Seen the league fixture lists are out I think we have been dealt a fair hand. I only hope we can play it well, we have.

STM (A) Celtic (H) Dundee (H) Killie (A) STJ (H)

With STM and Killie in Europe hopefully we can take advantage early on but we really need to get a few more in soon

Not to sign permanently.

This could really work to our advantage if we play our part by not being crap. They wouldn’t be the first teams playing in Europe to have a slow start to the season and they aren’t going to have the squad depth of other clubs.

Not to sign permanently.

No but a player of that calibre on a season long loan would be great.

A permanent signing around the 750k mark (I.e Vente) isn’t unrealistic and could also be great.

I've seen some posts on here saying, 'let's forget about the last couple of years' 'it's done now we need to move on'. This is easier said than done for some, particularly those of us who have witnessed ineptitude recently.

The complete mess in the way the club has been run and organised in trying to get a decent team on the park in last few years has led to a great deal of suspicion and ingrained apathy in loads of Hibs supporters. Proof of this is shown in a lot of posts in the last couple of days, even when new signings are announced.

This isn't going to change anytime between now and when we get well into the start of next season. I reckon most of the signings are going to be met with a fair amount of derision.

The fanfare of the Black Knights deal led to increased optimism in the Hibs support. Maybe this will come to fruition, but I've not seen any evidence of this yet.

Much as the first two signings are uninspiring, I do feel there is more sensible planning and some dross has already been shipped out. However, I've held off buying a season ticket until I actually see a tangible improvement on the park. My mindset will not change until I see this and I will pick and choose when I want to watch Hibs.

Isn’t it the case that all Hibs fans have witnessed this, or just the people who agree with you?

Hibs Central has said SDG and MM have had positive talks with someone who is keen to join Hibs.

I’m also hung like a horse and have a date with Kelly Brook tonight.

Both the above are proof that you can say anything on the internet.

Anyone think Gray would try bring Triantis back permanently?

Found it interesting he started him centre mid both games ahead of Levitt and NMW.

Only as a centre mid however - think he showed real promise in that position both on the ball and defensively. Just turned 21 too.

I think he will try for him and hope he does.

Brought a good presence to the midfield sitting in front of the back four.

Triantis wasn’t the worst player I’ve ever seen, not even close, but I dinnae have any great hope about bringing him back. He’s a centre half who was only put in midfield because he didn’t look any good at the back.

That's maybe why he got his chance there in the first place but he got repeated chances there because he actually did well there - better than a good few "midfielders" managed to do.

I wouldn't be against him coming back and tbh I think he'd be a first pick in midfield if he did. Not sure I'd be banging Sunderland's door down for him though and I thought he was actually a pretty poor centre half so would have no interest in seeing him come to play there.

If we get Amos fit then we've no need for Triantis.

Would rather we focused on a creative midfielder rather than someone to sit in front of the back 4. I think we've already got enough options there.

From what we've seen of the two so far - I'd take Triantis over Amos based on performances.

And I suspect there will always be question marks over Amos' injury proneness.

From what we've seen of the two so far - I'd take Triantis over Amos based on performances.

And I suspect there will always be question marks over Amos' injury proneness.

Amos with a full preseason behind him should be fine, so unless he gets another serious injury, going to be positive about him.... hoping he doesn't end up like Kieran Tierney, which can keep happening to certain players ...

I think this is becoming a bit of a myth. We’re not very far away at all from having a squad that’s ready to go. With the lad Marvin from Blackpool expected to be announced in the next few days we will have a full defence, with the core of it consisting of 3 new signing at CB and GK, our player of the year at LB and 3 decent right backs. That’s before factoring in Bevan which is probably still expected.

We have Campell, NMH, Newell and Amos in the centre of midfield and Boyle and Youan on the sides, with Vente up front.

It’s lacking depth on the wings and up front but the first 11 is close to sorted, all be it with room for improvement and I’m sure we’re far from done in the market.

Youan will probably leave but for the time being he’s a Hibs player and the money we make from him will more than cover a replacement.

If big Marv signs before heading of to the Netherlands then that's great business, allowing the new GK and 2 new CB's learn each others game.

