I know, twitter was going on about how it was a high hit and his neck.
Well this a depressing way to start a new week, our secondary has cost us all season & any team with a top QB/WR will tear us to bits
Looks like we'll miss out on the playoffs now.

Apart from this year are NE in the least competitive division in the NFL? I have admiration for their continued success but part of it has to be the 4-6 guaranteed wins every season.
Yet, Miami beat us earlier in the season and we've lost in seasons gone past to both the Jets and Bills (who aren't a terrible side this season based on how they dealt with the Packers yesterday).
Sure, it probably plays a part in us getting such high records but we've beat a lot of good teams along the way too.

I didn't take it as a dig at all and as I said, it probably plays a part but you can only beat what's in front of you :greengrin
Going to be an interesting closing 2 weeks - away to the Jets next which, regardless to how bad they've been this season, won't be easy and then home to that miserly Bills defense the week after Christmas.
Hopefully we can beat New York next week and that the Bengals can do us a favour by beating the Broncos.

I know its still early but what does everyone do for the superbowl? I usually just watch it in the house with some food and plenty of beer, I've only got one mate into football and my missus.
Does anyone know if the parties at sportsters/3 sisters are any good?
If the Pats are in it then I want to be at home with everything I need right there. Plenty of food and beer. Sometimes we have friends over but every year people do different things. I'm not really interested in going out to a bar to watch it since that means getting home at midnight somehow. I'm sure I will be worse for wear one way or another so being at home is just smarter.
If the Pats aren't in then it's a little different. I still want to watch it but last year I was out for dinner with friends and only caught bits and pieces of it on a TV in the bar. It's still a big game that I want to watch but I'm a lot less fussy about where I watch it. :)

Delighted with our second half after a somewhat lacklustre opening!
6th season in a row as champions of the AFC East and our offense looks so fired up at the minute.
Gronk, Edelman, LaFell, Gray (who returned well today), Blount, Vereen...
Stunned that the Packers lost in Buffalo - advantage Cardinals.
I thought Gray was amazing. We have to make more use of him. If it's true that he was benched / side-lined / in-the-doghouse because he was late to practice the week after his 4 TD week then that is really petty. I think this kid Gray has a real talent and has way of just busting through tackles explosively. I look forward to seeing a lot more of him.

Must be good to have a team who makes superbowls, I'm usually just in the house with the missus but we go slightly ott haha, end up smashed every year.
Love the whole build up to it, hoping for a packers vs pats/broncos final.

Im hoping the Saints win tonight for the sake of the league. If everyone in that division keeps losing, a really ridiculous record like 6-10 is possible for the winners of the NFC South. And it would be just like the NFL to react immediately with a stupid change to the playoff system as a result.
I really thought the Saints would be contenders this year with the new players on defense.

They all got injured on D. Week to week the starters are all changing.
At least we aren't the Bears though. They really really suck.
21-0 so far
Hope the saints win out, with it looking like the eagles missing out with potentially 11 wins I'd rather the saints got as close to .500 as possible.

That's crazy missing out with 11 wins, is that a record? Considering teams with -.500 have been in the wild card before.

I go back and forth on the issue of who progresses to the playoffs. I come back to the same thing and that is that it should not be changed even if that means a team with a crappy record progresses and a team with a good record misses out. Otherwise there's no point in having different divisions - just play in one big division and the top X teams move forward (no, I don't want that). The division difficulty varies each year. There are very few teams that remain constant over a long period of time. Teams that are almost winless one year come back and are challenging a few years later.
I know that the NFC South is pretty bad this year but it's not always that way. All of those teams have been much better in recent history (last decade or so). Buccs won it all in 2002 and the Pats beat the Panthers the year after. New Orleans have been to the SB once....not much I can say about the Falcons I guess (6 post-season visits since 2000).

