As do the playoffs it's too early to tell but the usual suspects will no doubt be there like new England and the colts.

I think we have a good chance to do it all over again this year as think we may only have gotten better during the off season. Can't wait to go over and see us beat the Vikings and favre again.

REALLY excited about both starting, but more so (as usual) about the NCAA.

The Gators/Crimson Tide/Tigers/Buckeyes will all be undoubted favourites to take the national championship this year, though Florida will be a VERY different side without Tebow.

I don't expect us (Michigan) to have a great year, though I do expect better than last year. Going to the Big House NEXT season to see the Michigan vs Ohio State game, which will be EPIC!

As for the NFL - I'm originally from Newport, RI., so I'm a HUGE New England fan. I can't see us winning anything this season, though as ever, I would at least expect us to win division. Not quite sure who I fancy this season for the Superbowl. The usual suspects will be around (Colts, Giants, Chargers, Steelers, Pats), but I can't see the Saints repeating their feat again this year.

There is nothing better than NCAA. If you can get into it then stick with it. Tops the NFL by some and more. It can be quite hard to follow though as there are that many divisons and the way they work out the eventual winners can be very confusing. Not sure if allowed to premote but get your self over to nfluk.com. Loads of info regarding all things american football and the forum is great. Got a whole section covering the NCAA and you will be made more than welcome.
ESPN have got MNF this year which is great news and they also cover the ncaa, showing a lot of their games.
If you looking for a NCAA team to follow give us your criteria and we will point you in the right direction:thumbsup:.
As for the Superbowl you will be hard prest to see past the Jets/Ravens in the AFC and in the NFC you looking at the Packers and maybe the Saints.
If your looking for a long shot go for the Cardinals.
Can't wait for the season to start and just putting the Jets game on the now:greengrin.

Does anyone on here play the fantasy football?

College wise, I am following NC State because my friend goes there. I am looking forward to seeing some good college ball this year.

NFL wise... I am not sure our boys (the Pats) will do well this year Scott, Miami have improved and the Jets have made some top signings and had a decent defense last year... It is going to be alot tougher than previous years.

I quite fancy the Ravens to go all the way this year... Although I hope Brady takes us all the way again...

I'm a little unsure myself to be honest. We didn't benefit from the return of Brady last year, as he still looked a little defensive on his knee. However, we've made some good acquisitions in the draft and haven't lost any MAJOR players.

The Jets have been here before - they make a habit of signing big names who fail to cut the mustard. Having said that, I do think Tomlinson and Taylor will be big signings for them.

I don't think we'll finish bottom of the division - if we can get Brady working early on and the new defensive line gels quickly enough, we could have a very solid season.

Only time will tell though - our pre-season hasn't been a disaster, with us chalking up wins vs the Saints (in Foxborough) and crushing the Falcons in Atlanta. We narrowly lost to the Cards at home, but by 1 point, in what was a high scoring affair.

Our key problem in pre-season has been the number of 1st downs we've been giving up!

Can't wait for Saturday!

ESPN America is featuring 3 games from the opening day of the NCAA College season:

5pm: Miami (OH) vs Florida Gators - be very interesting to see how Florida do without their star QB, Tebow, who's moved onto bigger and better things in the NFL.

8pm: Connecticut vs Michigan! - not often we actually feature these days, following some very poor seasons back to back, but we kick the season off at home in the Big House vs a very strong looking Huskies organisation. I fully expect to see us have a mediocre season, culminating in a defeat at Ohio State, but hopefully we can have one televised win!

1am: Oregon State vs TCU - I have a very close friend and some research colleagues at OSU, so if I'm still awake enough, I'll stay up and watch the Beavers open their season against the TCU Horned Frogs (only Texans...)

NFL doesn't kick off till next week. Sky got Vikings v Saints a week tomorrow to kick it all of. They showing Panthers v Giants and 49ERS V Seahawks on the Sunday.
ESPN have the big game of the week Ravens V Jets on the Monday.
There is nothing fixed yet for SNF which channel five had but I'm told there could be something in the running. If I hear anything will post it.

Gators look pish :tee hee:

They're certainly struggling to get any offense going, though I don't think Brantley is to blame - he looks very comfortable at the QB - Pouncey just cannot snap the ball properly - he's to eager to stand upright and block, so he's continually throwing it low!

They don't look themselves, but you can see why they're ranked 4 - clinical when the opportunities present themselves.

Miami (OH) don't look bad - their offense has cost them the 3 scores they're currently down more than their defense. Good field position here in the middle of the 3rd, but Florida's defense look solid.

Sylar

Samford 3-42 Florida State
Yougstown State 7-30 Penn State
Miami (OH) 9-21 Florida
Eastern Illinois 7-30 Iowa
La Lafayette 7-31 Georgia
South Caroline State 3-20 Georgia Tech
Western Michigan 13-35 Michigan State
Weber State 10-21 Boston College

On Thursday night there were also a few games - not sure why the OSU vs Marshall game or the USC vs Hawaii games weren't broadcast, as they were both on ESPN.

