1/14 How an ordinary Russian TV viewer (one of whom I currently am) sees it.
I learned about the monstrous events in Bucha yesterday morning from the news that Russia was convening the UN Security Council in connection with the massacre by Ukrainian Nazis in Bucha.
2/14 In the evening, the Channel One anchor explained everything. And I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears:
3/14 "NATO has been preparing he provocation in Bucha for a long time and at the highest level. It is also confirmed by the fact that President Biden called Putin a "butcher" not long ago”.
4/14 “Listen how consonant the English word "butcher" and the name of the city "Bucha" are. This is how the Western audience was subconsciously prepared for this provocation."
5/14 I'm telling you, the monstrosity of lies on federal channels is unimaginable. And, unfortunately, so is its persuasiveness for those who have no access to alternative information.
6/14 My point is that Putin's propaganda has long ceased to be a tool. They are actual warmongers and have become a party in their own right.
7/14 The endlessly squealing anchors and their "experts" are revving up their fury and have long since surpassed the military in their aggressiveness.
8/14 They demand a war to the bitter end, storming Kyiv, bombing Lviv. Even the prospect of a nuclear war does not scare them. They mop up the floor with their fellow Putinists on live television if they as much as hint at the fact that peace talks are a good thing.
9/14 It's such a disgusting uroboros. Politics is a propaganda snake biting its own tail. Propagandists create the kind of public opinion that no longer simply allows Putin to commit war crimes, but demands them of him.
10/14 Warmongers should be treated as war criminals. From the editors-in-chief to the talk show hosts to the news editors, all of this Thousand Hills Radio should be sanctioned now and tried someday.
11/14 I would also like to remind you that the National Media Group, which owns the lion's share of this lie machine, no doubt belongs to Putin personally, which is why it is even formally headed by Putin's mistress Alina Kabaeva (see our investigation "Palace for Putin").
12/14 Most drastic measures should be taken to make the work of these Goebbels heirs more difficult. From a complete ban on the supply and service of equipment, to searching for their assets in the West (which undoubtedly exist) and putting them on visa blacklists
13/14 The monstrous atrocities in Bucha, Irpin and other Ukraininan cities were committed not only by those who tied the hands of peaceful people behind their backs, not only by those who shot them in the back of the head.
14/14 But also by those who stood by and whispered: "Come on, shoot, give us some nice material for our late-night TV show

THREAD from Bucha.
Abc news
We met Mykola. He and his wife spent a month living in the cellar of his apartment building. When the Russians arrived, they killed all the men below 50. He’s 53. He told us this shaking with the trauma of it. They gave him 20 minutes to bury his friends.
Three graves sit just opposite his apartment block. Each marked with a wooden plank and a religious icon attached. He wanted to give them whatever dignity he could. ‘But it’s too shallow,’ he says, almost apologetically. ‘I just wanted to protect them from the dogs
Two of them were shot in front of him. Another had a grenade thrown at him. His body parts sat on the ground for days, until at last he was allowed to gather them, put them in a bag, and bury them. One of these graves is smaller than the others
Russians asked for documentation when they got there. Anything in your papers that made them think you were a threat, and you were dead. He said they made the men strip off, looking for tattoos. Perhaps military tattoos
Russians squatted in their apartments. The regular front rooms of innocent Ukrainian families, turned into the wartime dormitories of drunk, violent thugs. A mess of blankets and old food and contempt
We went to the mass grave satellite images have seen near the church. We saw bags of bodies dumped on top of other victims who were either wrapped in sheets or nothing at all
Brave locals went out to collect the dead from the street during the occupation. We were told there could be as many as 90 people in these graves. This whole town is a crime scene
But a final bit of hope. Aid trucks made it to Bucha today. And residents came out to sing after they made their deliveries. Ludmilla, in blue, is a particular ray of light. Joy

In some cases treble the number of troops expected would turn up for the two-day course near Lviv, in western Ukraine - they were all trained
UK troops also reveal the extent of the training mission for the first time. They trained Ukrainian soldiers in counter-sniper techniques, how to defend against heavy artillery and how to fight in urban battles in locations across the country

