Sammy Braybrooke 🏴
Dundee are rumoured to be interested in signing the former England U19s captain ©️
Braybrooke is highly rated at Leicester City having played for the first team in the League Cup.🏆
Braybrooke has been a first team squad member at Leicester City for several years, regularly training with the likes of James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Wilfried Ndidi over the years 👥️
The midfielder is said to be defensively minded whilst also very effective as a set-piece taker 🧐
He has been nicknamed "Modric" by former Leicester City teammate Caglar Soyuncu & nicknamed "Leicester Iniesta" by teammates in the England youth set-up. 🗣
In February 2023, the youngster suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury and was out for a long period of time - he has been back in full training since last spring 💪🏻
Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has described him as "an outstanding player". 👔
Nicknamed “ Modric “ and the “ Leicester Iniesta “ is some compliment.
Maybe if Dundee sign a midfielder or two we might get McCowan 🤞.
Rumour Owen Becks to Blackburn too .
Thanks for that 👍

Decent thread on twitter by a Celtic fan as to why McCowan to Celtic could make sense, especially for European football.

He scored 1 league goal in the first 8 games.
He had scored 3 in Europe, his 1 league goal and a league cup goal by the end of August, so he had scored 5, but he did have a slow start in the league.

So I'm going to guess we'll sign McCowan (or plan B), Bevan and a young striker this week. I'll also guess Youan will leave and a few out on loan (Kenneh, JDH and Delf minimum). That would leave us with;
GK;
Bursik
Smith
Boruc (development)
Defenders;
Obita
O'Hora
Ekpiteta
Rocky
Bevan
Miller
Megwa
C. Cadden
Midfielders;
Kwon
Newell
McCowan (or plan B)
Campbell
Amos
Levitt
Molotnikov
N. Cadden
Moriah-Welsh
Forwards;
Myko
Bowie
Boyle
McKirdy
Hoilett
Jair
New forward option
Big squad that and still a fair few I'd like to sell/loan out. Rocky, Levitt, Jair, McKirdy and Amos for sure.

Genuinely terrifying how much dross is still in that squad. I think we just need to batten down the hatches this season and embrace damage limitation mode. Try and avoid getting sucked into the play offs and next summer when the majority of these contracts expire the rebuild can begin proper. The recruitment team have a lot to answer for for the state of that squad

Genuinely terrifying... really? Guess you're not a fan of scary movies haha. I do wish as fans we'd remember that the club have stated their intention to improve the quality and move fringe players on, whilst acknowledging it's not always easy. Mistakes have been made with some extended contracts etc but I do wish folk would stop raking up the past and recognise what the club are trying to do in the present and future...

Absolutely. I suppose most squads have these players as well though, nobody has 26 contributing players.

Funny how people remember things differently. I was really disappointed when Adam Jackson returned south for family reasons. He was secure like Daz at the back but fearlessly bulleted in headers at the other end like Porto would subsequently do. That's the way I remember him. I thought he was a big loss. He was the only one of the English players Hecky brought who got up to Premiership pace immediately, faster than Newell and less said about Vela the better. But maybe my memory plays me false.

Hope = 3 players in, 3 players moved on
Reality = Bevan in, McKirdy out on loan.
I've seen too many transfers windows before. The club will make an eleventh hour final play for McCowan and then trot out some hard luck story. McKirdy leaving will be one of those ones that happen in the wee small hours as he goes to Solihull Moors or Aldershot on loan.

As it stands right now there are just five players in that squad I'd be keen to keep. None of them is a goalkeeper. The rest are either proven meh or we've yet to find out what they've got.
As a defence to the slow and largely unimpressive transfer window we have had so far some posters on here have been implying a big end to the window throughout the period since it opened. I hope they are right but I fear this is a Fringe show we've all seen many times before that's well past its sell-by date when it wasn't even that good the first time...

Celtic will just wait and chuck him a contract in January. If they sign him it’ll be as a squad filler. Won’t get a sniff of a start.
They’ll have young players they could use to fill out the homegrown champions league quota. They’d have the same chance as getting minutes in Europe as McCowan would.

