That game was painful enough to watch first time around. Dont think I could watch LSU blowing it so bad again.
Saints @ Patriots tonight. the two best QB's in the league. Probably both only in for about 1 series.
I think Brady went in for like 8 snaps last year all preseason, wouldn't expect him in much at all tonight.

Haven't seen any highlights yet, but an impressive defensive start by the sounds of it for us, edging out New Orleans 7-6 at Foxborough. Sure enough, Brady and Brees took a series each by the reports.
Some of the other scores:
Denver 31-3 Chicago
Green Bay 13-21 San Diego
Baltimore 31-17 Atlanta
New Orleans 6-7 New England
Pittsburgh 23-24 Philadelphia
Washington 7-6 Buffalo

Like their Brady haircuts. You looking forward to the big kick off tonight against the Bengals? Holmes and Kerley are both out so should see a fair bit of Stephen Hill which will be interesting. We've also signed some back up to Sanchez apparently from Denver and he'll probably get a look in at some point. His name escapes me though

I've no interest if I'm honest. Has it kicked off or is it later tonight? I'm expecting good things from Hill but given our O, who knows. I fully expect this year to go back to the norm in that we will be lucky to make the playoffs. The whole going back to the run game baffles me when Greene is our number 1 RB. I'm afraid he's just not up to it. Cro switching to safety is the most interesting one. If it comes off then great but if not, I fear the worst. I've said it the last couple of years but we really struggle against strong TE'S which is one of the reasons the Patsies hurt us. As for Tebow, expect him to feature a lot, more than some people think. I don't agree with it as there is a good QB in Sanchez somewhere but expect Tebow to be starting by week 4/5.

That's the exact same argument as my American friends use against football matches that end up 1-0 or 0-0. It could have still been a good game. Maybe.

Nah, not yet anyway. Rodgers looked comfortable in the short space he did play last night but the rookie QB was all over the place (going on the short highlights I seen anyway).
Hard to gauge anything from pre-season as a lot of the newer players are tested and new plays/coaches try things out.

LA is a good shout but why did the leave in the first place?
Politics and money. Basically they were the worst team in the league and their crowds were dropping year after year. They were playing in Anaheim and wanted the city to build them a new stadium. They were told to bolt and the Rams owners tried to call their bluff and said they were moving to Baltimore. LA wouldn't budge and then St Louis said they would build them a new stadium and put other other offers and promises on the table. Rams owner took them up on their offer.

They have, but the recruiting at Alabama means they'll undoubtedly replace NFL players with NFL prospects. Having Saban at their helm also helps.
Offensively, they're not brilliant and defensively, we're not really in the same class as them (even with their new faces).

Delighted to see we (NE) have secured both Hernandez and Gronkowski to long term deals this week - I believe we have easily the best TEs in the NFL and to have the security of them being there on long contracts is good for the future.
We've also released Gaffney and Stallworth, the first of which comes as a bit of a surprise after a very impressive year with Washington last season.
Clearly we're continuing to turn over our roster and it's great to see so many young players coming through and stepping up. Something not a lot of other NFL teams do with the success we've seen in recent years.
However, I would like to see us secure a prospect QB in one of the drafts in the next few years, giving Brady enough time to develop them into a fine replacement for when he retires.

Final games of the NFL pre-season last night too (some over the course of the week...) and not many of us on here can have much cause to feel great if we take the pre-season scores seriously. Personally, I'm not overly concerned, as we've rested most of our starters more often than not, which is probably the case for most, though I do know a lot of teams have run at least one full game with their entire starting roster. That's not something we've done, which is both encouraging and worrying, as we've not been blown away by anyone but by the same token, we've not had a full game together yet.

Delighted to see we (NE) have secured both Hernandez and Gronkowski to long term deals this week - I believe we have easily the best TEs in the NFL and to have the security of them being there on long contracts is good for the future.

After Jimmy Graham of course.

Can't say I expected much else other than what happened to us last night.
Our key RB (Toussaint) was suspended, thus removing a significant part of our running game and as was evident last season, Denard cannot pass in the pocket and Alabama confined him there well, not rushing him at all but merely setting up a proximity threat.
Alabama were absolutely awesome and dealt with us perfectly - Nick Saban really done his work in researching all aspects of our game. Even McCarron looked pretty competent against us and that's normally one of 'Bama's weaker offensive elements.
It can only be a good learning experience for our young team playing against opposition that good, as we won't face anyone in that same caliber for the rest of the season. Granted, we'll face some good teams throughout the year (we have tough games in the schedule against Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Nebraska) but none who are likely to be in the BCS Championship discussions come the end of the year.