Anyway:

Ohio State 45-7 Marshall
Florida A&M 0-45 Miami (FL)
USC 49-36 Hawaii
Pittsburgh 24-27 Utah

Yes and no actually. We look a LOT better than last year, but the latter part of the 2nd quarter gives cause for concern.

Our offensive line is a fantastic looking unit and Robinson/Shaw have had a superb game thus far.

Hoping we can tighten up our defense a little in the second half, but overall, quite proud of them thus far!

I did read your post just after you submitted it, but knowing Michigan and Rodriguez' record in Ann Arbor in recent years, I felt it best to wait til half time to reply, so my over-excited state of mind at 21-0 wouldn't come back and bite me in the ass.

As we're a minute and thirty away from the end, I've been delighted with out opening day performance. Superb offense, solid defense (aided by the amount of time the offense maintained possession), good clock management and an astonishing rate of 3rd down completions.

A strong offense will properly test us later in the sense, as there ARE obvious weaknesses, but I'm happy to have seen us win, as no doubt this will be one of only 2 televised games (unless they show the Michigan State or Iowa game), with Ohio State being the other, and that's not likely to be pretty in Columbus.

Record breaking attendence (113k), school record breaking QB rushing yards and a 20 point margin - can't ask for much more on opening day! :greengrin:thumbsup:

Bring on the Fighting Irish

No real shock at all to be honest. Boise State aren't ranked 3 in the nation for no reason.

It was a really good game actually, despite a very one-sided first quarter!

Thought they looked pretty good to be honest - they handled the VT offense quite well, so they won't come up against MUCH better, save one or two ties.

Great news about Revis. Not sure about Sanchez though. Have you been watching Hard Knocks? That and pre-season do not fill me with confidence regarding him. We will know within the next 3 weeks if we have a chance of making it. 3 hard, hard games to start the season.

Superb game thus far - the Miami vs OSU game is also very good, with both teams well matched.

Amazing how one player has sparked Notre Dame into life. 2 failed drives for us in the opening of the 3rd, whilst Notre Dame have forced a TD and have the ball again.

We're struggling to get going again!

Ohio State pick-off a 3rd and goal and return it to the Miami 25.

BIG mistake on the pass.

Michigan 28-24 Notre Dame: Final

Notre Dame took the lead with 3 minutes remaining, before our sensational QB Denard Robinson took us on a 76 yard drive to take the lead with 20 seconds remaining. Notre Dame made a good drive at the goal in those 20 seconds (aided by a stupid penalty for a personal foul), but failed to convert as the clock hit zero!

Michigan 2-0-0! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Do you think Favre will be 1 season too many?

Said at the time it was a bad move and going by what I saw the other night I stand by it.

Thankfully all sorted now

Feeling confident this season about the Jets with Rex Ryan at the helm, the Revis situation sorted and Sanchez going into his second year - should be enough to hold off the Dolphins for the division. Roll on Monday.

What I tell you about Sanchez :grr:. Our O was horrible last night. 6 first downs in the whole game, not good enough. If we keep playing like that we will be lucky to come 3rd in the east let alone make a push for the big one.
Couldn't believe the calls made on our last set of downs last night.

No but I don't think Ryan will let him throw too much to be honest.

I wouldn't let him throw it either, but we don't look like we've got much of a running game. Greene is awful and still can't believe we let Jones go.

Did anyone watch the Chiefs game? Got to say I thought they looked quite good.

Will probably do what I done last week and watch the Michigan game via an online stream and have the Florida @ Tennessee game on ESPN America.

Mixed feelings about the Sunday - We looked sh*t hot against Cincinnati last week, whilst the Jets looked absolutely pitiful against the Ravens. Hopefully we can do the business, but it's a big ask in the Meadowlands, even against Sanchez.

Looking forward to it and worrying about it in equal measures!

Pretty well balanced first half of football in the New Meadowlands, with the Patriots leading 14-10 at the half.

Sanchez looks a lot better than last week, but his offensive line let him down in the early part of the half, with only 3 snaps taken during the 1st quarter. He also rallied well to get them into field goal range just as the half expired, to keep them in the game.

I'm FAIRLY happy with how we're playing. Brady has looked comfortable, with Volmer and Faulk providing some very good coverage. His passing has looked very comfortable and he's changed plays well at the line. The pass to Moss for the TD was absolutely brilliant, not to mention the catch from Moss - one handed over the head of the ever-arrogant Revis.

Hopefully we can improve on our second half from last week and edge this out. It would be nice to host the Bills next week at 2-0 but the Jets are playing some nice stuff thus far.