The penalties thing is starting to worry me now. We destroyed Arizona last week but committed eleven penalties against ONE called against Arizona. For the season, we are the most penalised team AGAIN. Which in itself isn't a cause for conspiracy theories, (it could be down to our style of play being physical and 'on the edge', although id dispute this), but we have the least penalised opponents as well, by an absolute mile. Our opponents have been penalised only 64 times over the course of the season, the next fewest? 86. Which is harder to comprehend. We have the least penalised opponents by 25% over the course of a whole season?!
Carroll has started to mention it in interviews. Sounds like the team is developing a 'noone likes us' mentality. Be interesting to see the penalty countagainst the 'cheap shot' Rams tonight...

Home and away opponents next year have been announced - we have:
Home: Bills, Dolphins, Eagles, Jaguars, Jets, Redskins, Steelers, Titans
Away: Bills, Broncos, Colts, Cowboys, Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Texans
Not what I'd call an easy season next year, particularly 3 arduous road games against Denver, Indy and Dallas!

The road to the Super Bowl is through Seattle and New England, what's everyones predictions then?
I think it will be Patriots v Seahawks.
Does Harbough to michigan sound good?
Harbough is gone.
Rex Ryan is gone.
trestman is gone.
Im not predicting a Seattle superbowl, superstitious reasons, but the top seeds are the obvious favourites. Its easier to say who I think won't get there; Detroit, Arizona, Cincinnatti-shan quarterbacks. Indianapolis, Carolina-all shan except the quarterback. Pittsburgh and Green Bay-cant trust the D against the best teams. This also goes for Dallas but theyve beaten us already this season and I like their match ups against Detroit and Green Bay. And in the AFC Denver has too much talent everywhere to be discounted.
So its Dallas and Denver as the main threats to Seattle and New England. I cant see the wild card teams providing any shocks.

I heard that on the radio yesterday. The radio hosts were surmising that with the $70K+ fine that the league must be focusing more on punishing the player than the team. I don't buy that. He's part of the team and if he misbehaves then they should be punished as well. Maybe then they might try and do something about his repeated bad behaviour.

If you wanted evidence to back up the theory that the league is biased towards the 'big' well supported teams that was it. To pick up the flag on such a vital play without any explanation was bizarre. It was blatant PI, these days a corner is barely allowed to touch a receiver, the Dallas player shoves him twice and grabs the jersey.

Just about recovered...we had some dreadful periods and some inspired periods. The Edelman pass to Amendola was quality, as was our drive before hand by online lining up with 4 offensive linemen - it seemed to confuse the Ravens to no end, as it meant 6 receivers were on the field with one reporting as ineligible. Harbaugh seemed to think this was against the rules right enough and was complaining about it but I don't think it is

I think it depends if you have a receiver who steps up from flanker to split end, or an extra TE, instead of the lineman. As long as you have a minimum of seven on the invisible line of scrimmage that runs across the field it should be legal.

Dallas are a weird team. At the start of the season a lot of folk were picking them to finish bottom of that division. On paper they had a decent tight end (witten) one good running back (murray) one good receiver (bryant) and thats it. One of the worst Defenses in the league, just lost their best player to Denver, dodgy QB, lots of rookies. Now Romo is statistically best in the league, and their defense looks decent and their O Line is reckoned by most analysts to be best in the league too.

I have an irrational dislike of Manning, perhaps fuelled by the 'greatest QB ever' chat that seems to follow him around like a bad smell.
As a result, I enjoyed watching him flounder last night.

great weekend of football.
Should have put some money on my prediction as it all worked out that way.
Also it was never a catch. Refs actually got it correct by the letter of the law.

Ive said it before but the 'best of all time' chat is ridiculous. There are at least five qbs who deserve that accolade more than him.

