McCrorie was 1st choice
Fraser 2nd choice
Omeonga / Irvine / Docherty etc 3rd choice
We are going down our shopping list..I don’t care really I just want a player in who will improve us and still plenty or them about.
Ah sorry, I misunderstood your point. I thought you meant whoever we sign would be fourth choice in our squad to play central midfield.

Omeonga as predicted has signed for Pescara.
Annoying as feel him plus 1 other would have really improved our midfield.
Whoever we sign in midfield is going to be considered 4th choice no doubt. That's really disappointing especially as it sounds like one that would have been easy to get over the line. Anyone know if we showed any interest?
Hope Stephane gets thr backing of their manager and a good run in the team to grow into the top notch player he can be.

Still a few weeks of window left better to be patient and get the right one rather than panicking imo.
It would appear we are waiting for the English leagues to start in order to obtain potential loan recruits.

I'm very embarrassed to support the last team outside of Celtic to win one of cups, currently 2nd in the Premiership. Shameful.I dont think the fact that we are currently 2nd should be worn as a badge if honour when its early days. Equally, we shouldn't be reaching snap judgments if we were sitting in 11th. Things always seem to be so polarised on here.
Like others, I think if you look beyond the league table, there is some cause for concern in our performances and make-up of the squad. They could quite easily be fixed by one (maybe two) good midfielders. That doesnt take away from the improvements in defending and the other positive signings we've made.

I really hope we go for this guy as he is exactly the type we need,it also mentions work permit might be an issue if we did so.

Bryson was a quality player.
He could be abit like Greg Stewart who didn't fit into Aberdeen long ball tactics.
It must be murder to play in abereen centre midfield if you like to get on the ball and pass. Wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if Bryson signs with another prem side and does really well and I would take him above Hallberg and Newell at present
Was the issue with Bryson not that he’s constantly injured rather than just not getting a game?

Ok Tony, time to apologise to Graeme and his team for not knowing what you were talking about and wasting their time checking out a £30k a week player. P.S. probably best if you spell his forename correctly in your apology .

I don’t think there’s a mad rush do just bring someone in. Yes we need certain types of players but ahead of tomorrow we have Gogic, Nesbit and a fitter Murphy who will all Improve us from the Aberdeen game. Need to be patient next couple of weeks to ensure we get the best possible players as we near the end of the window.

Would take Zak Vyner that was on loan at Aberdeen last season. 1 year left on his current contract.
Very similar to McCrorie with age, size/build, type of player and positions he can play.

Tbh i hadn't heard of him, can't even remember him playing for Aberdeen. Having a look he played in midfield for Aberdeen when we won 3-0 at ER. Seems he played for his parent club towards the end of last seaosn and has already played in the cup for fjem this season. Maybe they fancy keeping a hold of him?

In march, the world fell in and hibs lost their income. Everyone talked about us cutting our cloth, surviving and working with what we have. No more income has emerged since then for hibs, yet we are now demanding multiple signings.
I get it's frustrating, but we have made 3 very good signings and I would imagine we will see even more. Can we keep it real though? The future of the club is way more important than new faces.
Personally, I think we are decent anyway and it's our style and formation which needs to be tweaked through games and fitness.

Nobody is demanding players are brought in, the manager has talked openly about bringing players in to strengthen, the fans know we still have a budget to play with after losing out on McCrorie, it's natural to look forward to new players coming in whilst keeping in real.

Only thing I saw was a piece 3 days ago in which Holt makes a plethora of excuses for Stokes non appearance for Livingston to date and states he needs a further 3 weeks to get himself up to speed.
Suspect he was starting from a very low fitness level. Anthony is not the ever ready professional athlete type. Signed for Livingston on 22nd August so 24 days and counting.

I don’t follow the logic here.
James has 2 years left, if we find a suitor for him or 'mutually terminate' or whatever the phrase is.
Then, given we were interested in a guy in part down to his flexibility of being able to play at the back or in midfield, does that not make it quite likely we've identified both positions as ones we'll strengthen? Particularly given we've got Gray and McGregor as cover, who are both past their best years.

Personally, I don’t see how people can say we need a new centre mid but not a new striker because we have Boyle and Wright who can play there even though it’s not their main or best position.
Strikers - 2 - Doidge and Nisbet
Can fill in/out of best position- 2 - Boyle and Wright
Youth/untested - 2 - Gullan and Shanley
Centre mid - 3 - Gogic, Newell, Hallberg
Can fill in/out of best position - 4 - Allan, Mallan and Iv even seen some saying McGinn and Stevenson can cover/have played there
Youth/untested - 3 - Stirling, Murray and Campbell
Now I’m not for a second suggesting some of those players are played centre mid, especially as part of a 2.
However it seems people think striker is an easy position to just chuck folk in or play out of position when it’s anything but. Especially if we’re chasing a game I’m looking at the bench and don’t have much faith/confidence those coming on will change the game.
Ross and the Raith manager also said Gullan is better playing off of the left.
We need another striker to really push Doidge and Nisbet to get the best out of them, loss of form or cover for an injury.
We also need a new centre mid.
James
Murray
Stirling
Mackie - I actually liked him when he broke in and seems to have been forgotten about/wrote off after his red card and I’m not really sure why. He’s also one of few that’s had a decent loan spell at a good team.
Etc to all leave either permanent or on loan.

If Gullan isnt the player pushing those 2 this season then he needs to move on. We arent talking about 17 year old boys now. He's 21 he needs to be playing. What we would be daft doing is signing a journeyman striker on 2k a week to sit on the bench all season. Shanley is 19 now also. So again he need to be pushing to be in that squad every week. There is nothing to suggest that either player cannot keep their place in the squad.
In midfield most people are talking about the missing piece.... the McGinn style player. We don't have that and none of the players you have mentioned are close to that style of player (even before he improved and moved onto a higher level) Ross clearly wants a player in there with strength and energy.

