Will be interesting to see how he draft, defence is the focus, but growing in confidence that we are finally starting to build a half decent football team.

Surprised by how aggressive we're being early doors but it's definitely paying off!
Brandin Cooks is a phenomenal trade for us - gives us a deep threat, which we've not really had since Randy Moss left us!
Kony Ealy is also a good capture - he's been quiet in recent seasons, but you don't sack a QB 3 times in a Super Bowl if you don't have some kind of talent!
Plus, Dwayne Allen lining up alongside Gronkowski...what an offense we're building...if Lacy or Peterson land in New England, you might as well hand us the Lombardi again next year :greengrin

If he's fit and keeps his weight down then he could be a great signing. Seems a really low amount of money as well, so a pretty good deal.
Rumours that when he visited teams he was 30lbs heavier than his fighting weight last season though. That's not just something you lose with a couple of weeks of training. At least he has 6 months till the season starts to lose it though.

He isn't though. That's exactly why NFL contracts are just numbers.
It's all incentive based and not a cent in guaranteed money. It's actually a good deal for the giants. He's unlikely to even take a snap as Eli hasn't missed one in his career, but should he be required at least the Giants have a guy who has some ability and has faced an NFL passrush.
Geno gets to sit behind a 2 time superbowl winner for a year in a proper establishment and grow.
The Giants have done some real legitimate business this year. All set for the draft with no glaring needs meaning they can go with BPA.

Basically the Giants pay him max 1.2 mill if he sits as Eli clipboard holder all year and $325k if he gets cut. There's likely zero cap implications for the Giants.

Marshawn is a Raider fan, no secret there, so the move makes sense. The problem is this is such a quiet time of year that the lowest common denominator crappy sports talk shows will make up stories from really flimsy evidence. It is the browns so nothing would surprise me, but they've got two first round picks this year so surely the more sensible move would be to trade up their second pick into the top 10 and select a QB then. Or maybe they'll just stick with Osweiler...

Seems like a crazy move, they gave up a huge amount to move up one position when the 49ers weren't going to draft the guy they picked anyway. Thats the sort of draft I like to see though, people trading all over the place, teams panicking and stretching for players they didn't need to.

There was a rumour doing the rounds earlier in the year that the Miami were considering a move for CK in free agency. Then he turned up in Miami wearing a Fidel Castro t shirt when the 49ers were in town last year and the deal was dropped before it was really a thing. How true that is I don't know but with Tannehill, Moore and Fales on the roster and Doughty on the practice squad I think the ship has sailed.

The only question about the Kaepernick situation is whether a) he's being blackballed by teams' owners because they dont like his politics, or b) the league itself have made sure nobody signs him. I wouldn't be surprised if it is b), apparently ratings for the NFL were down last season and the feedback they got was that part of that was because of the national anthem protest. The NFL is a massive cash cow and if the league sees anything affecting ratings I'm sure they'd want to stop it.
The ridiculous thing is that they are happy with people like Greg Hardy or Mike Vick, but if you are a clean living vegan who thinks America has a race issue you'll not get signed.
Some "league sources" also worry about his vegan diet, course Tom terrific is also a vegan for most of the year but then again tom terrific is white and sings the national anthem so veganism won't affect him so badly....

I always find the American relationship with the anthem and the flag a bit bizarre. They seem to invest a lot more in the physical nature of it than other countries. The irony is they will quite happily see Lady Gaga or, as is the usual for Vegas boxing events, some reality TV Z lister butcher the anthem with that ridiculous falsetto voice they all do.
Kenny Stills was by far and away Miamis best WR last season but his choice to take a knee during the anthem in Seattle saw him targeted with some pretty brutal abuse. Admittedly dropping a certain touchdown scoring and quite possible game winning pass in the same game didn't help his cause. What shocked me was how off piste the criticism got. Stills said he took a knee to show solidarity with Kaepernick and those protesting social injustic and police brutality. Almost every piece of criticism he received was based on his disrespecting 'our heroes' and 'our brave veterans'. I still don't really understand how those anthem protests came to be regarded as anti military. Even if they were then so what? Isn't the right to protest and freedom of speech very much one of the cornerstones of 'American values'? Dolphins fans were actually threatening to 'boycott the organisation' and go and support the Patriots, a team who 'represent American values' unless Still was sacked.
I didn't get it then and I don't get it now tbh.

Lots of Americans dont 'get it' either. Its just a very divided country.
As Sergio said, Michael Vick was the one comparison that came to mind for me. Personally I thought he was the lowest of the low, brutalised defenceless animals, a real bona fide ****bag who I would have hated to see playing on my team. Now there's an individual to get agitated about.

No argument from me about Vick. I watched The Champions recently about the 'Vicktory dogs'. Heartwarming and tragic in equal measure.
Vick is a despicable creature.

I've started to love this sport over the past few years, me and a few mates are heading down to Wembley in the Autumn to see the Saints take on the Dolphins. My mate who first recommended the NFL to me is a big Packers fan so I kind of looked out for them for about a year or so but there is something about the Cowboys that I just love, perhaps its the glamour. :greengrin It pays to have at least one glamorous team in my life.

Might be glamorous but they never win silverware.
Is there going to be a FF league this year?

Never watched it but I like the Bills. Proper blue collar team with blue collar fans with very little to shout about, ever. I still remember Scott Norwoods FG miss in that superbowl loss against Denver (I think) and thinking that's typical of them. Possibly the most unglamorous team in the league and rarely get the media coverage the big city teams get.