So who's winning tonight then?
i don't know to be honest, I'd like to see Oregon win it as I think they've done so well the last few years but Ohio St. Surprised me By making it then beating Alabama.
ill be trying to avoid the score and watching it when I get home from work tomorrow.

as a pats fan. this does my head in. the whole brady v manning debate. i might be bias but theres no debate. 3 rings to 1. 9 champoinship games. to 9 playoff games where your knocked out the first game. yeah great his numbers amazing but if you can do it where it counts then whats the point. then you get the brady cheated and all that. Mannings not been able to do when hes had the chance

Absolutely. QBs are there to be leaders and win championships. I think Mannings pro bowls (14) sway a lot of pundits. But the probowls have been an irrelevance for most of its existence.
No one talks about Rodgers either, but if he leads the Pack to victory over us this weekend and gets another superbowl two weeks later he definitely overtakes Manning in any 'best ever' chat. Just look at his qb rating and hes still got potentially 6 more seasons.

Awsome win from them, really impressed with how they set up. A really tough no messing run game and a QB he made the oregon defence look like children. They deserved it and will probably be in the mix next year as well.

This is a tricky one, without a doubt!
I've mentioned on the 'Depression and Anxiety' thread that I suffer from social anxiety, which, for someone who has to lecture to students several times a week is a challenging prospect.
However, it's par for the course for what I do - I wanted to be a lecturer and standing before a large group of people in a vulnerable situation is part and parcel of that role.
If it's written into his contract that he will occasionally need to represent the club and that's part of his role, there's surely an obligation for him to speak to the press, lest he shouldn't have signed it in the first place.
However, there are ways for the club to enable him to speak to the media without him being thrown to the wolves post-game, which in itself would be a stressful experience.

I tend to agree with you. But watching his interviews is now a somewhat painful experience, at first I thought his monosyllabic responses were 'attitude' but you can see he's really squirming. I suffer from the same sort of thing which makes me love Marshawn even more I think!

Its conceivable he's used his crazy athletic ability to compensate for being scared of talking? Its obviously not traditional 'stage fright' otherwise he wouldn't be able to perform on the gridiron as you say. Unless he plays so well because he's in a constant state of fear?
I should really have been a psychiatrist :agree:
How are you feeling about the game Gatey? I think it could hinge on if Eddie Lacy gets some early success. Without a strong running game I don't think you can win.

Hope you enjoyed it DH - quite an impressive team Meyer has put together and thoroughly deserved.
As I mentioned earlier, arch-rivals or not, it was great to see a Big Ten team winning it for a change :aok:
Hoping with our coaching acquisitions over this off-season that next year might see the start of some turning fortunes in Ann Arbor and once more, The Game might be a competitive fixture!
We probably do have THE best rivalry in college football and its about time it became competitive again.

See, as usual I agree with everything you say but then you come out with this stuff. I fully respect you and have said more than once that I'm quite envious of your life and the things you have achieved, seen and done. But............There's next to no chance in the world I'd be on here congratulating you if your lot had won the championship. Good for the Big Ten . Honestly don't care about it (especially after the changes the last couple of years.) Wait till the Patriots get humped in the superbowl, I'll be laughing. None of this good game, good game stuff.

:greengrin - I'm just fed up watching the SEC dominate the National Championship and our conference has become a bit of a laughing stock in recent years, as no team has been competitive! I'm impressed you reckon we'll GET to the Superbowl - tonight'll be tough.

I'm going to be going to all three of the games this year (though I need to get my finger out and buy the tickets). It depends where you want to stay in all honesty - I was told to check out the Hotel Olympia (haven't stayed myself but recommended by friends), down by Earl's Court (a few tube stops from the likes of the Natural History Museum, V&A, Harrods, Hyde Park etc). It's central enough that you can enjoy London with your daughter and it's pretty easy to get to Wembley Park anyway as it's on the tube line. From Earl's Court you're a short hope to Green Park and then direct to Wembley on the Jubilee Line.

I'm in London that weekend anyway so intend to take in the game. I'm staying in the Dorsett in Shepherds Bush. Hotel is newish and supposed to be decent, for London it's reasonable as well. Not the fanciest area of London but 2 minutes from the nearest tube stop.

I've got my ST for the games. If we're staying over we usually stay in a travelodge in cricklewood, £78 for a night and only 2 tube stations away.
Going down to stay with the missus parents for the 2 games within a week, 40 mins on a train from london so saves us a fortune rather than flying down twice in 7/8 days.
