I could live without McCowan if we signed 2 centre halfs and a
Left back.
We’re crying out for a big aggressive brute at the back. Not Rocky, someone less clumsy who makes less mistakes. And they need to be a big leader/ organiser to stop all these lapses in concentration.

The latest EEN article today quotes gray as saying areas we might do bussiness in and saying there may be outgoings .
But didn’t sound like anything imminent and no mention of the Dundee player So if that one was dead in the water you would think he would say we have now moved onto other targets
So looks like Friday could be a busy day with ins and outs
this is from EEN
Gray, who still expects to be offered other valuable targets from within Foley’s network of clubs, hopes Hibs will be busy before Friday. As well as chasing a central defender to augment the trio of Warren O’Hora, Marvin Ekpiteta and Rocky Bushiri, Hibs remain open to suggestions when it comes to strengthening their options at centre forward and in central midfield – regardless of Dundee’s final decision on the £750,000 offer for Luke McCowan lodged earlier in the window.

Knows they’re about to be unveiled elsewhere then goes

That is a classic move of his, Clark Robertson a personal favourite of mine. He does get plenty things right though so could well be spot on with this.

A third bid being having been rejected wouldn’t be a surprise but I’d want conformation from another source

Princes St is a disgrace. Filthy, with what was left of the retail experience eaten up by the St James Quarter. They should turn it into residential properties, pavement cafes and restaurants and make the most of the spectacular view.
I agree completely was just talking to a friend last week and we both suggested your solution. Pavement cafes would be great

I can understand if there’s a sort of stand off with the McCowan deal but if we’re really going to bring in a few more (who knows), why is it all got to be last minute and possibly another game gone without new recruits bedding in. We can’t possibly be in the same last chance saloon with everyone we’re trying to bring in, can we?
Edit: that’s a bit of a rhetorical question really because we obviously must be. 😂

The weeds everywhere, the state of the roundabouts and grass verges all over the city, the quality of the roads. Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed the deterioration over the last few years. There is no pride being taken in the appearance of the city these days. I go to Fife a lot and the difference is night and day. There was an even sharper contrast when I was in Ireland at the weekend. It’s my pet peeve just now. Maybe doesn’t bother some people but it gets my goat.

Hardly means Edinburgh is a dump as you called it - and I very much doubt it would result in anyone preferring to live in ****ing Dundee or Fife for that matter 😂.
Don’t think McCowan is happening now and that’s a reflection on the state of Hibernian, not Edinburgh.

Hibs have brought in O'Hora and Expiteta, who were likely the recruitment teams' first choice. Both have already let Gray down with defensive mistakes which have cost us goals and points.
We have recruited a lot more very poor centre halfs than decent ones in recent years.
A couple of mistakes doesn’t make them very poor centre-halves. Show me any defender who hasn’t had a few bloopers. Give them a chance ffs.

Hibs thought that both would be do-able but either Dundee had a higher value on the player then we did, or the player wanted a higher wage than we felt appropriate.

Cameron would be a SJM type signing - top player and prospect- I’m bemused why we are directing resources for McCowan when there’s a far better player in their ranks and worth pursuing more. I definitely wouldn’t be paying the amount we’ve bid for Luke McCowan, sorry, he’s not that good. Cameron is.

No we don’t need 14 new players just a core of decent ones. Think the goalie and centre backs will be fine. Cadden provide decent left side cover. Bowie and Kuka are good quality. If Youan stays a positive for me. McCowan to me transforms the team as much for his attitude as his ability hope he signs. Kwon exactly the sort of player we need.

My point is I rate Cameron highly and he’s the player at their club I’d be targeting more than Luke McCowan
People used to say Mcgeogh was better than McGinn as well. McCowan is the right one to be going for.

If we sign anyone tomorrow does that automatically make them a panic buy?

Can you name any teams that won’t be trying to get someone in before the window slams? You’ve been pretty selective in the names you’ve highlighted who weren’t all end of window buys or failures.. Doesn’t matter when they are signed they all come with an element of risk…Especially in the market we’re shopping.
We don’t know what works been going on or for what length of time. Whether we wait to see if anyone pops up tmrw that was previously unattainable or whether our deal is the best on offer for a player to accept we’ve tracked for ages.
calling anyone we potentially sign tmrw a panic buy isn’t really setting them up for success.

If we're serious about trying to be in Europe next summer then in my view we don't want any loanee as keeper. We need our own man now solidifying a rapport with his defence throughout this season not trying to do it next pre-season.

