I know it's the rules, but the catch rule is a joke. If he's a runner that's a TD all the way because he broke the plane. Because he caught it first and then stretched out and the ball moves slightly as he hits the ground it is ruled an incomplete pass. They need to simplify that rule. He caught the ball had it under control and then turned and stretched, it everywhere else except the NFL's complicated rule book, that's a TD. What a sickener for the Steelers!

A lot of debate across social media this morning about whether or not it was a touchdown. I was personally surprised to see it being overturned as an incomplete pass. I understand he's lost control by the time he comes down on the ball, but both hands were on the ball in the end zone...to me, that screams TD - if he'd been a RB, it was a TD.

The last-gasp interception was reminiscent of THAT call in Super Bowl 49 - I struggled to sleep for a while after it.

There are rulebooks you can read online you know, if a receiver and a defender catch a ball simultaneously, the offense gets the benefit, so it was a c-a-t-c-h. :greengrin Anyway, even if win our last two we likely won't get a wild card so that's the season over, and the salary cap situation means most of the big names will move on. That wasn't a normal defeat, it feels much bigger than that.

I'll be cheering on the Bills and the Eagles in the playoffs.

Has anyone else seen the Clay Mathews / Cam Newton stuff from the weekend?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xKnEgrrjzh0

Mathews thinks he’s picked up what the play will be, and is calling it out to his teammates. Cam stops, acknowledges the pick up on Mathews part, says well done (in essence) on watching footage of the Panthers plays, then says ‘that’s cool, Watch this’ with a big grin on his face, then throws a TD on a totally different play.

Really cool watching 2 players acknowledge the skill and effort in each other, in a playful manner, without it turning into something negative 😊

I'm pleased to see the Jets have extended their head coach and GM's contracts after this season.

I don't mean that facetiously either, as despite their record, it looks like they're starting to find some of the pieces in New York.

A competitive AFC East is desperately needed - the Bills have looked good in spells this year, and the Dolphins have been unlucky with a lot of injuries. The Jets have been a work in progress this year and have occasionally looked abysmal, but there's one or two players there that a team could be built around and the head coach appears to have done a reasonable job hitting the reset button.

David Fales starts at QB for Miami tonight. Had read he had been going through the reps in practice this week and with Cutler away after tonight and Matt Moore likely to be cut it looks like they are seeing if he is a viable option as back up to Ryan Tannehill. Personally I still think we will draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round though.

The first two wildcard games didn't disappoint! I was struggling to see past two home wins, but both the road teams came away with victories. Mariota catching his own pass for a TD was a crazy play!

Falcons play the eagles next in Philly and even though it is outside in the cold, I really can't see our offense without Wentz keeping pace with the Falcons offense.

Today it is the Bills Vs Jags and Panthers Vs Saints. Haha should beat the Bills, but the Panthers Vs Saints should be a cracker, hopefully MVP Cam turns up and we get a shootout!

:agree: when I was growing up, the Seahawks made the playoffs 4 times in 20 years. It was a major event those few and far between seasons they had a run and I'd be glued to the screen. In recent years we've been in the playoffs every year, five in a row IIRC, usually along with the Packers. You just take it for granted. So it's really strange seeing other teams battle it out. Belushis on Market Street shows all NFL games. It's attached to a hostel so it's offerings reflect that. Golf Tavern at Bruntsfield used to, not sure about now. Peartree by the uni also shows and there's usually a few guys from the uni football teams there.

I'd recommend Footlights on Spittal Street though. Decent food, beers not bad, big screens, usually a good atmosphere and they can show up to 3 events at a time so there's rarely any moaning. Usuallg a big German contingent in as they show a lot of Bundesliga.

Broncos 100% looking at him. Vance is going to be coaching him at the senior bowl. We have 5th pick. Question is will he still be there at 5?

I have zero confidence that Foles will have enough to overcome the Vikings D. I think that we have a chance in keeping the score low, as our D is pretty good too, and then anything can happen.

We've been better than the Vikings at getting turnovers this season and that could be key. If Foles doesn't throw any interceptions and Ajayi and Blount can keep hold of the ball then we've got a good chance of forcing interceptions or fumbles from the Vikings and in a low scoring game that would be crucial.

I like it to be a low scoring battle in the trenches, I can see the Eagles o line being good enough to establish a running game, 17-14 or something. Big game for Ajayi. But you're right, Foles is unlikely to get much through the air.

It absolutely wouldn't surprise me - they played superbly well yesterday, and we tend to allow big yardage plays too frequently.

If Jacksonville beat us, I'll be rooting on them in the Super Bowl. As nice it would be to see us win a 6th Super Bowl, I've no problem whatsoever watching a team that's never win it before get some success.

Pleased with the win - hopefully Church sees a ban for his helmet hit on Gronk. Looked mightily pleased with himself afterwards too.

No doubt my mate will be back to being an Eagles fan for the Superbowl

My takeaways last night weren't great - our OL allowed them to get to Brady far too often, and Philly have a superb pass rush. Our pass defense was, again, abysmal at times, and Foles likes to throw deep.

