Aberdeen could bag themselves a few £££ if Bologna sell Lewis Ferguson to Napoli
Josh Campbell was mentioned in an Italian paper back in April https://www.ilrestodelcarlino.it/bologna/sport/bfc/bologna-fc-mercato-un-filo-di-scozia-rossoblu-piace-campbell-1e2f1a07

Would be a cracking move for JC and I’d tear limbs off for £1m-£1.5m with a sell on for him

Dundee United are trying to reduce their wage bill. They will not be taking Premiership players on Premiership salaries in exchange for an asset they can get cash from. Doidge and Henderson both have contracts with Hibs too, they will not want to drop down to the championship and championship wages, even with a promise of more game time. If we want Levitt we will need to pay for him. If we want rid of Doidge and Henderson we will have to pay them off or sell them, I just don't see either party even entertaining a cash & player deal.

Nope. It's interest free and not yet due so the only effect repaying it would have would be to seriously damage our cash flow.
Interestingly, (or maybe not) it's shown at discounted value in the accounts - i.e. although the loan was £2,882,000 the balance sheet figure is only £1,448,395, which is what £2,882,000 is expected to be worth when repayment is due.
I'm already sorry I mentioned that last bit.
You ****ing what? I'm so happy to hear that football clubs were given these amounts of money interest free while small businesses like ours made do with CBILS loans repayable over a much shorter period at Bank of England base rate plus your own bank's mark-up.
And I'd like to put on record that I in no way feel even more bitter about the fact that we are now having to make brutally higher payments because these utter incompetents have crashed the economy and lost control of interest rates nor does it bother me at all that they handed so many billions of similar loans over to wide boys and criminals, some of which converted it to cash in suitcases and left the country with it or bought themselves shiny new things and then deliberately collapsed their companies.
Still, it brings colour to the transfer thread so there's that.

It’s not always as simple as that though.
If Doidge has a year left on say 3k a week but DU offer him 2 years on £2k a week then he’s got a guaranteed £200k rather than a guaranteed £150k.
Henderson needs to consider that if he sits kicking his heels at Hibs for 3 more years that he’ll be mid 20s and be a forgotten man in football. If he went to DU now and done well he’d either come back up with them or maybe get a move back to the top tier. If he doesn’t and stays here (and presumably doesn’t turn things around) then he’ll be heading to the Championship in his mid 20s and be unlikely at that age to come back to this level.

They wouldn't be on Championship wages. They'd go on loan and we'd subsidise them. Just like we did with Doidge last season.

So that's 25% of the full £6m fee.
£1.75m is just over 29% of £6m or exactly 25% of £7m.
I tend to think it's more likely to be €7m which is roughly £6m.

I'd be surprised at this. Usually sell on's are based on profit.
The fee reported is £5.2m. We apparently sold him for £3m meaning the profit would be £2.2m, meaning 25% of that is £550k.
If it's 25% of the whole fee, that doesn't make sense on the sellers side at all as that is £1.3m meaning that Verona themselves would only make £900k.
The likelihood is that the figures are just lazy journalism.

Maybe it's their accounting year end and they want to get the cash into this year's accounts?
Or maybe they're due Doig a bonus payment on 1 July and don't want to pay it?
Or maybe they're due Hibs another transfer instalment tomorrow and don't have the cash?

Call me crazy but 500k isn't much for a player of levitt's quality, an education at Man Utd, couple full seasons in our league under his belt, averaging a goal every 5 games in a much poorer side, good rate considering he's not an attacking midfielder and 13 Wales caps. United paid for him how much do we think we would get him for? 500k is sweeties in todays market I'd expect Hibs, Hearts or Aberdeen to pay that for a couple players every summer. Get it done Hibs. Can't build a solid squad on loans and over the hill players. Speculate to accumulate. These are the type of signings Hearts and the sheep will make, that's why they finish third.

If we’re still offering him a deal it would seem to make more sense to sign for another couple of years here and maybe go on loan there.
I said recently I don’t think he’s first team level yet at Hibs. Falkirk is about the level I’d expect him to get a game at so could be a decent move for him whether it’s permanent or a loan if it’s game time he’s after.

I was looking on the Dundee Utd forum and went back several pages to a thread were manager Fox had criticised Levitt for a poor performance , some Arab fans blamed the manager for playing him to deep and others said that was his best position . If we did get him , where do you think his best position would be DM , CM , AM ? . Watched more footage of him and his passing , breaking up play and shooting ability look good btw . Hope we get him .

There's another one that's meant to be leaving United, Aziz Behich, he would solve our problems at left back. Gave us a torrid time last season, has that grit about him, type of player that would play for hearts and piss you right off. 32 but looked fit as a fiddle last year. Would have taken him over Obita.

Boyler's best mate at the Socceroos
Think it was Martin who recommended Behich to Jack Ross, who subsequently signed him.

