Mcnulty is defo not coming back on a permanent deal as Reading have told both Mcnulty and Hibs they want to recoup the 1m they paid for him.
I believe there are a few League 1 clubs interested including his old side Pompy.
Last minute loan is the best we can hope for but it wouldn't surprise me if Hecky has already sorted his team out by then

Hecky has previously confirmed that he's a fan of the loan system so it wont be a shock to get a couple of loans near the end of the window.
English window closes early aug I think.

You find it a remarkable coincidence that a Scottish team which monitors the lower leagues in England identifies the same free scoring striker that is also of interest to a promising young English lower league manager?
I'm surprised that a poster of your experience doesn't realise that the default position of many hibs fans seems to be to either disparage the club or the people who work for it for not knowing their jobs:greengrin

Hibs would be a sidewards step from Forest Green was a cracker and for any Forest Green fans looking in, Scottish Football is many things but it is certainly not ‘soulless’.

I thought it was a cracking read to be fair. They're so far away in their own little world of soccer AM banter and the general sky sports brainwashing. It's even led one of them to think playing for Hibs in Edinburgh is a sideways step.:faf::faf:
I enjoyed the Aberdeen have loads of money compared to the gunts one as well. Leveins eye for an utter donkey is even known all those miles away it seems. Great read.

I doubt we’ll get him on a permanent deal either but Reading will recognise they won’t get anywhere near £1m back for him.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that Hibs were reportedly very close to agreeing a permanent deal back in January. So I doubt the clubs valuations were a million miles apart. Having said that I’d expect that there will a League 1 team more likely to spend £400k - £500k than we are. Surely that will be enough for someone looking to get him permanently.

They have more chance of being successful being signed now so they can get a good pre-season and maximum fitness before we kick off the league season.
It's very unlike Hibs. We're usually getting folk in during July through to September then trying to get them up to fitness.
I think it says a lot for the players too that they are committed enough to sign early.
I'd be concerned if they were being signed from a pub league. League 2 in England is not a pub league, plenty of players have come from there and done well.

If he was on the verge of joining West Brom with other clubs wanting him and he’s one of the best players in the league then I’m sure we would say it’s the kind of player we should go for. A certain Mr Gray in the same position came from the same league also.

Signing players to play actual positions to do actual jobs is stuff dreams are made of. Instead of sign a player because they are available and try and integrate into the side.

I know what you are saying but remains to be seen if we still get McNulty and if we do it’s been clear for a while that we need for physicality. I would expect Kamberi to be off if McNulty signs.
We haven’t replaced Omeonga yet so still time yet.
For me the players we are signing have played a good number of games down south and have had arguably bigger clubs after them over last 2 years.

Not a rumour by any means and sorry if this has already been mentioned.
Agyepong got injured again while playing for Ghana. It's such a shame but he may need to give up football at this rate.
In a crude way, it possibly puts in perspective we can't just recruit based on name, international experience, previous clubs etc. I've been critical of our recruitment team but we've been fortunate to have some gems that I thought would flop, and others that I thought would be a stand out performer every week but for whatever reason just did nothing. Shows how difficult it is to get it "right". Everything made it look like Man Utd were getting an excellent player in Sanchez and look how disastrous that has been for them.
Can't wait for the new season and to get to see these new signings, I think it's safe to say we'll have better competition for places this season (barring an injury crisis).

I'm more just basing it on how I'd feel if we signed him. I don't necessarily think he'll be a 20 goal a season striker but his pedigree would suggest he'd be a very capable player at this level.

Goals to starts ratio is decent, but a lot of sub appearances too. Was transferred for a lot of money three years ago. Seems to be a good signing on paper, and even just by the law of averages they must be due a good signing:

Different types of players.
Doidge scores more goals but Washington has played at a higher level
Wish we had signed both.
Austin McPhee will have been driving the move for Washington who he knows well through the Northern Ireland national team.
P.S. i am pretty sure we didn't pay more than £250k for Doidge and Hearts will have to drop a decent signing fee on Washington. They will also have to pay him a handsome wage. Accordingly they could easily pay out more than £250k in the 1st 6 months of his contract.

The knowledge of Hibs Net posters on seemingly every football player we sign or intend to sign never ceases to amaze me. I confess to having never heard of some of these guys but I daresay I could always use the Internet to carry out some investigative work then go on to fans forums and profess to be an expert.

Yeah you are right, very true.
Also my thoughts are based completely in ignorance as I know nothing about Jackson, Newell or Doidge.
We have been better than Hearts for 3 years now so just anxious we continue the trend and want to see Levein especially complete a hat trick of seasons finishing below Hibs. He is on 2 for 2 and it will be killing him inside. Relying on drawing Auchinlect Tullybelton in the cup for a straw to cling to😅
Lets hope Heckingbottom has unearthed some diamonds here.
My nerves are that on the face of it I would have picked Halkett ahead of Jackson, Walker ahead of Newell and Washington ahead of Doidge. Although, as said, that opinion is pretty much worthless and based in ignorance. Only time will tell.
Besides I would be picking Scott Allan ahead of them all

I'm pretty sure if Washington was a better option then hibs would've went for him instead of splashing the cash on doidge. Hecky and team ovb see something they really like and think he was the best option available. Trust the manager and the backroom team. It's no pat fenlon or terry butcher were dealing with now. Really good manager and set up behind the scenes

What position does Washington play? If it is a winger type we already have, Boyle, Horgan and Newell. As for Walker, I may be proven wrong buy it has Jambo written all over it. There have been so many of these £10m superstars that left them, for way less than the Jambo value usually, that come back having been massive flops. What has Walker actually done of note since leave Tinycastle? And why is there little interest in him from anywhere else. Halkett as well, one decent season in a pretty poor side, jury is out with him as well. Maybe just my intense dislike of all things hearts but I think our signings will prove to be better than theirs.