Noticed Republicans are slight favourites to win the next election 5/6. tTrump favourite for election and 3/1 compared to next favourites Biden 5/1 next De Santos at 6/1 which might be just as bad. Quite unbelievable and depressing. More positive is Macron 1/5, although a right wing prick its better than Le Pen

#Ukraine: 2 days ago, the Operational Command "East" of the Ukrainian Army posted video that claimed to show "over 40" Russian vehicles destroyed by Ukrainian Artillery fire on a Russian rear base.
We did not publish it, as we couldn't verify the claim or the target. However
It actually turns out that this claim was legitimate, with at least 35 vehicles totally destroyed or damaged; mostly supply or fuel trucks, but with BMP/T-72 variant also. This is a serious blow.

The UK Government "Homes for Ukraine" scheme:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/apr/05/homes-for-ukraine-refugee-britain-hosts
A policy of indifference to the plight of Ukrainian refugees would be morally repugnant, but honest. Millions fleeing the criminal butchery of Vladimir Putin’s army would be told that they were not welcome in Britain and should seek sanctuary elsewhere.
That is not the UK government line. Instead, something more insidious has taken shape – a device for mixing the desperation of displaced people with hospitality offered by the British public, and feeding both into a bureaucratic mangle so every drop of uncertainty and dread can be wrung out. That is the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
Making pain from generosity is an innovation in nastiness that no single Whitehall department could achieve. It takes a special failure of collaboration involving Michael Gove’s Levelling Up department, Priti Patel’s Home Office and the special ingredient – Boris Johnson’s delinquent inattention to detail.
The scheme was launched on 14 March after Downing Street realised that public opinion was appalled by the absence of a fast track for Ukrainian refugees. Gove told MPs that British people, having “opened their hearts”, would also “open their homes”. But Patel held the keys.
By the end of the month, 32,200 applications had been made, and only 4,700 visas issued. Those numbers describe the contours of a bottleneck. They cannot convey what happens inside the bottle, the desperate lives pressed against its glass edges, the slow suffocation of promises, the frightened look back at scenes of cold-blooded massacre and other atrocities in a homeland under threat of genocide.
About 4.2 million refugees have fled Ukraine, with a further 6.5 million internally displaced. One is supposed to be staying with my family in Brighton. We made contact via friends of friends. As sponsors, we helped apply for a visa. The case is now suspended in an administrative void with thousands of others. Just to reach that stage requires navigating an online system that could be the hardest level in a Kafka-themed video game. And you need a computer and a stable internet connection, which are not always available to refugees.
We send what reassurance we can into the blackout, to faces made pale by the light of a phone screen and by fear of Russian missiles. What to say? There is a good news story about the system as it is meant to work. Then there is reality, gleaned from conversations with MPs, charities, local government and Whitehall officials.
There are delays at every junction. Documents uploaded online seem not to be appearing in the UK visa service database. Those applications aren’t even in limbo. They are in the antechamber before limbo. Once across the threshold they enter the “hostile environment” – the notorious Home Office apparatus for limiting numbers of people entering Britain. I am assured that this machine is being repurposed to maximise permissions for Ukrainians, but the infrastructure of rejection is not easily reassembled.
The department’s watchword is security, which means presuming that anyone crossing the border without a British passport is up to no good – fraud, espionage, terrorism. Visas can only be issued once the relevant checks are carried out using a limited number of specialised computers. It all takes time. Desperate mothers and traumatised children are not above suspicion.
The default to mistrust is hardly new. Fear of admitting jihadist interlopers stalks the processing of Syrian and Afghan asylum claims. Even in the second world war, some Jewish refugees from the Third Reich were interned in British prisons because they were citizens of Germany or Austria. The extreme unlikelihood of Jews harbouring secret allegiance to Hitler was not taken into account.
Meanwhile, the rest of Whitehall is grappling with the fierce complexity of an open-ended refugee settlement programme that was just a website when Gove declared it open. British sponsors finding their own matches with Ukrainian refugees is just phase one. The scheme will then be expanded “rapidly” to include charities, churches and community groups.
That upscaling process is happening mostly in circumvention of the Home Office, deemed more an obstacle than a partner. Mobilising the goodwill and spare rooms of the British public was a neat idea in theory that gets untidy on inspection of practicalities. The task falls mostly to local councils, which have to worry about host suitability, standards of accommodation, school places for children who might also need support for trauma. There will be pressure on services that are already rationed by budget cuts.
Refugee charities worry about what happens to new arrivals whose sponsors are disqualified or pull out. What happens when support payments for hosts expire after six months? Already there is a problem of bogus sponsorship by human traffickers and other predators using the government’s vague promise of welcome as cover to harvest victims for exploitation. Such are the gaps in ministerial thinking that civil servants, councillors and voluntary groups are frantically trying to plug. Privately, they say the scheme is more gap than substance – a Potemkin policy launched to dispel bad headlines, with nothing behind it. “Not thought-through” is the phrase I keep hearing.
In other words, the policy for Ukrainian refugees is exactly like every other policy of Johnson’s government. There was a moment of political urgency, a humanitarian crisis that stirred the nation’s conscience. Alarm bells rang in Downing Street, where public opinion must serve as proxy for conscience. The prime minister wanted the ringing to stop. A plan was hatched; not so much a plan as an idea. Barely an idea; a slogan: “Homes for Ukraine”.
Then someone has to deliver the plan. The rhetoric must somehow be lifted off the page, propped up in three dimensions, spread across departments, filled with resources. By then the news caravan has moved on and Downing Street’s focus is elsewhere.
Johnson is clearly enjoying his status as a friend of Ukraine. The emergency has lifted his spirits by relegating domestic scandal down the news running order. But the prime minister’s friendships are always lopsided. He is interested in the rugged soldierly face of war and the new-edition “Boris” action figure in khaki. The complex long-term needs of refugees are less his thing. They can be someone else’s problem, which he sees as a problem solved.
Except these are people’s lives, their hopes. The pledges that have been made to them come not from ministers but from ordinary citizens who are trying to do a decent thing and thought, naively, that the government could help. Now they feel like accomplices in a grotesque hoax of unfathomable cruelty. It is not news that Johnson lets people down. It is one of the constants of his career. Everyone is betrayed in the end. But, with help from an incompetent cabinet, he has outdone himself with the offer to make Britain a place of sanctuary to Ukrainian refugees. Having run out of his own pledges to break, he has stooped to purloining promises from the public and breaking those too.

