Alex Harris signs for Edinburgh City.
Safe to say his career hasn’t went the way we all expected.
Callum Antell, Handling, Harris and Callum Crane all there now.
Basically a mini hibs
Hopefully a good platform for some of these guys to re-find (I don't think that's a word...) some form and a love of the game. If we're lucky then one or two will have a similar path to Dobbie and Robertson who dropped down the leagues to then improve and go on to have good careers. As long as they're enjoying their football then good on them.

Danny was outstanding for us in two matches. Away at Livi and that time he farcically got sent off in Glasgow then lost his place in the side to Scotty Rob, both times bang in the middle of the park, confidence flowing.
Absolutely, as I said earlier I always thought he had potential. Out of that bunch (Harris, Stanton, Caldwell, Crane and going back Kurtis Byrne) Danny was the one I really thought would be our next big home grown signing.

Heard the St Mirren manager is going to chuck it because of transfer ideas and funds.
I was told before the end of the Season that he had already decided he was heading back to Ireland because of family reasons Tony Fitzpatrick indicates in the interview before their playoff game he wanted to keep him before being asked if he was thinking of leaving so he was obviously pre empting a question he thought was going to be asked
But the interviewer sounded surprised and grilled him on it
So wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case

Yeah I was the same, Sammy had a great chance too. Sad how things have went. Injuries definitely ruined it for him.

Are people not allowed second chances in life? As far as I’m aware there have been no other allegations or convictions. Players football career already ruined. He made a mistake as a silly little boy and paid the price since. Away and get your daily mail.

If someone of the age of say 19/20 was texting or messaging your 14/15 year old daughter, would you be OK with it? Now let's say the chat was of a sexual nature, would you be OK with it?
I am all for second chances but with this one I am a bit uneasy about it.
Yes he was a daft laddie, but still old enough to know the difference between legal age and non legal age (I would assume). Given the nature of the crime it doesn't appear to be just an innocent mistake.
"Thomson was convicted on 17 June 2011 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after admitting 'lewd, libidinous and indecent behaviour' towards two girls aged 12 and 14. He admitted to showing them male genitalia, asking the older one for sex and engaging them in sexual chat. He was fined £4,000 and placed on the sex offenders register for five years"
Personally as a father, I think he shouldn't be allowed to play professional football again, someone like that is not a role model are they?
Anyway moving on from this..... any new signing rumors this sunny Friday????

I didn’t have any confidence that any of that batch of youngsters would be sold on.
Compare to the break through of O’Connor, Thomson, then Riordan & Brown, Fletcher. These lads played with a swagger from the get go, and grabbed games by the scruff of the neck. They knew they were good enough.
It seemed to me the likes of Stanton, Handling, Caldwell didn’t have the inner self belief or strut to make it. Cummings did, and was derided by many for his one attribute that set him apart from the youngsters that broke through ahead of him - confidence in his ability.

I quite liked Stanton, thought he was more capable than the others, but even then, I never thought he looked like a great player. I never saw the big deal about Handling. I could never work out what he was bringing to them team.

I don’t exactly like the boy and I take on board the comments about if it was my own girls. What I don’t go for is the burn the witch attitude towards another human who made massive shocking mistakes and paid for it with a top level football career in tatters. I also don’t think he’s any kind of a role model.
Well off topic but Edinburgh City are hardly a horrible club.

People seem to think that the concept of justice is a cuddly, warming idea but if anything it means more difficult decisions than anything.
If our justice system is there to reform, then you can't have a system where people don't get the chance to rebuild their lives and rehabilitate themselves into normal society.
It doesn't mean that I don't dislike the guy but he deserves to rebuild his life and show signs that he is indeed reformed. Otherwise you just drive people underground and into a cycle of reoffending.

I think we need a defensive midfielder who will sit break up play and make an easy pass. No need for him to stray to far past the half way line all the rest of the current midfielders all do that.
The two Killie boys were the best I seen last season at that. Dicker and Power maybe their names? Every time I watched them on tv and the times against us I thought the two of them were pivotal.

Totally agree bearing in mind also football isn’t just a normal career, the boy could and should have played top level football so he not only got justice given for the disguising crime but lost out on the fortunes of a top playing career too as well as facing abuse every week of his life on and off the pitch.

I would add the 4-0 destruction of Sevco to that. Who would have thought that a midfield of Liam Craig, Scott Robertson, Danny Handling & Scott Allan could turn in such a wonderful display.

