You’re missing the point. Newell wouldn’t be a starter 5-6 years ago, yet he’s now seen as the best midfielder at the club.

It's the getting our signings right and it taking a bit longer part that concerns me because our recent history is that we both take a good bit longer and get the signings wrong.

We've lots of new faces now doing whatever they are doing. There's only one test of whether this is coherent and sensible and that is getting the right players in and in good time for the competitions we have a realistic chance in. The clock's ticking...

He then became a central midfielder. Tacking is not a strong part of his game hence why playing him as a 2 in central midfield had disaster written all over it.

Alan Nixon gets quite a lot right, admittedly not about Hibs so far though.

I’d maybe be similarly relaxed if we still had Maolida but that’s an awful lot of goals to be losing from a team that still wasn’t good enough.

There are also still quite a few question marks over some of the players we’d expect to be starting - the defensive attributes of our fullbacks, Vente’s ability to get goals in this team and Newell’s ability to turn up every week.

That’s before you get onto the much needed recruitment from a club whose recruitment in recent years has been far from stellar.

I remember watching a game years ago with another Hibs fan where Rocky made 3 or 4 really good saves in . When it came to his kicking , he either put the ball out or give it to the opposition.

I questioned this and the other hibby said if he was good at everything we wouldn't have him .

The club should be circulating all clubs with players’ availability, and putting just as much effort into moving the dross on as it should be on signing new players.

It’s nothing short of pathetic the state we’re in as to the quality of the squad, and how limiting it is on the new coach as he tries to build a team to “compete for third”, which was a stated aim of the Board with the BK investment, that we’ve seen scant evidence of so far.

Some accountability at Board level would be nice, but we’ll probably wait as long on that as we will do waiting for a core of 5/6 permanent players to be brought in, which everyone can see is what we need except Kensell, Gordon and co.

I was 100% convinced it would be one of those two as our #1 next season but I’m not disappointed by this move. Looks decent enough on paper.

Not disagreeing with what you are saying but the legacy at play part is not the fault of the fans. We seem to be accepting that we could possibly have to wait a year to get a decent team on the park. There should be not one penny more spent on infrastructure until we get in decent players. Millions have been spent on hospitality while we have no money apparently to spend on players. Crucial positions need to be filled with quality and experience mainly goalie and defence. I’m not unhappy about the goalie we have just signed as he must have something about him to start 50 championship games but we need at least two decent centre halves experienced and are quality. Another mediocre season will push me over the edge 😂. Anyway let’s hope we get the players in the fans deserve GGTTH

I get your point however first choice keeper for Stoke isn’t necessarily falling away entirely. They play at a higher level than us. He then signed for a really good team where it’s obviously not worked out, in part due to injury by the sounds of it.

That’s my only reservation about the move. Much prefer a loan to have an option to buy, especially loan moves made in the summer. Big fan of continuity and we we’ll be after a new #1 next season probably. One season at a time for now I suppose and on the face of it I think he’ll be an upgrade form the season past.

Not to take too much from a 3 minute interview but the boy clearly wants to be playing first team football. Hopefully helps matters in the potential situation that we want to sign him next summer.

Liked his interview where he said he pushed for loans as a youngster to get game time and that’s what got him into England 21s and Stoke first team.

Sounds like he has plenty minutes games under his belt

Hopefully he will seize his chance to be no 1, reading that his grandad was Czech war hero and his dad died in 2022. I might have wanted a more experienced goalie around 30 but I know Hibs are in a difficult position, having so many players we can't move on till the end of the season....

That’s my only reservation about the move. Much prefer a loan to have an option to buy, especially loan moves made in the summer. Big fan of continuity and we we’ll be after a new #1 next season probably. One season at a time for now I suppose and on the face of it I think he’ll be an upgrade form the season past.

I'd have preferred a option to buy in the deal too . I think the team needs some continuity , been to many changes over the last couple of seasons with loan signings being a part of that problem.

Though on the flipside of that we probably wouldn't have got players like Maolida , Fish etc without it .

Looking at the signing of Bursik positively , hopefully we have strengthened an area that we needed to with a decent keeper .

Having had a wee think about this I'm fairly happy with this signing. Has a good pedigree, played loads in the Championship, on loan so if he's pish we can get shot easily and not really playing for his parent club so shouldn't be too hard to get on a perm. A decent start.


Same here. Wasn’t so sure when first heard the news but having had a think it may actually be a good move. Also he looks red hot in the video someone posted above, but of course you can never quite tell from videos!

Sorry, I meant he wasn’t a signing to get you excited. Remember lots of people mentioning we had signed him from Burton Albion and a bit of negativity.

I can see the arguments or points for and against Bursik.

I think the points against him though are because of how the club has been lately as opposed to him personally. People are at a stage where we don’t want risk and we want as close to a sure thing as we can for success. Some Stoke fans moaned about him not saving many shots or winning them points. He’s also just back from a bad knee injury and then there’s the other point that he’s on loan.

The points for him is by the age of 22 he had played over 50 games for Stoke in the championship - compared that to Mitov and Dennis for example before this season who played real lower leagues in England. He was also part of the England 21’s that won the World Cup. He also had a really good couple of loan spells, one of which he helped won promotion to championship with Peterborough. A lot of the Stoke fans seem to be of the opinion that he could be sold for millions in the future and it was more he lost confidence at Stoke and not a lack of ability, Scott Parker having knowledge of him and sign in him for Brugge probably backs this up.

Hopefully he finds home with us, gets some confidence and shows us all why he was so highly rated.

I think this is a good analysis. Fwiw I think he sounds like he's got an impressive pedigree and his age doesn't bother me too much as he's played a good number of games at a level higher than the SPL.

My only gripe is that he's a loan. I accept we'll get a few guys on loan this summer but I just hope we can nail down most of the team, or at least in keys areaa, on contracts to give us some continuity and certainty. In an ideal world GK is a position I'd have preferred someone on a 3 year deal but if he's a quality player then that's the main thing.

I know Hibs normally prefer loans with options to buy, i am sure RG said so himself on one of the Podcasts a couple of years ago. If this deal doesn't include that it will be because his current club think he is a player and want to give him a chance to develop or we just couldn't afford the number quoted.
