Easy win for the giants over the packers, 2 things I noticed during the game, they miss mathews a lot and need to establish a consistent running game.

You're still comfortably in a WC slot just now. It'll be tough without two of your key players right enough but another few couple of wins might be enough. You have three very winnable games against Arizona, Buffalo and St Louis and that would probably be enough to see you through. By contrast, the other teams in playoff contention from the NFC are Minnesota (who need to play Green Bay twice, Houston and Chicago), Tampa Bay (who need to go to Denver, New Orleans and Atlanta), Green Bay have what should be a straightforward run-in and all others in the Conference have losing records.
I don't like our run-in one bit - tough one next week away to the fish, followed by back to back home games against two of the best teams in the league in Houston and San Francisco. We're going to struggle to win the next three but thankfully we've built up a good position right now that we should be safe for post-season football (famous last words).

That was a funny play but credit where credit is due, big Vince pushed back Moore (?) into Sanchez's path although you don't quite see it that way in this clip. I'm guessing where Sanchez was headed "was" a hole when he decided to step on the gas. It was still fun. :-)

Bummed about a couple of results this past weekend. In my Yahoo! Pro Pickem I had the Lions and the Buccs. Lions up by 7 go on to lose it in OT. Buccs lost by 1 point. Ugh! Seattle losing was a bummer too but most people (everyone even. maybe) put their points on Seattle so no ground lost there.

We defintely have a tough few weeks ahead of us but I'm still confident. Houston and San Fran are going to be great games to watch. I'm not overly concerned by the Dolphins - their D isn't as tough as it was a few weeks ago.
My biggest (fantasy football) concern is Stevan Ridley, I doubt he will be seeing much action for me over the next three weeks but it's really hard to bench a player who is getting the job done. Jamaal Charles is still getting points even though the Chiefs are 1-9. Brady can't throw the ball all day against the Texans which means that Ridley will get some touches - more if the Pats can build up a lead. Big IF. It's going to be a fun end to the regular (fantasy) season.

I didn't need to get rid of them, I just wanted different players, but now that the trade deadline has passed I'm happy to have both on my team and the Giants have a nice schedule :
WAS - 31st against the pass,
NO - 30th against the pass, 32nd against the rush
ATL - 23rd against the rush
BAL - 23rd against the pass, 26th against the rush

If we can get out of the next 3 games with a 2-1 record (I really can't see us stopping the 49ers but Houston have looked a bit shakier in recent weeks and Schuab isn't exactly a terrifying prospect) I'll be happy enough.
Even if, worst case, we go 0-3 (I agree with you, I think we're capable of dealing with Miami) our lead in the AFC should be well enough protected to get us past December. If we could win all 3, it would be a big statement to take one of the automatic qualification spots and save us having to play an extra game!

66.2 points so far. I agree that up until THIS point he's been of little use but he is almost back at 100%. I figure most teams will put their primary corner on Cruz which leaves more freedom for Nicks. I think that he will have a decent finish. I also think that Manning's "tired arm" will have contributed to his poorer numbers, but mostly his injury.

Your oversight is in failing to realise that you haven't suddenly acquired a decent QB, core of receivers or offensive line and your defense/special teams are also still the same. Also, Rex Ryan hasn't resigned and been replaced by someone who actually knows what he's doing.
In short, your run-in might not look overly difficult but as you rightly point out, this is the 2012 NY Jets :greengrin

49ers have been trying to get rid of him for a while. They see Kaperneck (sp?) as the future and 9/10 pundits reckon their right and that he is the better player. Haven't seen much of him but he looked really good the other night and I can't see them all being wrong. Factor in that Kaperneck has a long term contract on a much less wage than Smith then it all kinda makes sense. If they don't make the SB though I can see it come back and bite Harbaugh in the ass. As for Smith for the Jets, forget about it. We're going to do something really stupid and sign Vick :doh::doh:.

Couldn't believe my eyes. Thought NO had a chance but the first two drives (TD then INT) changed my mind. Drews had a nightmare last night. I know it doesn't count on the stats sheet but it was really 6 INTs, he threw one just before his 5th but didn't count because of a DEF penalty.
I still don't rate ATL. To only beat NO by 10 with their crappy D and with Brees throwing 5 picks. Seems like they should have destroyed them.

I believe that this has since been confirmed.
He apparently shot his girlfrined then drove to the Chiefs' practice facility. When police got there, Belcher was holding a gun to his head and standing in front of Pioli and Crennel. He thanked them, then shot himself. Belcher has a three month old child.
This is just a desperately sad story.