I think a new keeper is the most important signing right now.
As much as the midfield need at least another 2 to improve us - a solid keeper will go a long way to make us better.
It would be a gutsy move but having watched the equaliser on Saturday again I’m actually amazed it wasn’t saved - better keeper saves it and we win 2-1 maybe (still wrong sub bringing Rocky on).

Agreed stop the source - but you could take it back to a decent keeper taking a goal kick and getting it into the other teams half - not putting it straight out under zero pressure and giving Dundee a throw in.
He had a chance to redeem himself with a save but his body shape was all wrong and it’s a goal.

I think it has been hugely over stated so far. He hasn’t been amazing. Hasn’t been terrible. The over analysis of every goal is draining.
Any new keeper will take time to settle. The keepers who are being talked about as replacements have had the same at their previous clubs.

IMO keepers should settle into a team far quicker than an outfield player. They don't have to learn a new system, how and when we press, learning the strength and weaknesses of teammates and when to cover, where they like to receive the ball ect.
A goalkeeper is very much a solo position and when it comes to shot stopping for instance it's the exact same requirement regardless of what team you play for.

I really don’t - I just think some folk are clueless on here and have no idea about the role of a GK and positioning / body shape and a keeper who can do the basics.
It’s not a position we need someone to take time to settle - we need a solid keeper who wins us games and points. Would actually just be happy if they make some saves. He’s played 7 games and can’t think of 1 save he’s made and I’ve thought that’s a good save that was going in. Correct me if I’m wrong ?

So you are saying you know more about his positioning and body shape than he does? Otherwise he’d be doing it right eh?
You think it is likely a guy who is 24, has England under 21 caps. Won a World Cup tournament and has over 100 senior appearances with over 50 of those in the Championship doesn’t know how to be a goalkeeper?

I think there are a few reasons he’s ended up at Hibs and not pushed on to a higher level. I’ve watched enough football and goalkeepers to understand a what a competent keeper looks like.
Let’s wait and see but I’m far from convinced so far and by the way I’m not saying get rid just think he’s more of a back up keeper.

Over that period there’s been an awful lot more “unacceptable” in our midfield.
I’m sure someone said over the past few days that we’ve won 5 of our last 24 league. A few of those wins will have had Triantis in midfield, which I think he improved. The win stats for a midfield without Triantis over last season and this are probably eye-wateringly poor.

I don’t really care about those things to be honest and I’m not claiming to know the technicalities of the position however I think he has looked absolutely dreadful so far and I don’t want to be relying on him possibly coming good. I want a keeper we can rely on now. His age has sort of been used as a defence for him so far but i don’t think it should be when it’s a short term loan agreement.

I really don’t mind criticism to be honest. It’s the constant same pish from the same folk over and over and over that’s bringing the debate and site down. It’s like they can’t wait to get stuck in. You don’t get that much from the less negative posters.

Funny the goalkeeper position is the one when there’s a mistake made gets highlighted far more than an outfield player, not saying bursik hasn’t made mistakes though the vast bulk of them so far has came from a outfield player and in some cases more than one.
A new keeper and two new centre half’s will probably need more time to adjust ….

I can’t believe that after signing two ‘starting’ centre halfs and two goalies the majority of us are still thinking we need a first choice number 1 and another centre half. Sums up how bad our recruitment has been in recent years, heads should roll

At this point it's not just whether we sign McCowan or not. It's if we don't get him who do we have lined up for a midfield that clearly needs strengthened before the window closes.
Not sure if mentioned, Joe Hodge (Wolves) loan to Huddersfield

I think the criticism of bursic is very valid. I know keepers will make mistakes and fine with that. The thing that worries me is he hasn't yet made one save where I have thought that's a good save. Anything slightly harder that routine has resulted in a goal. The majority of Stoke fans mentioned he never actually made many saves.
Rocky for example always had a mistake in him but he also often made world class saves which won us points. I just don't see that with Bursic.

I think it has been hugely over stated so far. He hasn’t been amazing. Hasn’t been terrible. The over analysis of every goal is draining.
Any new keeper will take time to settle. The keepers who are being talked about as replacements have had the same at their previous clubs.
I’d be amazed if we are considering another goalkeeper.
I'd say he has been terrible, he spreads panic whenever the ball goes near him, the last keeper we had that i felt this bad with was Makalamby.
He is a poor keeper that i have no faith in, and watching the team, i'm sure the defence feels the same.

