cage, not really much else he could do other than become double jointed. You’re the only person I’ve seen either on TV, here or twitter who thinks it was a penalty.
I wouldn’t think it was a penalty even if we were given a pen for it.
I’m with Andy. It’s a penalty for me. Hands are down by his side and he moves his hands up towards the ball.

Penalty all day long
Arms are nowhere near by his side
Are you thinking your arms have to be dead against the side of your body?
Not realistic.
Surely the intention is they aren’t out wider than your body?
In this case both arms were tucked in in front of the body. You can’t be giving penalties for that.

What a horrible run down ground it still looks..not one advertising banner covering any seats, and a load of old tatty flags piled on seats behind the goals..no idea where the cement mixers were hidden..

Was it just me who didnt think they were very good? Someone actually called it in here. Look to get the ball wide as much as possible and put balls into the box and that's exactly what they did

I thought we started fantastic and very comfortable against a good Killie side. Hearts hung on and got lucky against a pap Inverness side who are treating the games as friendlies.
I’m still scared for the Semi mind you. Plukey and Whighton will probably have the game of their lives.

Ok, it’s a whoosh moment for me.
They got the ball to the wide players who put crosses into the box, and that’s a bad thing.
Nut. Still no getting it.
The point I'm make is if it's that easy for a hibs fan to know how they are going to play you would expect better sides to suss then out quickly

We are a very different team to last season.
While no games are a given we are much more solid than last year, we have better players than Hearts in every position and I feel quietly confident about this one.
We need to ensure we don’t let what happened last time happen again.

Although about double the size of the Tynecastle 5 a side pitch, Hampden has exactly the same dimensions as Easter Road. Agree with playing the 2 players you mention

That 1-3 defeat was worse than 0-4 or 1-5 in my mind. Although the stakes were far lower, my expectations were much higher. It was a level playing field, we were at home against a crap, non-financially doped Hearts team, who we had dominated at Tynecastle and who literally could no buy a win. I expected us to ease home comfortably.
But we were not only outfought, we were outplayed in a brilliant Hearts performance, where Stendel got his high press tactics spot on.
Yes, we should win at Hampden, but we 'should have' won back then. It's losable tie if we don't shape up. Focus and aggression will be important. We will have to fight hard for the right to play football in this game. If we get an early goal we could hurt them badly. If not, it could be a bitter slog.

We got our formation wrong too, Hearts doubled up on our wingbacks and constantly overlapped.

They have extra income of around £3m each year from James Anderson currently.

They will go into this game with a point to proof, with no better way of making it than beating us in semi.
As far as they are concerned their relegation should never have happened and they should be challenging for that coveted third spot in the SPL, and a win would validate all the crap they put out on how they would have played their way out of the bottom spot.
Going into a game against them as the favourites always makes me nervous and I will likely stay that way until we are 4 - 0 up.

Their high press game worked that day. We had no time on the ball and could barely string two passes together. Neilson's tactics will be very different. Hopefully, we are better prepared this time.

We have no excuses for the semi final.
We’ve been playing competitive football at a high level for months now, they are just starting and playing lower level.
We have spent money on a strong first team and, probably for the first time that i can remember, player for player i would put our eleven ahead of theirs.
I rate our manager higher than their manager as well.
Everything is in our favour going into this one, our form is excellent as well.
The only thing, and it is significant, that Hearts have is that sense of injustice and what i would imagine is a hugely powerful motivational factor of wanting to put things right for their fans.
We need to have something that gives us that same fire in our bellies as if we match their desire and work rate, we will hammer them on quality.

Yes but to be fair, it's his money to give them if he wants to. We wouldn't consider it "doping" if a Hibs fan won the Euro lottery and decided to give the club a few milliin a year. In the past, they have relied on borrowing money they couldn't afford and in the Vlad days they had an owner who was a crook spending other peoples money and basically stealing from people to fund their 1st team.
Budge is a lot of things, but she's not a thief and Anderson is perfectly entitled to give his money to whoever he wants. Thankfully Anne, Levein and Stendel were very, very good at squandering it...but I suspect Neilson will be a much more astute manager in the long term.