I'd be happy with 1 midfielder, fitting that description. If anything, I'd suggest we maybe need 2 of them, but accepting where we are financially, I think we have adequate cover for all other positions. I quite liked what I saw of Shanley at the weekend, and I've liked a few of the glimpses of Gullan we've seen (even if his cameo was less impressive at the weekend).
And the point has been made before - credit to Hibs for the business so far. We were screaming out for a Gogic type to be signed, the Nisbet signing is a strong one. We're yet to see that much of Wright, he's been hot and cold in short bursts.
It's the fact that we've done well with these players that it makes the final piece of the jigsaw stand out more, but I do think the shortcomings in midfield are obvious and will be exploited by better teams.

But like I said that’s now two managers that have said Gullan isn’t a out and out striker and is more suited to playing off of the left. When he’s came on for us too it’s often been playing off of a wing and not straight upfront. Who says it would be a journeyman? You can buy/loan good strikers out there to provide competition and we’ll have more money when we move players on.
Centre mid I agree it’s a missing piece however we need to build a good, strong squad and not just a starting 11 hence my point about another striker. Look at Aberdeen’s squad and their strength in depth is probably one of the reasons that will edge them to 3rd or got them 3rd in previous seasons.
I thought Campbell was meant to be the young player with energy but he doesn’t seem in the picture at all under Ross?

Canny say I remember if this guy was any good or not
But like I said that’s now two managers that have said Gullan isn’t a out and out striker and is more suited to playing off of the left.
Playing off the left as a right footer is an inside forward similar to Rashford, Sane etc, they are seen as attacking forwards, the modern forward should be able to play left, right or centre.

I don’t think the McCrorie deal really has anything to do with Tom James.
I also don’t think that if we release a guy, James, who wasn’t anywhere near getting a game for us, we’d need to bring in 2 players to replace him.
Nowhere in my post did I say that, but it looks like an ADDITIONAL requirement if TJ goes. We're not going to rely on Gray, who managed 4 league appearances last season to be our cover at Right back.

Played 21 games for a St Mirren that finished second bottom. Scored a pen in the playoff final that kept them up. Lot of pressure on the lad with that name though!

Compared to Arteta and the respective jobs they are doing, in very similar circumstances, he looks like a dinosaur and one is on the way up one is on the way down.
I do like the irony that he appears to have once been an innovator and is now being left behind. The same fate that befell Wenger, which Mourinho took great delight in. “Specialist in failure” etc.

I think it’s a bit harsh to be so critical of Mourinho. He has won 25 trophies including a Champions League with Porto and a domestic treble with Inter, the only club to ever do so in Italy I believe.
He gets criticised for his performance at Man Utd but finished 2nd behind a fantastic City team and won a European trophy.
I think only Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd achieved more points than him last season after he took over at Spurs.
I believe with two or three key signings he will win a trophy with Spurs too.

I don’t think you can knock his early career.
Man Utd as well, given what went before, he did ok in a tough gig.
I just don’t believe he’ll be allowed to / able to sign the 2 or 3 players he needs, and I don’t think he’ll be able to get as much out of the rest of them as Poch did.
This Bale deal would be an eye-opener right enough though.
Modern football needs more energy and attacking intent that Mourinho’s teams have.
I watched some of the second half of their game with Everton and they were truly abysmal.

Winks. Kane has had a major injury to deal with. He's turned Dier into a top class CH. Brought in some decent youth prospects, and signings for the next 5 years. He needs a DM and another forward, and he wont be far away from trophies. A lot of players that Poch bought were simply not up to the level.

Can’t say I agree that Dier is a top class CH, I don’t think he’s even good enough for Spurs but agree to disagree.
Spurs might win a domestic cup but they are getting further away from the top 4 IMO. Arsenal, Man U & Chelsea all improving at a quicker rate than Spurs, and Leicester there as well. His ceiling is now top 4 and the odd domestic cup IMO, like Wenger in the second half of his time at Arsenal. I’ll be amazed if he’s still there at the end of the season.

I don't know a lot about him (in terms of playing style), could he be a cheap/reasonable option to be the midfield cover/support for Gogic?

Spurs may win the odd League Cup, but miles away from winning the league. He will maybe last this season but it will implode at some point.

I know nothing about him but JR will know him inside out so I’m happy to go with that, I do feel like it’s another attack minded midfielder (might be way off?) if that’s right it’ll be strange as we’re currently not playing a style or formation that suits either of the 2 we currently have

He set a high bar with incredible achievements early in his career.
I liked him at the time, but I don’t see how anyone can say he’s done anything bordering on “special” for a while.
There’s nothing “special one” about having arguably improved Man Utd when compared to winning the Champs League with Porto.
It takes a special skill set to get the best out of a group of prima Donna millionaires with massive egos and I’m not sure he’s quite got it any more.

It's a transfer thread.
You don't have to post a transfer or a rumour.
You are quite entitled to read about them or reply to them if you see fit.
You shouldn't open it up and read an ongoing debate about Spurs, not a bad topic by any means but should be on a thread of its own.
Finally, I won't make up a transfer rumour just to suit you.
I hope you can now understand.

Worked really hard to get stronger through his development years and also to recover from his injury. Falls into the category of the many who gave it their all but didn't manage to become a first team regular. If Stokes had even half Lewis's work ethic he'd be on mega bucks at a top club.