Remember there's a reason that Kyle Wilson was our 1st draft pick this year. As for Revis, we went through the whole of pre-season without him so while it was a suprise it wasn't a huge one. Got to say the 1 handed catch Moss made for the TD was great play.
If I'm honest the Pats should have had the game done and dusted end of first quarter. Rem they missed a field goal and should have been 10 points up. We only had one set of downs, Sanchez's first play was almost picked and we had the ball for a grand total of 1min 2 seconds. Add all that to last week and you would never have thought the Jets O had it in them. Got to say I was surprised at how well Sanchez turned it around and he played great but what about LT. He has been amazing since he came to us and Chargers fans must be pig sick. If he keeps it up all season he is on course for the Pro bowl and maybe even the leagues mvp. Very sad to read that Broncos WR Kenny McKinley has been found dead at his home in Colorado, through a suspected self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

He looked a great prospect with them last season, playing a few times as a rookie, but he was injured and placed on their reserve back in December.

He was only 23 - tragic.

Awesome  (not aimed at you, but the fact) - Sky Sports seem to go through phases with various teams. Last season, it was the Cowboys and Giants, this year it seems to be the Jets and Saints. Good for those who follow them, a nonsense for those of us who despise them!

He'll be back next week - just a twisted knee in the second - he was back on his feet and walking around the line with a headset on through the second and said he was fine when interviewed at the end of the game. Forcier getting hurt as well was a bit of a blow, but he also didn't seem too bad.

Very tempted to stay up and watch the Jets game tonight. I really must start getting into college football, always find it really difficult to get my head round how the playoffs work; I've been following St Johns in basketball for a couple of years but they don't have a football team :grr:

I'm not going to bother - should be a cracking game, but a) I'm up at 5.30 tomorrow, and b) It's the Jets and Dolphins :greengrin

If you end up supporting Ohio State, I'm labelling you as a glory hunter :greengrin

We had to work hard for our win over Buffalo tonight, in a game I thought should have been fairly straight forward.

Some game in the Superdome - into 4 remaining minutes of OT, with the Saints having missed a 29 yard field goal attempt to win it. Falcons need to burn up some time before scoring on their drive here...

Wooft! Falcons stun the Saints in the Dome, kicking a 47 yard field goal in overtime. Prior to the kick, they had a false start, getting back from 42 yards to 47, but he held his nerve and popped it straight through! Huge result for Atlanta.

Some results from tonight:

Tennessee Giants 29-10 New York Giants
Pittsburgh Steelers 38-13 Tampa Bay Bucs
Cincinnati Bengals 20-7 Carolina Panthers
Baltimore Ravens 24-17 Cleveland Browns
Dallas Cowboys 27-13 Houston Texans
Kansas City Chiefs 31-10 San Francisco 49'ers
Minnesota Vikings 24-10 Detroit Lions
Buffalo Bills 30-38 New England Patriots
Atlanta Falcons 27-24 New Orleans Saints (OT)

Currently:

Indianapolis Colts 3-0 Denver Broncos
Washington Redskins 0-14 St Louis Rams
Philadelphia Eagles 0-7 Jacksonville Jaguars
Oakland Raiders 7-7 Arizona Cardinals
San Diego Chargers 0-0 Seattle Seahawks

Later:

New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins

Well, at least you're consistent with the New York area teams, save the Pacers - I know a guy from Uni who's a Giants, Yankees, Penguins and Lakers fan - go figure...

Plenty of New York teams, if you do feel you have some connection/reason for chosing teams from here.

Rutgers (NJ), Syracuse, Army, Columbia, St John Fisher Cardinals to name some of the more well known sides...

Just out of interest, why not the Knicks or the Nets (I know they're NJ, but potato, potAto)

Two words - Reggie Miller! Loved that guy when I was growing up. I guess it would have been the Nets otherwise.

I've just got into American Football this week. Went round my mate's house for a game of Fifa and ended up playing Madden all week. I'd only ever watched one game, when the Giants were in the Super Bowl, just because Tynes is their kicker! I didn't really have a clue what was going on but now I appreciate the strategy a bit more I find it actually a decent sport.

Was in the pub earlier and enjoyed the game that went to OT that was on although I have no idea who it was between, and the Dolphins-Jets game is keeping me captivated - which is a problem because I can't switch it off but I have a lecture at 9am. Just grab some coffees in the morning! :greengrin

3 teams sitting at 2-0 now - it's going to be a very hard fought division this year, with second place likely taking the Wild card.

Though I won't easily admit it, it was the result I was hoping for before kick off. Yeuch - I feel grimey even saying that! :greengrin

I think the Patriots will get another 2 - vs the Dolphins and vs the Colts. If they DON'T show those games, I'll go spare.

Pleased with how we've started, but the second half is going to be the hardest of our schedule. At Indiana next weekend then we host the Spartans in Ann Arbor. Should be able to see both of these, as the Indiana game is on ESPN2 and the Michigan State game SHOULD be on ESPN America.

[BIG Upset] UCLA 34-12 Texas (7)

Is the game next week SNF or MNF? If not I got some bad news for you cause it's not going to be on sky.