Wightons is a red every day of the week. You can’t deliberately kick someone in the head, no matter how ‘softly’ you do it.
The one on Halkett certainly isn’t clever but I don’t think it’s a red. Any other stadium he wouldn’t have went flying into the boards which are ridiculously close to the pitch. A stonewall yellow, a red would be a stretch for me though.

They underperformed scandalously across the whole season but for that game they actually managed to put together a team that was actually pretty good. When they had Washington, Boyce, Clare, Naismith all available at the same time they were certainly a trickier prospect.
Of course we seemed to collectively have a nightmare which didn’t help but that Hearts team were more dangerous than one they could put out now.

I think Mikey Stewart might be wishing he hadn't dug his heels in so hard with that one, there's 2 sending off offences there for me, raking his studs down the ICT player's groin, then flicking his boot in his face.
I do think the other one is a red card as well though, was pretty dangerous (more so in that **** hole of a stadium given the proximity of the hoardings).

The Halkett incident has bad optics, but at virtually every other ground in Scotland, Halkett is on the turf and isn't clattering into advertising hoardings at the front of the stand and it's a yellow.
You have to wonder if there are players in Scottish football looking at that incident and questioning their safety playing at Tynecastle, clattering into the stands could cause some serious injuries.

The last time we were going to gub them we had grown men almost in tears on here absolutely soiling themselves at the thought that Stendel had revolutionised football with his unstoppable "high press", so mighty that it got them gubbed and relegated by St Mirren the week after.

Likewise, considering some of the derby performances weve been through as Hibs fans, that personally to me was the worst derby display I can remember seeing. Yeah I think we've had better teams (don't think even they could argue that) but I don't think we've had position for position the best team for a long time (as in none of their players would get into our eleven).
There probably have been a few times where that's been the case, but not many.

I wouldnt put too much store by that.
Managers post match comments are rarely an accurate reflection on the events, many times they are designed not to deflate already upset players - even more so after losing a derby.

I don't think anyone at the club will be under any illusions about the importance of this game.
Opportunities to right wrongs don't come along often. We know the record we have against them at Hampden and our last two trips to face them there have been disastrous.
The club have built up a huge amount of goodwill with the fans on and off the park since we last played, but there shouldn't be any doubt about how quickly that can be lost if we don't turn up for this game.
You can argue all day about whether it's right or wrong to rest everything like that on one game, but there's no denying that a bad result for Hibs will set the club back significantly.
A good result, though, will propel us forward - a cup final to look forward, the top team in the city in emphatic fashion, and a real buzz amongst the fans - that's what's at stake.

Yeah, I agree.
Don't get me wrong - I really like Ross and I'm 100% behind him but he was all over the shop at that derby. I don't like to hear "just another game" stuff. You don't hear that from them - you get "never, ever, lose to Hibs" and their good record in derbies is down to how seriously they take it. They've had pish teams punch way above their weight against better Hibs sides often in the past as a result. It's also helped a horrific manager like Levein buy himself a lot more time than he was actually due.
This game is massive, and needs to be treated as such. Hibs played that game like it was "just another game" and got exactly what they deserved.
They better not make the same mistake again.
We do have a few players ideally suited to a derby now that we didn't have in March. Gogic is the type of player that could own the game the way Bartley did, and having a player like Nisbet who can combine a potent scoring threat with comfortably being able to do the ugly stuff will be massive. And in a game where the first goal is always significant, having a solid defence who are standing up strong will be huge too.

I wouldnt put too much store by that.
Managers post match comments are rarely an accurate reflection on the events, many times they are designed not to deflate already upset players - even more so after losing a derby.
I was far too half-arsed and I wasn't impressed.
Tears and snotters or throwing the players under the bus might be a bit undignified but we needed a bit more than that after such a passive performance.

