The exact opposite of what we need, perfect.
We definitely need a new first choice keeper, and a goalkeeping coach.

All the people moaning about slicker not having ‘first team appearances/experience’ have to remember the boy played week in week out for Man City’s youth team before he joined Ipswich, which is one of the best academy’s. He was playing in Premier league 2 where they won it on a couple of occasions I believe, whilst also playing alongside no other than CJ Egan Riley who btw also had barely any first team appearances but looked like one of our best players when he signed. Also played regularly in the eufa youth league against some of the very best academies in the world. And is Scotland U21’s number one. So he definitely has ‘experience’.
He’s no even in the door and folk are writing him off ffs.

Or we're going with Wollacott as number one and bringing a young Scotland u21 in as back up? Story could be mince as well I suppose.
But, like you I'm guessing, I was hoping we'd be going for a new, experienced number one.
Jojo has shown multiple times that he is no where near good enough to be our first choice. If he is trusted with the gloves then we are in quite serious trouble.

That's disappointing. I must admit I've never seen the guy play, so know nothing about him. Just curious, then, what it is that makes him the opposite of what we need?

I wouldn't right him off though I'd like to see us get a fairly settled team and had hoped we'd have got a keeper like the St Johnstone one or the one Killie had maybe permanently rather than one on loan .
Every summer there seems to be a big rebuild of our squad with 4 , 5 or 6 players on loan going back to the parent clubs . Flip side of this though is we wouldn't get players of the calibre of Maolida , Fish etc .
I'd imagine the Ipswich keeper would be a good signing though.

Tbf if there is any support that would know about owners pocketing cash and running away itbwould be those ****wits. Did he mention if our share issue was cash only, no debit or credit cards, no bank transfers either. No certificates issued and someone taking the cash away in a suitcase. After all that's what all big clubs do. Moron!

IMO of course, but he’s inexperienced, 21 years old and played about 5 games.
We’ve a really good young keeper in Murray Johnson who needs to go out on loan to play games.
If Slicker comes in it cannot be as number 1. It’s an absolutely key position where imo, we need experienced and proven quality.

I noticed a couple of people mentioned Hill and I'd say it's highly unlikely to happen. We've lost Kelly on a free transfer this summer which would make Hill one of the four central defenders in the first team squad, and there are also rumours that Mepham wants out as well.
He won't start ahead of Zabarnyi or Senesi but over the course of the season he'd get enough minutes that it would make sense for him to stay.

Can you see anyone heading out way in the summer? Any news on signings who may go straight out to another club in the network.

With the arrival of Paulsen, we have loads of keepers so I'd expect at least one to move on, either on loan or permanently. So if you want a keeper then get your manager to give us a call!
Apart from that, the rumour mill has been quite quiet so far giving no hints as to who else might arrive.

He’ll be a replacement for McGovern as their 3rd choice for Europe and likely never play. Like when we signed Mitchell or Boruc.

We can't have a scattergun approach, that has not served us well. We need to sign the right people, and have strength of purpose in pursuing this approach. We need a quality spine, Scott McKenna would fit the bill in defence and be a statement of intent, a fit Ryan Jack would add great experience. I would like to see Greg Docherty signed and a mobile forward, but they are like hen's teeth. The big challenge is reducing the playing staff and that maybe a waiting game. We should not be signing a plethora of loan players.

Not having a go at you but it's probably on par with players like McClelland, Harbottle , Henderson and Kenneh coming good for us .
McKenna we have no chance with so we should just forget that one .
Docherty probably will be looking for another big wage down south or further a field .
Maybe Jack might be looking to go down south too though apart from being a Hun I think . If you could see him at hertz then we should be asking the question too! .
Definitely the type of player we've been needing for a good while who would improve our midfield greatly .
I see were the other poster is coming from to a degree , with everything that's happened last season a marquee signing would certainly lift the fans spirits even more ..

I'm not writing him off I just think its a case of minimizing risk. Yes he may turn out to be the next best thing but I think we need a proven quality goalkeeper with experience at a senior level. Yes all hugs singings come with an element of risk but surely the goalkeeper needs to be proven at a decent senior level.

He won't be that inclined to return to Scotland to a team - as it stands - that's inferior to the one he left.
And Derby and Portsmouth would be well capable of offering more money than us as well - newly promoted in a minted league.