Looks like we're AFC East Champions again but it's beginning to feel a little redundant as there's absolutely no competition in the division.

I said earlier this year I thought you would run away with it again. The Dolphins have improved a little, the Bills have been surprisingly disappointing while we are just a mess.
I'm really interested to hear what Rex has to say about the situation now. The NY fans have been clamouring for McElroy to get a chance and he looked fairly competent (compared to Sanchez anyway - the interceptions today were just horrendous!) Ryan's got a big decision now, keep going with a QB we're heavily invested in for the next five years or go with the young arm in McElroy. Personally I'd give McElroy a run as we've very little chance of making the playoffs. What we do with Sanchez if McElroy does well I don't know!

I'll be amazed if Sanchez is the starting QB in NY next year. He's clearly uncomfortable in the role, whether it be a result of pressure and expectation or simply that he's not good enough. I don't know if it is a case that he's just a poor QB or not - I'm obviously imbalanced but he's never impressed me in any of the games I've seen him in and he's looked even worse this season than any previous. The consistent absence of offense and number of turnovers this year have been unbelievable - you've probably seen the Jets more than me this year, so let me ask: Is it mostly all on Sanchez or is his protection a real issue?
If Rex is sensible, he can see that Sanchez isn't fit for purpose. I'd like to see him persist with McElroy, as I'm curious to see what the Jets can do with someone competent at the helm. There were some promising looking receivers in your offense early doors but they've disappeared as Sanchez can't seem to find anything through the air.
Indianapolis win in the last second against the Lions, St Louis and San Francisco look like they're heading towards another tie and Seattle turn over the Bears in OT. What a night :greengrin

I had given him as much as leeway anyone as I felt he was still relatively young and was playing in a pretty intense market (he drew a lot of comparisons to Eli in his first years in NYC). However this year he has regressed significantly, so much that it can't just be put down to the O Line and the receivers at his disposal; he looks terrified to be out on the field at times. It's a real shame as he's a very likeable guy and presents himself well in the media even when they are killing him. We'd have to take a big hit if we were to cut him now but it could be for the best long term.

Thanks to Facebook pal Rob for sharing (http://www.facebook.com/Mike.J.Sando.ESPN/posts/303449403105086) an ESPN Playoff Machine scenario (http://tinyurl.com/sandofootballfantasy) producing three NFC West teams in the playoffs.
This is exactly what we need to cap a wild day in the NFC West.
The way Rob drew it up, San Francisco became the third seed at 11-4-1. St. Louis was the fifth seed at 9-6-1. Seattle was the sixth seed at 9-7.
For this to happen, the Rams would beat Buffalo, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Seattle. The 49ers would win all their remaining games except for one at New England. The Seahawks would beat Arizona and Buffalo before losing to the 49ers and Rams.

For some reason, I thought there were only 2 games left of the regular season.
I'd suggest Cleveland is unlikely - they're currently 5-8 so would need to beat Washington, @Denver and @Pittsburgh to get to 8-8 and hope both Pittsburgh/Cincinnati lose all of their remaining games - certainly not impossible but unlikely IMO.
I guess the three realistic contenders are indeed the Steelers, Bengals and Jets:
Pittsburgh: @ Dallas, vs Cincinnati, vs Cleveland
Cincinnati: @ Philadelphia, @ Pittsburgh, vs Baltimore
NY Jets: @ Tennessee, vs San Diego, @ Buffalo
Pittsburgh probably have the most straight-forward run-in of the three, closing with 2 home games but all three are capable of winning 2 of their remaining 3 games.

Well the bounty rulings are out from Tagiablue, Saints players all have suspensions dropped. Intresting that this came out after our season is effectively over. The law suits from the saints players for defamation against rodger goodell will continue.
The most intresting part of the ruling for me (page 17) was that the Packers in 07 and Patriots in 08 ran the exact same system that the Saints have been found guilty of. Both teams were fined 25k each.
I dont know why then that the saints a year later were fined, suspended players and coaches and had draft picks taken away from us. Its almost like we were the scapegoats so that goodell can defend himself in the injury law suits. A season destroyed by one mans agenda. I dont know how still is in the job.

Hey, I'm not arguing. Fact we are still in the running is a joke but with a bit of luck, all or 3 remaining games are winnable and if we did win them I reckon it would be enough to sneak the last spot. Course, being the Jets we'll probably blow it big style.

