Right footed. Decent basic defender. Would be better than Rocky but at 30 not someone I'd get exited about.
Most will be an upgrade on Rocky , he surely is at the exit door. ( Sorry Rocky ).

Anyone know much about the lad Baldwin at Ross County? A centre half who I thought looked really comfortable in the play offs.
Appreciate I'm only looking at two games.
I'm sure he's the CB that looked very shaky against us this season in pretty much every game!

An Ikpeazu / Levein dream team means only 2 things - being utterly pish and the few highlights they manage to have together coming against Hibs.

Yep - at least one of the centre halves needs to be experienced, the leader.
It’s a position where I just prefer a bit of experience. I’m well up for 19 year olds finding their way, making mistakes elsewhere in the team. I’m less keen on it at CH.
We’ve waved goodbye to a good bit of experience already - fine if we know what we’re doing. I just don’t have any confidence that we do.
With a couple of fullbacks who are ropey defensively and no idea yet how our head coach wants us to play - “young, inexperienced CH coming back from long term injury” just spells trouble to me.

Good players are good players, it doesn't matter if they are 19 or 37 it doesn't matter if they've never played in Scotland.
It would be interesting to analyse our success rates with players based in Scotland vs players based outside of Scotland, I think the results would be surprising to some.
Egan-Riley was well liked in his time here... a 20 year old loanee from the English premiership/championship with little senior game time.

I don't see why we'd not be giving Harbottle a chance ahead of Bevan - he's our player and if he cuts in, we stand to benefit more.
Harbottle got a brief outing at RB under Johnson then discarded under Montgomery - who it can now be accepted, knew f all about putting a decent defence together. That's not really any sort of record to form an opinion on.
Their pedigree as I see it is roughly similar - Harbottle has been discarded by the Premier League club, Bevan has yet to be so, but Harbottle does have a fair bit of English lower league experience behind him.
Harbottle is one of the players I'd be tempted to offer a clean slate to - for the simple reason that he's never really let us down as he's never had an opportunity to.

Maybe.
Is there much to make that call on though?
Bevan is the mystery package, they're always attractive when you're disgruntled with what you've already got.
Promising player, little to no experience, just coming back from injury.
Risky, little to go on.
Both players are relative risks with little to go on tbh.

He will be 21 in October, he needs to be at a club where he is going to get time. Absolutely no point in bringing in a 20/21 year old as a bench filler. Bournemouth need to be careful where they send him if they have visions of him being a first teamer at some point or if they see him as a sellable asset going forward

The majority of them in the national league for a team who got relegated the season he was there.
Then 13 games in league 1 for Cheltenham. Lost 8.

I’m the same as you, I think he’s the type that would probably go into a Killie, St Mirren etc and look good.
Big, decent pace and comfortable on the ball.
I think with most defenders though it’s the organisation put in place by the manager. Our centre halves of late have been hung out to try

I think the issue is the inability/failure of midfielders/wingers to track back, most teams we face in the SPFL are organised enough that this happens. Tracking back gives the defenders more time to position themselves, unlike us where our defenders are left exposed time and time again.

Aye he was that bad last season that they just gave him a 3 year extension at the end of March, he wont getting replaced by a 21 year old that's for sure. He was outstanding at Valencia and moved to Barca for 30 million, cracking goalie.

It seems like a hefty outlay to leave him playing in the A league? Also sure it's a 3 year deal, would the A league be the best place to play and then only have 2 years left on a contract. I'd think they would want to see how he deals with life away from home. If that's Bournemouth, Hibs, Lorient or somewhere else.

Hanlon wasn’t even good enough this year. Why would being 1 year older be likely to end in any way other than worse performances.
Halon leaving = 1 more wage freed up to replace him. We don’t need Rocky to be better than Hanlon to justify letting him go, but rather need his replacement to be better than him.
Bevan replaces Fish
New CB replaces Hanlon
Spot of luck sees Harbottle away and replaced.
Rocky 3rd or even better 4th choice CB.

Just because Montgomery didn't play him doesn't mean he wasn't good enough this season. I think he was and if he's started more games we'd have finished higher up the league.

Hanlon was the best CH at the club.

I do think there’s a bit revisionism gong in with Hanlon.
Before Monty got appointed, lots of posters were desperate for Hanlon to be replaced. I know he apparently played well against Motherwell (I wasn’t there) but I do remember Simon Murray ragdolling him at Ross County.
Hanlon has been a brilliant player for the club but the time is right for him to be replaced.

Unless you can come up with the goals he was directly responsible for it’s a meaningless stat.

It’s not really because football and in particular defending isn’t an individual pursuit. Most goals in football aren’t attributable to individual errors by the opposition.

Murray beat him once. But Hanlon has to have 5 perfect games for people to say he is being a decent player for us. He hasn’t agreed to any other club as yet and has many offers. If Gray gets it wouldn’t be at all surprised if he did one more year.

I do agree with this. When he starts a couple of games the flaws in his game would appear again and fans would want an improvement.
I’d 100% keep him at the club as a leader, influence in the dressing room and a good option as back up.

He was very highly thought of at Queen's Park, Man Utd wanted him and thought they had him- he turned them down even after Sir Alex called him.
Still young but could see him as second choice in view of the Bournemouth connection.

We've not even loaned one this summer 😂
I think it'll be interesting to see how it works, we are limited to a fixed number of loans, I think we will see transfers like NM-W where a player comes to us with a future transfer agreed to Bournemouth that's not made public (I am guessing that NM-W still has a link to Bournemouth beyond his Hibs contract but I might be miles off with that).

