Think he was 16 when it happened. Old enough to know better.. but still a laddie.
16 ffs are we going to go through people's BEBOs before they are employed by the club to see if they have said anything wrong in their past. I'm sure it's enough for some to say they are boycotting mind you

Could well be but might be prepared to play for similar money to what the top earners are on.
Like 99% of players, he’ll play for any club willing to pay what he thinks he’s worth.

Funnily enough someone started tweeting about how unacceptable it was etc to have someone with views like that.
A Hibs fan (think it was JD Hibs) then went through said posters old tweets. You’d never believe what he found 🤣
The hypocrisy in some is unbelievable.

Would have thought that his salary would be miles out of range for Hibs tbh.
Correct. Zero chance of signing him permanently.

Solid start to the window. Experienced players, good age, and look like leaders too. Still think we need a ball winner in the middle of the pitch, along with a more creative type and another striker up top. If EY goes, we’ll need another left sided winger too.

He would be top earner without any doubt. Can’t see it happening at all unfortunately but would be the best permanent signing we’ve made since McGinn

It was me, although i do think he's better than what we had last season. Will clear the ball well and defend like a trojan and put his body on the line, quick too.
He's just not the best at bringing the ball out, not a problem for me, as i'm sick to death of us farting about with it at the back with players not good enough to do it.
Thanks for elaborating

Dundee fans reckoned they would get around £500k for him. When I say Dundee fans I mean the ones I have seen on line.
Ironically the same sort of money we paid for Keith, Keith, Keith from Dundeee over 30 years ago 🫶

The reality is we’ve spent nothing on players so far and there is a lot of more out than in. I don’t think it’s unreasonable that think we could sign some real quality (by SPL standards) now 🙏🏼

As you move forward in the team things become more expensive.
So it's great bring in defenders on frees .
Keeps the Dosh for midfielders / strikers as they are harder to get at a good price

Weird one it’s a good spfl level signing if hearts or aberdeen made it we’d probably raise eyebrows as to why we never tried, I’m not against having him around another one you can count on giving absolutely everything I wouldn’t want to be starting with him every week though

Mixed...
SM wasn't there when County finished 6th in 2021-22.
Scored 3 when signed in Jan following season - and was a sub in the play-off final games.
Got off to a flyer last season with 6 goals in LC group - 13 of his 23 tally came after MM was sacked.

Said this before, really good attitude and never hides, but ability wise we need to look for better.
OR, find a better way to utilise him, he had far too much of the ball at this feet the last couple seasons.

We’d be getting a goal threat and a player who torments defenders- and one who knows the league, can hit the ground running and on form, and is really liked by the support because of his desire and energy. It’s a no brainer to try and get him back.

As an opposition player, you just know he’s going to cause you problems.
If we were to sign him it would be further evidence that someone at Hibs seems to know what they’re doing imo.

I’d be delighted with Murray. In terms of attitude and effort levels he would set the standard from the front.
IMO enthusiasm and energy is infectious and the more players we have like that, the better. We’ll still need a couple of more creative players but in terms of setting standards and attitude levels that Geay speaks of, he would be a great signing I think.

I don’t think it’s a gamble as you know exactly what you are getting with Simon Murray. As others have mentioned his constant harrying and pestering of the opposition defenders along with work rate, energy and attitude is exactly what we need.

McGinn made players around him work harder by setting an example. Murray would do likewise up top, and grab some goals along the way.

I'd agree with this. We know what we are getting with Simon Murray. He has a great attitude and seems to be at his peak right now. Don't think it would work playing tippy tappy football but if we take a more direct and higher tempo approach then I think he's be a very useful player in our squad, especially coming off the bench when defenders are weary.

Since I’ve seen a number of people mention Ruari Paton either on here or elsewhere I thought I’d compare him to Nisbet the season before we signed him.
Kevin Nisbet (Dunfermline, 19/20)
Age: 22
League Position: 5th
Goals: 18
Ruari Paton (Queen’s Park, 23/24)
Age: 23
League Position: 8th
Goals: 17
Considering that he only scored one less league goal for a team that finished 3 positions lower, plus the fact that he’ll have been at hibs the same time as Gray and worked with Liam Craig last season, I think Paton could be a good signing to compete with or play alongside Vente.

Don't think it is. We haven't paid a fee so far. Docherty also out of contract though would be a big wage. Have to imagine Murray and Paton would be a small(ish) fee, which leaves the big transfer fee for McCowan. Can't see why all wouldn't be possible.

