I know I shouldn't be surprised by anything we do but that onside kick really surprised me last night! Another good win and it was nice to see the Colts knock off the Broncos on the same day.

I still fancy Denver will beat us when we go to Mile High and in all honesty, it wouldn't upset me too much if it stops all this nonsense chat about going undefeated again.

I know I sound like a delusional Pats fan but I haven't seen any team that I am terrified of meeting, including Denver. I know they have the best D this season but the Pats have so many weapons, they can't cover them all. Gronk, Edelman, Amendola and LaFell are all legitimate threats. Blount can keep the D-line honest. Not sure what to expect from White yet though.

Who does Denver have on offense that really scares you?

I don't think there is really any chat / nonsense about going undefeated, at least not over here. The only people talking about it are people in the media. Starting off 8-0 obviously has people, mostly fans, thinking about what might be but I am certain the team isn't consciously thinking about it.

Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if Scott Chandler has a good game. Big guy and the D will presumably be focused on Gronk.

No offence to either team but it was poor fare last night. I was trying to watch Revis against Watkins as much as possible (is it too much to ask to have a red button type system to choose which areas if the field to watch? Its not like the league and the broadcasters dont have the money to invest in something like that.) McCoy was good behind an excellent line. Apart from that it looked like a college game.

A hard fought win for the Pats, but the injuries continue to mount up, and right now they are the only things that could stop the Pats. Huge play by Butler to deny that late TD for Beckham, Absolutely the correct call upon review to rule it as incomplete.

Which particular part? Both feet down, in control of the football is the rule and when both feet were down, he didn't have control of it?

Which particular part? Both feet down, in control of the football is the rule and when both feet were down, he didn't have control of it?

Obviously I am delighted with the decision but, and maybe I need to watch this again, it looked very close to me. The ball did come out but I thought he had his second foot down briefly before the ball came out? I would have thought that as soon as that second foot makes contact with the ground, it's a reception. I don't like all the rules. A player can dive through the end zone and clip the pylon = touchdown. Meanwhile, a player can catch a ball, get one foot down, then another foot down at the same point as the ball comes loose...and that's not a touchdown.

EDIT: OK, I understand it better now but I still don't like the rule. After he has secured the ball he has to have two feet contact the ground AND THEN he has to perform some action to establish himself as a runner e.g., turn to run up the field, brace yourself for a tackle, etc. He didn't do any of that. He got the ball and as soon as his second foot came down the ball was knocked loose. Why I don't like that is why does a receiver have to establish themself as a runner when they are already in the end zone?

Still love the call though. >:-)

SmithyHibee
17-11-2015, 08:55 PM
It looked to me like he was in control when the second foot came down and during it, if it was on the corner of the end zone it would have been a TD

He was, and that's what I was thinking too. However, even though he put his second foot down he did not maintain possession while completing a football move (which is required to establish yourself as a runner). If that happened in the corner of the end zone, same result - no TD. It's OK to be pushed out of the end zone afterward, just as long as you maintain possession of the ball. If you have already established yourself as a runner in the end zone, then the ball gets knocked out of your hands, that's a TD. If you get forced out of bounds, that's a TD also. As long as you've established yourself as a runner in the end zone, anything can happen and it's still a TD. The key is the bit I've bolded above.

Just seen a ridiculous bit of value...Normally superbowl odds are ridiculously stingy but the Redskins can be backed at 250/1 with Betfair  yes, they're an average team but just one game off the lead in the NFC East. Schedule not too bad either, toughest game this weekend against Carolina. Eagles and Giants both bizarrely only 40/1, despite being locked in a three way fight with the Redskins...Minnesota 20/1 is the only other bet that looks reasonable value, Pats are 9/4!

The irony of the situation is that it wasn't our injuries that killed us today. You can't give up 3 TDs to the opposing D/ST.

What do you think caused those turnovers? An inability to connect with the weapons we typically have. We're hampered all across our offense just now and it makes progressing offensively tricky and THAT causes turnovers, even including the blocked punt.

Sure, the injuries aren't responsible for dropped passes, poor OL blocking etc but we are where we are these past 2 weeks because of absences.

As you said, without our weapons we look pedestrian and I fancy we'll be in a great position come the playoffs when we start to get these guys back.

Hes statistically on course for the worst season of any corner back ever.

Also one more penalty and he breaks the single season record too.