Tait and Mackay never even got a friendly last season to show themselves, think Mackay might today but doubt tait will given he’s not got a number.
Then there’s Doidge (probably will due to lack of strikers) Kenneh, Tavares, Delferriere etc

You might be right though I wouldn't be surprised if we took in a RB or another player like Egan-Riley on loan that can play a few positions . It's a long season and if Miller got injured I think it's a big ask on a 19 year old . Think that's why we took in a another LB TBH .

The issue wasn’t really the depth. It was the number of players who made up the squad making absolutely no contribution. If we can get rid of McKirdy and Tavares and replace with one player who regularly plays, scores and sets up the odd goal, we’ve improved the squad.

So the issue was the depth ?
No. It was quality. Last day of the season when we needed a goal we had a striker on the bench that we didn’t bring on (Hoppe) because he wasn’t very good. We had a winger in Tavares who couldn’t get in the squad. The number of players signed was fine. The numbers were there, the quality wasn’t.

But Boyle, Myko, and mcgeady were injured. You can't expect Hibs to have 20 players of that quality. We're always going to struggle with them out.
Replace Nisbet, Myko and mcgeady with quality and get Boyle fit. Won't need replacements for nothing contributers like Jair and mckirdy.

In theory we should but it’s not really how it seems to work these days. Kane for example has apparently agreed a deal at Bayern and now the clubs need to do a deal on the fee.

No chance they're getting McGrath and Levitt. Have to admit I couldn't personally care less about McGrath. Really hope we get Levitt though.

It’s only tapping up if it’s done without permission. It’s quite common for selling clubs to allow players to discuss terms before a fee has been agreed.
Sort of makes sense to make sure a suitor can meet a player's aspirations before getting down to the nitty gritty over transfer fees. I suppose it depends on the situation and a relegated team might actually want a deal to happen if they want to raise funds and cut their wage bill.

Doesn’t really.
Selling club will have their price and once a club matches it, the other interested clubs will just agree with the same price. Unfortunately for us it’s not an auction.

I don’t follow?
If club A offers £5m, club B wants to buy him as well, they’d also only need to match the £5m. The price doesn’t go up for every club that matches the first bid as it wouldn’t make any difference to the selling club who he goes to, as long as they get the amount they want.

yes but if the player is under contract both the club and player have to agree the deal. So why would the club not ask the second buyer for more ?

There’s hundreds of different scenarios to this type of thing though. The club aren’t duty bound to accept every bid that comes in that simply matches one that they have initially accepted. They might not want to sell to a certain team, the structure of the payments might be different, a richer team might bid (which the player will probably fancy and in turn the club will want a part of that). A team might come in and bid more with the caveat that the selling team take bids off the table.
Im obviously just chucking things about but interest from multiple teams could definitely help drive the value up IMO.

I was under the impression that players don’t actually speak to the buying club direct before a fee is agreed. It’s the agent who does all the talking to the potential buying club and he sees what he can get and discusses what his client wants.

Why would the selling club limit making profit by doing that? They will want as much as they can get especially if we are getting a fair chunk.

You can't really start a bidding war after accepting 1 offer. Turning round and rejecting it could start some bad relationships with the clubs involved.
Hopefully we can get a bit more, but I'd imagine part of the reason these clubs are interested is because of the low price already discussed.

So we should still hate Crewe for David Platt.
The new bidders are interested because they've seen that the player is available at a price they would be willing to pay. The selling club can still ask the new bidders for more and it's up to the new bidders to decide if that is acceptable.

Exactly. There's no need to accept any offer if it's not good enough. The buying club can either offer more, or walk away and allow another club to buy him for the higher amount.
Once a bid is accepted, there's no need for any club to increase it. The only negotiation left is with the player and agent.

You're right it's usually a 3rd party, quite often a player at the club. Most players have friends at other clubs so a tentative approach is made, e.g., would you be interested etc? Ive even done it a couple of times. It makes sense, there's no point approaching a club if the player himself is not interested in the move.

Correct. There was massive hype built up about them last season by the media etc think I even got brain washed into thinking they were a really good side but there’s been nowhere near the fallout that should’ve been expected after they blew 3rd place.
Imagine the picture that would’ve been painted by the media if it was us who’d thrown away third? Hibs’d it and all that pish

Indeed. Mikey Stewart and co couldn’t help themselves and when things went a bit pear shaped it was all about the injuries etc and no team could cope with that many. Aye nae **** Sherlock. Boyle and Nisbet missing for long periods yet we just went about our business.
Media hardly ever mentioned this.
Hopefully we can get a few more over the line this week and get them announced etc.

Still loads to be done until we have a squad capable of getting 3rd and reaching the Europa Conference group stages.
Expecting a really busy 2-3 weeks leading up the first European game.
My concern is that errors made in the last couple of transfer windows is hindering progress and restricting the club financially.