Still to go, as a minimum, assuming Marv signs:

GK if we sell Wallacott
Bevan

At least 1 wide attacker
2 forwards

Still to go, as a minimum, assuming Marv signs:

GK if we sell Wallacott
Bevan
Left Back
Attacking Midfielder
At least 1 wide attacker
2 forwards

A midfielder who can tackle.

This is probably correct all though I could see the 2 forwards only being 1, which of course leaves us very short if we get an injury. The LB can be a younger prospect as long as they are good enough for some light game time and step up if Obita gets injured or suspended.

The wide midfielder is the key one IMO. Maolida and Youan contributed a lot of goals and assists. I expect Vente to step up a notch but this signing is key!

I could maybe accept us only signing one striker this window if it's Simon Murray. I'd like to see us sign more players like him who have proved they are decent in the SPL, rather than an endless stream of English lower league players who are an unknown quantity at SPL level, and usually don't work out for us.

RWB: Cadden / Miller / Whittaker
CM: Moriah-Welsh / Campbell
DM: TBC / Amos

I still think that our marquee signing will come via the BK group, in the mould of Emiliano Marcondes but hopefully with a better outcome.

The team is taking shape though. That’s the defence pretty much sorted and not a penny spent in transfer fees or anyone from the BKs which definitely suggests exiting moves further up the pitch IMO.

Having money to spend doesn’t mean it should be spent for the sake of it and the transfer budget is still there :)

I think we will see Bevan which gives us 5 CBs and 3 RBs on the books so only a second choice left back still likely to come, and probably a bit more a prospect or a loan.

No signing is a guaranteed success but if your look at where Marvin and O’Hora are at in their careers compared to Rocky and Harbottle when they signed it really is night and day. Two former club captains both around prime age vs two untested youth prospects. I think we might have nailed it.

Few comments there about him not being great on the ball. Might sound like I’m looking for negatives but I’m not, I actually think it’s refreshing we are wanting defenders who defend. I'm delighted with these arrivals as well.

They just seem to make a bit more sense than so much of what we've done in recent years?

Experience I like at centre half.

The "19 year old on loan" has taken a bit of a slaughtering on here in recent years but only because we've had too many of them. Having a few 19 year olds on loan to compete for places as wide forwards I'm all in favour of.

Centre half should preferably be a bit more sensible though - exactly as Hibs have done.

Somebody probably deserves some credit...

Two big physical CBs is the defensive formula you need in the SPFL, a bit basic but that's the league we play in. If they turn out to have other attributes to offer so much the better!

Similar to another poster the comments about Marvin not being good on the ball may be a plus. I'm hoping SDG sees a solid base as first job needing done. Our best attacking players, like Boyle and Youan, do far better when we get them the ball as the other team is getting into position. Ten sideways passes from Centre Halves that are "good on the ball" is about the last thing we need. SDG can make us instantly better by playing quicker and at a higher intensity with strong leaders that set an example. That looks to be the direction he is heading and heading is what he is most famous for.

Sideways passing is not the same as being good on the ball. They are referring to players who have the ability the come out of defence and start forward movements. Sounds like we have one of them and one who can launch. Should keep most happy.

Then sorting out what happens with youan, then a couple of strikers and we’re good to go.

I think we need a left back for cover, left winger, a no 10 and a striker (preferably with presence and height) - then it’s a balanced squad.

I like hearing Marv saying he actually likes defending.

Think that’s disappearing alot with modern day centre halves, all of them want to be the creator.

Let a centre half defend and then give the ball to someone who is good with it.

I agree, hearing him say he loves defending, and that he’s aggressive in both boxes, I’m actually quite excited to see him and O’Hora playing together.

We don’t need to have every defender be an amazing passer, just capable of winning a ball and giving it quickly, effectively and safely to midfield and wingers, which reading the comments of the Blackpool forum and a few posters on here, Marv is more than capable of

There is a lot to be said for having a recognised first choice CB partnership and a keeper, all in at Day One, to build a rapport

I'll show my age here but there was a lot of success built on McAlpine, Hegarty Narey and Leighton Miller McLeish as the bedrock for some successful non-OF teams

Thinking to more recent Hibs vintages Colgan Fenwick Sauzee Smith, and [Logan] Hanlon McGregor Fontaine - you can build a midfield and forward line on those foundations

Not saying this to put any pressure on the new boys, but just to compliment David Gray, Malky Mackay and all those at Hibs who have [at last] addressed this area of the team that needed surgery since Jack Ross / pre-pandemic.