Id say Cincinnatti look to have a better chance. I like Andy Dalton and they have a good D now. The Chargers have a very gentle finish too; carolina, jets and the raiders, could easily finish 8-8 and sneak it if anyone slips up.
In the NFC, i can see a few twists and turns before the end. the Giants and 49ers could get caught by the chasing pack and have to settle for a wildcard.

Cincinnati beat Philadelphia 34-13 last night and take a step towards the playoffs. They'll be hoping for a Cowgirls win to give them a lead and knock their confidence before the game in Pittsburgh next week now I guess.
I'd still want Pittsburgh's run in at the moment, even if they do lose in Dallas. They have 2 home ties against divisional rivals to reach the playoffs. If THAT can't fire a team up, they're beyond help!

The Seahawks are looking a little bit good. The right time of year to hit form! Just makes it all the more depressing to look back at a couple of the games we should never have lost earlier in the year.

Not getting carried away, but when you remember that we don't lose at home then it's looking like 5 wins on the bounce to close out the season. Okay, maybe a bit carried away
Still, you can only beat what's in front of you so I'll take the 108 points viewing over the last week.

Only Brady or Eli Manning would do in that situation but woeful, just woeful onside kick. Do they ever come off? I remember the one in the superbowl but no one was expecting that, this was clear as day and just pitiful.

Brilliant to have clinched the NFC North for the 2nd year, the Bears were looking brilliant through the first half of the season and a Wild Card was looking the best option, I cant see us catching ther 49ers for the 2nd seed but the 3rd seed is a decent one as well.

I still think we have a chance to catch the second seed for the AFC if not the first. Out of the four teams in the hunt for #1/2, our run-ins are thus:
New England: @Jacksonville, vs Miami
Baltimore: vs NY Giants, @Cincinnati
Houston: vs Minnesota, @Indianapolis
Denver: vs Cleveland, vs Kansas City
I'd fancy Denver to win both of their remaining games but Baltimore have a hard 2 closing games, with both teams still fighting hard for the playoffs and Houston have a difficult trip to face Indy and host a resurgent Minnesota team still fighting for the playoffs also.

What a thoroughly disappointing game from the Pats. It's funny how sometimes it's not just one thing that goes wrong, it's everything. Taking nothing away from the 9ers D, but the Pats didn't make things too difficult for them barring the comeback. When we were 31-31 I went to the kitchen to get something and when I got back the 9ers' were already in our half and I sat down just in time to see Arrington miss a tackle and the 9ers get back to 7 points ahead. Ridley is worrying me a little. That's 3 fumbles in 2 weeks. The one last week was picked up by Lloyd for a TD so that's "OK". His first one yesterday wasn't really a fumble since he was down by contact, but he still lost the ball. Then there was the real fumble. And then Vereen fumbles too! The weather last night was perfect for Pats football but the 9ers looked more comfortable. And then there were lots of dropped passes. Still, we had a tough three weeks against MIA, HOW then SF....now JAC and then the fish at home so hopefully we can build some momentum again.
As for the onside kick. I don't think it was awful. How often do they really work anyway? It didn't look good but when the analysts were talking about it afterwards they were saying that on it's 2nd or 3rd bounce it should have hopped high into the air. If you watch it in slow mo you will see that it does hop up but only a few feet rather than about 10 feet. I don't know how anyone can expect a kicker to have that much control over the spin of the ball. I think they just practice it over and over again and hope that it pays off. I would be that in practice situations it works about 5% of the time. And there's only a 50% chance of that. ;)

Tebow threw five passes this entire season for 39 yards. His future's still up in the air. Sanchez on the other hand has proven he just isn't good enough for the NFL, though. I was looking at his career stats earlier, even when the Jets had their playoff runs his ratings are around 70 or lower and as many interceptions as TDs. He's been lucky to have been given as long as he has.
I can see Matt Flynn, Vick or Alex Smith at the Jets next season. The good news is there are a lot of decent experienced QBs out there without a starting job.

His future is clearly in the ground. When your #1 is so terrible they put in a guy who has only played one game ahead of him? His team mates at both teams have slated him, he clearly isnt rated anywhere in the league or someone would have tried to get him before deadline day.
Tebow is all hype, always has been since he set foot on an NFL field. The ESPN analyists are all saying he is over too. Especially at QB.

You might be right about Tebow, hes certainly not going to be a success in a standard pro offense as QB. My point is that he cant really be blamed for the Jets' horror show this season. Thats down to Sanchez and his teammates.