Ohio State and Michigan get together to take part in a week long ice-fishing competition. On the first day Ohio State catch 50 fish and Michigan catch none. 2nd day, Ohio State catch 100 fish and again Michigan catch none. The Michigan coach reckons there must be a spot of cheating going on so sends over someone to spy on the Ohio State camp. At the end of the day after Ohio State catch 150 fish and Michigan again catch none the spy returns. "So are they cheating" asks the Michigan coach. "They sure are" replies the spy, " they are cutting holes in the ice".

A family of Michigan wolverines fans head out to do some shopping. Once there the son picks up a Buckeyes jersey and tells his mum he's decided to become a Buckeyes fan and wants the jersey for his birthday. His mum upset at this whacks him on the head and says "go and see your father". Off he goes with the jersey, "dad I've decided I'm going to become a Buckeyes fan and want this jersey for my birthday". The father is outraged, whacks his son on the head and says "no son of mine will ever be seen wearing that". The family head home and the father says " I hope we all learned something today". The son turns around and says "yeah, I've only been a Buckeyes fan for an hour and have already realised that all Michigan fans are ".

Even if the player is undergoing some personal problems they must know that there gonna get found out at some point which jeapordises there career and future earnings or if there a young guy straight out the draft who suddenly has a boatload of cash and thinks he's made it. Sad. The amount of players who get caught smoking blow in a car as well DOH

Compared to Glennon and Sanchez, Trubisky actually has the potential to be a decent starter in Chicago, but John Fox is right - one decent pre-season game isn't going to land him the job.
Having said that, when Glennon throws a pick 6 with his first possession and does bugger all with the remainder of his time on the field, and Sanchez continues to be one of the worst QBs I've ever seen in the NFL, you have to wonder how much longer it might be before he gets his shot.
Still, it's hard to judge anything on pre-season, as most teams don't play ANY of their starters - some of the players we had out against Jacksonville last night were right at the bottom of their respective depth charts.

I think it was mostly his mechanics and his decision making that looked impressive, stuff that will be the same regardless of who he faces. I do absolutely agree that players can look good artificially in preseason though. .

The Elliot suspension fallout is getting pretty dirty. Journalists have been getting leaked information about the character of the accuser and the NFL have accused the NFLPA of leaking the information.
The NFL have said this amounts to victim shaming and is one of the reasons many victims don't come forward in the first place.
The players association have responded by accusing the NFL of trying to deflect attention away from the investigation and it's failings on player discipline.
There's a lot of aspects of this situation that make me feel uncomfortable, but I do have to agree with the NFL, the information that is leaking about the accuser is a clear attempt to publicly discredit her and get the public on Elliot's side. Even if she had made it all up, the investigation and the information during the basis of his appeal should be in secret IMHO.
Obviously Elliot's management team see current lucrative sponsorships and future deals going up in smoke [emoji100] no sympathy at all. Hopefully the league upholds the ban to send out a clear message

The NFLPA statement on the Nfl allegations about the union blackening the name of elliots girlfriend is like something Donald Trump would tweet. The two organisations clearly despise each other.
Elliot's clearly guilty. Hiding behind that beard [emoji85]

Hes not even in the top ten QBs in the league IMO. Crazy, but then again Baltimore made Flacco the highest paid player couple of seasons back and he was the same.
Josh McCown will start for the Jets week one. I couldn't remember much about him (there's other McCowns in the league), so I looked him up. he's 38, has played for seven different teams mostly as backup, only started occasionally, had stints in the UFL, has a passer rating of under 80, only got a few preseason snaps behind the Jets two young QBs, one of whom had a disaster (Hackenburg,) and the other one was seriously injured.

I genuinely feel sorry for the Jets.
They've suffered now for years of poor coaching and dreadful off-field management, and this off-season has almost been like a parody sketch.
They have a hardcore fan base, and a proud history and deserve a lot better than some of the stuff they've been served up in recent years.
I know they're the source of a lot of jokes/banter, and that they're one of our biggest rivals, but I'd love to see a strong Jets team as part of a much stronger AFC East.

True but haven't they named Bortles at starting QB? They won't be winning much there unless their D grinds out.
Pretty sure both teams want the USC QB at #1 next season. (Think it's USC anyway.)

Kearse is a reasonable WR - but you could put the best WR in the league in that Jets team, and it won't make a blind bit of difference with who's throwing to him/making space for him.

I know that Osweiler is a cheap option (Browns have to pay over £15m of his £16m salary this season, but seriously with the D Denver has and players like Thomas and Sanders they'd have a serious shot at the Superbowl this year with Kaepernick. Peyton Manning managed to take them to a superbowl while not being able to throw a pass over 10 yards accurately...

Yeah, I'm aware we have kind of discussed this to death, but it really makes me angry on his behalf. Great article below, which points out that when and if a team does sign him it shouldn't be held up as a symbol of progressive, modern attitudes just because they're doing what is normal behaviour. 34 relative nobodies signed at QB this off-season already remember.

Yeah I may have mentioned it a couple of times before.... It makes me angry as well, he's by no means elite, but he's certainly better than at least 10 of the starting QBs in the league, even based on last season which was poor by his standards. That playoff run was incredible and he almost won the 49ers a superbowl.
It's a disgrace that he's not got a team IMHO and all the pundits who defend the teams who don't sign him with daft excuses are so weak and spineless to not just come out and say why he's not getting signed.
