Ron Gordon has said we are in no rush to sell and we want to improve as a team
So I struggle to see why he would sanction four of our better players being sold in one window Like others have said it would be hard to replace so many with like fir like But it feels like we aren’t in control because of circumstance
Clearly a bid of £500,000 fir Boyle puts the ball in his court ,and Irvine is Free to move on
The Club have said they will hold crunch talks with Nisbet so to me that indicates they will make a new contract offer to try and keep him another season But it may be his head is already turned and he will indicate he wants a move
Doig has indicated he is happy to stay another Season but it may be the highest bid for any player will be Doig and the money being talked about will be needed to reinvest

I don't even think we have any exclusive agreement with Brighton when it comes to players. Unless i've missed that, there was no mention of that in the press release.Feels like one of those student exchange type things we used to do years ago, Hibs get to go to Brighton for a fortnight's holiday then they come up to Edinburgh for the same. Might get a wee twinning plaque as well. Not seen much else so far.[emoji6]

He’s not a kid any more. Either he’s ready to be our left back or he should be moved on.
Agree with you here. We seem to have a lot of young players who we hold onto way beyond the point you’d hope they would make an impact in the first team.
Play them or let them go.

Best to loan him out and get him back when he is ready to compete
Let’s see how he shapes up pre-season first
Built like a brick s#*t house wand of a left peg did well at Dundee by all accounts
If he is shipped out again he ain’t gonna make it here
Now or never the boy will know that himself

Such a strange situation.
That’s our “partners” now loaned two players out to Aberdeen & Hearts. Presumably strengthening them in the process
I’m not convinced with any of these partnership deals at all. Apart from a lot of management speak, nobody has been very clear about what the goals are of the partnerships. I give it time to see if they are worth the money.
Also, Doidge is a good player and Nisbett is a good player and anybody who wants rid of either player is an idiot.

For all we know, Brighton may have touted players, which we have rejected.

Yep - 21 years old. Has to be playing now.
He’s 23 in November.

Unless they’ve been planted to cause maximum disruption in both camps? Eh eh?
Maybe the whole thing is a ruse?
Brighton: we’ve got a load of players we want rid of.
Hibs: we’ve got neighbours who are obsessed with us and Aberdeen who want to sign everyone we’re linked with. Let’s announce a ‘strategic partnership’ and you’ll move them on in no time.

Neither am I but I’m pretty sure the wording of the press release at the time referred to mutual benefits to both clubs of the development of players, or words to that effect.

We do and I’d happily see him at right back. However, we played him (when fit) wide right midfield.
This was either cover for Boyle or allowed him to play further forward, because we didn’t have many other options up front.
A big summer for us, looks like we will need to make a few key signings.

I think Mackie was injured for most of his time at Dundee. My recollection is that he wasn´t held in high regard by their fans when he did play.
I´d love him to prove me wrong, but he´s never impressed me when he´s played at Hibs.

Unless the offers are jaw droppingly insane, I don’t want any of our top players to go. Having 4 or 5 million in your transfer kitty is absolutely no guarantee of success for a club like Hibs as we enter the lottery of replacing the quality we have with better.
Clearly talented players like Nisbet and Doig are really difficult to replace, we have them on long term contracts, so they have to play and play well to get their next move, which they’re eventually entitled to. If a player’s contract is nearly up and he wants to go, then of course, I’m interested in the club doing the right deal. (I don’t even want big Doidge to go - a player like him is difficult to find with limited finances.)
But as a fan who buys a season ticket and turns up to support every fortnight, contributes to HSL, buys anything Hibs or green to give a bit more, I want to see the best players running out the tunnel, not work out the finances of the club. That’s the boards job.
For what it’s worth, I think Doig is one of the best young players I’ve seen in a Hibs jersey for many a year. Want to see a lot more of him before he moves on.

I think he looks ok with the ball, and it's clear that he can ping a pass. Defensively though, positionally, nowhere near the standard of a team at our level.