Sanchez shoulders a lot of blame - but so must the coaching staff, more so IMO. He looked great a few seasons ago, little raw perhaps but the coaching staff have not secured any top level receivers for him to target either. And some of the plays this season were a shambles all over the field, what are they doing between games?!

I feel sorry for Tebow. Whether or not you rate him he deserves to know what his future is. Why have him on the roster all year long as the backup, drop your starter and then go to your 3rd string? It's obvious that Tebow's future is not with the Jets but I don't think they gave him a fair crack. Maybe they didn't like what they saw in practice, I don't know, but the whole thing just stinks. I think the Jets handled this pretty badly and I would like to see if Tebow could develop into a better QB - but which team would take the chance?

Why would JAX sign Tebow when then can get a top quality QB from the draft?
Tebow may sell jerseys but he doesnt fill seats IMO. Jax people may want to see a local boy at QB but he brings too much baggage - not all his fault but that is what he brings.
I dont rate the guy (clearly) but I do accept that he has taken all this well, he hasnt moaned or cried in the media despite the fact he was clearly misled on his position at the New York Jokes, er, Jets.

If Jacksonville got a good coach from college football that runs the option offense (the guy from Oregon Ducks?) and put Tebow in the centre of it it might just work:agree: Some good NFL teams run a version of the QB option these days (San Francisco, Washington, Seattle)

They've been greatly helped by being in such a poor division. When you look at their schedule, they failed to beat the Falcons, Texans and Patriots and there are no results there that raise the eyebrows as a particularly good win. Undoubtedly they're one of the top teams in the NFL but I can't see them winning the Super Bowl.

The pro bowl committee has clearly been on the egg nog. Of Seattles four defensive backs, they've chosen free safety Earl Thomas, probably the weakest of the four, while ignoring Kam chancellor, Browner and ludicrously, no Richard Sherman either:confused:
49ers get 9 players, Texans get 8 players (Schaub a pro bowl QB? :hilarious) and Pats get 7.

The probowl is a joke. 5 Chiefs! they are the worst team.
Victor Cruz and Jeff Saturdays inclusion is rediculous. Saturday has been benched by the packers.

Richard Sherman is tweeting that he won his appeal. Just a little bit more confident now!

I'm massively excited about Dallas-Washington later, what an end to the season:thumbsup:
most of the early games are irrelevant to the playoff picture, although Bears just starting at Lions in a game they've got to win. Eagles have started their game with the Giants with a successful onside kick!

What a night for us - Colts beat the Texans, Bengals beat the Ravens and we're looking comfortable against Miami right now.
I think I'm correct in saying that if it stays this way, we'll move on to 12-4 and take the #2 seed in the AFC ahead of Houston?

Russell Wilson ties Peyton Mannings record for most TD passes for a rookie QB:not worth looks like 49ers will stroll into the bye week as NFC West champs, Vikings are beating Packers So as it stands, wild cards next week will be Vikings at Packers and Seahawks at Cowboys/Redskins...
In the AFC, I'd want to avoid the Bengals, they're on form.
Edit...
Oooh Pack score now 24-27. Bears fans cheering on the Packers :greengrin

If I'm wrong with my assertion that we'll secure the #2 seed, I think we'd face the Bengals at Foxborough next weekend. That being the case, I wouldn't be overly worried, as I fancy us against anyone at home. However, If I'm right enough, It'll be Cincinnati @ Houston...
I certainly fancy Denver will be in the AFC Championship game and I wouldn't fancy taking them on at Mile High right now!

Yep, with any sort of win you have a bye as #2 seed, and Houston will be playing the wild card:aok:
The wild cards will be:
Cincinnati at Houston and Indianapolis at Baltimore.
Exciting stuff in the NFC North, Packers tie it at 34-34 late in the 4th. Packers fans: a tie will not be enough to get the bye, you need to win outright.

What a finish. Bad news for the Pack, but at least you get a chance for revenge next week at home. Peterson, close but no cigar:cb

Shutting out the Dolphins to secure a first round bye (aided by the Colts doing us a favour), Bills trounce the Jessies one last time for amusement this season and the Giants are out of the picture.
What a pleasing evening :greengrin

I think there will be a few surprises next weekend. Seattle at Washington, two teams playing at the top of their game, I think Seattle can win this. I also like Cincinnati to beat Houston, Green Bay to beat Minnesota and Indianapolis to beat Baltimore.
