Cyrus Jones seems incapable of returning Punts at the pro level, yet he was pretty good at that during his college career, needs to sit the rest of the way and get his head right.

Aside from that, Pats won and are in the driving seat for HFA, next up, Denver

Cyrus Jones! Never receive a punt again!

Alqays good to beat the jessies but even better to blow them away like that.

Matt Moore stepped up to the plate big time and we are right in the play off hunt now. Whatever else happens we are guaranteed a 1st winning season since 2008 which I could never have imagined when we were 1-4 and needing OT to beat Cleveland.

Really feel for the Denver D at the moment. They are holding teams to pretty small amounts of points then the offence is totally incapable of scoring which is a mystery as Siemien has actually looked pretty decent and Sanders and Demeryus are good wideouts. Problem looks to be the O line where Seimien has no time at all to make plays and we are just 3 and out constantly. Cant see us making the playoffs this year which after a Superbowl season is V disappointing.

At least my 2nd team the giants are doing better!!

It raises an interesting point about backups, actually. Maybe teams should invest less on superstar salaries and more in a solid squad of 45, especially considering the slew of injuries that are happening. I'd bet that the Pats and Seahawk's wouldn't have won the number of games they have without Garropolo and Thomas Rawls stepping in to famous teammates' shoes. It does seem so. Maybe it's counterintuitive, and the increasing harshness of the rules to make the game less violent means players are artificially holding back from collisions and hence are more likely to get injured? We've all heard coaches in football, rugby, gridiron saying the easiest way to get injured is to try and avoid collisions?.

This whole 'complete the process of the catch when you fall to the ground' rule is nonsense. If you catch it you catch it.

If the role stays however, why, when there's a rushing TD, the rusher does not need to maintain possession of the football through this process? I have seen a number of rushing TD where the rusher loses the ball after the ball has crossed the plane.

Sergio sledge
15-01-2017, 12:05 AM
The ball has to be under control when it crosses the plane into the endzone. The rules mean that the football is not under control in a catch until a 'football move' has been made. There's a bit of dubiety what that means, but in the case of a catch if the catcher goes straight to the ground the football move is going to the ground so it has to be in control all the way through. When a runner puts the ball across the plane it is in control when it crosses so that counts. They have already made their football move, so the play is dead as soon as the ball crosses the plane.

That's my understanding of it anyway, could be totally wrong... :greengrin

Fair enough. I just think if a rusher rushes reaches then the ball crosses the plane but when the ball hits the ground the rusher loses possession it should follow the same rule as the pass completion.

Feels like the Raiders are determined to move, not convinced that LV was a preferred destination, just an option, that has been pushed Higher in the pile when the Rams got the first crack at LA.

Not it sure if LV will fully embrace a pro team, may get more 'out of city' visitors taking in a game proportionately than most other teams.

Have to have a wee bit sympathy for football fans in St Louis, San Diego and Oakland, their teams' owners have shat on them imo.

Oakland sports fans are some of the most passionate around IMHO and one of the things about the Raiders is that the brand always seemed to mesh with the people of Oakland.

Golden State Warriors are also moving out of Oakland, ok it is just across the water into San Francisco, but it is still a move away from their traditional fan base.

The owner is going to pay a $650m relocation fee to go to a smaller market. Why doesn't he just use that money to build a stadium, it might not be as flashy as the new Falcons stadium, but it would be a good stadium and would show some loyalty to the Raiders fans.

We had a few ineffective possessions in the Red Zone that could have made that a much more comfortable margin in the end. Chris Hogan was like a man possessed last night! Our defense looks so solid against both the run and the pass, and it should be a good game in Houston, as Atlanta were clinical again last night!

We're two very different sides: they're a powerful offensive unit, but they rely on the same options a lot of the time - I reckon if you can keep Sanu and Jones quiet, and get good pressure on Ryan, they're there to be beaten. We have such a diverse suite of weapons at our disposal in Edelman, Amendola, Bennett, Hogan, Mitchell, White, Blount, Lewis...if our defense can do what they've done all season (even though we've not faced a team as good as the Falcons yet), we'll have a great shot.

I'd utterly love to see us win another one, no doubt about it (it would be such a massive **** you to Goodell), but I wouldn't grudge the Falcons their first after the season they've had. Would be a great way for them to open their new stadium, by concomitantly unveiling their first banner.

Matt Ryan has used 8 different receivers in each of their last two games. They have two excellent RB's and a couple of good options at TE.

Jones, Sanu, Gabriel, Freeman, Coleman, Robinson, Hooper, Toilolo, Tamme and Hardy all have more than 200 receiving yards in the regular season.

Keeping Jones and Sanu quiet is good in theory, but when they have been kept quiet this season in the same game (not happened often), either Freeman, Gabriel or Coleman has gone and picked up the slack in receiving yards.

It is going to be a cracking game, the big difference between the teams will be the Patriots previous experience. There's no way of knowing how the Falcons will react to the biggest game of them all.