Judging by the calibre of players being discussed for Celtic just now means there is virtually no chance their fans would accept McCowan.

I was pleasantly surprised we managed a draw on Saturday So green shoots to build on v Killie But we really can’t afford to loose against them and go into break bottom of league
Biggest disappointment for me is we prioritised the defence and yet we are still shipping goals and conceding late goals This suggests so far recruitment hasn’t been good enough
Hanlon and Stevenson were deemed not good enough They have been moved on but we look so fragile
We really need three quality players in minimum Squad fillers are no use ,we have loads already
I remain hopeful if we do that then the break gives gray time to get everyone up to speed and hopefully know his best 16 and how best and when to deploy subs

I think McCowan makes a huge amount of sense for Celtic.
If they go out and sign the more expensive players they’re being linked with, they’ll obviously be first choice. Mccowan then becomes a relatively inexpensive option that knows the league should any of those guys not settle/flop/get injured. If they do settle, then they could probably sell McCowan next summer for the same amount they’d pay for him this summer.
He’d even just be a good option to keep them ticking along domestically while they rotate out some of their bigger names after European games etc.

16 goals and 11 assists last season. Not too shabby. No idea what kind of player he is to be honest.

Sure he was the player I thought was outstanding against us for William II in a preseason match in Portugal.
Ran the show that day and did very good at being in the right place at the right time. Sure he was an England under 21 player and started at Arsenal.
Not sure how he’s developed since then but if we got the player that played against us that day I’d be more than happy

So do I, but on the other hand, does Celtic make a huge amount of sense for McCowan? At 26, he’s at or approaching the peak of his career and will want to be playing every week. He knows that he will not start any games, unless in the unlikely event of them hitting a really bad spell. If it’s purely about money, he’s theirs.

He makes no sense at all for Celtic no money to be made on him

Money I suppose. From a football point of view it probably doesn’t make that much sense for him, but he’d likely be happy to trade playing every week to be walking out with £500k-£1m a year compared to about £100k now.

I only watched about 30 seconds of that video and turned it off as the defending for the 1st 4 or 5 goals was absolutely shocking. Despite what the average English punter thinks the SPL is significantly higher standard than league 2. If this lad is the back up option for McCowan then I will be extremely disappointed.
Need I remind folk that McKirdy and Harbottle were signed from league 2.

Looking at their squad and youth squad I see very few I think would actually improve us. Dennis is about the only one. Either players who are already too good for us or youngsters with pretty much zero first team experience.
Think Lorient probably have more players that fit the profile of what we could get that would still improve us.

Can't get excited about signings now. It's like after a night of heavy drinking, there's 10 minutes before the music stops and the lights go up in the disco and if you leave with someone now, you know you'll both regret it in the morning if not within the next 5 minutes.
Agreed, Harry?
If McCowan signs, fine. That panto - does the prince love Cinderella or is he going to succumb to the temptations of one of the Ugly Sisters - has dragged on long enough and there have been no laughs. If he's a lost cause, we've no shortage of players so let's save our money. Let's just coach them better and aim for top 6 with what we've got. We're not trying to re-create Man City, just a team which is hard to beat. That's the fundamental state we should aim for, being the hardest team to score against. We will inevitably score a few ourselves. Then when we have the ability to clean out the lockers next summer let's use what we have saved now for someone we really desire. We don't need League 2 signings. They will not prosper.

We need a new number 1 - if we don’t we will continue to leak goals.
We actually need another CB too but I think if we get a better keeper than Bursik the centre backs will improve.
I’ve watched enough football and goalkeepers to know a solid keeper - unfortunately we haven’t signed that in either keepers.
This is development or youth football waiting weeks for a player to develop and improve - we need an improvement now. Even Conrad Logan came in and made saves and the rest is history.

Crowley looks like a player, if that's an available option, I'd suggest we get all over that.
You have to wonder, with the timing of this rumour, it might suggest Crowley is the plan B for McCowan - but it's interesting to see a couple posters say it's a done deal that end.
If we could get both in, alongside a centre half, and maybe another goalie (Bevan & Dennis perhaps), that would be as good a window as I can recently remember - it'd be at the very least an indication that Gray is getting financially backed.
I suspect, in order to achieve anything close to the above, there will need to be 2-3 players leaving between now and the window closing.

