I see from that link he has also resigned from the board of The Lyceum Theatre.
These are my thoughts too. I also don’t think we’d pay what St Johnstone would want.
Last year of contract. He would cost c£300k
If/when Porto goes, Kerr is replacing him, almost certain.

Kerr is the exact type of center half I admire. Big dynamic no nonsense powerhouse who can also pop up in the opposition box and score the odd goal. Have to say he is in my opinion a huge upgrade on Porteous. If we can sign Kerr and make a profit on selling Porto then its a win win imo.

Can’t agree that they’d let their double winning captain go for that, last year of his contract or not.

We might need to play the longer game and sign him on a precontract in Jan. Actually think he will sign a new contract with them.

We have had serious issues with bring through young central defence prospects since the emergence of John Blackley. 1971 & 74 we saw Alex Pringle make a few first team appearances and Derek Spalding, the latter making quite a few more, before their careers moved on to Dundee and Chicago respectively.
Craig Paterson looked the as though he would be the best since sloop through the ranks and played over 100 games before departing for Ibrox after around 3 years in the first team. We also had Gordon's Hunter and Rae, who will forever remain in Hibernian folklore but they reigned when we were dominated by "them" and then Tweedy came and went and then disappeared.
To me young Porty will be the best central defender to come through the Hibs ranks since Sloop, over fifty years ago. He has a physical prescience and is comfortable with the ball and can pick a pass, his reading of the game is improving and so is his concentration and awareness. I think in a couple of years when Ryan is the same age as Jason Kerr, there will be a number of people on here, twitter & FB with large amounts of egg on their chin. All IMHO of course.

My opinion too on Porto although I don’t quite go back as far:greengrin Some seem desperate to get rid of him but I would be delighted and hope he is at Hibs next season and beyond.

I accept that he's a physical presence and is good on the ball but I don't accept that his reading of the game, concentration or awareness are improving - I'd say all of these things have regressed a fair bit over the past 6 months or so.
Until then I'd have been inclined to agree with you entirely and I was previously very excited by Porteous as a prospect. I'd also say that whilst I'd have grudgingly accepted he might be a bit rash at times, his awareness, reading of the game and concentration were actually much better than he got credit for.
Of course, there could be valid reasons for the regression. Other teams might have spotted a weakness and started targeting and exploiting him, having become more accustomed to playing against him over a couple of seasons. It might be a simple blip or poorer form that he simply needs to play his way through - the type of thing that happens to every player as they improve. He might be knackered - he played a lot of football last season and the spells where he probably looked worst were that bit before Daz came into the team at the end of January and then at the end of the season he looked shaky again. It might just have been mental fatigue. It might be that he's improved as far as he is going to under our present manager / coaching team and he'll need something or someone else to kick him on a bit further. It might be the attitude thing to do with being around the Scotland squad or getting his head turned by Championship interest.
In order to kick on and improve you have to tackle weakness or underperformance along the way and I think that to improve he needs to be better in the areas mentioned.
I'd love for it to be a bit of poor form, for him to stay with us and to kick on and improve on these weaknesses but I just don't see it happening. I think he'll be offski and I think we need to deal with that.

Unfortunately the Hibs jersey appears to act like kryptonite to players we sign from st Johnstone.
Porteous will be a top player and people will want to retract some of the statements about him in years to come. I’ve never know why some people have to be so negative to a player especially one of our own, some of the criticism he’s came in for is embarrassing. Yea he’s made mistakes as have plenty others but these seem to totally overshadow the very good young player he is. To the point of outgrowing us, I’ve never seen him say this so not sure what that’s all about but one things for sure he will end up at a bigger club than ours before his career ends.
Well said. A lot of the stuff that people have said about Porteous is just happening in their heads.

Porteous is still very young for a CH, in 3 years time he’ll be playing at far level than Kerr. If Hibs sell him I hope it’s for a lot more than £1m. He is still developing and will go onto be a mainstay of Scotland’s defence in the future.

Read about this being in the pipeline a couple of weeks ago, find it strange for them to be sending players to a direct rival of ours after the chat that was out when the partnership was announced, I’m aware we might not have been after someone in that position and I’m aware they need to give their guys exposure but surely they go somewhere else than to strengthen a rival

Attacking mid, I know it’s dependant on what JR is looking for etc but they surely attempt to shift him out on loan to another league? How does them strengthening a league rival of ours constitute as ‘working together to drive both clubs forwards’ ?

Sure he’s an attacking midfielder. Probably looking for him to start every week and we can’t really offer that with Scott Allan in the squad.

Can’t complain about him going to Aberdeen.
Going by Ross this season we have Allan, Mallan, Irvine, Magennis and Murphy who can play that position.

