The Packers played well within themselves today and were still too good for the Lions. I think the only thing that will stop them from a 16-0 season is away to the Giants on the 4th. I can't see them losing to the Lions at home, and I doubt the Bears, without Cutler, will be good enough to stop them. That division has been such a stroll for them, the only thing that might hamper them is losing focus and having their eyes on the postseason and switching off.
I still have a suspicion that they won't win the Superbowl though.

Don't where this feeling of optimism is coming from, as I'm NEVER confident ahead of these games.
What a debut season it would be for Coach Hoke to both get us into a bowl with a good winning record AND to get the first win over Ohio State in far too long.

I started worrying as soon as your offense took the field. We offset high profile defensive signings (Babin, Jenkins, Asomugha, Rodgers-Cromartie) by putting our OL coach in charge of the defence and installing a Wide 9 DL without any LBs to support them.

Be interesting to see how the Texans cope, after their lead QB Leinart was knocked out of the game with a broken collar bone and is expected to now miss the rest of the season.
The Tebow train is picking up steam and the Broncos are now up to second, with the Chargers bottom of the AFC West and normal service is resumed with a Sunday completed with a Colts loss.
The AFC North is looking very strong indeed this year and it looks possible that 2 WC spots might go to the same division, with Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati all having impressive records.
The WC race in the NFC is also looking pretty tight, with a lot of clubs on 7-4 right now. San Francisco look almost uncatchable and I think they'll secure the division next week if they beat St Louis? Oh, and I'll be there to see it :greengrin

Why is it that all spikes are not intentional grounding? What's the exact rule on it? Does it have to be immediately after the snap then?
Seahawks fair chucked it away last night. Looking forward to Thursday night though, confident of a good result. Misplaced optimism? Perhaps.

I think the ruling relates to formation setup.
For a spike, the formation isn't set up as a passing formation and the QB is under centre, but if he takes any step or hesitates looking for a pass, it's considered an attempt to get into passing formation, therefore counts as intentional grounding.
I'm not entirely sure of the specific technical boundaries between the 2 but any delay in a spike (which should be immediately after the snap) results in IG.

I'm utterly confused as to how 2 unranked BCS teams with losing records get to a bowl, particularly when OSU aren't bowl eligible...

Didn't see us today (again), but caught the score driving back down to San Francisco and pleased we managed to get a win in what could have been a stumbling stone.
Fiery exchange between Bill O'Neill and Brady on the sidelines apparently, but it's high pressure time of the year, so not a shock that patience is wearing thin.
It's frustrating - I've been in the US since last Friday and both days there've been football, I've missed it due to one reason or another (symposium at Berekely last Sunday and coming back from a weekend in the Redwood Forest/Pacific Coast today)!

He's had 8 starts this season and yet no-one has worked anything out to stop him yet. Surely defensive co-ordinators must have enough material from college and NFL games to work on and work out how to stop him by now? I think the last two games have shown defences planning for Tebow and yet in both games he has come out and managed to get it done through passing and not running.

He doesnt have to throw a pretty spiral, he has to complete and he certainly cant from what I have seen of him.
Sure he can drive a team but I thought the bears coped with him quite well, if they had a better O then they would have won IMO.
Tebow has won how many games in OT? If he is so good, surely he would win games BEFORE having to settle for a field goal in OT.

Big weekend coming up - a win in Mile High secures us our 9th AFC East Championship in 11 years, which is an astonishing achievement. I recall how excited I was when we FINALLY won our first since I'd started following the Pats, way back in 2001!
Our record against Denver is abysmal though, so I can't say I'm 100% confident - I'm pretty sure we've only beaten the Bronco's twice in something ridiculous like 18 games since 1969 and I'm fairly confident that Brady has only beaten them once in 7?

I don't think it's a bad thing to be honest - I still expect Green Bay to feature in the Superbowl this year and losing now prevents the added pressures of "unbeaten" discussions.
We're about to get underway in Denver - hoping we can both end our appalling record against them and stop the Tebow Train, winning the AFC East in the process.

turned out to be a fairly routine victory for the Saints against the dirty birds, well done to Brees and the whole offense :rockin:

Can they still make the Play offs?
I was under the impression that they were out of the race after the Giants game. As it turns out, they still have a slim chance of a Wildcard but they have to rely on other teams winning/losing etc.
Still... not really shown any superbowl winning form so far... :cb (and any excuse to use that emotcon!)