Now, now it's the same for all of us. Second half of the season is going to be very intresting. Just a pitty you will be out of it by the time you play us.

What you make of the Longhorns? Very, very surprised at the result. UCLA are utter rubbish.

The game is Monday night next week, so will be on ESPN (or Channel 4). Either way, it should be broadcast - 8.30pm (ET) start though, so being awake might be a whole other problem :greengrin

If we can keep putting numbers up on our offense, we might still be thereabouts when we come to play you - The fact that we have both Michigan State and Iowa in Ann Arbor is a bonus and Penn State haven't looked fantastic thus far, though they're still 3-1 and I can't really see us doing much against them! Wisconsin will probably be a right-off, as they look good right now.

I don't think Texas are the team they were last season - I saw them play Texas Tech and thought their defense had a few gaping holes in it then. UCLA aren't ranked though, so it was a pretty big upset!

I've never really been able to get into the NBA in all honesty. One of my closest friends lives in Ohio (don't worry, he's originally from the Lakes, so is a Michigan fan!) is a Pistons fan - he tried to get me into it, when they were in the playoffs against the Celtics a couple of years back, but I just didn't really enjoy it. I've been along to the Amway Arena to watch the Magic a couple of times, and I've enjoyed the experience, but still wouldn't call myself an Orlando fan.

It's unavoidable I'm afraid - it's like a rite of initiation when supporting Michigan :greengrin!

In all seriousness, I was in Columbus a couple of years ago for the big one - didn't have tickets, but we went along to the stadium and watched in the huge square outside, where they had big TV's and thousands of people - I was amongst a fairly sizable group of Wolverine fans and the atmosphere was twice as intimidating as ANY Edinburgh derby I've ever been to - was actually glad we didn't win in the end (it was a pretty close run affair if I recall), as all hell would have broken loose!

Good for you. At least you won't be labeled a glory hunter :greengrin. I got to be honest though and say they might be a tad hard to follow and I don't think you will get the whole experience if you stick with them. Like I say it's just an opinion but coming from the UK and having no ties I think it's better to go with a bigger team when it comes to college football. You get bigger games, bigger crowds, better atmosphere, better banter and the of chance off catching your team on tv. I know it doesn't mean much when your at Easter Road but believe me it makes a difference when your sitting on your todd on a saturday night in front of a computer screen. Have a look and see if you can catch one of their games and then watch one of these teams (at home).

I'll be honest, I can't see it working.

Nothing compares to the atmosphere of being at a College Football game. Not even the best atmosphere ever experienced at a football ground. The masses who make up the college crowd won't travel for it and by comparison, British/Irish fans are **** at making a decent noise, as it's something we're controlled (by both inhibitions and overzealous policing) not to do.

I was in the Big House a couple of years back to watch Michigan play Michigan State - even though we didn't win, 105,000 people cheering on a side with such zeal, combined with the marching band was something to truly savor!

I'd agree it might be difficult following Marist - never easy following a team just be checking the scores - you need to get a feel for how the team play, styles of offense...Marist definitely aren't a team who are going to be on ESPN at any point during the season and I'd be surprised if they're even on streaming sites.

However, if you can follow them and get properly into it and enjoy supporting the smaller team, I tip my hat to you! I always felt it must be hard for people without affiliations to "chose" a team. I spent some time at Michigan, so the decision is pretty much made for you :greengrin

James.

I'm really more interested in looking at how the whole system works in college football. Different divisions, umpteen bowls, AP rankings, a team called Army etc. Marist have a pretty good site with audio, video etc. enough to keep me updated and interested while I try to figure out the sport at this level! Oh and Pacers legend Rik Smits is a former Red Fox. So that's me sold!

Sorry, it might just be because I'm very tired, but IS game?

Nah - in my personal opinion, I can't see College Football ever taking off as much over here, as a lot of the interest/support comes from collegiate allegiance, derived either by locality or attendance at the college. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the Fighting Irish unless they were playing Michigan, so nah, no interest in going. I should hopefully get to Michigan vs Ohio State and Florida vs Miami next season, so that will suffice for a while.

I did get to the Patriots game at Wembley - was nice to see them in the flesh again, but a bit of a non-event, game wise. I didn't feel that the NFL UK experience was even HALF as good as gameday in the US, but I am biased. No atmosphere ANYWHERE on Earth will compare to our 2002 Superbowl Victory in the Superdome  Hoping to get back to Foxborough next season at some point if I can fit it in whilst I'm in the USA. If not, I'm hoping the schedule will be favourable and perhaps throw a Pats @ Bucs or Pats @ Dolphins game up whilst I'm in Orlando training next Fall.

I agree with you that there is no chance of college football taking off over here, which is a real shame. Reckon the size of the US really helps on this occassion, in that a college team is the only decent sports team about for hundreds of miles. You only got to look at the amount of states that don't have an NFL team never mind cities. Having never been to a college game I can't say for def but the atmosphere seems to me to be a hundred times better than the NFL. Again I agree with you regarding the games at wembely. Have you really been to a Superbowl?