Paton is 24 in August. You do wonder if he's on the radar or a few clubs this summer. He's nearly a goal every other game over the last 2 seasons.
2020/2021 9 in 30 for Stranraer
2021/2022 8 in 45 for QOTS
2022/2023 25 in 46 for QOTS
2023/2024 22 in 43 for Queen's Park

2020/2021 9 in 30 for Stranraer
2021/2022 8 in 45 for QOTS
2022/2023 25 in 46 for QOTS
2023/2024 22 in 43 for Queen's Park
Wonder if it’s a choice of either Murray or Paton with big target man type striker also wanted??

See, I'm the opposite. I'd have Murray over Paton. Think Murray will compliment Vente a lot more. Already seen that Vente is better with someone like ALF in the team alongside him.

I agree about Alf being next to him, that to me makes me think Vente needs a really intelligent number 10 who will find him in behind, in the box etc.
Or a real physical number 9 who he will feed off the scraps with, obviously depends on us playing 2 up top.
Simon Murray is a very useful striker in this league who I think would be a brilliant option for us . Would I want him as a lone number 9? I’d probably want better. Do I want us to pay a fee for him? No.

Why would it worry you that we’d have to pay a fee for Murray? You don’t have to pay it out your own pocket….
A couple of hundred grand is peanuts compared to what you lose by being bottom 6 again. Our immediate aim is to put a team on the park that won’t finish in the bottom half- he’d probably be coming in on lower wages than ALF got last season and the fee will be much less than what we paid for Vente.

Not necessarily worry me, did I say I need to pay it out my own pocket?. But I think he amount it would cost County to part ways with him and wages to pay him would be more than most think.
He could again be the difference in county staying up so they’ll want and offer alot.

At some point hibs will start chucking the foley money about.
Bear in mind we’ve not even started yet really. Most clubs in the top league bar the obvious uglies would bite their arm off for the investment that we have.
Players like McCowan 2 years ago were probably not realistic but with higher wages and transfer funds available we really should be cherry picking a few players that are established in this league
McGowan is potentially a prime example of hibs offering the boy much higher wages, bigger shop window to let him move down south.

What is your definition of big games? Relegation play off games against teams not good enough for the top flight?
He has only scored in 4 games out of his last 24 for RC against top 6 teams.
He got hooked before the hour mark in their cup quarter final against Aberdeen.
I like Murray, he knows how to take advantage up against ***** defences however we are at risk of over exaggerating his abilities. If we want to be taking points off our rivals for top 6 we need better - Lennon recognised this in 2018.

Your last paragraph. Last time we he was at Hibs we brought in Kamberi and McLaren who completely transformed our strike force, resulting in SM leaving.
Striker's who perform as well as those two did is what we should be trying to achieve again rather than revisiting Murray.
I won’t be unhappy if he signs but only if he’s our second most exciting striker brought in.

Yes, I’ll accept he scored in a couple of big games 7 years ago. In addition to those 2 matches, he only scored in 1 other match out of 13 against top 6 sides that season.
For me, describing someone as showing up would be doing so far more regularly.

OK can now see that my post has produced quite a reaction although I think it has been interpreted wrongly! Am not suggesting that if we don’t sign him
we will be relegated but we should at least make the effort to go for him. Actually think from
some of the comments above that his ability is underestimated. As things stand, who would be more likely to score goals for us Vente or Murray? At the moment Murray by some distance although obviously hope that Vente can still come good. The loss of Maiolida leaves a huge hole in our goal scoring department and I think Murray can definitely fill at least some of that.

It’s like like he’s absolutely rapid and he scores loads of goals from teams having a high line and he just runs on to one on ones.
A lot of his goals are getting across the front of defenders (something Vente doesn’t do enough imo) or just very good finishes.

I felt as if Mackay was speaking directly to me there. Scared to leave the house in case he’s in my back garden wanting a pagger. I believe him and will duly stand down on my Ian Gordon rants.
I mentioned last week on here that we needed to get the spine of the team right with a few leaders and sprinkle a Maolida or two on top. A few days later SDG comes out and utters that same sentence pretty much word for word (he even used the word sprinkle).
This now makes me think the club are directly listening to me and addressing the important topics.
I’m now seeking clarification on Vente’s role in the upcoming season, SDG/MM. Thanks in advance for your response.

Doing a grand job mate, can you channel a couple of mind blowing gallus signings to really get everyone buzzing, and who will take the league by storm please? :greengrin:pray:

Good - all these boys need to be playing mens football every week. Not sure if anyone of them will be in out squad this season. I really liked Mcallister in the game v City but he probably needs more game time also. Not sure how we didn't get that much at Kelty as he looked excellent on Sat,

Caddens brother Nicky is now out of contract and a left wing back type of player….
Wonder if we’d look at him to compete with Obita
I said a couple of months ago I heard we were interested in Gent so interesting if anything comes from that now we’ve changed coach. Others have said Gray likes Beck - not like that counts for much though

Thought Cadden looked good at FGR but not so good at Barnsley, I don't think the Barnsley fans rated him highly.