Surprised that the best team in football are ranked . Last year was a blip, a one off. Normal service will resume, especially when we play you lot.
To be honest I can't get my head round it all. I'm pretty sure we aren't eligible for any Bowl or Championship game but then we weren't last year and ended up in one . Like I said last year, there's way to many bowls. In my eyes there's only 3 maybe at a push 5 games that warrant the attention. There's what, 35 bowls. That's 70 teams playing in some sort of bowl or another. I'd guess we'll end up in one of them but like I said I'm not sure.

Oh, I don't doubt it DH. We won fortuitously against a down and out Buckeyes side. With Meyer coming into the head coach position AND the game being in Columbus, I have very little expectations against you this year. I actually do hope you have a good season this year as the sanctions imposed last year were ludicrously harsh. For all I enjoyed finally seeing a win last year, I'd rather see a healthy rivalry. The long and short of it is, that I don't think we're good enough. Denard has too many weaknesses and our RB's are so hit or miss, depending on the quality of the defense!
There probably are too many bowls, but it's the BCS ones which count and I'm pretty sure the bowl you played in last year wasn't a BCS bowl (unlike ours, for example). I find it very confusing to be honest but I've never bothered studying it in any great depth. I learned quickly at Michigan that you enjoy having a College Football team to support every weekend during the fall but do so without any great expectations.

I watched the Georgia Tech - Virginia Tech rerun this afternoon. I echo the sentiment a few posts ago about preferring the close games. When Georgia tied it up with 44 second to go I was brought to my feet, but they lost in overtime.
I have been meaning to ask a question. What is the significance of the number before some college team names (e.g. 17 Nebraska)?
Delighted that the Sky Sports TV deal has been sorted. All we need is for the ESPN MNF announcement to come tomorrow and we're back to a really comprehensive schedule of coverage.

Think the Giants should win tonight, cant say im to fond of either so both teams losing would be great but I just get annoyed when I see Jerry Jones and his plastic face so hopefully the Cowgirls take a beating.
Whats everyones picks this year then? My heart says Eagles out of the NFC but I know what they are like, kinda like Hibs really haha. My head says 49ers out of the NFC and the Patriots out of the AFC. The Pats have dont nothing but improve this year and are always there about so I cant see anyone taking the AFC crown from them and I think they'll go onto win it in New Orleans.
If Chicago can keep Urlacher as healthy as possible they have a good chance. Marshall is a good signing for them and with Matt Forte getting his big pay deal it can only mean good things for them. Hope Jay Cutler has a good year, got him in one of my fantasy teams.

I tipped the Packers and Patriots last year, but i think this season is wide open and an outsider could emerge to overtake the usual suspects. In the AFC, i'll go for Baltimore with San Diego as a dark horse. NFC, lots of candidates...but i like Chicago.

I fancy the San Francisco 49ers to win the NFC, against one of the NFC North teams (Packers will be thereabouts as ever, Chicago and Detroit both look strong) and I'm not quite so sure with the AFC - I reckon we'll be in the mix this year again but Houston, Oakland and Baltimore are all very strong teams indeed.

The New York Jets surely must be a contender.
Play in green and white, one of the most contrary supports in the NFL, hopelessly inconsistent and they've not won the big trophy in a VERY long time :greengrin

That's how I see it and if I'm being honest, one of the reason I probably started following the Jets. As an Eagles fan I've got to say Eagles for the superbowl, however I don't have much confidence that Vick will manage to play more than half the games this season.
I think that it's going to be 49ers against a Tebow led Jets in the superbowl........

Incidentally, I'm curious with the NY comparisons.
I've always though the NYC vs Boston/New England rivalry was a lot more fierce than the inter-New York rivalry.
Am I wrong Ayrshire/DH?
I would say that Sox / Yankees is more hotly contested. I've never been to a subway series before but I've also never really heard anyone talk about the rivalry in the same way as Sox.
Slight segway - was watching the Golf Channel last night and they seemed to be running out of things to talk about - they were talking about rivalries in golf. They moved onto other sports and talked about football (Ravens and Steelers), baseball (Sox and Yankees)........and then one guys chimes in with Celtic / Rangers. He mentioned the Catholic / Protestant rivalry (in passing, he didn't dwell on it) and then said you need a suit of amrour to go to the game. LOL. The female host then mentioned the fixture by the "Old Firm" monicker. I was really quite surprised that rivalry was mentioned in the US, on the Golf Channel no less. Of course nobody mentioned Sevco or 3rd division or anything like that - I doubt they even know. LOL.

I can't say im expecting much of anything from Michigan after our opening 2 games. Our defense look quite poor and we simply shouldnt be getting run so close by a school like Air Force in Ann Arbor.
Looking forward to the Patriots game tonight but not entirely confident of an opening win against what have been a very impressive titans team in pre-season. Having said that, ill need to settle for the red zone coverage as its not on sky. Really looking forward to the 49ers @ Green Bay tonight. Should be a cracker.

