Interesting watching the fallout of the Kaepernick situation. Always interesting how the much lauded 'right to free speech' only applies so far in America, especially when some sort of social protest is concerned.
I agree with his stance, it's just unfortunate he's possibly my least favourite player!

I kind of agreed with what Drew Brees had to say
"The great thing about this country is that we have the freedoms that allow you to speak out openly about any issue. So I'm not commenting on the issue itself because any person has the right to speak out on any issue they want. That's the great thing about being an American. But the American flag is what represents those freedoms. It represents the very freedom that Colin Kaepernick gets the opportunity to exercise by speaking out his opinion in a peaceful manner about that issue. …
"Like, it's an oxymoron that you're sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out."
Theres no doubt that theres a lot of problems in the US but as patriotic as a lot of people in the US seem to be, disrespecting the flag (country) that gives you the right to protest maybe isn't the best way to go. Kaepernick is lucky enough to be in a situation where his opinion will be heard above a lot of other peoples. I think he could have used his situation to his advantage in another way.

On another note, College football starts this weekend, and with no hibs until Sunday I can get a full saturdays worth!

A lot of the pundits' response goes 'I respect his right to protest...as long as he doesn't do it like that'.
Which kind of missed the point of a right to protest, no?
I don't think it was the Stars and Stripes flag gave him the right to protest at all. It's an inalienable human right guaranteed by the Enlightenment (and implicit in native American and slave societies as well, come to that). This obsession about the sanctity of The Flag is a bit creepy, like its a religious icon or something.
But to the football...
Clearly the NFC will have all the quality as usual :greengrin but it's going to be an Arizona Pittsburgh Super Bowl with the Cards breaking their duck.

About Kaep's protest. It's not something that I would personally do but I believe it's his right to do so. I don't know anything about the guy personally but he seems to have a bad rap amongst a few (more than a few), but I don't care about that. The NFL is full of idiots and people who have done far worse than sit during a national anthem e.g., drugs, cheating, rape, murder, child abuse, etc.
What pisses me off is that some people are twisting around his protest into something that he's not protesting and then giving him crap for it. That is, the military. People were saying that he was disrespecting the military which affords us our freedoms even after he was interviewed and explicitly said that was not his intent.
The American national anthem also contains a couple of lines about slavery, so, yeah, there's that too:
O! say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_we_trust).'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

:agree: Completely agree. There's something wrong when the media spin machine twists the actual issue, police violence against black people in the US, which deserves contemplation and thought, into something which is clearly inarguable in the current climate; 'armed forces deserve respect'.
But the interesting question politically is what is the motivation for the MSM spinning the story in this way? Having a dialogue about ending the current racial tension violence and bitterness would be in everyone's interests I would've thought?
I'm following the Dakota oil pipeline story online at the moment, and I'm totally shocked at the way this tribe is getting its lands violated without consultation or recompense, equally shocked by the reality of security men setting dogs on protestors, and also shocked by the almost total lack of coverage of both. I have quite politically aware friends in the states who were totally unaware it was even happening, it's not 'news', possibly because there's no celebrity involvement.

Its a really odd situation to observe. I agree it's his right to do, and I don't believe what he's doing shows any disrespect to the armed forces. He certainly seems to be getting more hassle than some of the others who've committed worse crimes as you've mentioned.

The pipeline story should be getting a lot more coverage than it is but with everything else going on, does anyone really care? That is not my feeling, I'm wondering if that's what the MSM thinks though? With the Presidential race, they have lots of fodder. That said, the Oregon protest earlier this year got a lot more coverage so I"m not sure what the thinking is here. Hey, those Indian fellas should just get out of this country, get back to where they came from! (I'm sure someone has actually said that in the past).
At the end of the day the MSM gets to decide what the public needs to know about which is why I try to seek out other sources. Unfortunately all the sources I seem to find are biased one way or the other.

Im doing a fantasy league on NFL UK website and accidentally drafted the Jets Defence when there were much better options available.
After the draft i had a look at what defences were available and traded the jets for the redskins.
Then last week someone dropped the Vikings from thier line-up and i snapped them up........only i forgot to substitute them in for the redskins in my line up for today and they scored 21 points
I've also got Cam Newton as my QB1 and he scored a decent 21.16 points.......my QB2 is Jameis Winston who scored 25.54 and he was sitting on the bench.

Jimmy G played well last night but no mistake, we were lucky. That low snap was a huge bit of luck on our part.
Still, I thought we looked solid in what was a tough road game, especially without Brady, Ninkovich and Gronkowski. Defensively, we didn't look fragile at all, even though Fitzgerald seemed to find some great routes/space.

I've just watched the highlights, I've got no reason to change my prediction of the cards for the Super Bowl. Johnson, Fitzgerald and Palmer all looked explosive, although I was surprised how many tackles their much vaunted D missed. Honey Badger due back in a few weeks will add some power to their defensive backfield too.

I've always defended Ryan Tannehill. He has had zero protection in the last 2/3 years and takes some big hits but generally just gets up and gets on with it. I'm sure he holds the league record for most times sacked.
It's becoming harder to do though. In Landry, Stills and Parker he has a very good receiving corps (although I doubt Landry will hang about when he gets the 1st chance to go). Increasingly even when he has protection he is hesitant and his decision making is questionable. Some of the audibles he has called thus far this season have been strange to say the least and I question his ability to read a defence.
I think the Tannehill experiment is over for Miami and I'd be tempted to shuffle the roster and bring Doughty in from the practice squad to play a few and see how he does.

