Pretty much where I am.
If someone offers serious money for him I’d let him go if we could get someone else lined up. Whilst he’s had his moments they’ve been over a 6 month period and I don’t think he’s performed like a multi million pound player generally speaking. He’s been much improved since last season but if you asked someone on Friday if they’d take millions for Campbell then I think near enough everyone would say yes, I don’t think one hatrick against the most woeful of Aberdeen sides should change that too much.
If we can extract £1.5m or so from someone for him I’d take it.
Words fail me.
If you can’t see a real talented player in Campbell now you never will.
Campbell is fast becoming one of the brightest midfield talents in Scotland.

Can someone going to the game make a wee detour and just check who is boarding?!

Or you could argue he scored a few in September then didn’t score again for 17 games until January. I think he needs to be doing it consistently before we are talking about selling him for millions.
I’m not trying to criticise Campbell here but the result at the weekend hasn’t half elevated the abilities of everyone. I don’t think anyone will be offering millions for him just yet.
I agree, but you could also point out that in that time he’s mostly been asked to play a deeper role and at times out of position at right back.

Glad someone else rates him.
His energy, driving runs and intelligence of his runs too are very good. I read a lot about him not being as good on the ball but I don’t see it, I see someone who is capable with the ball on both feet and can ping a pass, hit a good shot and more often than not a good touch.
He might not beat 5 men by dribbling or play a Scott Allan type ball, but he’ll run past those 5 players off the ball and get on the end of the cross.
He’ll close folk down with intensity, wins the ball back, is good in the air, tracks his man and just covers a lot of ground.
22 years old, 8 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season by January.

Nobody said he’s not a talented player, you’ve just made that bit up. You have to be a talented player to be getting talked about as a £1m+ footballer like we’re currently discussing.
I don’t think he’s a multi million pound footballer though and I’d suggest pretty much nobody else on here would have either before Saturday. I don’t think a hatrick against a woeful Aberdeen side (and that’s not to take anything away from Campbell) has suddenly doubled his value.

His 1 touch pass to set up Nisbet was Allan-esque. Great vision by him.

He was my player of the season so far before Saturday. I normally agree with the majority of your posts but I'm amazed you're so eager to sell one of our best players for the relative pittance of £1.5M? It's all monopoly money anyway and history shows we very rarely reinvest the sales of star players in a way that improves the team overall.

Findlay, Wright and Williams would be a very positive end to the window. Can’t see it though.
I think the focus will be on one more centre-back, with a few irons in the fire in case of any late departures.
Swindon are going for promotion, so I can't see them selling their star man and Williams will be rolling in it from his earlier days, which means a modest bump in wages is not going to make much difference. Maybe he'll fancy a new challenge in the summer though...

All I said was I’d sell if someone offered serious money. I’m not sure that equates to being so eager. The same can probably be said for every one of our players.
I personally don’t think Campbell offers us £1.5m+ of football player. Not many players do, hence why we’ve only sold 13 players in our history for more than that, so that’s not an insult to Campbell.

Can't believe the mentality of the nutters wanting to sell Campbell. He's only just blossoming as a player and has what- 3 or 4 years left on his deal ffs. Let us enjoy him and the fruits of the coaching staff's labour before flogging him off to the highest bidder thanks very much - indecent haste doesn't quite cover this bizarre take.

He's not one that's going to add to a strong spine of the team to be relied upon in there. Might have looked OK at Celtic making the odd cameo with 70% possession at home just being asked to shift the ball side to side and slip balls through. But he doesn't offer enough in the side of the game we need most weeks. Not the type we need I don't think.

As reluctant as he is, I'm confident that I'll get some form of agreement out of him soon! :greengrin

I'd keep Tavares, he's got quick feet and plenty of ability. His problem is he needs to put on some muscle, same with Henderson. Agree on Magennis, it's beyond a joke now.
Said it before, Tavarez is brilliant at taking the ball in and running away from goal, that's all down tto having quick feet and little ability.

We should be doing everything in our power to keep a hold of these players and not letting up and coming players be sold for peanuts.