Dont overly care though. Thoroughly enjoyed a very entertaining week 1.
49ers were very impressive in both departments, some great games early on, good win for us on the road against a good Titans team whom our defence shut down well and a good win for the Jets, though hopefully they're not getting too carried away as the Bills were atrocious.

Surprised there's been no mention of Tulane safety Devon Walker yet, who broke his neck and suffered a collapsed lung in a collision with his teammate during Saturday's game.
Looked completely innocuous at first glance but the slow replay clearly show a hard helmet to helmet hit and he just flattens out unresponsive.
Scary stuff and not nice to see. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

RG3 was definitely the story of week 1 for me. To go to NO and win with such ease is very impressive. Good result for the 49ers - looking forward to seeing if the Packers can bounce back against the Bears (I say they don't)
As for the Jets, I will get carried away. A Sanchez who looked in control, a WR in Stephen Hill who looks a real deep threat and most importantly a fantastic performance from the O-Line. Mario Williams doing his best Wes Welker imitation against us, completely invisible :agree: Solid win for the Patsies I agree.

Picked the 49ers to make the SB and if anything they just confirmed it last night. Patsies winning in Nashville isn't really surprising is it. And as for the Jets, lets be honest, who saw that coming? Sanchez looked good and hopefully will continue in that vein so that we can forget about this ground and pound stuff. Greene just isn't of the standard to rely on in that way. Hope people don't get too carried away with Hill's as he sucked in pre-season and hopefully he will deal with the pressure from the New York media.

Objectively, the Jets win IS a massive statement for an offense that was a joke preseason, to destroy what was supposed to be a mucho improved Bills D demands sitting up and taking notice. Manning was almost faultless for Denver, he's still got it. I never saw the Redskins result coming in a million years, RG3 very impressive. The other rookie QBs starting in week 1 look a bit rusty, and Wilson was a big letdown for the Seahawks. Even for a rookie, all those delay of game pens, grounding penalties and not converting with a first and goal at the 4 at the death wasnt what we were promised by the hype. Still, its only week 1 :greengrin

Thought that - he looked a very lean guy last night and well done to him as he was a sizeable boy last season!
Sanchez looked alright, but bear in mind that most of your scores came from your defense or special teams. All in all, the Bills defense can't take much of a pasting for last night as it was their offensive errors which ultimately cost them dear.
Having said that, Hill looks a cracking receiver and will undoubtedly give Sanchez (or Tebow) an extra solid target.

If you really like football then you should get into it. Beats the NFL hands down as a spectator sport and is great to watch. Course that probably only works when following a good team. I didn't realise it was red button - bit of a poor show from the BBC as there's **** all else on worth showing at that time of night!
It helps (Max) if you actually have a justifiable reason for following a college, rather than just grabbing on to the coat tails of whoever is having the best run at that given time. Doing that could result in you supporting a team who are latterly stripped of titles, banned from bowls and face criminal charges. Just ask DH or anyone who follows Penn State .
I'd spent time at both Michigan and Connecticut and sadly, all joking aside, DH is correct - there's been very little to cheer about from either school on a regular basis. However, it's about so much more than winning at College level. There's a degree of connectedness amongst college fanbases which you just don't get in many other sports. A school pride, regional pride, where more often than not, the NCAA side are more important than an NFL team, owing to the geographical disparity of the teams at the top level.
DH kids himself on with the standard of cheerleaders in Ann Arbor though - don't make me dig out your complimentary post from last year now sir :na na:

Theyre just different skills. The kicker especially has evolved into such a high specialty skill and they are so accurate these days. (in my youth while mucking about ive kicked a 50 yard fg, but to do it over 50% of the time like the pros do must take amazing accuracy and practice. The leg strength isnt the thing, its the technique. Punting (i think) has more to do with elevation, having the power to get a good hang time.
There was a guy as recently as the 80s who punted AND kicked i think, but i cant remember his name.
another thing, why do we never see barefoot kickers anymore? used to be loads of em.