Hardly a show-off :greengrin It was a once in a lifetime experience to be honest - I was over visiting family in Rhode Island and they were season ticket holders in Foxborough - made the trip every week. They bought tickets for the Superbowl but couldn't make the game, so we asked if we could buy the tickets. They wouldn't hear of taking money for it, so all we had to pay for were the flights from Boston to New Orleans and accomodation for the overnight!

You really do have to see the campuses in the USA to appreciate just how big collegiate football really is. I've been fortunate enough to spend time studying in 2 Universities over there and almost done my PhD over there. The reason isn't even always the absence of an NFL team. There's a purity about College Football, which sets it apart from the NFL - it's nothing other than personal/team pride and collegiate allegiance. Money doesn't dominate and because of the roster turnover due to graduation etc, it's not (usually) dominated by any one team for too long, though success on the field is creating a trend of recruitment right now for the likes of Alabama, Ohio State and LSU, hence their recent dominance.

Just out of curiosity but how the hell do you get ticket's for that one and how much does a trip like that cost.

As I said, I've spent some time studying in Michigan, so I count as eligible for ticket allocation. I tend not to use it though, as my aforementioned mate (set to be my best man at my wedding in 2 years) manages to get tickets as his brother used to play for the Wolverines and ex-players have a guaranteed ticket allocation for life. Other than flights and spending money, I tend not to pay for anything else, as I stay with my mate (who also picks me up/drops me off at the airport) and the tickets for ex-players and their friends/family aren't charged (unless over a certain amount are requested - the last Michigan vs OSU game generated a lot of interest in tickets for his brother, so he had to pay $100 per additional ticket).

A few upsets on the cards as we speak! Fourth quarter in most games and
The Browns lead the Bengals.
The Panthers lead the Saints.
The Rams are leading the Seahawks.
Ravens trailing the Steelers.
Detroit also keeping it close against Green Bay.

I'll be honest - my attention to both has been hampered this week due to the Ryder Cup. I did watch the Michigan @ Indiana game yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed what was ultimately a shootout, with the Wolverines coming out on top to remain undefeated and win our first Big Ten matchup! Denard Robinson was electric YET AGAIN! Michigan up to 17 in the rankings, with Michigan State being ranked 16, prior to next weeks matchup in Ann Arbor, which should be a cracker - absolutely miffed that ESPN American aren't showing any games live next weekend, as it's the opening weekend of the NHL - not that I mind the NHL starting again, but I'm a bit pissed it's at the expense of a cracking Big Ten game!

In the big NCAA game yesterday, 'Bama destroyed Florida 31-6.

Michael Vick absolutely hammered driving forward on 3rd down - he ran all the way to the goal line and was sandwiched - all for nothing, as a penalty was called and brought back to replay 3rd and 15. Ouch!

Anyway:

Indianapolis Colts 7-14 Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston Texans 14-7 Oakland Raiders
Washington Redskins 14-3 Philidelphia Eagles
Arizona Cardinals 7-7 San Diego Chargers

Thought it was an allround good display but you got to remember it was against the Bills. How poor are they :greengrin and how they managed to push the Pats so close is beyond me. Still a great result in terms that the Dolphins and the Patriots play tonight. A bit early for must win games but who ever loses this one could already be out of the running.

New England Patriots 41-14 Miami Dolphins

Oooft! What a SUPERB display last night! Simply breathtaking offense and gave very little up in response! And above ALL else, how utterly sensational were our special teams - Danny Chung and Brandon Tate - Chung blocks a punt and a field goal and returned both for the TD. Brandon Tate took the opening kickoff in the second half and took it from end to end!

That'll do me nicely! I didn't expect to win either game on the road in the last 2 weeks, but that's a HUGE result for us last night, especially before our free week next week, then a home tie against the most brutal defense in the NFL right now.

Arguably, 2 of our hardest rivals are out the way, both on the road, and I'd heavily fancy our chances of beating both the Jets and Dolphins in Foxborough later in the season.

AFC East

New York Jets 3-1
New England Patriots 3-1
Miami Dolphins 2-2
Buffalo Bills 0-4

I'll be honest, though he might still do decent things in Minnesota, I've not been impressed with him this season and I'm going to guess his team-mates have been having issues too, as Brady hasn't looked for him all too often this season.

I'm not exactly sure on his numbers, but I'm fairly sure he's still in single figures for catches this season, and didn't receive anything on Monday night.

3rd round pick isn't a terrible trade either. Hopefully we can put it to good use and bring in a decent backup running back or QB. It's a shame Denard Robinson isn't a senior at Michigan yet, or I'd be touting him to follow Brady to Foxborough! :greengrin

I think the Moss trade works for both outfits. Pats are stacked with good draft slots next year.