I'm surprised to see the Eagles being touted as the underdogs early doors. I reckon they win their first championship this year.

Amazing performance from the Eagles, NFC Champions (that sounds strange...)

I predicted both results correctly but not the way they happened, watched the highlights and Foles was unbelievable in the pocket, such patience, sounds like the fans were supernoisy, that interception return TD was fantastic, and the defensive line looks frightening. I never thought they could pass it against that Vikings D but I was totally wrong. And with Blount and Ajayi making big plays from the backfield they have a balanced attack as well.

Really hoping they actually win it this time, and they have the ability to do it, but the Patriots are still the best in the big games and the smart money has to go on them. I think it'll be another nailbiter, Patriots by 3.

One of our major problems this year has been how much our offensive line lets through to Brady - our pass protection isn't great, and your pass rush is incredibly effective.

I reckon you've more than the capability to make it a torrid night for Brady - to beat us though, I do think Foles and his passing game will need to be on point, because we've dealt with far better running backs this year than Blount (who we know very well) and Ajayi.

Whenever theres a collision or a player falls to the turf it seems like a whole load of black pellets fly up in the air. It wasn't a very watchable game and the commentary team didn't make it any better so we quickly lost interest.

When NFL players get paid by the game and lose a lot of money if they miss games injured they are never going to try too hard in a game like this as they could miss the start of next season if they got a serious injury now. There is no real way around that. I think they were trying harder in the Dodgeball game they had earlier in the week...

I 100% understand why they don't bother putting any effort into the game. No benefit to any injury whatsoever just now.

I used to say it didn't work the same way as the MLB All Star game, as that used to determine home field advantage etc - but that's a pretty stupid comparison on my part, as obviously the MLB is low-impact, non-contact.

IMO, they should just bin it altogether. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it ends up being played in London one year. They'll (rightly) never take the Superbowl out of the US, but the ProBowl is just an end-of-season exhibition/holiday for the players.

Yeah, that might be a possibility, however I can't see the players enjoying London in January as much as Hawaii where it normally is.

It is a pretty cool idea in theory, but it just doesn't seem to work, so I'd probably bin it.

The Barbarians are about as close as we get in British Sport, but even they have lost a lot of their attraction. In days gone by it was current full internationals lining up for the Barbarians, but now it is youngsters and older guys who won't play international rugby again for the most part.

Personally, as much as I'd LIKE to see us win it, I think us having the favourite tag is a total nonsense. This Philly team have been excellent all year, and have one superbly talented defense that will get to Brady in this game. Our defense have given up big yards all year, and Foles proved since taking over from Wentz that he's capable of making big plays and throwing the deep ball.

Not a chance. If anyone has grounds to be confident about your teams chances it is Pats fans, yet you are always quite negative about them, I don't know whether you are trying to convince us or yourself that the Eagles should be the favourites.... :greengrin Brady and Belichick haven't reached 8 Superbowls and won 5 of them for no reason, the are rightly the favourites.

We have a back-up QB who (apart from last week) has looked decidedly dodgy since he came in. We have a defence which has been great against the run but below average against the pass (yards per game), and we're coming up against the GOAT and a passing offense which is 2nd in the league (yards per game) and best in scoring efficiency.

I'm not optimistic. Would absolutely love it if we won, but its the Pats, even if we are winning, no matter the score going into the fourth quarter, I won't be confident about winning it until the clock ticks round to 0:00.

History is no basis for form though - we've reached the Superbowl this year in the face of limited competiton from the rest of the AFC this year, and I don't say that to be a dick to the other AFC teams that aren't here. The NFC teams have generally looked stronger this year, and you've disposed of much better teams than us along the way. I don't disagree, Brady and Belichick know how to get things done, but we've had a lot of gaps on all three phases of the football this year.

Your defense has one of the best pass rushes in the league, and we're completely abject when people get to Brady - we have an elite passer of the ball, some excellent receivers, but the line that protects Brady worries me, and has worried me all year. In the games we've lost, it's when we've come up against defensive lines that can get through to him.

Eagles have been the number 1 seed on the basis of this year since the word 'Go'. Your defense embarassed the Vikings 2 weeks ago, who had been pretty lethal up until that point (though granted, Keenum is far from elite) - you're still the number 1 seed in my eyes, and even with a 5 time winning coach/QB combo, I think this'll be tough.

To be honest this is a funny one for me personally. One of my closest friends was a eagles fan and sadly passed away a few years ago at 33 years of age. We spent many a drunken pub argument on football and we always agreed that if the Patriots and Eagles ever made the super bowl again that we'd go together.

Sadly that won't be happening.

I still want my Patriots to win the game but I'll be glad to see the Eagles win it for my mate.

It'll be a last second field goal just to add to the nerves. :agree:

I've put a fiver on gilmore for MVP at 100/1 (could be a few interceptions in this one) and patriots by 1-3 points. The Gronk at MVP at 20/1 also seems a decent price.
