''can'' doesn't mean they will. I'd wager neither will ever play in a top 3 Hibs side.
No but I’d rather have players that have the potential too then aging ones that have let us down that are on the decline.

So other than Bevan who's been linked with us, is there any other Bournemouth or even possibly Lorient players who could possibly end up here on loan?
Only ones from Bournemouth I can see as a possibility are Gavin Kilkenny and James Hill [emoji2369] Not sure about Lorient players don’t know their squad but will have a look.

James Hill would be class and improve us, On the bench the first two games of the season for them.
No idea about Kilkenny, but looks like a player that’ll never play for them if they stay in the Premier League, so maybe a permanent or a loan with an option to buy if we go for him.

So you'd rather have poor players who might improve over good ones who wont? I disagree but thats fair.

Peter Lawwell getting grief at the St Mirren game today due to lack of cash being spent at Celtic after raking it in. Would £1m on McCowan please them? Dundee fans still confident that's where he's heading.

Start the season unbelievably, sign a striker for 9 million and still moan about squad depth etc

especially when it’s clear they’ll likely sign a sought after young player (10m ish?) and probably at least 1 more when o’reilly goes

I think it’s clear we have no unanimously agreed upon good midfielders if you take Kwon out of it at the moment. But I’d start by trying to sign one and boot out the worst ones first.
Huge week for the club.
Feels like our season will be determined by getting the sort of quality McCowan would bring and the need to do something with the defence.
All quiet on Youan front. Seemed almost certain he was leaving but if not and he doesn’t throw the toys out the pram he can contribute hugely. If he does go we need another attacking player, ideally winger.

I think it’ll be a busy week, both in and out. It’s bonkers that we’re in to the last week of the window and talking about it potentially defining our season, despite having already signed 11 players. We just never, ever, seem to give ourselves a fair crack at it.

Kilkenny was one I could see being linked, he's 24 looks like another Central Midfield player.
Not sure how many minutes he's had but at 24 it looks like he's made 53 appearances although at a decent level.

Little chance he is going to sign for someone else if he is not fit to play. I mean, who on earth would sign players not fit to play. Hold on now.:greengrin

Have seen 2 or 3 posters claim McCowan has either signed or is about to. I have no idea whether this is the case.
What I would say is if we haven't agreed anything with Dundee yet, and yesterday's game was surely the ideal time to do so then we need to think about Plans B and C, whoever they might be, as we won't be able to get someone potentially if we don't leave the selling club time to replace him.

Said on the pm board last night and more than happy to repeat it again. I’ve never claimed to be ITK but I’ve been told from someone from the first team squad. No reason to doubt it will happen but he’s never told me anything about signings before despite being here for a good few years.
Por example we’ve made a signing already this summer that he’d have absolutely known was happening and he didn’t breath a word about it to me. Which arraises my suspicions as to why he’s told me about this one

I want us to sign McCowan but quite possibly breaking our transfer record to do so does make me a bit nervous. I think he’ll do well, but well enough to justify the type of fee we’re looking at is a different question.
What I will say is there is loads of talk about next year and big changes then. But there’s been big enough changes this summer as it is, I don’t think the turnaround next season is going to be anything particularly out of the ordinary given we’ve already managed to get a number out of the door this year (with more to probably follow by the end of the week). And we’ve already got 9 in which will probably rise to 11 or 12 by the end of the week I’d guess.

I think thats just the way football is these days. When you look at the amount of signings teams make, then its not uncommon for between 6 and 12 new players every summer. I dont think we are unusual in that.

Kwon should in theory be that player for us this season. But I do share some of your concerns on McCowan. I don’t think he’s necessarily going to be the cure to all our problems people think he is. I mean if any of our midfielders put the powderpuff attempt he did to stop Bowie for our second goal there would be a 5 page thread on them.

He is not a cure all but he would certainly improve the defensive side of our midfield as our current players inability to tackle has been a big issue. He won as many tackles on Saturday as our midfield 3 combined. So far this season he has made the 7th most tackles in the league, 3rd highest amongst midfielders.
I’ve rewatched the Bowie goal, he wasn’t McCowan’s man - he comes over to help out his team mate but Bowie is strong and ahead of him so already has an advantage over LM, it’s not a 50/50 situation. I mean if Bowie had been dispossessed in that situation there would be a 5 page thread on him.

Love a reset and another transition season.
It’s how they should advertise season tickets and match day tickets.
Aberdeen showing exactly what a manager and some decent players in can achieve in a short space of time.
We desperately need a new number 1 - would give me hope they know what they are doing and can make ruthless changes even if Bursik was promised number 1 jersey.