Depends on the type of player we’re getting.
If it’s players we previously couldn’t afford like that goalie Paulson it could be very exciting, if it’s young players that aren’t good enough and just winding down their contract until they get released then it’s not as exciting.
Maybe summer optimism but i think the defender we are being linked with who came in January will be really good. Just a hunch though based on how keen we are to get him.

Jungle Drums are beating that Bournemouth have already signed Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Alex Paulsen.
Given Foley’s recent public address in New Zealand that his intention was to bring the best NZ talent ‘to develop in Scotland, and if they turn out to be good enough onto the Premier League’ I would now expect Paulsen to join us on loan at some point, after the Cherries have had a look at him.
I know most expectations are that we will be getting experienced players on loan from Bournemouth who would normally be outside our wage budget…..but the ‘partnership’ has to work both ways.
Anyway…we shall see.

Going by Wiki Jack has pretty much always managed 20 games a season. I know that’s effectively less than half a season if you factor in cups. But he is a good player.

Waiting for Mackay to be at work officially so that his name is on the statement.
Think an official announcement of the, probably 11, players who have left the club (6 perms and 5 loans) will be made tomorrow. Grays appointment could also be announced in the next 5 days.
I'm still hoping Mackay and Gray see sense and want Hanlon for another season.

Of course there won’t. Clubs have a means of making it known players are available for transfer and it’s not through posts on social media.

Marshall is the only player in the 11 that we have heard nothing definitive about.
The other 9 are already gone for sure.
Currently we do not have a goalkeeper coach. Marshall took on the role for the Livi game. I wouldn't see why it would problem moving Marshall over to the coaching staff if it was something he was looking to do.

He has no experience or qualifications as a goalkeeping coach
However, 3 possibilities on Marshall
1. gets another year - I don't see that. Probably a new No.1 coming in on loan from Bournemouth, Will Dennis who will be 24 when the season starts (or new boy Paulsen)
2. appointed goalkeeping coach - very possible given we have heard nothing too date and this could be the reason
3. left on Friday
I'm guessing 2.

I am pretty sure Marshall said in one of his early interviews he was working on his badges, not sure if he started them when he joined us or if he started them before. Like I said if you put him on the coaching staff he can still be registered as a player as a backup. But I do think we need a new No 1. I would like to see us go for Mitov at STJ.

This from David Marshall in 2022
Since then, you’ve featured for Wigan, Derby, QPR and joined Hibernian in the summer. You’ve had many memorable moments for your country too. Do you have any plans yet for when your playing career eventually draws to a close?
Nothing set in stone while I’m still playing, but I’m doing my coaching badges and a masters in sport directorship. I’m keen to stay in the game and I think it would be silly to walk away with twenty years of experience. I think I’ve got a lot to give and after my masters is done next summer, I need to spend some time coaching to see what my coaching style is and how I want to work.

Signing a hen's teeth left sided CB who is proven at this level long before pre-season and European football starts is only for the true morons when you can have a 20 yo English league squad player with a couple of mediocre loan spells and about 20 appearances under his belt pitch up a few days before the window slams shut.

Hibs windows are always the same. We'll get about half the players we need in before the first game of the season at best with the key area of weakness almost always not satisfactorily filled. The remaining quarter of the signings we need (we never actually get all of them in) will be done on the final day of the window and are usually always panic loan signings after targets #3, #4 and #15 fall through.
Meanwhile Hearts and Aberdeen have all their major business done well ahead of time and start the season with a mostly complete squad fully fit, trained and gelled. Any last minute signings they make are bonuses.
Long story short, we'll sign a 21 year old centre back (5 appearances career total) from Hull City on August 31st. https://www.hibs.net/images/smilies/aok.gif

Hoping we’ll see some radically good signings and moves, with the backing of the new investors, and links with a premiership club who have done pretty well this year too given the competition.
But, it’s not happening as I hoped as yet …
For example, it wouldn’t take many Premiership pennies for Bournemouth to sign Cieran Slicker, then loan him to us for a season or two. That’s the sort of thing I was hoping we would do. That’s what I’d do, and it would also potentially create a player ready for premiership standard in two or three years … and there could be other potential options like this, not solely Scottish players, but there is a potential for such a thing … Ross McCrorie is an example too, and if he saw a route to the premiership in the next year or so …
Maybe they see it different, the development of Hibs on the field .. but there are lots of opportunities to strengthen us, and create a route to premiership football for those players who kill it with us for a year or two. Let’s face it, that’s what happens anyway, but usually such players (Brown, Thomson, etc) go west.
Otherwise .. what is the point of the investment and the links ?

Of course, fair point. I hope it transpires. And the brakes gently pressed on our new investors didn’t help in the last window tbf, but nothing very progressive and radical happened then. Some signs of potential in loan signings, but there is so much more could be done at our club.
Fingers crossed still.

The ones being discussed on here tonight are Killie re-loaning a player they already had last season and extending a players contract.
Hearts got a few on pre contract months ago but as a whole I haven’t seen much activity. I’m sure a few have passed my by (not for the first time) but all we possibly can sign right now are out of context players. If that’s not who we are after then we have another 10 days minimum to wait.
I fully share the frustration of us not getting our business done early in recent years but until the players are training it makes no difference if we announce a player today or in two weeks time.

And I will not be surprised to see Lennon Miller going for megabucks in 3 years time (wherever his next move is - I hope we are in the bidding)
Put those 2 with McCowan & you are in a good place, regards protecting the defence better than recent years & being more creative going forward
That's where I'd spend the money

There’s absolutely no chance we could afford Miller or that he’d come to us.
Where we hopefully have a chance is Bournemouth buying him and loaning him to us
