Really, that's showing zero ambition whatsoever, gone and never to be heard of again until he comes back and ends up lower half of SPFL, maybe nice lifestyle but he's only 25 and never actually tested himself.
Never tested himself? he left Dundee utd for sporting Lisbon, instead of coming back with his tail between his legs he moved to a smaller team in the Portuguese top league and won player of the year, its a short career he could come back here and watch the ball fly over his head for 3k a week or earn millions in a pretty special part of the world

I’d say going to Portugal at a young age is very much testing himself. He’s now going to another continent and lifestyle. I think he should be commended, and a positive example for Scottish youngsters. If he had simply taken the step up to the Old Firm he’d have been criticised for taking the easy option.

I get the going to Lisbon as a youngster was brave but he's played in their Div 2 the majority of it apart from his very brief spell here. I think he's a talented lad but feel he's never been anywhere near his potential and I'm surprised he's not gone to an English Championship team, or tested himself at a better level than Vancouver, just feel it's a waste of talent.

Tested himself much more than players that spend their whole career in Scotland. Different cultures different languages different styles of football. More Scottish players and people in general should do so.

Nobody calls them that in Portugal. Simply Sporting. Outside Portugal they are known as Sporting Lisbon - the Lisbon branch of the club.
I am a Benfica boy. Similarly, they are not known in Portugal as Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Just Benfica or SL Benfica.

Says permanent and loan deals being discussed, I wonder if Hibs re trying to sell with the option of a season long loan to aid his development, it also means he's get a big bump in wages.

DOIG UPDATE
Watford are NOT in the mix for Josh Doig at the minute, reports claim.
Doig missed the Motherwell win this afternoon as Jack Ross said a move away was 'highly likely.
Watford were amongst a Premier League duo thought to be chasing his £4million signature.
But Adam Leventhal from the Athletic says the Hornets are not one of the two in the hunt.
He tweeted this evening: "Understand Hibs close to an agreement with 2 clubs for sale of Doig.
"Fee likely to be £4-5m. Loads interested during window including Burnley who appear willing to onward loan, with Forest interested.
"WatfordFC not in mix at this point."

Will be sad to see Doig leave, but he seems such a promising talent, I'm sure he's destined for much higher things.
I do hope that the club reinvest the money being brought in. Would love to see us bring a quality CB, whilst replacing Doig at LB, and hopefully bringing in Mueller sooner, and maybe another forward in on loan.
Wouldn't mind seeing the below incomings:
CB - Kerr
LB - Robson (United)
Mueller
ST: McNulty (on loan)
If we were able to get the above in from Doug's fee, and keep our other talents, that would be some window imo.

Robson is a young LB from United, seems to be fairly rated and English clubs are after him I think. Not as good as Doig, but maybe a not bad replacement?

Say we bring in £4m at least for Doig:
McCart £500k

Yeah no idea about actual fee’s but from having a quick read about Gallagher since he mentioned him he is free to go so don’t think they’d be looking for a fee.
Shankland is in the last year of his contract and isn’t hanging them in so I think they’d be lucky to get 750k.

The point is that nearly every superstar footballer started out worth very little or nothing. It may not cost us anything to replace any player we sell, except possibly, time.
Nisbet, Doig, Porteous, Boyle and Doidge are worth many millions to us and what did they collectively cost? Add SJM into the equation and the abilities of our recruitment team becomes very apparent.

It’s a shame Mackie isn’t fit and doesn’t appear to be as he looks a good player to me and could potentially take the position.
For me Doig had showed how important it is having a threat down the left, he has been a fantastic option and single handedly dragged us up the pitch at times. I want another athletic full back the bombs forward and has pace.
A Josh Doig and David Murphy hybrid would be perfect 😁

Booth was young when he was at Hibs and got absolutely ripped apart in a game away to Kilmarnock, I can’t remember the winger but he ended up going down south, it says a lot that he bounced back from that though it took him a while, I agree though we should be looking elsewhere.