Yeah, I agree.
Don't get me wrong - I really like Ross and I'm 100% behind him but he was all over the shop at that derby. I don't like to hear "just another game" stuff. One thing we need to be extra careful of is getting a man sent off early. They will thump, rush, kick and shove their way through this and target likely Hibs men who might react. Jack needs to let the players be aware of this. Especially those who haven't played in a game like this before.
Its a pity, but you just KNOW Hearts will make an ugly battle of this as they try to overcome the bigger team.

Watched the game last night. I didn’t think Hearts played very well but should probably have been a couple of goals up by HT. Penalty was very dubious.
By full-time I thought Inverness had done enough to warrant a draw, they looked the stronger side at the end which was really surprising.
Hearts winger looks good going forward putting in a number of decent crosses but cannot defend at all.
Hearts defence was really poor and I thought a few players were carrying a bit excess timber.
Once they made a few substitutions they looked totally disjointed, maybe new players not knowing their jobs.
Personally I’d see Hibs comfortably beating them based on quality & sharpness. Things may change though.
Funnily enough I had a look at Keekback and they seemed to think it was a good performance, that would concern me if it was Hibs I was watching.
Naismith for his experience and I can say 100% hand on heart nobody else.
Who would you drop from the Hibs starting line-up to accommodate Naismith?
A lot of the comments I've seen from over the road would tend to suggest that he shouldn't be in their starting eleven never mind ours.

I really, really hope not. I have to say that Ross’s post-match comments really disturbed me. He just didn’t seem to think that losing a derby to the worst Hearts team in living memory was that big a deal.
Depends how long you've been living I guess. I've seen a few worse ones, in particular the late 70s versions which got relegated three times.
But yes, losing that derby in the manner we did was shocking. I was stunned by how badly we played.

Completely agree. He's a horrible wee **** to boot. Can't stand him. His attitude to opposition players and teams is totally disrespectful, he's a snidey wee git not afraid to leave the boot in and deliberately injure players. He's never worth the wages he'll be on and it'll not be long again before he's back on the treatment table with his injury track record. Not Hibs class, never was.

As the Pie Man said nearly 20 years ago: Tynecastle is not fit for purpose.

Will we ever learn...
The last time we were going to gub them we had grown men almost in tears on here absolutely soiling themselves at the thought that Stendel had revolutionised football with his unstoppable "high press", so mighty that it got them gubbed and relegated by St Mirren the week after.
There are two Hearts teams; one used for training, selection, and preparation that doesn't give a toss about winning games, trophies or Europe. And one that runs out against Hibs.
Essentially, James Anderson FOH and unsuspecting charities, small businesses and EDC are pumping in millions to try win 4 games a season. That's why they're so pissed about being relegated.

No, I don’t want to be fair on them :greengrin There’s no suggestion that they are doing anything wrong with their fund raising, we just need reminding every so often that we are not on the same level financially as Hearts.
Too often I read on here that we are somehow both now on a level playing field - this really isn’t the case. They’ve pushed through the best part of £30m of extraneous funds in the past few years. They are streets ahead of us when we compare annual incomes. Fortunately, through appalling management, this hasn’t translated on to the pitch.

As has been demonstrated to good effect over the past few seasons, it is not the quality of the players that count but the quality of the manager/head coach. The decline at the bus shelter started after Neilson departed, up until Potter completely ****** them up on the downward spiral last season.
Hibs on the other hand have grown slowly since 2015 both on and off the field with only a glitch with a season of Heckingbottom.
Yams do not have the nous to win at an empty Haqmpden.

Why would any jambo want to dig into Bidco and why the transfer of ownership is taking so long, donations are forever diverting and the good doctor is still lingering.
Budge must stay.

The weird group think on JKB was such that they would all nod along with the idea that Budge was pioneering doing things for the greater good of the game, and that they were so lucky to have her, it seems like the penny is starting to drop with most over there, who now seem to think they need an entire clear out starting with Budge, one notable exception to the rule is Saughton Jambo who is still unwilling to hear any negative comments about Budge:crazy:
Is Saughton Jambo the one that presented all the inside information and was consistently wrong but was still someone had everyone hanging on his posts?