Absolutely agree.
We need 4/5/6 players to come in and start.
They need to be of a significant quality level.
GK.
CB x 2.
CM x2.
CF/winger/Myzianne (not happening).
If we brought high quality players in to these positions, they would make a massive difference to our team, provided we keep the players we have now.
Here’s hoping we can do it.
The rest of the business should be concentrating on getting rid of the deadwood/supplementing the squad with a few loans here and there.

If we only sign 2 centre backs, that would just leave us with three for the season.
I agree with thr general point though, it’s not a squad we need to build in this window, it’s a starting 11 and not every position is needed.

He will work on strengthening the Football Operations Department on the performance side, working directly to support the Sporting Director and First Team operation.
During his playing career, Marshall completed a Master’s degree in Sports Directorship whilst also joining the Board of the Hibernian Community Foundation and is now eager to put that experience to good use. ‘

It’s scary the wages we’re paying out to players who clearly will play no part in helping us get to where we need to be. Some of the summer budget may well have to be invested in getting shot of a good number of them, or at the very least, loaned out again.

So many crap players still under contract on the list.
Laughable how many players we have who contribute 0 and aren’t good enough for the club.
Many probably laughing their heads up getting a wage from Hibs.
We have wasted so much money on dross last few years.

He would certainly improve us . Another one that I thought looked decent against us was their striker Adama Sidibeh . His pace is frightening , apparently Swansea linked with him . He also scored on his debut for Gambia.
So based on that list and assuming we need minimum 6 arguably 8 new recruits we need to shift about 12 players.
I went down the retain list and came up with 10 without any difficulty but the issue will be they won’t be moved on easily in some cases.
Are the club going to recruit before they sell (risky strategy) or need to lose before the bring in each time.

Looking at the retained list. Wow. We need about 6-8 players minimum to challenge for 3rd. Not young laddies either. Starting, proven players with quality.
Priority - 1 Goalkeeper. 2 (if not 3) Centre Backs. 1 Central Midfielder. A number 10. Left sided winger. Striker to partner/challenge Vente.
That’s 7 players. In an ideal world I’d get a new left back in to challenge Obita also.
New Keeper
Miller/Cadden ? ? Obita
NMW Newell
Boyle ? ?

I do feel for SDG much in the same way I did for Monty - that’s a squad with the potential to get any manager sacked and a team relegated.
A honking defence, a midfield that doesn’t work together, strikers who couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo, inconsistent, poor attitude. Lots of dross and little quality.
A rightfully inpatient fan base who have been promised European football and a shoddily run system.

If we get one very good, and 1 decent centre back, we'll be fine. A solid keeper.

There’s 10 lost out of the 12 you ask for which is about the correct amount IMO. If loose Cadden or Miller as 3 RBs is too much, and at least one of Boyle or Youan will go so that’s us up to 12.

Except he gives far more balance when he plays and is only injured because LJ nailed him.
He’ll be a good returnee this coming season, like a new player as they say.
JDH is poor.
I can remember one game where I thought “aye he was good” against ross county when he scored a double.
Apart from that there’s never been a game where I’ve though “this boys a player”
As mediocre as it gets

JDH seems to become a better player for every growing month he remains injured. Sideways passes, little impact and someone I wanted moved on well before his latest spell out.
I really do hope he can get fit soon. He is a young lad with a career ahead of him. I just honestly dont think he is better than what we already have.
He should go for a fresh start elsewhere. I'm guessing he must be on a decent contract though, as he wasn't keen to go when forest green came in for him a year ago.
He won't be the only one difficult to move on...

His best appearances imo are against the old firm when he presses and wins the ball back really well and plays with an intensity.
Or again when he comes on as a sub and injected some pace and passed it forward.
It seemed like every game he started though against the rest of the league he struggled to put his foot on the ball or play with the same intensity

Usually picks up an early card and finds himself walking a tightrope
I like him but understand why others don’t
Neat tidy footballer likes to press and moves the ball forward
Needs to channel his aggression
Criminal that he has been out for a season thanks to a crazy tackle in Training from David Brent
Will be like a new signing but the rest is up to him

Gray isn’t even in the door yet, not even had interview with press etc.
Can we all just chill out? Plenty of time to panic, let’s see what happens over next few weeks first?
I think the problem is we've had this what feels like every summer.
We seem to be in transition every year, with a squad full of average to poor players, and a new manager that needs time.
Unfortunately you don't get much time in football. We have pre season along soon, with our first proper game in mid July - just over a month away.
Players need time to gel, the manager needs time to work with them and get his style and tactics across.

