Plans for the tunnels were in the papers last week and Zelensky gave a run down of the inside, nothing is released by accident. There was an article on here a few days ago saying the daily uk ministry of defence update on the war is done in tandem with Ukraine mod. Its also done knowing that Russia reads it

I see Sky News have covered the story that the Russians claim to have foiled a plot to assassinate that state media television presenter Vladimir Solovyov.
Probably pish, but - there have been quite a few unusual and unexplained things happening in Russia.
There have been more ludicrous suggestions.
Obviously the Ukrainians have denied playing any part, if any plot existed.

I've just been reading about it as bellingcat have been laughing at how poor an attempt by the Russians to say its real and a Ukrainian Nazi plot.
It's brilliant look at the supposed possessions of the not found Ukrainian assassin. Picture of Hitler on the computer, swastika t-shirt (very discreet) and an arsenal of weapons. All for a talk show host. The thing that is puzzling is the prominent 3 sims games placed at the front, did they get asked to plant phone sims?

Here's the list of what they apparently seized in a raid: One IED, eight Molotov cocktails, six Makarov pistols, a sawed-off shot gun, a grenade, over 1,000 rounds of ammo, drugs, forged Ukrainian passports, and "nationalist literature and paraphernalia"
Sounds very realistic
And in these pictures from the raid we have a "Ukrainian neo-Nazi starter pack" courtesy of the FSB.

Breaking news on Russian energy today
1) Habeck declares (on a visit to Poland) that 🇩🇪 could stop oil imports from 🇷🇺 "within a few days"
2) Gazprom cuts off Poland from gas deliveries
You'd guess those two events are related. And they are!
Quite remarkably, almost all of German dependance on Russian oil has been cleared by now - down to just 12%. Much earlier than expected, and without
@BMWK
making a big fuzz about it. Good job!
Only unresolved issue is the oil refinery in Schwedt. /2
https://maz-online.de/Brandenburg/Di
Schwedt is Rosneft (i.e. Putin) property and directly on the Druzhba pipeline
If that connection was closed, we'd effectively be independent of 🇷🇺 oil
But Schwedt shutting down means serious fuel shortage (esp. in North-East 🇩🇪), closure of BER airport, etc. Not an option! /
3Hence, Schwedt needs to be up and running with non-Druzhba oil.
But Rosneft could refuse to do that. It's their refinery, after all
That's why the gov passed a law yesterday allowing to expropriate Rosneft if they don't comply to run on other oil.
/4But where does this "other oil" come from?
The direct pipeline from Rostock to Schwedt is way too small. Some additional shipping via fuel trucks could help, but it's just not enough.
That's where Poland enters the stage.
/5Reason for Habeck's visit to Warsaw was to strike a deal with the Polish gov to connect Schwedt to Gdansk harbour via the Plock pipeline.
With that connection, Schwedt (after expropriation) could continue operation - while we kiss goodbye to Russian oil.
/6Putin's decision to cut off Poland from gas was, basically, a revenge act against the Plock pipeline deal
Polish gov says they can cope, as their dependency on Russian gas is mild
But, obviously, there's another message - to Berlin
/7Namely: if we disconnect Schwedt from Druzhba, Putin's threatens to close gas supply also for Germany
As we all know, consequences would be *very* serious in the short run if that happens
(Gerhard Schröder would resign, too, but that's cold comfort)
/8So, should we be scared? Should we *NOT* disconnect Schwedt from Russian oil, because we fear a tit-for-tat in gas?
No! As I've argued here, I believe we can call Putin's bluff and go for the oil embargo. Gas will still keep flowing. /END
@jsuedekum
April 13
We stop oil imports, hitting Putin quite a bit
But we remain confident that he wouldn't stop gas exports in return, knowing that it has become too costly for him (not only to us)
This new power equilibrium may sustain the gas flows even when an oil embargo is imposed
@jsuedekum
·
Apr 13
when I'm reading correctly between the lines, some EU oil embargo is coming
Sure, we don't want fuel prices to surge before Macron has secured victory. But afterwards, the EU is ready to act. And with every new war crime that is uncovered, it becomes more urgent

We are prepared for this scenario. We are mapping out our coordinated EU response.
Europeans can trust that we stand united and in solidarity with the Member States impacted
I think Gas and Oil will be closing down soon.