It's probably a bit simplistic to suggest it boils down to people just choosing to flog a few extra widgets to Russia in the name of pure greed, or for a bit of icing on a cake. Companies will be needing to evaluate the damage that pulling out of that market will do to them.
Obviously you'd like to think that playing an ongoing role in funding genocide would crystallise thoughts somewhat and make people do the right thing.
But I'm prepared to give some folk the benefit of the doubt - to an extent - as they face what must be very difficult decisions to make. Some might not wish to press the self destruct button immediately.
I appreciate that as a Tory tens of millions of pounds is probably pocket change to you , but losing that business might pose an existential threat to some companies, lead to significant job losses etc.

If, for example, Tunnocks are still exporting Caramel Wafers to Russia, they could easily stop. The bad publicity alone would prob cost more than the loss of a bit of trade to Russia.

I'd have thought that doing any sort of trade in Russia right now would be brand suicide - therefore anyone choosing to continue trading would have to have a pretty desperate case for doing so.
I'm often surprised by the business links Scots will have in pretty obscure areas though. My job involves working with the public and you'll speak to people from all sorts of walks of life. You might have bands from yesteryear who have largely been forgotten here but who retain a hardcore following in a peculiar corner of the globe, meaning that there is still great demand for the band to tour there. Then there are specifics to certain parts of the world, some companies have very strong links to particular areas. I guess those oligarchs will enjoy their whisky.
So I have sympathy to companies for maybe not immediately making rash moves that would clearly cause themselves harm.
I have no sympathy for companies who can watch what has unfolded and not feel any sort of impetus to make a very necessary change now though.

Not sure if anyone has seen it, I walked into a supermarket this evening on the way home from work, to see the front page of (I think) the mirror, with the picture of the back of a 2 year old girl, who’s mother had written her daughter’s name, date of birth and other details on her wee girl’s back, in case they got separated trying to evacuate, so that her daughter would be able to be identified and taken care of. Was fighting tears looking at it and tbh still am as I think about it.