If we're serious about trying to be in Europe next summer then in my view we don't want any loanee as keeper. We need our own man now solidifying a rapport with his defence throughout this season not trying to do it next pre-season.
I think when Malky said it’s going to take several transfer windows so sort the mess , it was a hint that Europe may well be beyond us this season
We are already well behind our rivals points wise so it’s going to take a few really good signings and luck with injuries to get us into Europe

I think he’s a good keeper. Lot of people overreacting saying he’s pants but look what his defence has been doing not exactly helping his case. When he’s been called upon he’s made some great saves in the Celtic games and couple good ones at the weekend there. Distribution has been good bar one or two kicks against Dundee, and at a stretch maybe could have done better for Simon Murray’s goal but it’s O’Hora and hat loses his man and lets him run through on goal not sure what else Bursik is supposed to do there. Wish we would just give him a chance, if you watch the games we’ve played back he’s actually not done that much wrong, and btw fact he’s being compared to Makalamby 3 games in is absolutely ridiculous.

If we're having discussions with a back up for McCowan then fair enough (I'd guess we are), if not it's a really risky game we're playing.
So McCowan and a defender going by that. Was hoping for more, not going to lie, but that would make 11 signings.

A lot of our defensive frailties come to either individual errors, lack of communication and organisation.
I wouldn’t say Killie, St Mirren or Dundee have brilliant defenders and tbh we’d probably turn our nose up at the majority.
Half the issue I think is getting our centre halves to split which means Ekpiteta is getting the ball so far right he’s uncomfortable and we’re so open when it breaks down.
If we do that tactic, we need to play a lot quicker and get in the opposition half.
I always feel like teams get in our half almost immediately whilst we seem to build up for an age and struggle to get in and play in their half.
A bit of structure goes a long long way in this league. Be solid and then guys like Hoilett, Youan, Myk, Bowie and Boyle can produce a moment of quality or magic

Worry with that for me is if there is a late bid or Dundee decide to keep him or he decides to stay where are we then ?
IMO keepers should settle into a team far quicker than an outfield player. They don't have to learn a new system, how and when we press, learning the strength and weaknesses of teammates and when to cover, where they like to receive the ball ect.
A goalkeeper is very much a solo position and when it comes to shot stopping for instance it's the exact same requirement regardless of what team you play for.
Actually they do have a lot to learn. If we press high then they need to know where to position themselves, or vice versa. That will also change depending on who’s in front of them, how quick they are, are they left/right footed so the keeper can make better angles for them when under pressure. They need to know which centre half’s are likely to attack a high ball versus want the keeper to come, and where that might change in the box. Is there a vocal leader amongst the defenders or is that something they’ll need to do more of. What are the key instructions and phrases that’s used amongst these players. Look at our 2 centre halfs at the moment, one is more comfortable on the ball than the other, so the keeper needs to know this, and be aware of how to give the ball to each, and how to best support them under pressure, again in terms of where and how to pass them the ball and to be make it easier to receive it. They need to know who are the players who’ll look to break from a corner, and where they’ll be positioned on the pitch at said corner in order to look to release the ball to them, and then how to get them the ball, do they prefer it over the top or into feet, can they shape the pass to make it easier to shield the ball from the opposition when it arrives.
There’ll be more than that, and also the keeper will want/need to put their needs across, what do they want from their defenders in certain situations, where do they want a back pass put to make it easier to clear first time, are they more likely to catch or punch a high ball, do they want breakaway attackers to hold at a certain point on the pitch as they can’t throw or kick the ball as accurately after that point.
It is a solo position, but I think there’s still a lot of learning to do for them

What happened to the LB who was supposed to be "close" to signing yesterday?

Gut instinct tells me that McCowan will get done tomorrow night. I'm not worried at all.

I think Dundee are waiting to see if Celtic will come in at the 11th hour with a bid to see if they can squeeze and extra fee quid out of the deal
Dundee need put back in their box. Unfortunately the powder puff players on Saturday couldn’t even do that.

They might even have an agreement with the player that if nothing better comes in they'll allow him to go to Hibs.

"Looking for Luke
There are only so many ways to say it. Hibs really, really, really like Luke McCowan. They’ve bid in the region of £750,000 for the Dundee captain. And they’re waiting for the Dens Park club to come back with a definitive yeah or nay."
I think if we really, really, really like McCowan we would have paid what Dundee want already. The fact we are still hanging on with a bid under what they want suggests we only really, really like him. :greengrin