What do you mean by 'proving culpability'? In the sense that they were civilians killed at some point in a two week window, possibly by air strikes, yes the time line demonstrates that. That they were executed with a bullet to the back of the head and then left in the streets, in formation, while in other areas apparently the exact opposite thing was happening with mass graves being dug and the evidence hidden, not shown off as trophies? There is no proof of that at all and makes no sense as a military tactic, unless there are multiple Russian units all doing mutilations and murders and then either hiding the evidence or displaying the evidence as intimidatory tactic, depending on what their commander tells them to do at that time. Which one is it? I have no doubt human rights abuses have taken place by russian forces, but laying out those corpses in Bucha made no sense.
Sorry if that doesnt go along with the narrative I think you need to be clear eyed that propaganda is coming from both sides, its ridiculous to imagine it isnt.

Well come back when you've bothered to educate yourself On the subject your talking about. They are all from eye witnesses. They talk of people being shot and left, not by shelling like you insinuated. The satellites and drones show they weren't moved, the Russians just went round them for weeks. The Germans intercepted soldiers admitting it. It's overwhelming. So much so that almost all governments and war crime charities are talking about it as a massacre.
They would have been put in the mass graves or the mobile crematoriums if they hadn't suddenly been defeated. What happened in war used to be told by the victors. You can't get away with that in the days of OSINT, bellingcat ect. Satellite imagery, GPS positioning, time stamped videos and everyone having a phone camera

THREAD: I’ve arrived in Dnipro to begin covering the battle for eastern #Ukraine. Dima has been fighting since early March.
“It’s like WWII but with modern technology. 2014 was a playground compared to this.”
Our greatest ally in this war is #Russia corruption & the nature of its army. The soldier in the field briefs his officer: ‘it’s not good but we’re holding’; next guy reports up: ‘we’re holding’; the next guy: ‘it’s going well! This is why Putin doesn’t know how bad things are.”
I didn’t believe the war would happen bc an invasion needs at least 2-1 numerical superiority. I looked on the borders at the army there & it was clear they didn’t have it. This is crazy.
Sometimes you play poker with a bad hand. #Russia is playing without any cards at all.”
What has shocked me is the callousness of #Russia soldiers to their own men.”
He shows me a photo taken from a drone of soldiers eating lunch in a ruined house near several bodies lying in the dirt.
“They’re eating 20 meters from the decomposing bodies of their comrades
They just drop the bodies of their friends into trenches. Sometimes they don’t even bother to cover them
We found a grave of 15 bodies a while back. They’d thrown bit of dirt on them but that it was it. They don't even respect to the lives of their own comrades. Incredible."
Their tactics are insane. Chernobaivka has a small military airport. 17 times they've tried to take it. 17 times we've smashed them. Still they come.
Our soldiers ask: "Are they dumb?" No, just incapable of independent thought. They just follow orders – no matter how crazy."
Chechen soldiers? Ha We call them TikTok soldiers. They're always filming. We found one who was wounded and trying not to fight but take a selfie."
"Their job is not to fight but to shoot Russian boy conscripts who don't want to fight. It's Soviet tactics.
I want to say one thing:
@elonmusk
's Starlink is what changed the war in #Ukraine's favour. #Russia went out of its way to blow up all our comms. Now they can't. Starlink works under Katyusha fire, under artillery fire. It even works in Mariupol
They use Soviet military tactics, which were out of date 30 years ago. But we study Afghanistan, & Israel. Things have changed!
#Russia tries to press with Mass. Our strategy is simple: to destroy as many targets as possible. But we lack resources so must do it creatively
Look, you can always tell the difference between a partisan strike against a #Russia target & a Russian false flag. The former targets important infrastructure. They just bomb a civilian building or something. Would they ever target something valuable? Not in a million years

Good thread on the current situation. In short, Russia has the artillery advantage just now. Has limited ground troops after massive losses so can't take advantage of that as much as they should. Only a small amount of Ukrainian artillery from other nations has arrived at the front. Ukraine has to contain losses until it gains the advantage

A read a thread that ever since crimea Ukraine hasn't let Russian military get to it, Moldova never did. Its also got no airport. So all the military equipment hasn't been serviced or upgraded since.
There's only about 6000 semi trained soldiers there. It was surmised that it would get taken by Ukraine in a couple of nights, as 45,000 are based on the border. Transnistria government knows this so hasn't even been particularly pro invasion, rather it's sat back quietly