#breaking: German intelligence has intercepted radio transmissions from Russian military officers in which murders of civilians in Butscha were discussed. Some of them are said to be related to specific corpses photographed in Bucha.
@derspiegel
The BND intercepts suggest that these were neither random acts nor the actions of individual soldiers who got out of hand. Rather, the material reportedly suggests that the soldiers were talking about the atrocities as if they were talking about their everyday lives
These BND findings indicate that killings of civilians have become part of the Russian military's usual actions, according to Berlin sources, possibly part of a clear strategy [to] spread fear and terror among the civilian population and to stifle resistance.
The material is also said to show that members of Russian mercenary troops such as "Wagner Group" were significantly involved in the atrocities. The latter had already attracted attention for their particular cruelty during their deployment in Syria

Indeed we can't send a plane because that is attacking, but we can send missles, nlaws, drones with missles, guns and grenades ect. They said they couldn't send tanks bit the Czechs have just sent dozens and nothing is happening to them, probably as Russia has all its troops fighting a war. I think nato would rather just use Ukrainians as fodder and go for Russia in a few months when it's almost spent

In the earlier vote condemning the war and asking for Russian retreat only Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea voted against. Says it all.
one can only hope democracies around the world already have forward planning ready for when(not IF) China does attack Taiwan/elsewhere
as much as i detest Trump i did agree with one of his policies, his tougher stance against China

It's went from 140 to the dollar down to 80 in the last 4 weeks, all their efforts have brought it back to what it was. But it's false as no one will buy it and the can't exchange it so won't get a good reading until that changes. Economy has contracted to the lowest point in 30 years. The main thing is its only just over a month, this isn't sustainable.

SCOOP & BREAKING NEWS:
Slovakia has now delivered its S-300 long-range SAM missile defense system to UA!
Days ago, Visegrad24 received this video of the transfer from a railway worker but didn’t publish it since it wasn’t public news
The secret move lasted two days.
It’s no surprise that the news became public now since Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger is visiting President Zelensky in Kyiv today.
Slovakia only had one S-300 battery (4 launchers) so they sent everything they had to Ukraine.
S-300can deny wide areas and force planes to fly low to avoid the radar, which in turn exposes them to MANPADS.
The radar range is 300km and the missile range is 150km.
Ukraine will be fed live intelligence from the US and NATO allies on the position of Russian planes

Warning: graphic. Horrific images & reports from Kramatorsk train station where state railway company board chairman Oleksandr Kamyshin says more than 30 people killed, 100+ others injured in a Russian rocket attack. 1000s of civilians fleeing the Donbas were there
At least one Tochka-U rocket struck the Kramatorsk train station, according to Oleksandr Kamyshin of the state railway company. He said the attacked damaged infrastructure and forced the station closed. Nearby Slovyansk just a few km north is still working
Zelensky commented on the Kramatorsk attack on Telegram: “Lacking the strength and courage to stand up to us on the battlefield, [Russian forces] are cynically destroying the civilian population. This is an evil that has no limits. And if it is not punished, it will never stop

I strongly condemn this morning’s indiscriminate attack against a train station in #Kramatorsk by Russia, which killed dozens of people and left many more wounded. This is yet another attempt to close escape routes for those fleeing this unjustified war and cause human suffering

This was how Kramatorsk train station looked before the Russian rocket attacked. Crowds of civilians, including children, scrambling to flee the Donbas as Putin’s forces bear down on the eastern region
Just like with MH17, pro-Kremlin bloggers posted footage of what they said was a Russian attack on Kramatorsk – then deleted them once the civilian toll was clear https://theins.ru/news/250117
Death toll in Kramatorsk appears to be rising. Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) spox Artem Dekhtiarenko wrote on Facebook 39 people killed including four children. State railway company board chairman Kamyshin confirmed in an update on Telegram at least two children killed
Kramatorsk’s mayor also said about 4,000 people were at the train station when the Russian attack occurred

Russians knew that the train station in Kramatorsk was full of civilians waiting to be evacuated. Yet they stroke it with a ballistic missile, killing at least 30 and injuring at least a hundred people. This was a deliberate slaughter. We will bring each war criminal to justice