I really hope we don’t have to suffer numerous players on the above list playing getting starts / minutes in meaningless preseason games. The forum then debates if they should get another chance etc . Very easy to look better when opponents are of a lesser standard.
The likes of
Henderson
Tavares
Kennah
Mckirdy
All have had numerous chances and no where near good enough.
I really hope gray doesn’t need to see them again, this is not the time for any last chances, they have come and gone over the last two years imo.

Whilst I agree with you on this your last paragraph might not be that easy. Players on decent wages, under contract and may not get similar elsewhere.
Hoping MM can wheel and deal and move them out either permanently or a loan.
I also hope SDG doesn’t come out with the old cliche ‘clean slate’ for everyone. (Don’t think he will) He will know who is needing moved on.

I dunno, I think the games Henderson and Kenneh had whilst out on loan will have generated interest from other parties. It will also have gave them the feeling of playing most weeks and they’ll likely be unhappy going back to a bit part player at best.
The issue could be the amount we pay them and if they would get close to that elsewhere.
I think a loan for them 2 would be easy enough if we can’t move them on permanently

Much appreciated SK 👍.
Everyone's got there own opinion on who should be moved on / kept .
Ones I'd definitely like to move on are ..
Mackay.
Kenneh .
McClelland.
Harbottle.
Delferriere.
Tavares .
Maybes .
Mckirdy.
Boruc .
JDH.
Levitt.
Wollacott.
There's 8 young players on the list that could probably go out on loan again to help in there development.
I think that's about 14 with 5 maybes that could potentially leave one way or the other .
Problem is if we don't get anyone to take them it would be a costly process in paying them off which I don't think we will do alot off .

There are always teams willing to take players. Don’t think that’ll be an issue, the issue will be players not wanting to leave cause of the wage we have them on.

Hopefully the lure a hypothetical 3 year deal elsewhere might be more tempting for them to accept than running down their final year here only to then find themselves struggling for a club due to lack of game time or an injury.
I’d also imagine that a little bit negotiation goes on in the background and we meet then somewhere near the middle regarding the money lost by lower wages over the next year.

I think this is a fair comment, some of these guys will be able to find a club I'm sure and a longer deal elsewhere, plus signing on fee will lubricate their passages from the club.
Lewis Miller (Hibs have option to extend to 2026)-worth persisting with.
Martin Boyle (Hibs have option to extend to 2026)-stay please (i hae ma doubts that eh will).
Luke Amos (Hibs have option to extend to 2026)-who knows, but I fear that he will be another injury prone dud.
Kyle McClelland (Hibs have option to extend to 2026)- Scottish championship or league 1 seems to be his level, please depart. He can't be on big money anyway.
Jake Doyle Hayes-time to go JDH, find yourself a club and a two year deal.
Joe Newell-I can see Newell going. Please do not extend the contract Hibs
Chris Cadden-happy to see Cadden go, he is neither fish nor fowl and will be on good money.
Ewan Henderson-I suspect Ewan will have enough confidence in his ability to take a chance and find out if he is better than the Belgian second tier (it won't be Ostend though, they were relegated to the third tier)
Harry McKirdy- maybe needs to be nearer family etc, another loan deal maybe.
Nohan Kenneh-needs encouraged to depart, another loan deal beckons
Max Boruc-who knows why he was even signed.
Daniel MacKay-loan deal, if we're lucky
Rocky Bushiri-it would be in everyone's interest if Rocky was to find another club. I can see him going.
Dylan Tait-No words, except what a waste of money- who's going to take him off our hands?

I think defence has to be priority, a stand out center back coming in to back line of
Obita, Rocky and Cadden
I also think this seaaon is Rockys final chance to prove himself at hibs.
Midfield
I think moriah Welsh, Campbell and Newell is actually a pretty solid midfield
Forwards
Boyle, Youan, Alf, Maolida all potentially away.
Think this has to be our other priority for obvious reasons.
Also think this will be Ventes last chance at hibs and like Rocky is definitely capable of becoming a big player for us.