Vikings now have; Moss and Rice wide, Harven in the slot, AP at half back with sicano (sp) and of course old father time at QB. Superbowl or bust!

Having looked at it more, we apparently have 2 picks in each of the 1,2,3,4th round so could work out well for us.

He hasnt appeared much this season that is true but he is a big game player and has the experience. Welker will lead the line well with Tate no.2 but Tate is only really starting his pro career this season after injury ended his first season early (although Tate is looking some player from returns!).

His calibre is unquestionable, no doubt, but he hasn't been a big-game player since early last season. He's been utterly non-existent since this season started - not because of injury/not playing - he's been on the park, but not finding space or running routes quickly enough to get into a spot where Brady can find him.

His TD vs the Jets in the Meadowlands is probably the only thing of note he's really achieved this season. I wish him well, but won't dwell on him going.

We're in a great position to build a team for the future and our draft picks, plus our current depth of squad is VERY encouraging!

Ha Ha, keep dreaming mate. If he keeps it up and becomes the player we think he will he is a shoe in to be a first round draft pick. So unless your Pats want to start having some really, really bad season's (1990 :faf: )he's a cert for some where like the Raiders or the Rams.

I'm guessing it's just because it's the opening weekend in all honesty and a lot of the games are being played in Europe just now. A lot of the NHL games are normally evenings, whereas the NCAA has games on at 12.00pm and 3.30pm ET (5.00pm and 8.30pm), so it SHOULD just be this weekend. There are games being shown "as live" on the Sunday morning.

As per the above post, we have picks in the 1st, 2nd AND 3rd rounds in the next draft, so you never know  - I'd rather avoid watching us going back to the bottom of the barrel again - besides, the Lions seem quite comfortable down there just now. Robinson is still 2 years away from being drafted by anyone anyway - in all seriousness, I reckon he'll have his pick of franchises interested in his services. He should go for an early pick though.

Not on ESPN anyway - pop adthe.net into google, and click on the first link - there's a link at the top of the page with "Live Sports" and their streams are second to none! I'm avoiding posting the link, as no doubt admin will go spare, but it broadcasts channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN, which we simply can't get over here anyway.

While he hasnt popped up enough to win us yards so far, he still has that ability to pull off something incredible like the one handed catch against the Jets... I just feel our receivers are weaker with his leaving. Welker was always going to be the #1 this season and onwards but I fear our other options (Tate being our #2) are inexperienced and therefore weak if we are going to go a long way this season.

However, our ground game is encouraging and with the multi choices on the ground and Welker in the air... we might be ok...

I just feel like we have lost a serious weapon in trading moss.

They're simply better than us.

Oh well, roll on next week :)

Just finished watching the highlights. Jets look like they'll be very strong contenders indeed for the Superbowl this year.

Strong offensive performance, though ironically, despite scoring 29 points, the biggest play was probably the defensive one which stopped Farve getting his fourth rallying TD of the night.

The Vikings offense highlighted some of the weaknesses in the Jets' D, but they really do look a strong team. You guys must be happy, as that's all 3 divisional rivals and a fairly ambitious Minnesota team you've downed since the rather poor start vs the Ravens.

We're only 5 weeks in now, but my prediction for the Superbowl is shaping up to be:

NY Jets/Baltimore Ravens vs Chicago Bears/Atlanta Falcons

On holiday this week so managed to catch the MNF game. The Vikings were dreadful in the first half and we really should have had them dead and buried by then. Sanchez was making good throws and decisions however the weather was playing havoc with the ball.I thought the defence was exceptional although Revis looked a bit suspect against Harvin at times. I think over the piece we deserved the win, good sign when you aren't at your best and are still fairly comfortable.

Neither off you are wrong, and I backed Baltimore at 16/1 to win it at the start of the season. However I just have a gut feeling about the Giants, no one expected anything in 2007 either. Depending on injuries and productivity from the recieving core, and if Jacobs can put being second choice behind him and do what he does best, they can go far. The defence has looked excellent in the last two weeks without Kiwinuka. Who knows?

I'm more than happy. Been following the Jets for close on 25 years. You being a Pats fan will be well aware that for most of these we've no been very good. This was the first season in a long time that I actually thought to myself we had a chance of the superbowl (if ever). I'm still not 100% on the left side of our O-Line but other than that we are looking in good shape. If LT can keep it up for the season we have every chance of making it. I know it's said every week but what a pick up he is proving to be. Our running game was good last year and I thought it was a mistake letting Jones go but not any more. Got my order for a new LT jersey in:greengrin.
We've got to be happy with how it's all going. Even our defeat against the Ravens was more down to us. We never got going and if anything it was the penalties that cost us. Thing we had something like 12 on the def alone:grr:. In saying that I still reckon they could still pip us. Or hows about a Pats @ Jets championship game, in the snow:hyper:. Think you are certs for a wildcard and it would be an all time classic.
As for the NFC I reckon you right on the money with the Falcons although I've a wee fancy for the Cardinals. Giants have NO chance.

