They probably need about 10 players out before bringing in 1 or 2 then. Sounds like us too.

Are they still owned by the Venkys ? That’s astonishingly low turnover for a club of that stature.

They still own them. You’d be surprised at the size of some of the clubs in the championship, all helped massively by media income

You’re probably right, I still see them in ‘old money’ as being a really good, traditional English club with a bit of history behind them. Astounding that they only get that turnover in that league though.

Is there much wrong in what was said? Do you think it’s good enough we have no new faces ahead of another derby after 3 weeks ago?
Planning our signings around one game isn’t the best policy (obviously i want dross out & quality in)..If someone comes in now I doubt they would be playing any more than a cameo roll. No one seems to be in the know & club saying nothing so no ideas if we’re in for anyone that’s either in pipeline or fallen through.

That’s exactly why I’m not panicking about signings but would much rather see a couple of young players get a start and get stuck in. There’s nothing better than supporting our own 👍

Ron Gordon being invisible now suggests he's ashamed of his repeated mistakes, backing up signing policy on podcasts and with media with little to no evidence to his stance. Or, as you say, he's looking to sell.
Or maybe he just isn’t well enough just now.:dunno:

I wish some of the young ones would get promoted. Can’t see it for the derby but really can’t see why some are getting nothing but the odd seat on the bench. Some might say the manager sees them regularly but not sure i trust his judgement after some of the recent selections.

It mentioned in the original article linking him to Aberdeen that nothing would be happening before the weekend. Obviously things can change but if that has came from the Sunderland end then I think it’d be unlikely he will be here for the Derby.

He could also do a lot worse than a club who should make the Championship play offs this season.
That was the John McGinn path to the premier league.

All the departures may have left room for improving the squad but I am not convinced. Kenneh and Melkersen had a role to play this season yet we still have a few around like Miller, Tavares and Mitchell who clearly do not.
We haven’t signed anyone and it’s now the 20th of January. Clearly the recruitment team have not identified targets early enough and now we are up against it going into what is now the biggest game of the season so far.
Other clubs are prepared and got their business done swiftly. It’s fair to judge at the end of the window but feel we are putting ourselves in a perilous position by shipping players out when nobody has been signed.
We just need to hope Nisbet outscores them on Sunday as we aren’t keeping a clean sheet or dominating the midfield with the players available.

I’ve not noticed that. But in this instance it seems like if this guy is any good he could most certainly come in for a few years and help steady and improve the defence.
It’s an area that we need better.
I personally don’t think Hanlon or Rocky are good enough to be starting, I would like to see us bring in better and have them as back up.
I appreciate a lot of folk won’t agree with that, but that’s how I see it.
I’d like a lot of the team to be ousted to the bench because of quality additions to be honest, but I know that’s not going to happen this window at least.

It's weird.
With modern sports science being what it is, you'd expect players who have looked after themselves to be able to meaningfully contribute to an older and older age. Defenders in particular will often improve with experience too.
McGeady has shown that it's possible to maintain a pretty handy burst of pace to a good age.
Obviously, as ever, it's all about the balance and blend. You wouldn't want to full your squad with old boys but equally you wouldn't want to be without a few.

You also should factor in that the manager has worked with him before and may regard him as better than what they were otherwise targeting/had available to them.
Reacting to a better player being available, despite having had a lesser player in your sights for a while (for a number of factors) should not be seen as a failure.
In reality, none of us know whether what you or I are saying. What we do know is that if the club bring in a player who is better than what we have, then that is a positive for the recruitment.

If you get the chance to sign a player with a lot of games at a decent level, who wasn’t previously available and you do it, that isn’t a failing of anything.
Not every signing needs to be scouted for months or years. If anything, this is the type of thing we’ve been crying out for where the manager knows the player well and is clearly behind it. If there is any truth in it that is.

It's not about the best offer. It's about where RP wants to go. He has all of the power in this situation, surely?
He may want the club to earn a few bob but if he doesn't fancy the highest bidder, we can't force his hand.
Apparently we turned down a first bid from Udinese so we still have plenty say in what happens.

Porteous says he wants to win the cup with Hibs.
Could he be waiting to see if we progress on Sunday before deciding whether to go no, or sign or pre contract or run his contract down?