Personally think a Lennon Miller would be the guy to splash the serious cash on, to transform us in possession in the midfield, and to help feed the forwards

Big Marv sounds like exactly the sort of CH we have been missing. A unit who can't be bullied, with a bit of pace as well, a guy who actually likes defending. The fact Blackpool fans seem pretty unanimous in being sorry to lose him can't be bad either.

O'Hora: Apparently more of a ball player, but has experience as well. Perhaps being part of an 8 - 1 aggregate loss in a playoff tie isn't the best barometer of the guy's abilities. I watched Crawley v Crew in the final and Crawley were by far the better footballing team, they moved the ball really well.

Whatever, we at last seem to be taking a pragmatic approach to sorting out a problem area. We still need a nasty, horrible, ball winning midfielder and one who can pick a forward pass. Chuck in a tall centre forward ... something we need IMO ... and we will be near enough good to go. OK, perhaps another winger, definitely if Youan or Boyle leave.

Reading an article in the Dundee Courier where Docherty's mentioned both Ryan Jack and Simon Murray.

Jacks a player I've totally disliked over the years , probably because apart from playing for that lot he's good player , hard and can be abit dirty in some of his tackling .

Really think he would improve our midfield and again a Gray type player.

I suppose alot of you would like to see Murray at Hibs too :greengrin

Ryan Jack is a decent player, especially at this level.

If we signed him I’d fully expect him to be injured more often than not though.

You cannae guarantee a player will stay fit, but you can look at their history and take an educated guess. We made a mistake with Magennis, we must’ve known what we were getting with Amos.

I’d definitely pass on Ryan Jack.

He can't pass to save his life but other than that he was a fans favourite here and our loss is your gain. Look after him and you will reap the rewards. On the subject of strikers, I've seen some on here suggestion that we will be going 3 at the back, which would probably be a 3-5-2 unless it's an attacking 3-4-3.

If we do decide that plan A will be a 3-5-2 then it does leave us light for players in that position, Boyle can play there but who knows what his future is.

Leaves us with Vente and a couple of youngsters if both Boyle and Youan leave.

We've got no chance, he'll go for high 6, low 7 figures.

Then folk will complain we didn't show any interest despite him being out of our price.

He’s 26, not exactly a hot youth prospect. His next move is probably is last chance of a big one

Are we expecting new players to play tomorrow in 1st friendly ?

Like others have said, there's no evidence that these new CHs are going to relegate Rocky to the bench. I rate Bushiri, he's still young enough to develop under a better defensive coach.

There was one time when Shankland rabbit punched Rocky in the throat leading to a goal. Other than that (which wasn't a mistake) I can't recall any actual howlers last season.

He’s almost 25 year old and he’s got little to no football ability. Can’t pass the ball better than a league 2 centre defender.

I’m not sure.

He’s 27 in December, this is his standout year by a mile and he’s out of contract next season.

I’m not sure how much Dundee would get for him or be able to say no to.

This is what I like to read

We got Emiliano and Myziane on-loan last season. If we can get the core right then sprinkle a bit of that over it, it bodes well."

David Gray lifts the lid on what Hibs need from the summer transfer window

It really isn’t that difficult. Finally someone that is going to try and do the obvious things by the looks of it.

Wonder if Myziane is still an option

Ekpitita signed

Hope the lad doesn’t get the same grief that MacKay received at the outset:

Not sure why you have dug this out other than to make everyone aware of it?

Think he was 16 when it happened. Old enough to know better.. but still a laddie.

Excellent start with most of the spine now in place.

Would like another really solid central midfielder, and some real creativity in there as well.

Could also do with another option up front as a foil for Vente. Appreciate that playing with 2 strikers are not "fashionable" these days, but we cant just rely on one all season.

Was 10 years ago the guy publicly apologised profusely at the time we move on

Heard he was happy to sign for us but was unhappy that Monty got sacked so toss a coin for this

Would have thought that his salary would be miles out of range for Hibs tbh.

Could well be but might be prepared to play for similar money to what the top earners are on.