Has Suegray's report into the ennoblement of the other oligarch's son even begun yet, never mind been delayed, redacted, suppressed, or lost? Russian infiltration of the UK is definitely corruptionworthy material. Who knows why he bought that particular piece of land. There's heavy weapons from every major nation in Poland already. Germany has already sent thousands of deadly weapons to Ukraine. Anti tanks, guns and vehicles, all without comment in Russia. Russia is framing this as a nato war.
I'm not sure who really cares what Putin thinks or says anymore. His army is getting blootered by nato weapons and there's not much he can do. Poland has sent 200 tanks and putin is saying nowt, Slovakia air defences, Finland shares a border and its openly sending heavy weapons.

But saying Putin ran the government ect is just stupid, when you look at how the specialist training to the Ukraine army is working now. If Putin controlled Westminster would they have sent tens of millions of pounds of weapons pre war.

hope the evil **** never sees the light of day again when he goes under that knifeI dont believe that, probably more lies, the ******* will see out his victory parade and then scuttle down to his bunker in the Urals or wherever it is. If he is meeting his maker anytime soon then he will make sure a lot more people suffer too. He has very much lost his war and with zero chance of any peace talks then he has zero to lose, he couldnt give a **** about his own people as has been proven with his loss of thousands of his soldiers, generals and equipment

Came across this - its a pretty fair representation of what some Russians think of Ukrainians. Makes it pretty clear bigots are small minded idiots. Made me think of our own, homegrown morons.

Good stuff, keep them coming.
I'm sure the city of Perm is where the Russian 'mint' is located. Produces all of Russias coins and notes as well as the currencies for various other countries. The Stans of Central Asia, some African countries and even the likes of N.Korea, Pakistan and India, though that may no longer be the case.
Funny if that was destroyed as in much of Russia now, its cash only for many purchases.

Any ****er involved in the arms industry?
There is a simple question to ask at this point in a war. You ask, at what point in proceedings do we decide that we have achieved a victory, a partial victory or the best possible outcome in the circumstances and sue for peace, withdrawal, from key areas, whatever. The fact that some people with a brain are discussing when this point comes does not mean they ‘hate the west’, whatever the **** that means. Hating Putin and hating what he’s doing does NOT mean want total, eternal war.

We could provide Zelensky with jet planes and advanced weapons. Pretty soon Putin would be radically escalating the attack on Ukraine, would wipe it out which he has the capacity to do. He would be attacking the supply chains that are providing advanced weapons. And we’d be in a war, which would be a nuclear war, which would wipe us all out.
I’m not criticizing Zelensky; he’s an honorable person and has shown great courage. You can sympathize with his positions. But you can also pay attention to the reality of the world
there are basically two options. One option is to pursue the policy we are now following
to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. And yes, we can pursue that policy with the possibility of nuclear war. Or we can face the reality that the only alternative is a diplomatic settlement, which will be ugly
We know the basic framework is neutralization of Ukraine, some kind of accommodation for the Donbas region, with a high level of autonomy, maybe within some federal structure in Ukraine, and recognizing that, like it or not, Crimea is not on the table. Talking about ‘appeasement’ endlessly suggests there are no geopolitical lessons to be learnt from any period in history since the late 1930s. Bashing Chamberlain and his piece of paper doesn’t change the fact that diplomatic solutions will inevitably be the endgame.

Talking about ‘appeasement’ endlessly suggests there are no geopolitical lessons to be learnt from any period in history since the late 1930s. Bashing Chamberlain and his piece of paper doesn’t change the fact that diplomatic solutions will inevitably be the endgame.
It's nieve to think Putin would have taken a deal, Infact no its not it's stupid as they didn't even want to know.
If Putin did want to deal 6 weeks ago when Chomsky said they should concede, they would have lost massive swathes of their country. They would have had to have made massive concessions on their future ability to defend, fin/swe wouldn't be joining nato, the West wouldn't have set plans to stop buying Russian fuel, Russia wouldn't have an army 50% smaller.
Thank god they fought and everyone helped to prevent further genocide. Hopefully the negotiations start when Russia is out Ukraine, Ukraine in the EU with defence guarantees and Putin the way of Hitler in his Bunker