I hope LT is saving some for Denver on Sunday, if he and Greene are on it then we could be in for a very good win against a suspect Broncos line up. You've obviously been a Jet fan for a lot longer than me but even I find it slightly surreal seeing us so highly rated by everyone!

I'll have to settle for the laptop again, but Michigan are playing Iowa, which is being covered in the US by ABC and ESPN, so I should at least get a decent online feed.

I'm quite surprised the Baltimore @ New England game isn't being shown on Sky, but again, I should manage to get a good feed!

Last night, No. 25 West Virginia beat South Florida 20-6 in one of the most one-sided games I've seen in a long while - surprised there were only 2 scores in it!

Well, 2 defeats on the bounce, but a decent rally against a very powerful Iowa side. I did envisage us hitting a wall in the second half of the season so I'm not overly surprised we're on a bit of a sliding slope just now.

On another matter:

No 1. Ohio State University 18-31 No 18. Wisconsin :greengrin

BOOM! Baltimore's unbreakable D hits the skids, with the Patriots downing them in Foxborough, in overtime!

Absolutely stoked - we played BRILLIANTLY yesterday, especially slowing down the rushing offense of the Ravens. At one point, we trailed 20-10, but Brady (who didn't have his best game, getting picked twice) found Deion Branch for a TD, before the FG took us into OT, which was won following another successful conversion by Gotskowski!

HUGE result for us, especially with the Jets getting a very good win in Mile High.

Been a quiet ol' thread this week!

Good game last night between No. 2 Oregon and UCLA - finished:

Not so much a good close contest, but some of the Oregon offense was unstoppable!

(no game at 8.00pm as game 6 of the NLCS between the Giants and the Phillies is on, with the Giants having the chance to seal their place in the World Series. That's followed by the New York Yankees @ Texas, with Texas also having a chance to book their place).

There's only one word to sum up my feeling about our win yesterday vs San Diego - "phew".

We looked so comfortable at one stage, leading 23-6, but a well executed TD, followed by another after recovering the onside kick left us staring at 23-20 with 2 minutes to go.

Belichick REALLY confuses me with some of his play calls though and he was lucky to get away with another last night. If anyone recalls the New England @ Indianapolis game last year, Pats leading with 2 to go, facing 4th and 1 on the half way line. Instead of punting and forcing the Colts to drive the field if they wanted to score, they went for it, failed to get it and ended up losing. Last night, with the ball in a similar spot, he done it again and failed again, meaning San Diego just had to get into FG territory.

They did just that and set up for a 45 yard FG attempt. Prior to the snap, a false start penalty was called, meaning the penalty extended to 50 yards, which resulted in the miss.

That was a HUGE win for us out West last night - San Diego are number one ranking for total offense and total defense in the country, so it baffles why they're in the position they're in.

The amount of stupid mistakes they made last night cost them the win and I feel a little bit lucky we got out of there with the victory. That sort of heart-stopping finale is not advisable before going to bed!

Leaving only the Bills without a win out of all the teams in the NFL. Be interesting to see if the Giants can topple the Cowboys in Dallas tonight, which would leave them utterly no chance of making the postseason already. As I mentioned in my previous post, the position of San Diego is a puzzle - they're nowhere near as bad as their record suggests - it's like the entire AFC West is upside down from how the teams usually place.

The race for the wildcard is already looking tasty in both divisions, with the better records being held in the AFC, with 3 teams at 5-1.

They seem to be getting "comfortable" after we seem to get any kind of lead and start defending quite passively - they sit off, waiting for the pass to come, but are being easily run over if the other side have a decent RB.

We do seem to have been a bit of a one-half team this season, but we are getting away with it. I also think we're struggling a little with penalties, which is probably the result of having so many rookies in our starting lineup. The amount of times we gave up holding, false start or personal foul penalties last night was getting infuriating!

Yet, considering they're rookies, they've looked really comfortable in their first season!

Penalties are destined to kill us unless we can get one of the coaches to sort them out! In the first 5 minutes of the 1st quarter, there were 4 penalties called on our special teams, which considering how infrequently the special teams are on the park, is pretty damned impressive!

We have some BIG games coming up which we need to be winning - the good part in that, is that we have another 4 games in the next 2 months which will probably be covered on Sky - vs Minnesota (next weekend), @ Pittsburgh (14 Nov), vs Indianapolis (21 Nov), @ Detroit (25 Nov, Thanksgiving game 1).

Howa about them Cowboys :greengrin

Jerry looked DEEEEEEElighted! Good! He's a prick.

Anyway, yes and no Scott, they could have smashed Dallas tonight, I mean properly crushed them into the dust. They recovered well after a horrible start and deserved to win as they absolutely dominated and I'm not sure 35 points for Dallas shows how pathetic they were. Smashing Romo up obviously played a huge part.