Wonder where that leaves Gray if this lad comes in.
Seems to be a high energy full back and another who is a bit of s specialist at free kicks. Interestingly Celtic were also linked with him a few times.
Hopefully he leaves this type of own goal at Yeovil :greengrin https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/watch-yeovil-towns-thomas-james-bags-stunning-own-goal-league-two?_format=amp - skip to 1 minute

Succession planning is a huge part of what Hibs do these days so wouldn't be surprised to see us bring in Gray's replacement and drip feed him in throughout the course of this season.
It's Whittaker I'd be concerned about.. I'd imagine he would be on a decent salary but can't see much opportunity for him in the way of game time in either midfield or at right back.
I've never heard of James but on paper it ticks a lot of boxes and is exactly the type of signing you'd expect Heckingbottom to make. It seems we are going back to the recruitment strategy we had in place with Stubbs.. signing guys with potential in their early to mid-twenties that haven't quite reached a higher level for one reason or another. It says a lot about him that WBA were interested, a club with ambitions of returning to the PL. Hope we can get this one done.

Could be an awkward one with this guy if he comes straight into the team considering we’ve just gave Gray a 4 year deal and he is our captain.
I also think with guys like Gray, Stevenson, Bartley we are losing more than a player, it’s that they know how much certain fixtures mean to the fans and won’t let us get bullied or be off the pace for them. Some new players coming in don’t get that. With those 3 you know they will compete for every ball and make it a real game, they will handle the frantic manner.
This guy must be some player if he’s going to dislodge Gray.

I'd be more concerned he was part of the defence from a team that dropped out the bottom division down South..... doesn't fill me with optimism. However I know nowt about him and happy to reserve judgement until he signs and shows us what he can do. We don't have a good record of signing good (better than we have) full backs in recent years.

We spent half of this season with no good rb because Gray was injured. Do people think we should be going into the season with only Gray as a rb? Whittaker is no where near good enough so we need one in, just means Gray will have to play well to keep his place which is how it should be.

I was waiting for that one. I specifically said he was relegated with the bottom team in the English leagues. SJM was relegated with a premier League Team. I wouldn't have the same reservations with a relegated EPL Team full back, as they would be Championship Standard, I do with a League 2 relegated team. That makes him Non-League now. It's not the relegation, it is the League they are relegated from.

I get your point, sometimes players just need to drop a couple of levels to rediscover their confidence or get that run of games. James is still young and seems to have went to Yeovil to get game time which he has done, during that time he’s had a lot of interest in him from championship teams, Celtic and won player of the season.
That gives me hope, if he was 28 and a run of the mill midfielder for them I wouldn’t be too excited.
Hopefully he can make the step up.

Deals like the Turnbull one are important to celtc because they get to collect the bigger fee from the eventual step up. Pity the richer club didn't just cut them out the deal like Villa did with SJM.

We’re really clear on who we want, what positions and what type of character.
As it stands, we’re getting our first choices in which is great. But with that, you’ve got to be really patient, you’ve got to push and there may come a point with any of those where we can’t get any of those and move on - that’s just the way it is.

We haven't been saying that this season because the evidence suggests the manager is being backed.
Or maybe the manager has a much better set out strategy and vision of how he wants to play and the type of player he needs, that has been communicated to his recruitment team and that's why we are seeing the targets coming in. His approach since day one for me, has been a lot more professional than Lennon's ...so looking back on Lennon's transfers and last summer, maybe he just hadn't got himself organised had a clear strategy, hence we were scrambling about in the transfer market without real direction from Lennon. Also it seems that Hecky has a sound knowledge of players down south and has done his homework and prep , did Lennon ????

Don’t think anyone would suggest McNulty should be our only attacker coming in, doubt whether a poacher is the answer if hecky wants to play 451 more often than not, IMO he needs a guy capable of being an effectice, upwardly mobile lone striker.

Think we need to strengthen the midfield and striker department.
IMHO I think Kamberi is the better finisher between him and McNulty and if Hecky wants to play a fluent 4-5-1/4-3-3 then it might be a case of one or both will have to start playing a wider role.

Watching some Scott Allan clips on YouTube and with his vision and passing I could see McNulty scoring 20 goals easily next season assuming he stayed fit. I also think we will win alot more free kicks around the 18 yard box which could get us more goals from the likes of Mallan and Allan

How much is excessively big? We can assume Reading will want some of their £1m outlay back. We'll probably offer about £250k plus add ons. Personally, i believe £0.5m would be a bargain. He's now a full cap & 1 good full season would see that value increase. :I'm not sure where people think we can get an improvement on Mark for less or the same money.