To progress as a club we have to sell players for profit and reinvest in players with potential that we wouldn't have been able to afford without sales. Rinse and repeat.
The team identifying players has the most important job.

I doubt it. He looks nowhere near good enough. When a player goes on loan to a lower league club, you want to see them tearing it up. Doesn’t sound like that’s happened.

Certainly a decent player on his day but we have just signed a young left winger and we already have Murphy and Boyle. Don't think we need any more wingers.
Slightly disappointed to see that the lad Connor Shields signed for Motherwell from QOTS. I thought he could potentially "do a Nisbet" and would have been a decent option as a squad player.

They had an awful lot of work to do to get their team scoring goals. They look like they've attempted to address that and might have managed but they've not really signed anyone that has me overly concerned, albeit there are one or two I know little about.
People seem to have very short memories re Sean Mackie. He actually replaced Josh in our LC tie against Dundee when score was 1-1, we won 4-1. He kept his place for next 3 games with Josh on bench then unfortunately Sean got injured. This time last year most people on here had not heard of Josh, now it seems he's indispensible. Personally I think Josh is the player we would miss least. He's a great young prospect but left backs are much easier to replace than strikers & it's quite possible that Mackie, if fit & given opportunity, would be a decent replacement. I have no idea who could replace Nisbet & (other than LG) I've not seen any names mentioned on here.

I agree with every word of your post.
Re Mackie, he didn't impress me at Dundee before his bad injury.
But
To my eyes last season he was a very strong athletic player and really looked the part when he came into the team.
It was obvious to me he had put massive work in during his rehab and his play was more mature than before..
It was massively sad after looking so impressive that he missed the last 5 months of the season with injury.
What is a worry is we didn't see him get injured but it must have been something significant yet Hibs have been very quiet on it's nature with my only recollection a brief indication of a thigh injury.

Glad you mentioned about Mackie coming in, doing well and keeping Doig out the team.Thought I’d imagined it:greengrin Think there was chat at the time that Mackie was the better option of the two. I reckon there’s some revisionism going on with regards to how good Mackie is. He never managed to oust Stevenson out of a starting place so the idea of him stepping into the team if Doig moves on is a bit far-fetched to me. He’s a decent back up but we’d need to bring in another LB if Doig’s sold

Boyle i dont think will leave and Doidge is not leaving this window.

He’s not a kid any more. Either he’s ready to be our left back or he should be moved on.
Some footballers take more time than others to make it, the boy looks like he has a lot about him to be given a chance to blossom. Vardy was 25 and still playing non league football for Fleetwood 2 years later he was playing in the Premier League.

Not at all. Some are determined that he will definitely be first choice. All the noises Jack Ross made last year suggested he wanted Macey to stay but would still be looking for another keeper.
He wasn’t first choice last year so it would be a little odd just to accept not replacing Rocky if we could.
If he’s our first choice then great but I don’t think that is certain.

To progress as a club we have to sell players for profit and reinvest in players with potential that we wouldn't have been able to afford without sales. Rinse and repeat.
The team identifying players has the most important job.
Of course every team needs freshened up but you want to ‘progress as a club’.? - try and hang onto your best players as long as possible and get out of the ‘rinse and repeat’ mentality. We are fans and when we line up in our first derby we should want talent like Doig and Nisbet lining up against them. We’ve hardly seen these guys. If the club needs the transfer money to stay afloat that’s a different story.
Replacements are hard to find, even with £5m or so in your pocket. Compare our midfield a few year ago with the likes of McGinn, McGeouch, Fyvie, Bartley, Henderson and the difficulty we have had getting even close to that group, even with money to spend.

We don’t know if they were interested anyway but wouldn’t have thought he’d be close to their immediate plans if they were.
He’d be one for the future for them or any EPL team so other first team signings they make I don’t think would have any impact on whether they move for him or not.
If he’s been identified by any of these clubs it’ll be a case of getting him before one of the other clubs do as opposed to thinking he’s ready now.