1. Civilians who escaped Mariupol in recent days have described the growing desperation in the besieged city, including accounts of bodies buried in shallow graves, looting by Chechen fighters, and starving residents being killed when they venture out of shelters to find water
The evacuee's accounts to the BBC are emerging as they reach the town of #Zaporizhzhia which is acting as a hub for refugees. They have risked journeys through Russian and Ukrainian lines that the Red Cross describes as an evacuation "from hell
In one aid facility was Yuliia, her two daughters and her mum Tatiana. They said many people having to remain in #Mariupol’s basements and obliterated apartment buildings are "the incapacitated" - a reference to elderly and disabled people
She said: "When we were in Mariupol, Chechens were looting. They were taking people's gold. It was becoming really dangerous, we heard they were raping women. I was frightened for my kids and I realised we had to get them out in any way possible
Anna, escaped to Berdyansk 50 miles away. She said "Mariupol is a graveyard now. All the neighbourhoods are covered in the graves of civilians. It was terrifying… Not everybody got out. We have relatives… we don't know if they are alive or not

US is doing well on weaponry but can still do a lot more. Everyone needs to stop blocking heavier weaponry.

Sure everybody could do more but they all have restrictions as to what they can do for different reasons, some more valid than others. It doesn't change the fact that there is only one person responsible for the barbaric scenes we're witnessing in Ukraine and the anti Russian coalition blaming each other for our failings is only deflecting from that. Rather than criticising what we're all doing wrong we should be supporting each other doing what we can, anything else is going to weaken the coalition and strengthen Putin's hand.

Nobody has clean hands here. Uk has done well on providing weaponry (I’d argue this is most important part) but terribly on sanctions and refugees. EU has done well on refugees but awful on Gas sanctions. It has also done better on individual sanctions.
US is doing well on weaponry but can still do a lot more. Everyone needs to stop blocking heavier weaponry.
I think it’s fair for us all to point out where others are not pulling their weight.

Uk needs to get it's act together and agree to stop oil now. Apparently its only Germany and Hungary not wanting to in Europe although Hungary is swaying. Everyone in Europe will have a monetary cost but manageable. Many now saying it will stop Russia in months
Full embargo on oil could stop war - ex-Putin aide
By Jonathan Josephs
Business reporter, BBC News
A "real embargo" on Russian energy by Western countries could stop war in Ukraine, President Putin's former chief economic adviser has suggested.
Dr Andrei Illarionov said Russia "did not take seriously" other countries' threats to reduce their energy usage.
Despite trying to reduce its reliance on Russian sources, Europe is continuing to buy oil and gas.
Last year, soaring prices meant oil and gas revenues accounted for 36% of Russia's government spending.
Much of that income comes from the European Union, which imports about 40% of its gas and 27% of its oil from Russia.
This week, its top diplomat Josep Borrell said "a billion [euros] is what we pay Putin every day for the energy he supplies us
Dr Illarionov said if Western countries "would try to implement a real embargo on oil and gas exports from Russia... I would bet that probably within a month or two, Russian military operations in Ukraine, probably will be ceased, will be stopped".
"It's one of the very effective instruments still in the possession of the Western countries," he added
While the oil and gas trade has continued during the conflict, widespread sanctions mean that a lot of other economic activity has stopped, many foreign companies have pulled out and exports have been disrupted.
One recent survey by Russia's own central bank even forecasts the economy will shrink by 8% this year, while the International Institute of Finance says it could fall by as much as 15%.
Dr Illarionov suggested that President Putin was prepared to endure a hit to the economy that shows where his priorities lie.
"His territorial ambitions, his imperial ambitions, are much more important than anything else, including the livelihood of the Russian population and of the financial situation in the country... even the financial state of the his government," he said
Last week, amid tensions with Europe over how gas would be paid for, President Putin said that "key indicators" of the health of the Russian economy include the "creation of jobs, the reduction of poverty and inequality, the improvement of the quality of life of people, the availability of goods and services".
World Bank figures suggest that almost 20 million Russians live in poverty.
President Putin has, in recent years, pledged to halve that number.
Now Dr Illarionov said "we'll see probably doubling the number of those people, maybe even tripling" as the economy struggles
The Moscow-based think tank, the Centre for Strategic Research, estimated two million jobs could be lost this year as the unemployment rate rises from a record low.
Those concerns are shared by Vladimir Milov, who is a former Russian deputy energy minister, but is now part of Alexei Navalny's Russia of the Future opposition party.
"Many people are concerned about losing their jobs, I think it's just that the majority does not really realise the severity of the economic situation," he said.
Inflation, which has already risen to 15.7% because of the war, means people might stop spending money on things such as gyms and meals in restaurants and "that's bad news for a lot of small businesses", said Mr Milov.
Some basic food items such as sugar, onions and cabbages have risen in price by more than 40% since the start of this year.
Mr Milov said any noticeable falls in living standards would help his party's cause as an opposition.
"We have been explaining to people all along [that] Putin's policy would lead Russia into a catastrophe, including a complete social and economic catastrophe, including [a] deterioration of living standards that we haven't seen in decades," he said.
"I have to say that comes at an extremely high price. We would prefer not to see what is happening today
However Mr Milov, who fled to Lithuania last year, thinks it will take time for falling living standards to translate to political change.
"Russia is a country with big inertia in society, and a lot of fear instigated by the authorities. Specifically people really are very much afraid of protesting because right now they can end up in jail for a long, long time for doing that".
He added: "But I would say [that within a] few months [of] real deep economic trouble, that we haven't seen in 30 years, it will change the mood of the society. More people will start to speak out loudly
President Putin's former adviser Dr Andrei Illarionov, who now lives in the United States, said a change of government is inevitable "sooner or later".
He said "it is absolutely impossible to have any positive future for Russia, with the current political regime".
Under President Putin, he suggested, "there is no way that country might be integrated back into the international relations, in the world economy".
You can watch Dr Andrei Illarionov and Vladimir Milov's interviews on Talking Business with Aaron Heslehurst this weekend