I know a few of the boys from some of the podcast were hoping we could push the boat out for Liam Cooper. I see he's in talks with Leeds about signings a new contract.
If that's the case unless we find clubs that are willing to take them permanently or on loan I don't see us paying them all off which could prove to be expensive.
For 2025ers, it’s not really more expensive to pay them off. If we’re due them 100k in wages to the end of their contract, then assuming we paid them off after 1st of July (new financial year for the club) then it would come out of next years budget whether we pay them weekly or in one lump sum.
That’s before we consider if they would accept a smaller sum to leave now, and potentially get another contract elsewhere, essentially double dipping. And, if any were to get injured, we could be looking at possible medical bills to pay too
That all said, I don’t think we’d pay all of them off, maybe one or 2

What would be the point in fully paying them off though?
Surely it would make more sense to keep them and hope a team comes in for them at some point thus saving partial wages. Or Loaning out and getting some wages back. There is no logic to just paying players off completely.

Oh it’s not something I want to happen, just what I suspect will happen. My thoughts are that having the player either loaned out, reducing our wage bill, or still in the squad, where they may be of use in some way is better than just paying them off.
I was more responding to the point that it’s more expensive to pay them off, I was saying it’s not really.
Being brutally honest, a player signs a contract with a club. I don’t blame a player for that, or expecting to be paid. If it turns out the player is below the standards expected at the club, that’s not the player’s fault, it’s the club for offering them a contract.

Can you train with a new team before registration takes effect? What about insurance cover etc?

Depends on the individual situation, but yes, it happens.

Yes, the registration referred to is with the local football association.
The “transfer” in this context is the transfer of the players registration from one association to another.

Those in the know will have a better idea than me, but I got the impression that SDG was involved in a bit of 1 to 1 coaching with Campbell and others who I can't quite remember. He was getting credited with Campbell's goal scoring.
It would be interesting to know who else he has done this work with and if he sees these guys as part of the team moving forward.

Glentoran and Coleraine after McLellend
Never realised he got player of the year. Must admit when I saw him pre season when he first joined I was really impressed, never seemed to really kick on though and think a lot of opinions changed after the Falkirk game

He’s an excellent player and only 21. Part of the Aberdeen midfield which dominated ours in the last meeting at Easter Road.

I’ve always rated him. Good on the ball, plays with intensity and gets stuck in.
A lot of my Aberdeen supporting mates don’t rate him as highly as me though, albeit their opinions seems to vastly change on him when he rejected a new contract.
Think he’ll be a good and cheap signing for rangers.

Was he? He’s started 7 games against Hibs and Aberdeen only lost 1 of those. The game they lost he was subbed off while the score was 0-0 and his removal helped turn the game in our favour.

Fair enough a number of games he has been very quiet. Never kicked a ball in the semi. As i say like him as a player.

What would be the point in fully paying them off though?
Surely it would make more sense to keep them and hope a team comes in for them at some point thus saving partial wages. Or Loaning out and getting some wages back. There is no logic to just paying players off completely.
It would be if we can negotiate a payment less than they are contracted for, which, if they get another contract elsewhere even for less money, could still leave them relatively similar financially …
.. and we then have lessened our payments due for the length of their contract, and can amalgamate that over a few pay offs, to bring in a fewer number of hopefully better quality.
Simples 😉

If you take that most (but hopefully not all) of the BK investment covers debt’s and infrastructure, I see so reason why the entire 2.2 million shouldn’t be immediately available to sort out the first team.

None of their players play for Hibs that I can see. That leaves them offering player(s) to the club or we have made an enquiry worth their time.
Surely agents don’t just tour every clubs training ground when the players aren’t just on their break for the hell of it.

Would make sense for clubs and agents to have a good working relationship.

It’s worrying how many players that we have on a decent wage that we will need to shift. McKirdy, Delferriere, Kenneh, Vente, Henderson, Rocky, Mackay, Jair, Levitt, and I’m quite sure I’m missing a fair few.
I’d be genuinely relieved if we start going after players we could consider to be the cheap option as if it means we’re no longer spending big money on players who either aren’t suited to the league or just not good enough then we’re on the right track.

Hibs don’t have the money some people think according to Ian Murray - as he opened up on being linked with the club.
A former captain at Easter Road, Murray has won plaudits for his work at Raith Rovers. He narrowly missed out on promotion through the play-offs after a good season in the Championship, and he was linked with becoming the next head coach at Hibs

We will need every penny of 3 mil if we are going to lose a near 30 goal forward line and even then it won't be easy to replace players of the quality of Youan and Boyle .
I can't say I blame Shrewsbury , really poor player with a questionable attitude . Trying to find a club for these type of players won't be easy .