Bryant was the only Cowgirls player to come out that game with any credability. Ok Romo goes down, but it's up to your other big guys to step up and help out your backup QB. They were simply awful.

Saying that, I'm not 100% convinced about our offence yet either. Defence will do me, they gave up 20 points for 55 yards at one point. From 2 interceptions and a punt return. Not a massive issue, very few teams have Bryants ability to return punts like that. They are excellent at pass rushing as well. Fewell has worked wonders so far.

Bradshaw is a beast, as Jabobs finally looks to be playing a part. I just wish they'd cut out the stupid fumbles. ah who cares 5-2, and the Cowboys won't be going to their own superbowl party at 1-5 and no Romo for a few weeks. :faf:

We have a bye week next week and play Dallas at new Giants stadium in three weeks I think. If Romo is still out that should result in another win. So then we're looking for 4 more, probably 5 more wins no including the other Dallas game to be sure. I'm no convinced against the real big sides yet tho.

Didn't fancy it this year - 2 very poor teams chosen - I understand the fans in the USA not wanting to lose one of the big rivalry games to overseas audience (imagine they exported the Edinburgh derby to play an overseas game in China?!), but it would be superb to see a Giants vs Jets, Jets vs Pats, Packers vs Vikings, Raiders vs Chargers or the likes come to Wembley (or indeed a.n.other suitable stadium!)

No doubt Jets are hot faves for this one, With half the defence out and the main running back out for the season we will be lucky to reach the play-offs. BUT there is still some cracking players (Rodgers, Driver, Jennings, Mathews, Hawk, Collins etc) in the team, enough to pull a shock :greengrin

This college football is nuts, Alabama lost the other week and so automatically fall to 8th in these polls I've been looking at. Surely you don't stop being the best college football team overnight? From what I've read nobody is convinced that Auburn or Oregon are that legit either.

This college football is nuts, Alabama lost the other week and so automatically fall to 8th in these polls I've been looking at. Surely you don't stop being the best college football team overnight? From what I've read nobody is convinced that Auburn or Oregon are that legit either.

I dislike the Jets as much as any Pats fan, but I'm mature enough to avoid calling you names :na na:

These polls are all pure opinion - I'd agree with you, that despite their rather embarrassing loss the other week, the Crimson Tide are probably still the best side in the NCAA - I also find it quite laughable that Ohio State are currently ranked 11th! They HAVE to be in the top 3...

Auburn will be dethroned soon enough - I'm not optimistic for Michigan today, as we're away to visit Joe Paterno and the Penn State Nittany Lions :worried:

Not surprised to see we lost to Penn State last night - quite happy to see we put some numbers on the board again right enough, but our shaky defense is going to make it a long end to the season.

Not looking forward to the Ohio State game ONE bit, after they put more big numbers on the board vs Minnesota.

You know it makes sence . Pats @ Jets championship game in the snow would be right up there. Raven's could be a problem but I reckon we could take em.

How the **** did that happen :dunno:. Our recievers had better get the finger out and learn how to play the game and wtf happened to our running game. Can't believe we throw it away and how anyone who gets shut out can be considerd superbowl contenders is beyond me. Still that's what being a Jets fan is all about:boo hoo: and I guess I've got what I deserve this week.
On a plus point think we've got the Lions next week so all isnt lost just yet.

Seen that Favre started the game tonight. As much as I hate him some of our (Hibs :flag:) players should have a look at themselves. Broken ankle indeed.

Quick question, have you seen the mock ups for the new Nike kits? Have a look at the Pats :faf:. Any how I'm off to watch the Wembley high lights and then crash out during SNF :taxi.

The Turnovers by Jets and Receivers from both teams dropping the ball, along with the Packers Killing the Jets running game made for an eye bleeding 3 hours :agree:

Still a boring win is still a win, considering i thought the Jets were the faves going into the game

A win for the Pats topped it off as well :greengrin

Cowboys @ lambeau field next week

Both teams missed big catches that would have pretty much won it the way the game was going. Anyone know how Favre is? Looked like a sore one. I think ALL footballers should take note.

To an extent. We have passed the trade deadline so the way I think it works is that he is free to sign for a club who will pick up his contract which is around $3 million for the rest of the season. Now the catch here is that he can't just sign for anyone. Again I'm not 100% but I think it works similar to the draft system in that the weakest team in the league gets first option so in this case it would be the Bills, then Cowboys etc, etc.
Hope that kind of makes sence.
Can't believe they gave up a 3rd round pick for one touchdown :faf:.

The Wembley game was eye-bleeding until the 4th... Good day out though! :agree:

Great weekend of results though!

As for Moss, apparently he slammed the coaching, said he hated Minnesota and he wants back to New England.

Tebow scored a decent run in but I was a little disappointed he didnt play more of the game.

Ah well, we still have the draft pick, money to spare in the budget cap and we are heading to the play offs... Its a shame as Moss was a great player for us for a while but we survive.