Michigan are the team you're thinking of and it's still the same. They made the stadium even bigger last year and still sell it out without hassle.
Think it's the 4th or 5th biggest stadium in the world and is one hell of a sight when it sells out and the record attendance is something in the order of 114k.

defo afc championship contenders again, but too early to say about the SB, it was only the bengals they beat after all :greengrin strength in depth might be theyre weakness, lost another Olineman and the rookie who replaced him needed alot of help causing some problems which a better team would exploit, Offense looked good though, team sees rice and aims to stop the run leaving big gaps middle field, worked well last night for Super Joe Flacco

Where to start, where to start. Did any of you watch the game on the red button last night? I gave it till midway through the 3rd quarter and had to give up. If that's how the BBC are going to package the games every week they will turn a lot of fans off. Talking of turning fans off, what has the babestation type music like they had playing over THE SAME BLOODY GRAPHICS every time the US cut to an ad break :brickwall. It honestly got to the stage I had to turn the volume down every time. Who'd have thought you'd ever miss adverts during a game. Then there was the little 5 min programme on the Bengals at half time, WTF was that all about? It was so out of date it was untrue. Also got me thinking about how ridiculous it was that they have an ESPN broadcast with their commentators and yet its on the BBC and not ESPN over here. The money they wasted on it would have been enough to get me to present it and I'd even have Scott on as the side kick :aok:.
Talking about Scott, don't listen to him. Of course it would be easier if you had some sort of affinity with a school or town/city but then you can say that for just about any sports team. How many of the guy's that post on here have actually gone to the US and seen their NFL team play? Doubt it's even half and yet their just as big a fan of their teams than a guy born and bread in that teams city. People can judge all they want but I honestly had NO idea how big the Buckeyes where when they picked me and given that most of my other teams suck, I was due a break. Course, then it all went a bit Pete Tong  but we are on the road back to where we belong.
College ball is awesome and you should all get into it. Even on the PS3, NCAA Football is better than Madden.

Is there any way for you guys to watch online? Would probably be better AND you would get your much-missed ads too. ;)
As for BBC vs ESPN....it wouldn't shock me if ESPN in the UK has very little to do with ESPN over here.

She was an angel sent from heaven to take my mind of watching you guy's . She wasn't the hottest women I've ever seen but there was just something really beautiful about her. Thinking about her (I sound like a pervert) I can't put into words what it was she had but whatever it was, she had it.

I watched a bit of it and agree it wasn't good. They've basically invested nothing in it at all. I was tempted to see if the game was on 5live to get their commentary and just mute the tv.

You can legally watch the games online with gamepass but they block the games that are on the TV and you don't get the play-offs. Costs about £100 to get it.
Just for you .

just watching last nights highlights on tv, you dont get as much of a feel of the game when its just the highlights however the GB played quite well but Cutler seemed to have a bit of a shocker.
Donald Drivers TD celebration was class
Question for the seahawk fans, is your defense stronger against the pass or rush? Or both as good as each other.

Statistically, we were better against the rush(5th best in league) than the pass (11th) last year. We have some of the best db's in the league though so id say its pretty even.

He looks more like a wide receiver than a defensive end, hes small but hes ridiculously fast. If he doesnt get bullied by guys 100 lbs heavier than him he'll get sacks :agree:

I would say that our secondary is really capable of a top level of interceptions this year and hopefully our pass rush will improve. I've got the free trial of gamepass this weekend so will be able to watch every snap for once and analyse a bit more.

They looked good doing it too!
We had a very comfortable win against a very poor UMass team, which was completely expected. Hardly worth getting excited about mind you...
Thoroughly enjoyed the California @ Ohio State game. Having been to 2 or 3 symposiums at Berkeley, I like to see them doing well but expected them to get destroyed yesterday. Thought they played very well indeed and were it not for the 3 missed FGs or their interception at the end, could have walked out with the most surprising of results! Was surprised by how poor the Buckeye defense looked. Was also quite surprised by how poor the QB looked, in spite of all of the praise he's been getting both on here and beyond.
Looking forward to the 2 games tonight. As for us, I expect a comfortable win in Foxborough which inevitably means it'll be tight or we'll lose :greengrin

Little accumulator tonight...
Saints to beat Panthers, conceding a 2.5 point start
49ers to beat Lions, conceding a 6.5 point start
Redskins to beat Rams, conceding a 3 point start
& Seahawks to beat Cowboys receiving a 3 point start.
James.

Looking forward to another evening of top quality football
Saints - Panthers looks like a must win so early in the season, neither will want to go 0-2 and I'm interested to see how RG3 does in his second game. However, I think I'm going to watch the Texans at Jaguars just to see how good this Houston team is before settling in for Jets - Steelers. Loving NFL Game Pass :aok:

Woeful start for us. Gave up a FG on the first drive and then Brady throws an INT on our own 36 yard line.
Ugh...

Awful lot of punch-ups occurring this week.
The replacement officials are struggling to keep control a little.
As an aside, I'm struggling to believe that Kansas City were being tipped to win their division. They're AWFUL.

Was just about to say the same. Panthers and Saints brawling with Newton lying on the floor without his helmet. Ravens and Eagles has been filled with scuffles.
