Maybe need to have a wee look on Oneleagueback to see if Dazzajambo has said he's signing for Hearts. If he has then Gogic is probably at East Mains right now
Apparently the 'Man Utd clause' for Gogic is a stumbling block for Hearts :greengrin:faf:
I don't venture there but was shown a forum post that lad posted months ago claiming that if Donis Avdijaj had a good season then Hearts would have a £20 million player on their hands :faf: that '£20 million player' who feel over his own feet in the box up at Dingwall :greengrin

can't see us signing a left back. I think Doig is on the cusp of breaking in to the team.
If we don't then it's criminal, especially if we are going to play 352. Stevenson is well past his best and we can't rely on a youngster who has never played first team football in the top league.

I wouldn’t call it criminal in the current circumstances. I write that is someone who has thought for some time that a new left back is required.
We need to be realistic about where we are, we can’t improve everything. Youngsters who have never played first team football before will also be a feature of this season for many teams.

I listened in to the Hearts v Hamilton league game at Tynecastle - proverbial 6 pointer. Was delighted when Hamilton scored early then even sweeter added a second soon after. They were going to go on to win that match comfortably. After Hearts got back into the game (not by virtue of any of the 50 odd players on the books amassed through millions of pounds, but by the wind blowing the ball against a 16 year old's arm) it looked like they would turn it round for the 3 points. The biggest reason they never was Gogic. Man of the match for each of the commentators. Head to everything when Hearts had about 40 corners. A 'Collsus' was the term used.
Hopefully get this over the line, have a feeling he will make a massive difference to the team

Are they strengthening? They’re signing players but, like us, will probably have lost more than they brought in. Obviously you could lose 7 or 8 poor players and bring in 4 good players and you’d have a better 11. But nothing to suggest what they have is better than what they’ve lost. Robinson already on record as saying he’ll have a smaller squad this year as well.

Good day Hibs.
Players making a step up which I don’t mind as they should be hungry to do well. Also means I’m more cautiously optimistic than anything.
The fact Ross has applied a bit common sense and just signed someone to play in the most problematic position we have, rather than try to do something clever, encourages me.

Gogic will be an interesting signing. Seems a really effective player, but the difference for a defensive mid at Hibs and Hamilton, is that he'll have to be more proactive here, picking the ball up higher up the pitch, and starting moves. It's part of the reason Bartley was in and out of the team.
On small pitches like Tynceastle, or slow running pitches I think he'll be ideal.

Hope not.
Defence needs sorted regardless of the numbers we have.
Depends how we line-up because we have a fair number of players that like to play in the centre of midfield. Can't all play and certainly will be difficult to keep them all happy if we are playing 442. Injuries and form will have impact on these decisions. Glad we have more options on the wing now though.
I expect Kamberi, James and potentially Boyle to leave though. Murray and Mackie may leave as well - think this is make it or break it year for both of them either way.
JammyDoidger
10-07-2020, 05:53 PM
Would like us to strengthen the defence now, wouldn't be too fussed if any of the defenders left tbh, I'd go for Stephen O'Donnell whos a free agent, he would be a mainstay at right back. The boy Hamaalainen was good for killie too at left back but he's signed a new deal with QPR I read.

Carson has just sat on the bench for a whole season. So replacing the guy who played in front of him all year doesn’t strengthen them. O’Hara has come back but wasn’t a regular for them last year either.
Still maintain there is nothing in the business they have done that suggests they have a stronger squad than the one that they finished third with. It might work out for them, might not. As I stay, I’m more challenging the opinion that they’ve definitely strengthened.
Will agree on Aberdeen. If we finish above them, we finish third IMO.

Rumours that Docherty is at east mains for a swap deal with Kamberi.
Not saying that there is no truth in this but docherty played for rangers against hamilton today.

Good feeling about these signings. Same as when Omeonga came home and added bite to the middle.
I'm hoping Jack Ross is as good as he seems as a "player manager". As the squad stands now with these signings and with less chance of the "developers" getting the game time they need to progress his work might be cut out keeping everyone happy.
Maybe more loaning out with the likes of Doig, Gullan and Mackie?

Good enough account for me. If a couple of the younger Dev / Reserve boys are as hungry as I think they are, then there are surely opportunities to settle the first team numbers. Martin Boyle would be a big loss to the club all round as he has a history, profile and character that endears him to most of us and is a real hero to the youth. Flo can come or go but it’s probably all about him going. I wouldn’t want to see many other departures though or we could be back where we started in terms of a squad.

Yeah, it's not like there aren't good players to be found there but the market we were shopping there is arguably the most overpriced one in the world. You can pay top whack for very average indeed.
These players come with a bit of a track record and have earned the chance to see if they can kick on at a bigger club at either the same or a higher level.
That's different to getting players who think they can come up from the English third division and piss it.