That’ll be because Porteous hasn’t forced our hands yet.
Blackburn could off Hibs 1 million but Porteous says no and signs a pre contract with Udinese which results in us being in a position where we have very little room for negotiation.
Thankfully Porteous hasn’t done that yet though.

I would just point out that, unless you believe Bailey Wright is better than Porteous, this signing (if it materialises) still only leaves us worse off than we were at the start of the window.
The people who have screwed up so vastly on the footballing side have yet to make any amends and this signing literally would not even begin to do that.
Apologies if this seems overly negative, but I'm expecting much more from this window than an as yet imaginary DoF and a downgrade on Porteous...perhaps they will surprise us.

I didn’t write anyone off. I mean no part to play/impact this season as in it makes more sense for Miller and Tavares to go out on loan than Kenneh and Melk.
Melk loan makes sense as he wasn’t getting game time.
Kenneh, i thought looked decent when i had seen him so was surprised.
Tavares i agree should go on loan.
In terms of Miller, we only have Cadden at rb other than the youngster who isn’t getting a shot. Cadden, for me, is not the answer at rb so it makes complete sense to keep Miller and hopefully get him in the starting 11.

Its ridiculous, we need to prune here so midfield can get some attention.

I agree. Age isn't that important but I would say experience of the first team football at a decent level is what is needed right now.
It's a hell of a lot to ask someone (regardless of age) to come into our first team when we are struggling and put in a performance week after week. That is what we need though and generally that is going to be tough for someone who hasn't played much first team football.

Sadly we don’t seem to be able to identify good young players. Every single one we’ve signed under this failed Gordon recruitment policy hasn’t been anywhere near good enough to make a lasting impact in the first team. Rocky has definitely improved and is probably the only positive but I still have my doubts about him too.
I’d rather we signed players that have a higher chance of impacting the first team. A 19 year old (likely on loan) isn’t what we need at this point imo.

Judging on those very brief clips he seems to be a central defensive midfielder in a similar vein to Kenneh. I don't understand why we would ship Kenneh out on loan to then bring in another youngster in that same position who is also not tested at this level. He might be decent but so might Kenneh be given time/game time.

This. As frustrating as all the waiting is, I think I actually admire the club taking the time to get the right deals of the right quality (I say this hoping the players are of that quality). To often in recent years we have spent January bringing in half a team and history shows we have had little to no value from vast majority of them. If it means we take time and sign 1/2 that will make a significant contribution then fine by me and show the club have started to learn from their mistakes. Ideally these players would have been in by now, maybe just unfortunate the ones we want didn’t want to commit early.

More chance from Kilwinning than Kosovo 😉

The window is still open
I know the window is open but going into this vital game with the same players that were well beaten at new year doesn’t fill me with confidence.
I have no faith in this manager to tactically set out his team to win.
I’m just hopeful kevin Nisbet can produce a bit of magic .
Lose on Sunday I fully expect this manager to be gone. Poor appointment again by this board.

That’s McKirdy definitely and Porto I think behind.
Looks like Cadden is back too.
I’ve noticed Hibs training on 3G again before a game - think that’s 3 games in a row they train on a different surface to what we play on. Obviously ground is hard but not ideal.

Play Megwa or miller right back. Cabraja left. Stevenson into midfield with Campbell and Magennis, Stevenson done a job there under Maloney. Gives us a leader at the back, a leader in midfielder, and a goalscorer upfront. Our best bet imo.

This is what I was saying before though, a small squad sounds good in theory but we do actually need a squad of players to cover for injuries and to bring off the bench.
We’re going to have absolutely nothing to bring off the bench on Sunday. He also says a small squad with quality is what he wants but we’ve not brought anyone else in so I don’t get it? It’s the same quality as was here last week minus a few players.

This could be a total pumping on Sunday. What an Absolute mess, I said at the beginning of the season there would be protests before Christmas, if we take a pumping Sunday then now is that time. These charlatans are running us into the ground and taking all enjoyment of the game away from us. Why let guys like Melkersen and kenneh leave when we aren't bringing anyone in imminently. We are now weaker than we were the last time we took a pasting of them, what kind of sensible management is that?