We could be looking at 6 or 7 out this week with maybe 3 or 4 in which would probably be our busiest window since they were introduced.
We can argue about the individual players all day but we certainly can't accuse the club of not trying to shake things up.
I will go for the following;
Out (loan or permanent)
Rocky, Delferierre, Kenneh, Jair, JDH, McKirdy, Youan and possibly Levitt.
In
McCowan or similar style of player, a number 10, a centre half and a striker.
We shall see.

This season is basically a work in progress. We're not going to shift a lot of the fringe players on because we're paying them handsomely on long contracts.
Gray has to be given a bit of time to implement his approach and refresh the squad.
Can't just be having a transitional period every season with the same players getting the "clean slate" treatment.

Aberdeen haven't had to play Celtic twice. They've played St Johnstone and two teams burdened with European fixtures - Killie, in particular, are struggling with the workload.
They are having a good run with a favourable set of fixtures. Good for them. But that is it. I don't see it is as big a stick to beat hubs with as some do.

We also played St Mirren after Europe and lost 3-0 !
Killie this weekend after Europe and 3 games in a week..let’s see how that goes - an away win would be a massive boost. Lose and we are bottom of the table.
Aberdeen will be top 6 - recruited well enough and got the Mivoski money too which obviously they have used to sign some players like Nisbet who didn’t play yesterday.
So basically 3 spaces let to fill the top 6 between the rest. That’s why these head to head games against Dundee / St Mirren etc are so important.

I don't buy into this big reset next year or next year needing to be another transitional season (though likely will be as they all end up that way).
We've had a big reset already. 29 players moved out between first and development team. Loads of fringe players/deadwood moved out.
More pointedly, we've brought 9 in so far. If that isn't enough to reset a team what would be - plus there is clearly going to be more incoming.
The big question is will this reset be successful? They've gone with Bursik backed up by Smith, Ekpiteta & O'Hora new centre back pairing and an injured Hoilett. This needing to wait until next season is a premeditated excuse to cover their backs if they get it wrong again.
There is more deadwood to clear - sure, what squad isn't carrying excess, always going to be a couple out if favour.
Still, by the end of the window expect some of Kenneh, Delf, Tavares, McKirdy, Amos to be moved on. JDH won't be going anywhere injured.
Don't believe the needing to wait until next year tag line - we reset now, whether that is successful or not is the question - no more excuses

Transfermrkt has us with 17 players out of contract at the end of this season including loan players. This can't be totally accurate as has Newell and Megwa out of contract.
If we don't offload them this window then they leave next season if we don't renew their contracts.
Assuming we may still get another couple of loans this window.

UPDATE: Celtic have made a £6.5m bid for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels.
It’s understood the 20-year-old is keen to join the Scottish champions.
Engels is one of Celtic’s top targets to replace Matt O’Riley, who is set to join Brighton in a deal worth £30m.

Transfermrkt has us with 17 players out of contract at the end of this season including loan players. This can't be totally accurate as has Newell and Megwa out of contract.
If we don't offload them this window then they leave next season if we don't renew their contracts.
Assuming we may still get another couple of loans this window.
There will be another huge churn of players next summer.
McKirdy, Amos, JDH and Kenneh are the main ones. Still absolutely bamboozled by the Delf contract extension cause I’m sure he would have been one as well.
Still another year of Jair though.

I was at the match and I agree entirely with what you suggest, but also he would not wish to injure Bowie - who you will recall brushed Carter- Vickers aside in the Celtic match.
Another, perhaps relevant point, in the TV match highlights, it looks like Gray clearly was bemused or annoyed by a remark made by Docherty as they shook hands.

I’m surrounded by St Mirren fans and the two current Hibs players they really rate are Newell and Youan. It may be because they play well against St Mirren - Youan certainly did last season. They also forever thank me for letting them have Gogic, while admitting his flaws. He could been a decent CB for us. Perhaps I should stop now, before losing any credibility I have left! 🙊

We could be looking at 6 or 7 out this week with maybe 3 or 4 in which would probably be our busiest window since they were introduced.
We can argue about the individual players all day but we certainly can't accuse the club of not trying to shake things up.
I will go for the following;
Out (loan or permanent)
Rocky, Delferierre, Kenneh, Jair, JDH, McKirdy, Youan and possibly Levitt.
In
McCowan or similar style of player, a number 10, a centre half and a striker.
We shall see.
I agree that the evidence points to the club doing as much as it can to address the situation, we're at nine in already and I would be surprised if there's fewer than three still to come in and I think there will be lots moved out if we are able to get destinations for them.
My biggest concern at the moment is whether, after such a shake up, we've ended up better or worse - it's not been a stellar start so far but at the same time, we've had to go up against Celtic twice, and everyone and their aunty has been talking up Dundee this season and I thought they were lucky to leave with a point yesterday, so it might not be as bad as it feels.
Guess time will tell!