His yards per completion is one of the lowest in the league as well, he's a percentage player who dumps off short passes a lot and therefore he doesn't throw many INTs (although this may also be a result of pass rush in his face as you rightly say), but in a pass happy league with all the rule changes making it more so, he's not really a franchise guy. 8 first downs for only 200 yards yesterday, 13 minutes less time in possession than the Titans and 1 touchdown on offence. Tannehill has now thrown 7 interceptions to 6 TD passes this season. Yet Gase says post game he isn't going to accept anyone questioning Tannehill and he will play every game he is fit for. Obviously the problems run deeper than one man but a QB on the kind of contract Tannehill is on needs to be producing more.
I've said before and I'll say again we are the worst team in the league. A 1-15 or 2-14 record wouldn't suprise me one bit.

You will walk the division again, Jets will finish bottom and us and the Bills are in a battle for 2nd. Looking at the AFC at the moment I don't think it's going to take a particularly brilliant record to clinch a wild card spot so I'm fairly optimistic.

Giants win 4 in a row and are 3 games above .500 for the first time since 2012. Up next are the Jeffreyless Bears. The next 2 should be games they aim to win to have a shot. They actually have the 3rd best record in the league right now on form and would be 5th seed if the playoff hunt ended today. They have beat both Dallas and Baltimore, the teams that lead their divisions they have played. NFC east looks like the best division in football right now and it's going to come down to the division games to win it. Worst I see Dallas going is 12-4. It may come down to the game at Giants Stadium. If the Giants win they'll hold the tie break.
Either way I'm feeling so much better about this team than I did early doors.

The Bengals are just quite a boring team this year.
Issues both side of the ball and 0 protection for Dalton whatsoever.
Can't believe Baltimore are top of the division.
Although nobody is out of it bar the Browns.

Giants win 4 in a row and are 3 games above .500 for the first time since 2012. Up next are the Jeffreyless Bears. The next 2 should be games they aim to win to have a shot. Happy to see a fellow Giants fan on the board! We're improving each week and seem to have steered clear from injuries for a change apart from some trouble at safety which Collins has masked and our front getting pressure has helped the replacement Adams. Still reckon to stand any shot this year we really need to up our running game, hoping Perkins comes into it more but he has some issues with pass protection he needs to try improve on. Still hopeful as ever and the wildcard might suit us as it has done before, we never do things the easy way!

he has all the tools you'd want from a RB, nice cutback, has stamina to get 20+ carries a game but doesn't seem to break the long run very often. The fact hes been cut from our squad twice now as soon as the #1 guys get fit again shows the coaches dont rate him enough to be a regular starter.

Yeah all valid points. I love that Mac plays Rookies. If they mess up he doesn't hide them. He benched Apple last week then the kid played every snap on D at the weekend past and played well.
Andrew Adams has been a surprise. He looked good preseason but he's really grown. Hopefully he can keep it up. You're right about Collins. The guy has to be in the conversation for Defensive POY.
I'm not overly worried about the run game. I would settle for functional. Just running out the clock or picking up 3rd and short for a 1st down would suit me. I'm not convinced any of the backs we have are actually that talented. Perkins may well become a solid change of pace back but he's not an every down guy. Jennings is bang average. We do miss Vereen but more for screen plays. It is easy to blame the O Line but Amahd Bradshaw wouldn't be running for a measly 2 yards per carry behind this line that's for sure.
We're getting better every week. Next 2 games are winable but we should be careful and respect both. That will take us to 8 and 3. I see us going 10 and 6 maybe 11 and 5. I think we'll need to beat Dallas at home and probably win in Philly. It's not going to be smooth but it's so much better to be able to be in the hunt than the last 4 rubbish years.
Here's a prediction. Both wildcards for the NFC come from the NFC East. Dallas, Philly and Us all go to the playoffs.
Check out a board called "big blue huddle" it's all older guys and they are by far the most knowledgeable Giants fans I know. It's brilliant football talk. I tail gated with some of them when i was over a couple of times.

He'll be a decent change of pace back behind Lacy. I don't know what his ST play is like but he's a solid pick up at this time of the season.

That's the toughest loss I've experienced in a Michigan vs Ohio State game.
Some utterly ludicrous officiating calls, none more so than the one on 4th and 1 - the officials knew full well calling that correctly, there would have been a riot - he could not have been across the plane, because his own blocker was on the line, in his way - an atrocious decision.
Not to mention the non-PI call against them in our second OT drive, or the PI call against us when the ball was well beyond their receiver that resulted in extending their drive and tying the game!
We made mistakes, but we stepped up when it counted and did our job. Just a shame the officials didn't do theirs.

It looked to me from the replays that the ball crossed the plane, if you watch it you'll see the ball gets extended above the blockers backside which seems to be over the plane.

Falcons were excellent on both sides of the ball. After watching a college game live on Saturday and an NFL game live yesterday, the difference in play is huge.