Our last night in Seattle was spent in The Lodge Sports Grille, just across from Century Link Field, drinking excellent beer, eating wonderful food and watching the Vikings @ Cardinals game.

For the Seahawks fans, if you ever make it over here for a game, this place HAS to be your pre-game boozer. 70 beers on tap plus around 30 rotators and the food is awesome, with 15 plasma screens showing whatever sport is on!

Couldn't believe Bridgewater didn't just get rid of the ball on the last play to set up the FG last night. Why he kept pumping, trying to find a receiver with so little time on the clock is beyond me!

That doesnt sound like a bad place at all :jealous:

I blame the playcalling really, Bridgewaters still young and will learn, but the coach should have kicked the FG when there was 12 seconds left, was v risky running another play.

I presume they'll all adopt the name of their new home town?

With the conclusion of the season, we've already got our home/away opponents for next season. We had a favourable schedule this year but I think next year is going to be REALLY tough for us!

im stunned Seattle are favourites according to Las Vegas. Marshawn Lynch is out injured, as is Thomas Rawls, so we're going into a game in sub zero temperatures, where the running game is going to be the most important aspect, with our third choice RB who has only played one full game all season. Minnesota? They have Adrian Peterson. We have the leagues #1 run defense so I think the game will be decided up front.

All you need to do is select which team you think will win each game and apply the confidence points in the order you feel is correct. For example, if you think Seattle has the best chance of winning this week you might consider giving that game 16 points.

Bengals implosion last night was funny to watch, the guy Burfict may have slight anger management issues lol

Go Seahawks for this one.

I don't understand the playcalling by Bevell there. Why do we go for it on 4th down with 5 mins left in the half, fall short, and then in an identical position on the next drive at the vikes 30 we punt it away and let Bridgewater take the knee with 1 min left? :dunno: 3-0 vikes halftime.

That was some play by Wilson.

Ouch Minnesota - chance to knock out one of the scary lurking teams with a 27 yard FG and they blow it!

Twice Walsh ended up kicking the laces - surely that's simple, rudimentary basics for a holder to get it laces out?

Seattle vs Carolina should be an absolute cracker next week.

I've played football in cold weather, but nothing like -8 degrees KELVIN! You can't legislate for cold fingers, I'm amazed the skill players did as well as they did today.

Whenever someone says laces out I automatically think of Ace Ventura

laces or not a 27 yard FG should not be missed.

Seahawks were lucky but roll on next week.

I expect nothing positive from the Packers today. The offense is ****.

i never saw this coming. You like that!

So, we're down to:

Pittsburgh @ Denver
Kansas City @ New England

and

Seattle @ Carolina
Green Bay @ Arizona

Anyone fancy any upsets or are we going for four home victories?

I fancy Denver will win easy but the other three are going to be really close games I reckon!

Although I still keep getting these imagies in my head of Payton standing under a set of floodlights with a smug grin across his face after theyve just beaten the patsies. Honestly have no idea wtf thats all about.

Other than the Packers being there that would be my ideal SB.

No idea. But I like the look of the Steelers a lot. Supercharged offense and an aggressive defense. Also, experienced QBs who know how to win in the playoffs have an obvious advantage.

So Pittsburgh at New England
Seattle at Green Bay

But I've changed my mind a few times already :greengrin

I was scunnered about Walsh's fieldgoal what a chance missed! in typical viking style it has to be said.
Hibs and Vikings not a great combo lol

I would expect homefield advantage to provide the winners now.

What a game the National Championship has been so far, Clemson CB Mackenzie Alexander looks a great player, playing with an injury too

Edit : he's now gone off after injuring his other hamstring

Watched it last night and it was some game, I was wanting Clemson to win but Alabama were just too good in the end.

That onside kick as brilliant, special teams won it for them.

If I'm reading correctly the Rams are moving for the start of next season and the Chargers have a year to decide to join them, if they decided against then the Raiders get the chance?

Feel for the fans of the Rams in St Louis who just lost their team.

If Hibs ever moved out of Edinburgh to a new locale that meant I couldn't travel to watch them every other week, you can bet your backside I'd stop supporting them in any way.

When I was growing up the Rams were always the LA Rams, big fast RB Eric Dickerson breaking records. I bet there's still some old time Californians with LA Rams shirts. The Chargers fans have it worse though, been in the city since the 60s and built up a rivalry with the rest of the AFC West. If the league had any integrity they'd make new franchises sign an agreement with a penalty clause if they bailed out on a city too early.