If it wasn’t for the St Mirren result I would’ve been more positive. Think Celtics result against them at the weekend puts things in perspective. We’ve been unfortunate to play them twice back to back.
By all accounts we should’ve been out of sight against St Mirren too but the defence still makes me worried.
A result against Kilmarnock would certainly leave me more optimistic.

We have made some really, really basic mistakes in the games which is a big problem, but they're not mistakes that you'd expect players at our level - in fact, even going down a couple of levels you would expect better - so they're probably going to stop - if you saw the third goal Hearts conceded yesterday, it was as bad as anything we've conceded this season, so it does happen - we've just made it a bit of a habit in the last few games.
I am conscious that I don't want to dismiss concerns because of the start we've had, particularly because St Mirren and Dundee should really be teams that we are looking to take full points from (despite history showing we very rarely do this), but the respective starting points for the teams reflect that they weren't easy ties at all.
He's here!

Apart from the keeper, who i think is very poor, I'm more concerned about the players we already had last season.
Both full backs are poor, neither can defend, and Miller is no John Brownlie going forward.
Newel is just Newell, Campbell can barely control a ball or pass it properly, yet all 4 have been involved every game and seem to be mainstays of the team.
Couple that with bringing in so many players at once, it's no surprise there's little cohesion in our play just now.

Bursik - Been very poor, decent enough shot stopper but looks panic stations when under pressure or ball at feet. We need another keeper in asap and I would send boruc out on loan.
Smith- not seen enough yet but strange signing. Hardly played 1st team football last few years. Couldn't even get a game at Stockport last season. He will likely be 3rd choice going forward
O'Hora - Until Saturday until Saturday had been reasonably solid but hugely at fault for Dundees equaliser. I think he will continue to be 1st choice centre back
Ekpiteta - Not been a good start. Did ok Saturday and wasn't at fault for any goals but hardly a ringing endorsement. Perhaps getting up to speed of Scottish game but would prefer we got another CB and he can provide competition off the bench.
Nicky Cadden - Not seen enough yet. Did ok Saturday. Time will tell
Hoillett - No minutes yet but I think he will improve us and will likely start over Rudi when fit
Myko - Done ok, good goal at celtic but still dosent look match sharp. Him and Bowie will be 1st choice forwards but I would like someone else in to provide competition.
Bowie - From his limited minutes so far looks a class act. Likely to be our main striker for the next few years.
Kwon - Did well Saturday and think will bolster our midfield and provide CBs some cover but we need some attacking midfielders in also
In short we need another 1st choice GK and CB in. Couple CMs and a back up striker minimum. We also look light at LB and RB if Miller or Obita were injured then we could be in trouble but other areas need prioritised 1st

One thing is fans' opinions of what we still need and what we are likely to get. We've signed nearly a whole new team already. If the new players are not good enough that's going to be on the recruitment team and up to the coaches to get the best out of what we've got. I'd be surprised if more than one or two come in this week. Probably loans unless we can get McGowan.

From what I'm aware Dundees owner met with Kensell/Malky on Saturday after the game. Kensell wanting an answer on the 3rd bid which I believe has been accepted and a contract has been offered to McCowan which he is considering. No guarantees he will accept it however.

Joe Newell divides opinion because most fans have seen that Joe has ability - his problem is his consistency. Sometimes I feel that is because he has had to carry the midfield all on his own and other times he loses focus/desire but think he has lots of attributes - I also think he has bought into the club.
If we sign McCowan and with Kwon there is no excuse for Newell not performing and we can see the best of him more consistently.

I hope Hibs have put a firm deadline on the offer. Don't want McCowan hanging about waiting until the last minute, turning us down and us not having time to get a deal done for an alternative.

You'd think if it was done Dundee would be anxious to get the money in and look for replacement given a week left for them. Or maybe that's the ploy of their Board to leave it late in the day so less pressure to spend
I hope Hibs are firm about getting an answer one way or the other early this week so we can move on to other targets. Don't want us to be let down at the last minute and then have to go into the first half of the season with the current midfield.

David Brooks can't get a look in just now 2 years left on his contract and valued at 8m . Think he was on loan at Southampton who got promoted last season so could see him at a similar type club.

People who watched him a lot more than me always said he was brilliant so I’m happy to accept I’m wrong with this one but he’s someone I never really got. Every time I saw him I thought he looked quite lazy and disinterested. Of course he scored a decent number of goals, as you’d expect a competent striker at Celtic to do but he isn’t one I ever got the hype about.