Agreed he did look a good player. I think he ended up playing a good chunk of games for Millwall towards the end of last season mind, so reckon he's out of reach.
Once fit, I'd like to see Cadden play at RB

Speaking to a scout friend of mine, mentioned Shankland being on £5000 a week and £5000 a goal at United. No way we will be matching or paying more than that. He’s had a few offers from down south that he’s rejected as it’s still better money at Dundee United.
Also saw him absolutely blazing two Wednesday’s ago in Kitty O’Sheas on Frederick Street. Comes across as a bit of a knob.

I think we will struggle to replace Porteous and Hanlon. Both excellent defenders IMO. I also think our defence record reflected that last season.
They might make some mistakes but if we want ball playing centre halves that comes with the territory IMO.

Comes across as a bit of a knob.
I've got no view on whether he is or not, but when you compare Shankland and Nisbet there are similarities but also huge differences.
Both have had to work hard to get where there are. Many a footballer suffer knockbacks along their career path. It's how they respond to them that matters.
Shankland started off at Queens Park, before earning a dream move to Aberdeen, one of the top teams outside of the Old Firm. He was four years at Aberdeen, playing only 17 games for them, with loans to Dunfermline, St Mirren and Morton, before leaving and joining Ayr United. His move down a level worked for him, for after two years with Ayr left them to join Dundee United, where his career has stagnated a bit. I'd say he's a proven goalscorer, but doesn't have the attitude/skill/luck to make it as a 'great player'. Great in the context of the SPFL. He's been 'lucky' enough to get call ups for Scotland, but has drifted out of the picture of late.
Nisbet started off at Partick Thistle playing only 17 games for them, with loans to East Stirlingshire, Ayr United and Dumbarton. He left Thistle, joining Raith Rovers. One season at Raith Rovers playing in the 3rd tier of Scottish Football, resulted in a move to Dunfermline in the 2nd tier, before joining the Hibees after a single season at Dunfermline. With just one season at the Hibees, he's now an established Scotland player having played three times in Euro 2021. On the basis of yesterday's game, he's now upped his level of performance and he's destined for a big move south (and hopefully not West).
The start of their careers are vey similar. However, one looks to me that he'll only ever be an okay SPFL striker (most of goals have been in the lower levels), whilst the other is getting better with each passing season. Going for Shankland would be a big disappointment to me. All IMO.

I agree to an extent. Shankland can look awful but the one doubt I have is Dun Utd play such a negative style. If Shankland is facing the goal rather than being asked to come short all the time he could look a lot better. The cost and wages would be eye watering though.

None of the 4 are bad players. There's just nobody to threaten their positions at the moment. I also dinnae think the partnership of Porteous and Hanlon works, I think when one has a mistake it causes the other to follow suit. Stronger teams will punish us. Daz is good defensively as he's got a commanding presence but he's getting on and can't be relied on for a whole season.

I know it’s hypothetical and not a binary choice in reality, however if given the choice of second place and fourth place, I couldn’t care less how it was done. Champions league qualifiers and (I think) worst case scenario guaranteed group stage football in Europe until Xmas then give me that second place every day of the week.

Hibs are a measured attacking team regardless of what some people say- but if people are saying they'd rather we were gung-ho every week and winning some but taking a few heavy defeats with the defence being exposed time and time again they're kidding themselves. Same as those who claim they'd accept us being 8th in the league if we won a cup.

Significant six figure sum? He sounds decent but wouldn't imagine he's going to be a first choice player for Celtic? Celtic brought up 2 young boys from Sheffield Wednesday and they weren't in the squad at the weekend. It looks like their squad fillers aren't even good enough these days.

Really didn’t expect him to act in this way, especially as England captain. Perhaps there are other reasons he didn’t turn up today and the whole thing is being thrown out of proportion. There is no way Spurs sell for a penny less than they think he’s worth though regardless of how he goes about it, with 3 years left on his contract the ball is firmly in their court on this one. I will still be surprised if Kane isn’t a Spurs player at the end of the window.