He is apparently a Celtic fan , maybe he was hoping they would/ might still make a move . There’s always a danger some English club will come in for him late in the window too .
If nobody comes in I wonder might he just sit tight at Dundee and take a chance something better than us happens in January for him rather then doubling or tripling his wages while getting a decent signing on fee now.

Dundee were always going to take as long as they wanted over this.
They have a player they want to get the most ££ for.
The question is - has a deadline been set or are we just waiting / hoping no one comes in with a bigger bid / better contract.
You would think Hibs and Dundee don’t want to leave little time for replacement / plan B etc.
Hibs desperately need more energy and pace into the team - watching the X clip today of Scott Brown assisting Sproule at Ibrox in the 3-0 win. It was frightening how quick we played on counter attack for the goal.

Tbh I would not be surprised at that. From what I've been told he's been offered a contract and is considering it. With the shambles at boardroom and management level we have seen at the club in the last few years it's no surprise despite the obvious stature/financial benefits players will see coming to us as a risk.

The problem with that is if he continues to show himself to be completely out his depth, as he done in his 50 English Championship appearances where Stoke fans said he was murder.
Not signing a new goalkeeper this window could put us in a position where top 6 is highly doubtful by the time January rolls round. It’s not a gamble we should be taking imo.

Personally think we’ve already waited too long. I’m over McCowan now anyway, I’m a Daniel Crowley man.
I agree, although he’d be a good signing, if it’s not a done deal we should be walking away

The problem with that is if he continues to show himself to be completely out his depth.
Not signing a new goalkeeper this window could put us in a position where top 6 is highly doubtful by the time January rolls round. It’s not a gamble we should be taking imo.
Sadly, I agree. Bursik is here and so I want him to do well but I don't think we can afford to take the chance. And, as I pointed out somewhere else, he's only a loanee so if we do well enough to achieve that lofty goal of European football we will be scrambling around to find a replacement and get him in sync with his defence right around the time we're in the European qualifiers. That's a terrible situation and reeks of inadequate thought going into planning.

Hibs should tell Dundee to forget it,fed up waiting day in/day out to get an answer, time to move on.
Hibs need to have a plan B, so we’re not forced to pay much more than we want or worse still end up with no one. SDG might as well start negotiating his severance if this is the midfield he’s left with.

People said the same about Josh vela. Let’s get someone that’s proven in this league or league further a field than English league 2 players. It’s not like the couple of centre halfs look like they have improved us

I've not long since finished watching the same clip, and it blew me away a bit.
Sproule rightly gets the main plaudits but Scott Brown's contribution to a couple of the goals is phenomenal - the pace with which he carries the ball, then the actuall quality of the final pass when travelling at pace is incredible.
If you compare it to one time on Sunday - Bursik bowls it out to Boyle who tanks down the right side. In fairness to Boyle, he's still possibly the only player we have who is able to travel at pace like that. At the end of the move though, without even looking he plays a very poor ball in, and the rest of the team have had neither the energy nor the desire to be anywhere near the play. The vast of the majority of them were still more than half the pitch away. It was a fairly pitiful spectacle, and miles of what was actually required.
So I'd agree heartily with the bit in bold.

I also have said this with our 4-2-3-1
2 defensive midfielders means less players in the box.
Happened a few times with crosses - only a few Hibs players - max 2 or 3 even close - sometimes 1.
8 players behind the ball isn’t going to win you many games.

I’ve never really liked Hibs playing it.
It normally flounders around not having anyone who can do justice to the central striker role - imo we’ve only ever had Chris Killen, Leigh Griffiths and Myko who can do it.
Trying to get 2 central strikers into a team brings other problems though, which I accept.

I know that St Mirren’s record sale is John McGinn to us after all the clauses are rotted up - more than they got for Ian Ferguson from Rangers (£750k - £850k iirc).
£750k up front then hypothetical add ons could make it a big one?

