We are not signing Triantis as a second option to McCowan because our board surely, SURELY aren't that incompetent.

So those complaining about the process...you think both Mackay and gray are lying?
I trust Gray that he is a player he both values and wanted. There's been plenty of loan players come to Hibs who've had a ropey start, only to go on to better things. Maybe a bit of patience and encouragement is needed for nectar coming back?
Who said they’re lying. We were told to trust the process, game changing etc yet we’ve just signed Triantis on loan again.
Sorry for not being fooled by the utter ***** coming out of Kensells mouth.

Our team is garbage. Was hoping for a couple today but a loan signing that we had last season? Shambles.
I’ve read people thinking there’s been progress because we’ve brought in ‘10 players’. Talk about burying head in sand stuff. You can bring in 110 players but if you don’t address the problems, it’s meaningless.
No good keeper
Left back position not sorted.
A midfield that’s one of the worst in league. If you start Newell and Campbell regularly then you can’t expect to win games.
Club is a mess. And this window shows how much they couldn’t give a toss about the actual football side of it.Window not closed yet , bit soon to write of new goalies , our left back was our best player last season , our midfield may not be great but who are the players in other non OF teams you rate so highly ? McCowan who we`re trying to sign , O`Hara at St M who is rumoured to be very expensive for our league and who else ? We`re far from the only team to be unable to find midfielders who improve their teams .

Luke Shanley on Sky just now saying Celtic moving forward on being McCowan in so if it wasn’t dead already then I’m sure it is now.

What's incredible is that we have been trying to get him all summer and it's a position and profile of player we have identified but don't appear to have a plan 'b' or 'c' I'd very much doubt we spend the funds in the last 50 minutes of the window.

I agree that at his age there's a big worry he won't be fit often,
But he got two beautiful assists against Celtic, clearly still has quality.
Plenty of players in the league had several games against bottom 6 sides and weren't racking up the assists like hoillet was.

If we could get both Triantis and Kwon in the middle it could give us a bit more steel and both can play a pass.
Would maybe mean dropping Newell which I don't see or maybe playing Newell more advanced which I don't see.
Looking like
Kwon/Triantis
Newell
Rudi
Would be our best midfield as things stand.
It is as a midfield 4, but then we are trying to get Boyle, Bowie, Youhan, Kura and Hoilett into 2 spaces? Good options tbh.

We need starters so makes it a little confusing - not much point of Kwon and Triantis both being signed on loan and not playing them both. Obviously Kwon doesn’t play against Celtic.
Will Newell play higher up - but his limited goals and assists could be an issue. I do think he would be a better 10 than CDM but we are getting desperate here.

Is this it for this transfer window.
If so, my reflection is the success has been in moving on a load of the dross signed by Ian Gordon. Albeit, many are out on loan and we must be paying the majority of their wages given most of them failed at Hibs.
Out of those signed, only Bowie looks an upgrade on what we moved out (Vente).
The rest. Look no better than what we lost so another mid table finish at best as long as Gray gets a few wins in the next two months. If he doesn't it's going to be a struggle.

Part of the problem this summer was the sheer number of starters we needed to sign, even then tolerating fullbacks who can’t defend etc.
The thing about signing McCowan is that he would have been a starter for a few years to come, and highly unlikely to be someone needing replaced at our next major rebuild - presumably next summer.
Instead, next summer will involve another major rebuild replacing this year’s sticking plasters. The cycle of mediocrity (presumably what is referred to in some places as the process) will continue.

Disappointed we didn't get McCowan and he's a decent player but we've not missed out on Messi ffs. The longer the transfer saga went on, the better he got. Ended up he was the Messiah that would solve all Hibs problems. Gray sees him as someone thst can protect the back four from midfield freeing up Joe to play further forward .He was immense at Ross county He went off and we got deeper and deeper and ended up losing the game
But he struggled to last 90 minutes and while I would of hoped for a more expected player he is a good addition
Gray played him and dropped Marcondes so he clearly liked him

Great move for him though. Nice earner and does a couple of years at his boyhood club before going out on loan, probably to us.

Are we ever going to sign a midfielder than can run with the ball, drive forward, create chances and score the odd goal ever again?
Or is it just signing guys who all stand on each others toes and play it sideways to each other from 2 yards?
I’m soo tired of stacking all these midfielders up. Every year that goes by in modern football, makes me just miss the days you had guys like Scott Brown and eventually Mcginn.
We need Kwon to be amazing.
Otherwise Triantis, Newell, Campbell etc.
Well we know how our season usually goes with these guys.
Soo uninspiring. Kensell out.
I take it you've not watched Rudi play then? Fits your description entirely of who you'd want us to sign. Id prefer to give him a starting place though agree another similar signing ( as shown by interest in mccowan) is needed

Yes, you think you’ve seen it all with Hibs, yet every year there’s something new. Year after year of mediocrity and a constant laughing stock
There was a fair amount of encouragement amongst the fanbase for our pursuit of McCowan.

Good news is Youan hasn't left this window,
Is it good news that we’ve held onto someone who has made it absolutely plain that he doesn’t want to be here?
If he remains - as it appears he will be forced to - then that’s arguably the biggest failure of the window.

They have indeed. It's a positive that we were prepared to spend big on a quality addition in an area of the team that badly needs improved. However, to pursue McCowan for the whole window only to lose out and not have a fall back option is naive and makes us look a bit silly
i won't be the only one not in the slightest bit surprised we didn't appear to have a plan B, i said earlier there's bound to be a 500K midfielder somewhere on planet earth we could have also been talking to, i for one am glad we didn't fork out that huge amount for a guy that isn't even an international
mind you though maybe he soon will be now

£800k+ for McCowan was daft money for us to pay.
On reflection it looks like the increased bids today from Hibs was desperation as each one was rejected.

We’ve been played here big style and looks like we’ll be playing for the remainder of this year with the glaring missing link in midfield. Never mind, we can stick with a midfield combo which includes Newell and Campbell, I mean it has to come good eventually😂[/QUOTE
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see Dundee’s game here. They kept us on a tight lead in order to up the price, knowing that Celtic were almost certainly coming in with an offer. It was in their interest to encourage us to keep going back. In the event of Celtic reneging, they would get the best price possible from us. Our guys were obviously too dumb to see the tactics and swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

Does anyone know what Calvin Charlton's role is in recruitment these days?
After several summers of mass signings, many of which have failed to make a positive impact, it feels odd from an ops perspective for club officials to be highlighting the quantity of signings made?

Celtic have signed one midfielder and were in for the lad from the MLS up until yesterday and then they decided it was getting too pricey. They weren't after McCowan until yesterday/today. All so they can help a quota and he spends majority of the time on the bench.

Agreed but good squad depth, an upgrade on the likes of Iwata, kwon etc who would have been there previously. Plays a lot like callum mcgregor.
This was not happening. McCowan was average, made exactly 0 passes that were 70 yards, and was woeful for Hibs 2nd goal.