Word for word what I was just thinking especially if thinking of three centre backs. Like the guy Gent from Motherwell last season though he did have a really poor game in the victory at ER we had mostly had looked very good imo.

There was nothing to suggest a back 3 on Saturday....but clearly only a bounce game.

It’s about options I suppose and the ability to change it up.

I cant remember if it was this thread or another one but I got some people insinuating that I was lying about my knowledge that Ian Gordon was still involved with recruitment. As this article shows, he is still very much in the picture. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hibs/exclusive-gordons-hibs-recruitment-role-addressed-as-mackay-makes-manager-vow-4683871
Find the quote about next summer and 15 players being out of contract then quite unwise from the typically media-savvy Malky.

Henderson must be leaving imminently.
Reuben must have another loan lined up, hopefully championship level - Airdrie as normal?
Delighted Youan is there.
So based on that squad what do we think - Question marks around:-
McKirdy, Levitt, Jair, Kennah, Wollacot (making impact) and JDH (injuries) and Youan (departure)
What do we still need?
- left back cover
- left winger
- creative / attacking midfielder (McCowan?)
- Striker (Murray?)

i think that comment is to prime us for another “transition” season as we’ll find it difficult to offload half of the sub standard guff that were signed that shouldn’t have been near a Hibs’ strip in the first place.

Not sure how many minute's he has played, looks like he scored 3 in 6 for Derby last season , overall last season it was 3 in 19 for Derby and Stoke
Last 5 seasons he's played 107 games for Stoke, derby and Newcastle scoring 11 goals. He will be 35 in October

With Hanlon, ALF and Stevenson’s departures seemingly being part of an effort to lower the average age, I just don’t us being after a 34 year old. Our one season gap filler signings will be younger Loan players rather than older ones I would think.

Reuben McAllister not in that list (where was list lifted from?) disappointing as he has on the occasions I have seen him been technically above the majority of our midfield. Surely he should be part of things - or maybe that signals hes out on loan? But how will we get talented players involved if they are not around first team squad. I do realise that some will say young / not fully 'filled out' / lacks experience, but I think supporters are a bit more forgiving of youngsters as they try to gain more of these things by actually being involved (like young Whittaker - not the finished article but obviously talented. In for a couple of games but taken out / protected from his mistakes when it was needed)

Somebody posted a comparison with Paton just now and Nisbet when we signed him and their careers are remarkably similar.
I like the idea of the Murray signing but I think I’d be more excited by signing Paton, having never seen the lad play this could be miles off but it feels a bit like Paton would be like signing a young Murray.

McKirdy maybe with the health issues, but Jair, is way past last chance saloon imo. Out of all the things that need to change with the team, recognising that there is a need to move him on, is the clearest. Just has not done nearly enough on the football field to argue otherwise

I’ve got no doubt Hibs ARE trying to move Jair on, but either nobody wants him or he plain refuses to go out on loan, and is content sitting on his contract until it runs out.
We have at least imho 6 players (from the squad list published on the official website a few days ago)who we know are not just good enough for our first team squad, and continuing to ‘give them chances’ only drags us down over the longer time.
That’s a lot of not fit for purpose squad members for a new manager coming in to be saddled with.

Last season was basically a write off for McKirdy with his heart condition, I’d keep him around as an option and give him an opportunity or two
Jair on the other hand should be emptied as he’s absolute dross but he’s meant to be on crazy wages and who in their right mind will pay him what he gets here

Watched Paton quite a bit for the Hibs development team quite a few years ago and always looked a good finisher.
Oli Shaw also looked decent but never fully kicked on.
Myziane showed the level needed to score in this league regularly - we haven’t replaced that yet and we need to add another striker who is consistently going to score.
Central Midfield still also an issue for me centrally - just don’t think it’s good enough.

Agreed, the stick the club get sometimes on social media when we let the next ‘big thing’ move on is laughable. Especially when said promising youngster has been snapped by a lower league team. Can’t recall any of these youths who have come back to haunt us.

Elie Youan / assuming Elie is sold, replace with Maolida-type of loan
Striker
Dylan Vente / Simon Murray
That seems to be spending £3 million on 3 players -
a 32 year old Simon Murray from Ross County, a player on loan and one of Miller or McCowan. £3 mill doesn't really travel that far these days!

Felt confident of getting a fee and I'm not surprised it's a Belgian team as by all accounts he done well on loan over there, even if it was the 2nd tier

From Scott Burns
Ross County have made a bid for striker Ronan Hale but haven’t gone high enough, yet, to trigger his Cliftonville release clause

Nathan Wood could be on his way to Southampton, permanent deal.