That's all fine and well but they need to start making offers if they're serious about wanting him.
We have some really big games to prepare for and if they're not going to be bidding for him we could be starting him in these European games.

I’m assuming there must be some genuine bids in for him for Josh to be not playing for us ….or else it would seem slightly premature .. surprising no one has come forward yet

I can see it being not much fun at Celtic this season. They'll be miles behind Rangers so the fans will be constantly on the players' back. Doig has plenty of better options.

Celtic can't afford doig. Our asking price is 5 million and we are sticking to that. If we were going to bend at 4 million plus add ons it would be to an English club, no way would we sell to celtic anything less then 5 million, it would only benefit celtic.

Be a very interesting few weeks for the club as I can definitely see Celtic trying to unsettle Nisbet. I can also see The Rangers coming in to try and sign Kevin, especially if they sell Morelos. The Rangers one is interesting as I can see them having more bargaining power - we have done more business with them in the last two seasons and there was a whisper that we were keen on Katic on loan, and they have someone like Itten who has not featured as much for them as he would probably like. Kevin's leanings would probably be towards a move to his boyhood team. I do think The Rangers will test the water though.
For the sake of his development I would be keen, only if we were to sell him, for Nisbet to go down south and try his hand in the EPL. I think he has all the attributes of being a good striker for one of the lower EPL clubs.
Very keen to see how we progress this deal with Planet Football - the Balkan market is one which none of the clubs outwith the Old Firm have tapped into and there are some technically excellent players in their leagues.
What's exciting me so far this season is the professionalism the club have adopted throughout the club, the new media team have been really good and some of the content thus far is particularly high quality.

Gerrard has already shown he sees value in the Scottish market with signing the likes of Ryan Jack, Scott Wright and the fact we have seen recent business with them with Docherty, Murphy and nearly McCrorie, I think he likes the way Hibs play and approach the game. I just can't see Hibs doing business with Celtic.
As for Nisbet being at EPL level, he had a particularly hard time off the field last season yet finished with a great goal tally and as an international striker who is already off the mark at that level. I think he could easily continue his development down there. Ideally he stays another season, bangs them in for us, and it's a bun fight amongst many clubs.......hopefully not the sticky bun fight though :greengrin

I think they'd pay a big fee for someone like Nisbet Billy, especially if they take a big fee for Morelos. I think they are placing a lot of faith in the new striker they've bought but you know you get a player who immediately scores in this league and an additional option when they're playing on four fronts.
I'm only talking hypothetically, I just can't see Celtic paying what we would want, but can see The Rangers doing so for brinksmanship and to work it up their rivals - much like they did years ago when they were 'on top' (but financially doped :cb).
I'll also add I don't want to lose him, I think he should have another good season with Hibs and develop his international career while with us this year.

EPL clubs do that all the time, the only difference is they don't usually recruit from Scotland. It's a no lose situation for The EPL. They pay out pennies, for them, for a potential star. Even if the player doesn't make it his value increases just by being at an EPL club.

I can kind of understand the 3 subs not the limit of 7 as you say that will limit involvement of likely younger players which even if they don't get playing time keeps them involved in the matchday squad. Makes no sense.

Maybe see some movement on Doig today. Would be strange if it didn't happen quickly after the manager's remarks.

Was Drey Wright just dropped from the squad completely against Motherwell?

Probably a knock or a personal issue because the other guys not involved, Gullan, Cadden and Bradley I think, we're all walking about with the squad.
Ross rates Wright imo. Likes that he can play different positions and works hard in them all. He is a good squad player

St Mirren closing in on signing James Scott. Would be a good signing for them
I really hope we've considered, or are considering him, looked a real talent at 'Well.

Thought there would be some movement before Thursday tbh, it could be a massive move for him so he's possibly just taking his time to think things over.

Every chance Gulllan will be back at Raith before end of window.