I don't think he was well below average here. He was decent enough (in ability not personality/attitude) but I didn't think he'd go onto to play for clubs like Spurs and Atletico Madrid. We had another right back on loan from Norwich at the same time, George Francomb that I thought looked a better player than Doherty. We tended to shift him round positions. He's now playing in EFL 2. Shows how much I know.

It wasn't just the goals, it was his overall play which has been superb in an underachieving side. He's a young man going places we would be foolish to let him leave unless it's for BIG money.
It’s not just goals, his energy, tackling, running, attitude would be hard to replace. He also played really well against Hearts with unfortunately nothing to show for it. Not sure where we are supposed to get a ready made replacement without spending a lot of money.

Kabongo Tshimanga - discussions ongoing. Chesterfield want his release clause met.
Hopefully the next one in is Tshimanga as that means we would have to sign Wright and Williams by default.
The Egan-Riley, Tshimanga signings fall within the young inexperienced loan/lower league punt bracket and with our colours tied to the mast around proven ready to go quality we would need Wright and Williams to tip the scales back.
It sounds like a plan.
And we'll take Arfield and Turnbull too. Sorted.

He's 26 in the summer, and prior to Boreham Wood and Chesterfield, he hasn't really been successful.

How old was Vardy when he left Fleetwood in the National League to join Leicester? Not for a second saying he's as good as Vardy but there are talented players to be found in that league

Also not saying it happens all the time but there have been a few players in their mid twenties come up from a low level down South and make a good impact up here of late - I'm thinking Nouble at Livi, Akinyemi at Ayr and Regan-Cook at Ross County.
If a player is tearing it up at that level and on a good, upward trajectory then you might expect them to continue that momentum with us. If they're dropping down the leagues, not playing particularly well or the like then that would be a different story.

I agree, and I support a side in the league below Chesterfield and frequently see players I believe could play at a higher level.
The difference is that teams in England with vast resources can gamble on a player like this, or Vardy, with little effect if it doesn't work out.
Hibs can't afford to be wasting vast amounts of money (for our circumstances) on gambles at this level.

Unless we had a replacement signed up we would be mental to let him go now unless it was for silly money. Our midfield is already short with Magennis unable to last more than a fortnight and JDH and Henderson not exactly banging down the manager's door for a game, we absolutely need Campbell at this point.

We need to substantially strengthen our midfield options, not weaken them. From Nizzy's point of view that would be more like it, an absolute sleeping giant of a club with a big stadium ( all be it with a bloody stupid name ) and crowds of close to 40,000 every week even in the championship. The big worry would be if they made an approach and Hibs said no, I wouldn't blame him for taking it badly if that was to happen.

Why do we need to sell him for $1.5m? What would that get us thats better than a proven goal scoring midfielder with good prospects to get better?

Was a big surprise to see him linked. He is out of contract and so if you bid enough you have a chance as long as hes ok about moving. We only got him as he was close to our former head coach and hes had injuries throughout his career.
Last season it felt like he had a job share with another player who had injury problems. Our sports science guys seem to have got more games out of him than hes ever had.
Hes our top scorer. I always feel he should run games but he doesnt. Sometimes you wouldnt know he was out there. But if your dominating the ball, he can effect a game. Runs well with it, beats people. Often finds himself on the floor either winning or looking for free kicks. Out of possession hes nothing much as not combative in any way. But he will get and make goals.
Our fans would not be happy if he left. I see we have turned a bid down. If you bid enough we will give Jonny the option to leave.

In that case if he does come to Hibs he had better bring them with him, cause our sports science guys seem to have had issues keeping quite a few of our injury prone players on the park.
For all the enthusiasm for bringing him in on here your assessment has tempered mine a bit. We need players who can make us dominant in games, not ones who only shine when we are on top in a match. This is a league where in many games you have to win the battle to be able to play, can't say I'm much enthused by a player who reading between the lines goes MIA when the going gets tough.

Wright is 'set' to join Rotherham... its not a done deal.... just like Nisbet was 'set' to join Millwall....
Issuing a hands off is all well and good but if we offer something they can't refuse, which might not be that much then they'll take it... and if the player says he wants to leave then that helps.... Williams is only got 6 months left... we may come out of this with a pre-contract at least.

6 figure fee option to buy. Got to say, while Melkersen & Johnson haven’t had much impact on the first team, they can still be considered successes if we sell them for profit.