I agree with you regarding Hallberg, when he first signed for us he had played at all levels for the Swedish national side except full. I suspected or at least hoped he would make a full Swedish international playing for us. I think Ross will or at least should give him a chance. That’s how I see it with Rocky as well, I don’t think we need much now in signings but I do think we need a good back up keeper to keep rocky on his toes, was always impressed with Danny Rodgers (ex-dons) when he was on loan at Falkirk and see he’s still without a club, only 26 still as well.
A keeper and Docherty for me and we’d be fine, gives the opportunity for some of the young guys over the course of the season to get game time and gives us a strong first eleven and bench

I'd be very surprised if we were even considering him. We already have Paul McGinn (who I thought was good in his short time with us) and SDG. I still think the latter will have a part to play next season although we will probably manage his game time better by leaving him out of certain fixtures - away to Livi, Killie and Hamilton for example.

You've left out Gray. If he can play CH, then that fills your gap at the back (move McGregor and Jackson one spot left) and it may help his injury problems as well as he wouldn't be sprinting up and down the flank.
There's almost a case to bring back Simon Murray as a cheap fourth striker to complete your squad.

Sounds like utter bollocks. In that market down there you could probably add £10m to both fees.

Exactly yet the media seem to over dramatise everything Hibs related!
Maybe even a more negative spin than there should be. I think it was mentioned by someone else but Budge and co paid for a manager and signed Gordon yet nothing negative about that from certain corners??

Always thought bonuses in football were a bit of a cheek. Does a postie get a bonus for delivering a letter? I get it's an incentive but they should be trying to win anyway it's their job. That article is probably nonsense anyway but I fully trust the club to do what is needed.

Lewandowski's transfer was 6 years ago, he was out of contract and it was in a different league. Complete false equivalence.
McBurnie to Sheffield United was one year ago, it was between a Championship club and a Premier League club, involving a Scottish international in his mid twenties. It broke the record transfer for a Scottish player (until Tierney broke it again) and is entirely relevant in estimating the market for McGinn - a mid twenties, Scottish international, under contract who'd likely be transferring from a Championship club to the Premier League.
Not the same, but definitely similar AND relevant.

Do you think the negotiations involve lines like ''well, Ollie McBurnie moved for this much so McGinn moved for this much''?
Because if not, it really isn't in anyway relevant. Neymar and Mbappe are the transfers that massively inflated the market, they are kind of relevant. Not McBurnie. It has no bearing in the slightest.

Do you think they don't? It's not as direct as that, but of course other transfers in the same league are used as reference points for negotiations.
Ollie McBurnie was the most expensive Scottish international ever at one point last year, moving in similar circumstances to the similarly aged McGinn, that is definitely a fair point of comparison for 04Sauzee to make, but you jumped on their post making a bizzare false equivalent.
Anyway, back to the point that McGinn's potential transfer would be a significant windfall for Hibs...

McBurnie hadn’t played in the premiership so there’s not really any comparison. Anyway whatever your thoughts on how much McGinn will leave for(certainly nowhere near £18m as getting promoted is worth a lot more than that to Villa), Grealish will definitely not be leaving them for anything less than £50 million because he’s English

I don’t like that the club is making signings whilst cutting back wages and numbers on current staff!
However, everybody else is doing the exact same and if we don’t we are likely to be poor next season having already lost some players and potentially losing more. If we lost 1 or 2 first team regulars to cash in then I would be genuinely concerned about relegation which would result in even more losses, potentially fatal.
Of course these actions open the club up to criticism but it is what it is.
In summary, it’s not great and in an ideal world it wouldn’t happen, but I don’t see how we have any other option.

Although not a perfect analogy, many companies will be reducing their business to core activities just now. So they may be laying off ancillary staff but still investing in new machinery or equipment to help boost the productivity of the firm. Closing the canteen to save money but upgrading the machinery so to say.
Not particularly PC to equate new players to new machinery but there is a correlation. I am sure that the current players can see that the new ones fill gaps in the squad so will be OK with them joining.

Previous transfers have huge relevance to future transfers, if nothing else they will be used by agents in negotiations with clubs.
Transfers are all about market valuations (perhaps with the exception of Messi, Beckham, Ronaldo etc, where commercial value is just as big a consideration).
In the same way, as a house valuation looks at sold house prices, a transfer market valuation works by looking at the "market" ie other transfers.

Yep. If Villa stayed up then I would have thought that it would take £30m+ to prise SJM from them.
Relegation probably reduces that to under £20m but hopefully with a decent sell on clause. Hopefully meaning that we would get something from any future sale as well as his next move.

Hickey alone will wipe out any big clubs budget.
When did the thieves actually sell a player they've developed to a top flight club for serious money and sell on?

Exactly. Juventus players agreed a 4 month wage cut that saved the club around £80m. And I guarantee they will be active in the transfer market this month summer.
We all know how Hearts handled this and are still throwing money at Neilson, Gordon and apparently Nesbit.
I don't want anyone at Hibs to lose their job but I have very little sympathy for the first team players. We were poor for the long spells last year and many of them were not earning their salaries in terms of performances on the park.
Losing back room staff is a concern and I really hope any losses are minimised but the bottom line is we are a football team and its up to the owner, manager etc to get the best team on the park. That encourages fans back and will lead to healthier finances long term for the club.