Celtic prioritising Engels and Bogusz. McCowan the backup option if those deals don’t materialise. Would also fill a home grown slot in the Champions League squad registration. Lots of moving parts and will go right to the deadline.

The lad Celtic have upped their offer for has apparently agreed terms and wants to join them and is now a case of the clubs agreeing a fee .

On the positive side there's been no news from the Club that they have exhausted all options and are now looking at alternatives to McCowan.
And even if we are, or ever are, at that stage they’re pretty unlikely to ever actually say so.

I see Efe Ambrose is still playing, now 35 has just signed for Workington in the Northern Premier League

I think the few saying he’s ER bound are wishfully speculating and the one on P&B about a club record fee is spouting nonsense. Why would Celtic pay £1.6M when Dundee would bite their hand off for less than £1M. If it were true, it must be from, say, an English Championship club.

What is the purpose of these games out of interest.
Qualifiers of some sort? Friendlies?
It’s another way into World Cup 2026 qualification

Strikers not that hot either. And it lacks a genuine superstar player.

Based on his game time already, Bowie is a better option than most of our strikers 😁

I think it’s mad the way ALF managed to convince some people he was worth keeping.
Did basically nowt 90% of the time.
That's just *****. He improved the team when he came on. Vente was a waste of space not Le Fondre.

I think we probably have. We just haven’t announced it and neither have Dundee as they’ll be thinking it will keep any others offers as high as possible.

Folk saying “move on” without any idea where we are at with it. Maybe we’ve already moved on. Maybe a fee has been agreed. Maybe the signing is done but we are waiting to announce it.
Nobody on here knows

I think if we had given up on him we would let it be known through friendly media thus making Dundee sweat if nobody else wants him at the price.

What is our biggest transfer? De La Cruz?

On what basis do you think he isn't bothered about coming to Hibs?
I find the whole Celtic thing weird. we signed a player on loan from them a few days after playing them and apparently Mackay and Rodgers went out for a meal after that game. You'd assume McCowan would've came up in the discussion, considering it was public we were after him, if Celtic were also keen on him.

Hibs never made it public,it was the media, hibs in my experience, never tell anything until it’s done and dusted ,I’ll wait till I see a player wearing the jersey ,and holds the scarf above his head ,then sings sunshine on leith.

Scott Brown no?
That’s received.
Think £700k for de la Cruz is most we’ve paid. Might be wrong though about fee but in that region

Le Fondre was very good when fit. Thought he was one of LJ's best signings. We just didn't see enough of him.
He had a lovely touch and the way he set up that Vente header in the European tie was sublime.

Brown on departures, although we must have got a decent chunk of add ons for Fletcher
De La Cruz our more expensive purchase

Wages will be up there guessing 10k a week so some outlay

I wasn’t sure as couldn’t find what we paid for him anywhere. High six figures is all I can find?

Tbh no one knows what’s happening and I’m quite chilled about it and think it will happen. (Not itk) I can understand folks frustrations.
As others have mentioned I don’t think it helped we played them at weekend.
It is a big outlay but if he turns up on the pitch every week it’ll be more than worth it and I think he will.

Record is over £2.25m Rab Douglas to Celtic
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dundee-fc/rekordabgaenge/verein/511/saison_id//pos//detailpos/0/w_s//plus/1
The record was €2.25m Euro's not £2.25m Sterling I couldn't find a historical currency convertor, but some posters were saying £1.6m which will probably be about right

I think they are Nation League games
In all of the years I've been on this forum there's been two posters who I believed had a source for inside knowledge and neither of them are currently posting.
There are a number of posters on the forum that I followed but many of them no longer post on here at all.

Dundee have signed the boy on loan from Leicester that I don't believe they would have done if McCowan was not going to be moving. If Celtic were/are interested then I think they would have had the deal done by now or there would have been enough noise in the press that they were negotiating with Dundee.
Am not saying that he won't go to Celtic but think we are not out of it (yet).
It may be that Dundee have someone in addition lined up that will be announced tomorrow and have asked Hibs to hold off on announcing until they are ready to share their second signing.
As someone else said, no one, not even Jambo McLaughlin really knows where we are at at this stage.

Were Vente and Youan not both around the 700k mark?