I would like to see McNulty back but still feel we would need another striker.
8 goals and 4 assists for us is impressive especially when you consider he had the dry spell right after he missed the sitter for Scotland.
He is sharp and has good movement and plays a lot of clever balls for the wingers to run onto, with Scott Allan returning and more attacking players coming in I think he would look even better.
Fwiw I think he’s a better finisher than Kamberi who to me always seems a bit rash and lacks composure.
He would certainly be a good options to have and add quality to the squad which is what we need.
Omeonga seems to be a fan favourite from his loan spell with folk desperate to see him back, however I would much rather see McNulty return.

Respect to your opinions, but I think we tend to overplay things like balance in midfield. A good midfield player who can tackle, chase, hold onto the ball and find short or long passes should always get a game, regardless of some similarities in style to another - or even 2 other midfielders. I really liked Omeonga and would love him back.
However, definitely agree we need at least one more striker more urgently and they are more difficult to find, so if it was between Omeonga and McNulty right now, Marc is our priority.

Not sure Arsenal would be a great move for him.
I know it’s the Premiership and to some that’s the ultimate destination but there’d be no champions league football for him, unlikely to win anything and the atmosphere at the Emirates always looks flat, probably not a good stepping stone to other English clubs either.
If I was him I’d hold out for a move abroad to a German, Spanish or Italian side, realise it’s not that simple though.

Think it would be a great move. He will be playing at a higher level than he currently is and could really kick on playing against the likes of Man City and Liverpool. Not to mention hopefully kick on again training daily with a better standard of player.
A couple of seasons proving himself at Arsenal and he could end up at someone like Man City, just have to look at them probably signing Harry Maguire as a possible similar career path.

3 fa cups in 5 years, league cup final, Europa League final, 2nd place recently. Wish Hibs were that unlikely to win something. Would be a excellent move for him, more than he has earned after a injury stricken last year.
Clubs like Arsenal are the ultimate destination never mind the premier league

Fair enough, didnt realise they had some success recently, my perception of them is a team in a bit of a rut just now.

They're in transition but they're definitely not some middle of the road team. Always laugh at how Spurs are bummed up but have 1 trophy in 20 years and a stadium 500 million over budget.

It's not, but that has been at a time when they've had to find a good few quid for a new stadium at a time when some of their competitors have had cash thrown at them.
Arsenal are a great club, and even when they are not winning things they have a certain prestige about them.

I disagree regarding balance, imo that’s why we fell away so much last season. Had a severe lack of pace, creativeness and defensive minded people all at the same time.
For me Omeonga is good at pressing and winning the ball back and provides the odd good turn, but imo is passing is poor and isn’t creative or good enough defensively to start for us. He would be a good player to have in the squad but I just don’t see the big fuss.

He certainly has the potential and prior to his injury showed signs that he was beginning to really kick on.
He needs to tone down his rashness a bit which I sometimes thinks he does to appease the fans.

Aye £10m is dreamland stuff, they probably know that too, it's very likely that it's just Aberdeen posturing.
They will do very well to get much more than £5m, McKenna has underperformed at international level so many times now, I don't think he's anything special. It's an absolute sickener that he's going to be worth significantly more than McGinn when he's barely half the player.
Still, it's a strong and purposeful statement that more clubs in Scotland could benefit from making.

If Aberdeen are turning down £5m for McKenna (and I rate him and he will become a top defender) Morelos is worth £8m easily.
Agree with you on the real Sparky ( it would be great to have him back) but not McKenna
He gash!
If the Sheep get offered even 5m (which I doubt) they should take it
They must be kicking themselves

I always find it a bit strange when people are shooting down clubs when asking for big money for players but on the same token talk about some of the inflated transfer fees down south. I think it’s great teams like Aberdeen arnt bending over and taking what they value as too low an offer it’s the only way we as a league and country will start increasing the value of our players as generally they go down south and do very well.

If a bid for Kamberi has been accepted I hope we have a couple of strikers lined up pronto as we are already short in that dept ...if Kamberi is going leaves Oli Shaw as our only senior striker...

A lot of chat on here about Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers players values, etc... and not enough about this rumour...!
Where did you hear this? Who has placed a bid? And for how much?