A Jets win followed up with a loss for the Raiders, Titans and the Bengals would see us sneak in. Not out with the realms of possibilities given who their all playing but we'll no doubt blow it against the fish. Said all along we weren't good enough this year and only hope it's the end of the road for Schottenheimer.

Watching RG3 for the first time in the Bowl vs Washington... wow. He looks amazing.
Are we seeing a shift in Quarterbacks? When you think Cam Newton, RG3... players who are athletic, strong, heavy but can throw, run and scramble?
I cant keep up with College football much, I keep an eye on NC State but I havent seen too much of them this year and was disappointed that Wilson transfered to Wis anyway so do you guys think we are seeing a shift?

Washington Baylor has been fantastic. Probably the most exciting game I have ever watched. Two amazing O's are just scoring for fun. 49-39 ( a record!) with over 20minutes left of football! :cb
Both teams are running, rushing, passing, short, medium, long... It is almost Kickoff-touchdown-kickoff-touchdown!

Watching it, but can't decide who I want to win in all honesty.
Have a lot of work-based research associates based at Oregon State, so would feel dirty wishing their biggest rivals to win, but by the same token, I don't want to see Wisconsin do anything.
Will hopefully just watch it and enjoy it for the spectacle...

DH has been so quiet on here of late, I didn't quite realise that the Suckeyes lost out in the most major of Bowls, the Gator Bowl, 24-17 to Florida.
What an NCAA season - a Michigan BCS Bowl win, an OSU non-BCS Bowl defeat and a Wolverines victory over both Notre Dame and OSU to boot! What a turnaround season for us - well done insta-legend Brady Hoke!

Throw in our glorious Hi-Bees and it's been ducking great :fuming:. To be fair I said all along that both teams would struggle this year. I'm still bemused by the Jets moves in the off season and all the crap going on behind the scene in Columbus ment this year was going to be a wash out. To be fair, if anything the biggest surprise is how good you guy's turned out this year. I thought we'd both suck this year. Don't get to used to it though cause I'm expecting things to get back to normal next year and for us to have a big, big season.
As for the Jets, People have to get real. In 20 years of following them the last few years are up there with the best of them and while this year was disappointing it wasn't to be unexpected. One things for sure though, it's going to be one hell of an off season, in Rex we trust :not worth.
We might not win the Superbowl next year or the year after but it will happen and when it does it will be all the more sweeter.

I understand entirely - I'd waited far too long to finally experience a Michigan win in The Game and it was well worth it in the end.
I'm not sure what to expect next year in the Big Ten in all honesty - been a good Bowl Campaign for the Big Ten clubs and barring a couple of stupid loses, any one of Michigan, Wisconsin or Michigan State could have been in line for the BCS Championship game, this coming week.
We can only get stronger, as a Bowl win will boost our recruiting strength. We also have a lot of key players who aren't all retiring seniors, so plenty to be optimistic about. I'm not sure what to expect from Ohio State either next year - your reputation is well and truly battered and I'm not sure Fickel is the guy to take you forward - guess it really depends what his staff can do in the off-season recruitment period.
I definitely don't expect much out of us this post-season - we can't keep doing what we've done against both Buffalo and Miami and not pay a price. If we fail to turn up in the first quarter of a playoff game, home advantage or not, against the likes of Baltimore or Pittsburgh, we can forget about it. I fully expect one of those clubs to be the AFC representative in the Superbowl, despite our current advantage!
Also not sure what to expect from us next year - we've seen some good young prospects start to feature this year, but our drafting and transfers really need to focus on sorting out our D, which is nowhere near good enough to be winning Superbowls. More looking forward to the NFC Playoffs than the AFC ones, as there are three really good teams with a shot at making the Championship game - especially looking forward to Detroit vs New Orleans this coming weekend!
James.