I like crazy outlandish bets at the superbowl. I usually go for a blowout margin of victory (30 points or so, there have been a lot of big wins in superbowl history with one team just choking under the pressure), and the winning QB as MVP is always a good banker as well.

Brady was immense in the 4th quarter!

I can kind of understand their thinking, they've not played like that all season and it has worked well. BUT, they have to play the situation in this case, the Patriots were on a crazy comeback and had pulled things back to within 1 score. As you say, all they needed was three runs and a field goal, they didn't even have to make any yards after a ridiculous catch from Julio Jones. Run the ball, run the clock down, kick the field goal and go two scores up and that probably ends it.

It's on a par with the Seahawks call to pass the ball instead of give it to Beast Mode at the end of the Superbowl two years ago.

The booing for Goodell was good to hear though....

When they were in FG range with the ball they should have just ran it a few times and run the clock down or force NE to use timeouts, them kick a FG from a good distance. Instead they tried to pass it twice lost a ton of yardage that put them out of FG range and didn't get much time off the clock.

There are precedents for pitch damage at the StubHub and the grass has been replaced often (http://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/la-sp-galaxy-chargers-stubhub-center-20170112-story.html). It won't be for long though and hopefully we will get some stadium upgrades to match the new facilities at LAFC's coming up next season.

The chargers are playing at the stubhub? Not big enough surely?

I was thinking the same. Why not the Rose Bowl? StubHub only holds about 27,000 but there is also a grass berm which kind of adds to the atmosphere if they sell general access there and people sit on the grass slope. Should be quite a good atmosphere when packed with enthusiastic fans.

I think the Chargers are trying to give San Diego diehards an easier journey. In rush hour it would take a lot longer to drive to Pasadena than Carson.

Plus the LA Galaxy Champion's Lounge and American Express Lounge are superb for hospitality. The catering is top notch and provided by the same group that does the Lexus Club and San Manuel Club at the Staples Center.

Not the Lakers this year but the Kings can do well as number 8 seeds as New Jersey found out in 2012.

Just watched "Invincible" with Mark Wahlberg about the true story of Vince Papale. They probably still do tryouts at NFL teams and there are a few near you. Imagine being the first Hibby to win the Super Bowl. :greengrin

The Jets do it every year, FP is 5 minute drive for me. My mates Sam and Charlie tried out as kickers the other year, did quite well but the amount out college kids who can kick 60yards plus now means no one is getting them off the streets.

I don't understand why Eli gets such a bad rep - he's a very competent QB that's afflicted by a shockingly bad receiving corps around about him. Give him some weapons and he'd be excellent.

Hard to believe a 2x Superbowl winner still isn't considered an elite QB by some!

It's more that he isn't getting younger for me so look to build to the future when a franchise QB comes available, they'll play under a top QB until then. Younger, cheaper, hungrier players might work for them too.

Interceptions, I think. I haven't got the stats to hand but he has a tendency to force a pass when it's not really there iirc (although there's others on here who watch the giants with more attention than me I admit). He has got Beckham, as well, I wish the Seahawks had a player like that out wide.

Interestingly you can download an app and call plays in real time for the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles, I quite fancy a shot of that to be honest!

Fun article here, I remember most of these games. They neglected one of the worst live on Channel 4 in either 83 or '84. Seahawks at New England in Foxboro, in the days when the Patriots were rubbish and their QB was a baldy dude called Steve Grogan. The Seahawks went 23-0 up at halftime, Tony Eason came on for the Patriots second half, and Seattle ended up conceding 38 second half points to lose 38-23! (and these were the days before offense-friendly rule changes.)

I was offered LA Chargers season tickets by my LA Galaxy rep if I extend my contract by 2 years to 2019. I already signed till 2021 so I told her to hand them over. I have good seats in row F section 109 but no VIP hospitality. There may be a chance I can get a nudge into better seats due to my Staples season tickets with AEG, who own StubHub Center, but I am not certain. I took them because so many people asked me if I could get them and it will be nice to sell tickets at face value to friends plus see the odd game myself. There are only 8 home games a season.

In 2 years time they will move to Inglewood and the new stadium sharing with the Rams. Having good seasons now means first dibs for seats there. Who will get 2021 Los Angeles Super Bowl tickets though? Rams or Chargers season ticket holders?

You deserve one for the way you gracefully posted during the Super Bowl - at least up until you won it.

Last night at the Lakers v Hornets I got a picture with Magic Johnson who was dining with some USC Trojans in the Lexus Club. I also got a photo with the Leishman Rose Bowl Trophy and a few Trojan players who will hopefully become NFL stars. Jeanie Buss was there too and I have to say she is really cute but I was too shy to ask for a selfie.

Suppose all leaps/flips made by RBs/WRs over defenders will now result in 15 yard penalties too, huh?

Absolutely ludicrous decision - might as well just take the defense out of the equation for PATs if that's how we're going to approach efforts to block them.

And as for that tackling thing? Yeah, that's dangerous - let's try playing with flags...

If Cleveland had done this in the third quarter of a regular season game, we wouldn't even be discussing it!