See below - there were a few similar articles later too when talking about Rocky probably going - it has been his plan to keep both anyway.
Hibs boss Jack Ross admits he hopes to keep Matt Macey and Kevin Dabrowski this summer.
Both goalkeepers are out-of-contract at the end of the season and with Ofir Marciano already deciding to leave Easter Road,Hibs are on the lookout for a new first choice.
Macey joined from Arsenal in January and played a couple of games before Marciano was brought back in, while Dabrowski impressed on loan at Dumbarton but is yet to make his debut.
Contract talks are ongoing with both players but Ross also revealed he could look to strengthen the goalkeeping department further too if it's needed.
Ross told the Scotsman: “He (Macey) played a couple of games when he first came up and only lost his place because Ofir’s consistent form over the season had earned him the right to come back in.
“But I think he showed in those games and in training that he is a very good goalkeeper and as we look to strengthen that department we would like to keep him at the club. We have had dialogue already and that is ongoing.
“We know that we got a little bit lucky in terms of being able to bring him to the club in January. At that stage we needed to do something to bring a new keeper in but to get someone of Matt’s character and ability was good for us.
“I think he was able to see the bigger picture as well, in terms of looking at Ofir’s situation, and thinking ‘if i can impress enough then it could benefit me long-term’ and he has definitely done that. Temperament wise, how he is around the club, I think he has enjoyed it a huge amount which is encouraging for us.
“And, Kevin is another that we want to keep at the club so discussions are ongoing with him as well.
“He was a little bit unfortunate that we had to bring him back from his loan spell, albeit that the season was curtailed at that point anyway. Ideally, we would have put him back out for this remaining period but going into this important last part of the season I think we had to be absolutely sure that we had enough cover in the goalkeeping department.
“But, that initial loan spell was very good for him. He was very impressive in his time at Dumbarton and he proved he was capable of playing first team football at a good level.
“If we were able to keep both of them then that would give me some comfort and even with Ofir leaving, and before this season has even ended, we would still have a goalkeeping department that is looking healthy.
“And then we can debate whether we need to continue strengthening it in any way over the coming weeks and months.”

Countdown for Ryan Porteous in Besiktas has made a big progress for the Scottish defender Porteous, which it has been on the agenda before. A great deal has been reached with the 22-year-old player wearing the Hibernian jersey, the countdown has begun.
Beşiktaş Management, which signed a contract with Sergen Yalçın, is now preparing to step on the gas for the transfer… Black and White players have come a long way in their meetings with Ryan Porteous, a young defender wearing the jersey of Hibernian, one of the Scottish teams, which was on the agenda. In line with the latest developments, it was stated that the 22-year-old football player was almost dying to wear the Beşiktaş jersey. In this direction, an agreement was reached with the Scottish football player and his club on every issue. It was reported that while there were only minor roughnesses, it was a matter of time before the signatures were signed. They will take local defender Attracting attention with his strong physique, Porteous could play on both sides of the defense, while it was learned that the star player Sergen Yalçın and his team also wanted a lot. In the meantime, it is among the news that Black Eagle will make attempts to add a local defender to its squad in the coming days. Besiktas Newspaper

Thanks Andy, much appreciated. I must confess however there was nothing in the article to make me think another potential 1st choice keeper would be a priority. I could see us bringing in a Ross Laidlaw type as back up but I would be astonished if we don't start season with Macey as #1.

Equally my only point has been that nothing has been said to indicate Macey was going to be nailed on first choice. A few have suggested he wouldn’t have signed unless that had been indicated.
We might or might not go out and get a new number one or another back up back Ross clearly wanted both the current keepers here anyway. He had talked about them both staying when it was also still not known on Rocky.
Still suspect if we can get even better in then we will. For all he did well in the cup games he was a back up keeper last year and we ordinarily would want to keep improving.