Washington is a striker.
We have seen our competitors using the lower English leagues to good effect over the years and we bemoaned the fact we didn't seem to pick up these wee gems of players like Moult, Billy Mackay, Adam Rooney etc and now when we do we question if they're good enough for us.

Yes - when these guys played in Scotland, some were giving it "why don't Hibs look at the lower leagues in the EFL - some real gems to be had there?". And now that we have - "that's not exciting me, the players can't be very good if they're playing for Little Town FC, never heard of him, not a great standard in the lower leagues in the EFL, blah, blah, blah...".
Give the lads a chance to show what they can do, eh?
Tree Hugging ****s.
Will be funny if they go back down this season.
There's actually some decent comments on there from FGR fans. I hadn't realised Bolton were going to pay £1m for CD. Incidentally i like that we're making signings from 2/3 of English clubs to wear green!

Stephen O'Donnell - don't let the Scotland cap and interest from big English clubs fool you, this clown played in league two before signing for killie.

Past few seasons we needed pace / width / creativity.
We got that..
Then we didn’t have a Holt type number 9. Flo tried but that isn’t his game.
McNulty did better in that role.
Now we have lost Marv and Milligan - we know there will be game this season we need someone to do the dirty work and get on the ball / Male tackles etc.
Mallan and Allan won’t turn the ball over enough.

Even if he is though, we will only have Flo, Doidge and Shaw. If we play with two up front, we probably need a 4th. Unless Gullan is deemed to be ready (given he didn't seem to set the heather on fire at Raith, I'd be slightly worried by that).

That's the problem with modern-day golf courses not owned by the members they let any old riff-raff in, in the pursuit of filthy lucre.

We will only go 2 up top is we play 3 at the back, we need 3 in the middle as Mallan/Slivka and Allan can't do that, we'll need a solid tackling mobile DM which allows the other 2 to do their thing, similar to what Dylan did 2 seasons ago.
Hecky played 4-5-1 but was that due to the players available? Most teams play a fluid 4-3-3 which can adapt depending on how the game is going. The modern striker isn't like the old days of being an out and out no.9, they have to be more mobile and adaptable playing anywhere across the front line.
Left winger and striker next.
Horgan and Newell both play on the let as attacking players.

That really shows how lightweight we are in midfield. Need a couple of new additions that can do the uglier side well
Totally agree.
With the ball we could be very very good.
Without it we could be very very bad.
Still need minimum of:
1 goalkeeper
2 defensive midfielders
1 striker
McNulty fits the bill for the striker.
Not sure Omeonga is a defensive midfielder but would happily have him back in addition.
However we might have to wait a while for those 2.
I text my QPR supporting pal about him and his response was "Yes he' s**t, works hard, no end product", which surprised me as when he was at QPR I thought he was the next big for them
I saw him at QPR & the phrase headless chicken came to mind. He's a bit like Laugherty in that he plays better (& more often) for his country than he does for his club. Having said that I'd be delighted if we were in for him.
What about Whitaker?
What about him, I hope he's nowhere near our squad this season.

Seen in the paper today Dundee Utd were trying to tempt Lawrence Shankland to them and it was an offer no one else in Scotland could compete with other that the old firm, where are they getting the dough??

Northern Ireland seem to have loads of players like that. Excellent for N Ireland, meh club careers.

Seemed to lots of serious interest in Shankland in January and now he might end up at Dundee Utd. Strange one.

He’s done a great job, no question. But this phenomenon predates him... David Healy comes to mind.

Do they not have rich American owners? The players they signed in January were crazy for that level and Neilson managed to balls it up.

Yep. Both Dundee Clubs have hence the persistent rumours of some form of merger it ground sharing arrangement are always occupying thier fans websites despite the respective owners both stating that’s not on the cards
Assume the Guys that bought Dundee didn’t expect to be in the Championship and problem same goes for United

Horgan and Newell are lefties, we need cover for Boyle on the right IMO
Horgan played quite a few games on the right when Kamberi was on the left.

Evening news fella saying we're still working on deals to bring Omeonga and McNulty back with comments from others saying MM might happen sooner than we might think?
Imo Rocky and Flo will be gone by the season starting.
If we can get SO/MM in and Rocky Flo leave then we're Bogdan, a CDM and probably 4th choice striker away from having a belter of a squad

Don’t get where the Rocky rumors come from. Two years left on his deal and no real interest from any clubs. If he leaves, he shouldn’t leave for anything under a million quid. Worth that and more.

I think Rocky is worth more than a million. Full international who's had an absolutely brilliant season. I'd be disappointed with anything less than £2M - especially since he's got another two years on his contract with us.

I agree mate, I just have a sneaky feeling his contracts pretty complicated. I think his previous club are due a wedge if we sell him and probably some release fee clause in the contract too. Rather he just stayed for two more years myself.

I’d suspect with sell ons that there’s a price we have to sell at or else you would just put these in and wait for double the price the players worth to make sure you get what you’re due. If that’s the case then we could be forced to sell him. I don’t think we will though, I think he’ll be here next season.

Similar to us with Whittaker, that seemed to drag on for ages. Apparently Norwich contracts contain a clause that if a player’s contract expires and they have not yet signed with a new club they will be paid a further months salary.

If he doesn't sign a pre-contract before a certain date, Norwich have to pay him an extra month's salary. As a result, he'll be waiting until that's paid before he signs.

To be fair they're probably right.
Hibs signed Fabian Yantorno when he was injured and he only managed 7 games for us before being released.
Alex Harris is another who didn't look like the same player at all when he returned from injury.