Given Dykes isn't a 'proper' Scot, doubt he'd have any urge to come up here unless it was to one of those two.
If Dundee have any confidence at all they can keep McCowan - or want interest from elsewhere to jack the price us - they'd be a bit daft to sell him as early as the 26th.

The vast majority of Mixu's goals were in Scotland. Dykes has played his best years in the English Championship so the standard is higher making a direct comparison difficult.

I'm not saying he's not necessarily a better player, just you can't use a goals to game ratio to compare players when they play in different leagues with different standards.
Mixu was more of a penalty box striker, Dykes is more mobile and runs the channels. Big Mixu was great but I think Dykes would be a good signing for anyone in Scotland outside Celtic.

The Dundee Central in Twitter ( Dundee version of Hibs Central 😂) is still sticking to his guns that McCowan won't be coming to Hibs

The fat Jambo on the Radio Scotland news saying that Celtic are still very actively interested in McCowan. If that’s true, I can’t see them signing him as a starter. He would have to decide between part time involvement in club football with a very lucrative wage or full time, possible club captain status with a not to be sneezed at wage. The guys on here saying it’s a done deal are way off the mark, it would appear.

There wouldn’t be any choice to make, if the Celtic interest is true we are ****ed.

I'm not having the Celtic actively pursuing bit - if they wanted him they'd already have him. The fee being quoted is petty cash for them and if the statements in the press from Brendan Rodgers are true it appears that he's already pissed off at the Celtic board for taking so long to get business done. This article is a clear warning shot to them IMHO. https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cj6291ey2n4o

Or a life changing wage coupled with a belief in himself that he can break into their team.
The plus coming to us for him I think is that if he does, and proves himself a cut above here, then he will likely gain access to an even more life changing wage down south. Depends how he sees it perhaps, and that’s not in our sole control. That’s assuming celtic interest rumours are genuine of course … maybe they are trying to make sure a McGinn situation doesn’t re-occur, for the sake of a paltry £1m in their eyes. Shame if so, and I hope if that’s the case, he sees through it and comes to us and smashes it like he could, then move on to better things. The old firm aren’t the end of the tunnel for smart thinking players. We will see soon though …

Watching Shankland attempting to run yesterday he's only got about another season in him at this level. Nobody is spending big money on him.
Shankland started the exact same last season and scored 30 goals.
I have no doubt in mind he’ll be racking them up in no time, probably just in time for coming to ER.

I tend to agree. If Celtic want him then he'll be heading for Parkhead. It sounds like all our eggs are in the one basket on this one as we haven't heard of any similar alternatives. Personally I think O'Hara at Saints would be good.

I would rather he done it for any other Scottish club, as much as that wouldn’t be great either. But then Hearts won’t sit on the money if he did go … I’m not sure though if folk saying he won’t be bought is because they are “itk”, or just looking at his slow start (which as you say, can change).

I keep hearing that but did he really? I thought he scored a few early doors, it's 0 in 5 appearance for him this season.

Celtic will get McCowan on deadline day if one of their other moves falls through.
Pretty indifferent to the whole thing now.

What does actively interested even mean?
They are absolutely loaded - if they want him, they sign him
Are they just sending a text now and again. Saying "thinking of you...."

I'd be amazed really when the gulf is so visible and we keep hearing about it if Celtic were to go there.
I just hope everyday I'm going to log on here and see a new signing, anyone. Because we still have so much to do.

I’m a massive fan of McCowan and really hope we get him
But I’m now fearing some will have unrealistic expectations on him due to fee and hype/how much we want him and been chasing him.
The fee whilst alot for us, is not alot in the grand scheme of things.

He didn’t though he had scored 5 goals by the end of August last year.

He scored in their first league game and first two European games last season so is already 3 goals down. He also scored in their first League Cup Game so I would say he started the season very well last year

Sammy Braybrooke 🏴
Dundee are rumoured to be interested in signing the former England U19s captain ©️
Braybrooke is highly rated at Leicester City having played for the first team in the League Cup.🏆
Braybrooke has been a first team squad member at Leicester City for several years, regularly training with the likes of James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Wilfried Ndidi over the years 👥️
The midfielder is said to be defensively minded whilst also very effective as a set-piece taker 🧐
He has been nicknamed "Modric" by former Leicester City teammate Caglar Soyuncu & nicknamed "Leicester Iniesta" by teammates in the England youth set-up. 🗣
In February 2023, the youngster suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury and was out for a long period of time - he has been back in full training since last spring 💪🏻
Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has described him as "an outstanding player". 👔