Russia War Costs Thread
Putin thought he could take Ukraine in 3 days, and his war would cost $1 Billion. His 'Plan B' would take 6 months, cost $12 B
Reality is that in 2 months this war cost Russia $34 B, adding $1 B more every 2 days. A war he cannot win

At the end of the interview, Bodanov says he sees two scenarios for ending the war: the disintegration of Russia or the removal of Putin and relative preservation of RU. Giving Putin a face-saving way out of the war is almost impossible

Welp, looks like Russia wants a fight with Israel. Russian Foreign Ministry says that Israel "supports the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv" and that Lapid saying "“The Jews did not murder themselves in the Holocaust" is "anti-historical.
This comes after Lavrov said that Hitler had Jewish blood and the worst antisemites are Jews. Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador and the sides agreed not to discuss the matter in public anymore. That clearly didn't last very long

"We paid attention to the anti-historical statements of the head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry
@yairlapid
, which largely explain the course of the current Israeli Government to support the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev"
The official Twitter account of the #Russian Foreign Ministry published a post stating that "the current Israeli government allegedly supports neo-Nazi ideology in #Ukraine
Lavrov said "What kind of Nazism can they have if he is a Jew [Zelenskyy]. I could be wrong, but A. Hitler also had Jewish blood. It means absolutely nothing. The wise #Jewish people say that the most ardent anti-Semites are Jews. "The family has its black sheep," as we say.”

I was chatting to a guy on Friday about the events in Ukraine. His wife is Ukrainian and they fled the country on 24th February (they'd been looking after her ill father, who sadly passed away).
He was telling me about where the whole "nazi" thing comes from. Seemingly there was a "holodomor" in Ukraine in 1932/ 1933. This was a famine that killed millions and over the past few decades has been acknowledged (in most places, although it is disputed) as a genocide, inflicted on the Ukrainians by Stalin.
Obviously this stirred up a fair bit of anti-Russian sentiment within Ukraine so when the Germans invaded during WW2, many Ukrainians fought on the side of the Germans rather than the Soviet Union.
This has given way to a general misapprehension amongst many Russians that the Ukrainians are "Nazis". When you get the odd case like the Azov battalion, it is easy to amplify their significance (in terms of numbers and power) in order to paint Ukraine as a nation in need of "denazification", when in truth the opposite is the case.

This historical context absolutely matters. Ukraines role in the old soviet union, spheres of influence, the ghosts of WW2, etc.
The problem is, if you start pretending that the existence of the Azov batallion in a modern armed forces doesnt matter, either because they are 'only' 900 soldiers, or they're entitled to have a neo nazi batallion because they are under existential threat, or its just an anomaly or whatever, you are ignoring something disgraceful and giving Putin all the PR ammunition he needs. Azov have actually played a key role in the early months of the war, were referenced specifically in The Guardian as organising the defence of Mariupol, but with no reference that they were 'that' batallion. Its a strange decision by an administration that is otherwise winning the PR campaign hands down.

Azov has been done to death on here. Its such a small part of the invasion. Not many speak about it now except Russia. Especially as since then there has been a literal genocide happening, Russian soldiers pictures with ss tattoos, the hugely racist wagner group joining Russian fight, Russian soldiers getting medals with nazi symbols on their sleeves and 2 Holocaust survivers being killed by Russia.
Of course just because Russia has Nazis like wagner fighting for them doesn't mean their army is Nazis. But likewise for Ukraine. They have been at war for a decade and have used every able bodied man to protect from the invasion.
As I said before they freed every able bodied man for prison bar dangerous criminals, but you wouldn't say they are pro criminal. They are stopping a slaughter in a war footing

Just because we worked with the Russian to beat Hitler did not make us communists. My enemy’s enemy is my friend. Ukraine faces an existential threat and can’t be picky. To be honest, Europe faces an existential threat with Putin. Democracy is in danger here. Once we defeat him, we can go back to disagreeing with the people we are fighting him with.

Germany was never going to and couldn't give up its anti war stance at the drop of a hat and I'm amazed it has happened so quickly. There's now almost unilateral support for supplying Ukraine with heavy weaponry except from those parties that Putin has been funding and a small faction within his own party.