They both did tbf. The Daz one was usually about players, pretty sure one of his was the only reason they didn’t sign Nisbet is because they refused to accept a Celtic clause in his contract. Saughton Jambo was just spectacularly wrong about everything to do with reconstruction and their relegation. He was also the go between for the conveyancing lawyer.

Yeah. I remember vividly the weekend he informed all and sundry that he'd be opening the champagne bottles come the Monday night after Hearts had been reinstated.
I was gutted thinking he had inside information. Hilarious when it turned out to be total bs. Wasn't the first time or the last he'd lead them over a clifftop like maroon lemmings.

He only went to Hearts to maintain his profile so that he could play for Scotland. He limited his Hearts exposure by spending half the season on the treatment table. Now that he is out of the Scotland squad, he is not going to make the effort.

I once lost a one day appeal hearing and had to pay the opposing side 2k for their legal team plus court costs of 3k which included 3 Lawlords. One day cost me 5k in total outright costs.. Their arbitration lasted around a week. I'd suggest top whack around 10k a working day all in. Guessing 50k total but I could be wrong or right?

Yup. Some of the really deluded are “waiting for other clubs to go bust then Doncaster will beg Hearts to come back to the top league”. They just don’t get the irony that wishing other clubs will fail will likely cancel and already reduced season for the lower leagues and therefore give them at least 2 years in the championship.

He also said that Gordon and Naismith would be ready for Scotland next month. Maybe if there's a massive Covid outbreak among the players ahead of them....

A few wins in the Premiership next year and then we'll talk.

Exactly what I said to mates earlier. Part of a defence that led to their relegation last season, now deserves a call up after a few games against lower league teams?

Personally think Halkett is a bomb scare. Can attack a ball and that is about it imo. Also needs to learn to wear shorts the right size for him. :greengrin

Yep. All their CB’s are quite similar in that they’d head through a brick wall but come undone against teams who’re quick and keep the ball on the deck

Robbie Replay's rousing call to fight Raith's injustices possibly give an indication of just how thick he is. Presumably if he believes that Raith were wrong to dispute Hearts' attempt at denying their promotion then he also supported Hearts attempt to deny Dundee United their promotion? As this latter achievement is one of the few highlights on his CV, then perhaps he'd be better keeping his mouth firmly shut.

Apparently they’re now saying they’re targeting an unbeaten league season to take the title. What a shower of arrogant tossers, let’s hope the other Championship teams know when big headed Hearts are in town so they can lie down to them. No more motivation for the rest of the Championship needed now, who the f... do they think they are?

I think your last point is the crux of the matter, the man can’t find shorts that fit him, or he prefers the tight fitting shorts. Heading out onto the pitch in ill fitting shorts in order to sexually excite the cardigan wearing wife swapping brigade isn’t going to get him a Scotland call up. I’d like to think that the National team managers car keys haven’t ever been in a fruit bowl in a caravan amongst like minded individuals. I actually don’t mind Halket, but the minute you join that club and get involved in niche porn in a rover 75 you must know your career will suffer, just look at Gary Locke.

It's mental that they seem to think that they're some kind of world beaters!! A penalty after a minute would have killed the game a bit especially when it was never a penalty. Be interesting to see if the referee gets any games for a while. Absolute disaster for the guy

Hearts under Neilson in their promotion season were all about getting the early goal and killing the game there and then, and it worked a treat for them in most games.
We were too patient, I'm sure if you looked at the stats and checked when games were won, Hearts would have had a far higher percentage where they led at half time than we did.
Helps them when refs give them penalties every game, though.

To be honest, that looks to me he's telling his players to keep the Vaughn on his left foot.
His ACL injury was in his right knee, so it wouldn't make sense for Neilson to point to his left leg for that reason.

The first pen was one of the worst I’ve seen and the second dubious at best. I’m amazed the raith players stayed so calm. Back to them getting pens every game. Should we have a prediction of how many pens they get this season. I go for 15. They seem desperate to get hertz promoted. Pathetic.