Minor roughness sounds ideal.
I think it’s clearer in Macey and JR’s actions that he is our number 1.
Macey only signed the longer term deal once it was confirmed Marciano would be leaving. Suggests to me that he isn’t here to be a back-up and would only have committed to the contract with the intention of being first choice. The fact that JR stuck by him for the cup semi & final would also suggest that JR see him as a first choice keeper as well.
If Dabrowski moves out on loan again this season then we will probably sign another keeper but I doubt they will be brought in on the basis of being first choice ahead of Macey

He is just now because we don’t have anyone else.
After Rocky decided he was leaving, Ross was still talking about another keeper. After Rocky decided he was leaving, Macey was still back up. He was promised cup games, the only actions we know just now are that he gave him those cup games.
Remains to be seen whether Ross wants to further improve the options or not but I don’t think anything that’s happening or not happening just now makes that any clearer.
He was here for half a season and we played someone else so I’d hope we still, like every position, want to fill it with the best we can when we lose a first choice.

I saw nothing from Macey's performances to suggest that he was an obvious downgrade on Rocky, therefore he deserves the opportunity to make the spot his own.
Obviously if he doesn't take that opportunity then we might need to revisit the situation in future.
I've only ever heard good things about Dabrowski too, he deserves the chance to challenge Macey for the number one spot.
Our priorities this summer will be primarily to adequately replace anyone who leaves and I'm still not convinced we've managed to get the blend right in midfield, so we might need to lose and gain a few who play in the middle of the park.
I'm excited about McKay though, I think the signing of him along with getting Macey tied down has given us a solid enough starting point.

Always thought he was an attacking midfield player, At Mirren fans reckon he's a deep lying playmaker . They also think he a great first couple of months and has been murder since. So to answer your question I have no idea 😅

Jake Doyle Hayes is a good player.
St Mirren fans were waxing lyrical about him and were saying he was an upgrade on Magennis.
A proper ball playing centre mid.
I’d imagine him coming in means Mallan leaving.
Not the type of player I expected Ross to go for as a centre mid.
Another St Mirren player 👀

I know we need to judge this player on his own merits and it sounds like he might be decent which is all that matters really.

Let’s give the guy a chance, FFS he’s not even signed and people are moaning. Realistically what club/s should Hibs be signing players from? Outside of the Old Firm every player that’s doing well in Scotland should be a target for Hibs. Hibs also give players a good platform to play on in front of a decent crowd and the chance to move on to richer clubs.

Cant say he has stood out on the limited times I have watched St Mirren but either way I hope we are still looking for a centre midfielder who will chip in with more goals. Doyle-Hayes has scored 2 goals in 69 appearances so this doesn’t help our biggest problem in midfield imo. Not to say that makes him a bad signing of course.

I think said reporter is trying to pull our chain.
A similar line we have about Aberdeen signing all the players we are interested in. In St Mirrens case it's us signing all their players.
FWIW I don't think he is better than the midfielders we have.
The only appeal is he will play for less wages if we move some of the current high wage earners on and there is possibility of developing JDH and selling him on later for a profit. This appears to be be what we are all about now. Ron will be gagging to get big earners like Mallan & Allan of the wage bill.

I would have thought that if there was even half a chance of the club renewing his contract he'd be one of the first ones back to Lennoxtown trying to prove himself and earn it. But it says to me Celtic have told him thanks but no thanks.
If it's officially over for him at Celtic the club should be inviting him in for pre-season with us to help him out, means we get a look at him and get him up to speed quicker if we did sign him and it can't hurt having someone of his ability training with some of the guys as well for a few weeks at least.

JDH is certainly not the answer to that particular issue... Plays very deep, takes the ball off the centre-halves then usually plays a safe pass to one of the full-backs. A bit of dig about him, but it does seem an odd one given we are overrun with central midfielders and he's not an obvious upgrade on any of them.