Why can’t we? I’m aware that every player Brighton want to send out won’t be suitable for us however there are a fair amount of clubs to choose from in the UK why a direct rival of a club there supposed to have a strategic partnership with? Mental IMO

I think Allan as the number ten in front of Irvine and Gogic would’ve been a good mix in midfield. It looked good with Murphy in there for a couple of games before Newell came back.
In terms of signings I thought we might’ve had one or two more by now. Certainly being patient.

Agree with others - we have some good individual midfielders when fit but our midfield isn’t good enough and needs improved. We can’t expect to go in with same central players next season surely - we need an upgrade.

Celtic look utterly determined to reduce their standing in the game. It’s all got a bit of an Arsenal over the last 10-15 years feel to it, like they’re determined to be hamstrung by design rather than by accident.

If they’re looking at moving on Edouard, Griffiths and Ateji(is he still there?), and Wyke is coming in as part of the overhaul then that’s not terrible, but he can’t be the direct first choice replacement for Edouard.

How many are good enough currently to play in the EPL week in week out?
For me Aribo, Kamara, Tavernier, Goldson, Barisic, Kent, Moreleos and Helander. They also have players who probably couldn't get a game in the EPL these days but have hundreds of games at that level between them e.g. Davis, Defoe and Arfield. I think they have atleast half a team that could easily play at that level.

Tavernier, goldson, barisic, Kent, kamara, Morelos would all get plenty game time at sides like palace, Southampton or Burnley imo.
Arfield and Davis are obviously past their prime but both have plenty of premier League appearances.
:agree:
Rangers have a good 5 or 6 players who start every week who would easily make it in the EPL imo.

I don’t think he’s better than Luton just now. He’ll play regularly at English Championship level, and if you do well there you can get picked up into the Prem.

Hibs have no chance in competing with the gelt an English Championship club can offer.

Rose will be a first team starter.
I would imagine any team in the premier league looking to sign Doig isn’t looking at him to go straight into the first team at his age, especially given he’s only had one full season in a different league.
He will be a young talent for the future who will likely be loaned out or integrated into the team gradually.

Heard Hibs were interested in signing Liam Henderson when his loan deal was up in 2016.
Celtic at the time were cranky and still are over losing out on Andy Robertson and were asking silly money for a player with his experience at the time.
Thought he was a bit raw and a work in progress when he was at Hibs but there was the making of a quality player there.
By this time I thought he would be further on his career and being looked at for a place in a Scotland squad.

Good luck to Fraser. Always liked him but never just had enough to get to the top level.
Thought at the time his long contract was a bit strange, he was a decent prospect but never really showed anything outstanding, another youngster who never pushed on to that next level unlike Porteous and Doig. Good luck to the lad and Killie will be a good move for him, surprised it's a free though.
The Hibs statement on the transfer heavily suggests there is some form of buy back option or a sell on percentage involved in the deal

Hibs have retained an interest so will be a sell on or buy back type deal I’d imagine now likely a sell on as not sure how common the latter actually is

We might get a couple of loan signings out of it but my reading of it was that it was far more of a strategic, learning partnership.

Great move for Fraser. Can get on with his playing career now after winning a move to a good club based on his performances and ability. Will find his level in the next 2 years.
A year in the Championship then back to the top league. Looking forward to seeing how he does.

I think he will Billy.
He knows Kilmarnock want him for their first team and that removes previous uncertainty.
Will still have to strive to improve but will do it as an integral part of a first team squad.
I don't think people appreciate just how hard it is for young players to make a full time living out of the game.
He and we will find out over the next 2 years whether he is destined be a top 6 or bottom 6 player.

Wish Fraser Murray well for his future.
Totally agree with you about how hard it is for young players to progress in the game.
Hibs youth development has not been productive over and beyond the last decade in that the last player they good gelt for was Steven Fletcher and that was some time ago.
The rumoured offers for Ryan Porteous seem to be around the million mark and would think that Hibs should be looking for a bit more for a player they’ve developed over quite a long period.

Fraser lost a year of football with a long term groin injury, when Lennon wanted to play him.
Unfortunately Hecky then came in and didn’t play many, or any of the young lads
We’ve got a promising under 18 group, so it makes sense for the likes of Fraser etc to move on, gives the younger ones an opportunity

Pluses and minuses on both
If they go out on loan, playing competitive football, but you can’t play them, and training will be patchy, as they will be training with 2 teams
A development league means they can train all week with the 1st team, but maybe the level of football won’t be so good

Central midfield wasn't their issue. Thiago, Henderson and Fabinho is still a very good midfield. Wijnaldum is a big miss, though. I do agree they should be after a player, but having Fabinho back in there and Van Dijk fit will be a much bigger difference than getting McGinn would.

McGinn is 4/5 years younger than Thiago & Henderson & there must also be question marks over long term injury impact. Makes perfect sense to me, 1st bid of £100m should do it!