The financial ratings agency S&P Global has deemed Russia to be in "selective default" on some of its foreign debt after it tried to pay its latest obligations in rubles.
Because of U.S. government sanctions, the agency said, investors lack the ability to convert the rubles into dollars. S&P had already warned that any payment in a currency different from the one in which the debt was sold would be considered a failure to pay
Last week, the U.S. Treasury Department blocked Russia's ability to pay debt using dollar reserves held in U.S. banks. A Treasury spokesperson told Reuters that the action was aimed at forcing Russia to draw down its domestic dollar reserves in a bid to further curtail the country's spending on its war against Ukraine.
Russia must choose between draining remaining valuable dollar reserves or new revenue coming in, or default,” the spokesperson said.
The country hasn’t defaulted on its foreign debt since the Bolshevik Revolution of 1918.
A Russian Finance Ministry spokesman said it considered its obligations fulfilled via the rubles payment. But S&P indicated that ongoing sanctions pressure would limit the ability of Russia to pay its debts.
“Sanctions on Russia are likely to be further increased in the coming weeks, hampering Russia’s willingness and technical abilities to honor the terms and conditions of its obligations to foreign debt holders,” it said

Russia’s mobilisation along Ukraine border is ‘clearly defensive’, Wallace and Daly say
Ms Daly and Mr Wallace have described the
European Parliament as being “anti-Russian”, while positions tabled on Russian issues by Mr Wallace have caused tensions within the Left group of which he is a member in the parliament.
Warning
Russia has sent more than 100,000 troops and much heavy weaponry towards Ukraine in recent weeks, and threatened to take “military-technical” action if Nato refuses to bar Ukraine and other eastern Europe states from joining the alliance and does not withdraw its forces from the region – demands that Washington calls “non-starters
However, Ms Daly, a Dublin MEP, has claimed there is “no evidence that Russia has any desire to invade Ukraine, it would be of no benefit to them”, adding that the Russian “mobilisation is clearly defensive”. She said Russian claims that their moves are defensive “stands up to scrutiny”, and that Russia was reacting in response to Nato pushing farther and farther towards its borders, and the arming of Ukraine by western powers. She said that “Russian involvement in Crimea has the clear support of the majority of the population in that area”, referring to the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine by Russia in 2014.

I'd try any angle possible to make a difference that doesn't mean making concessions.
As to self-sufficiency, do they not have enough food and fuel to more than meet their population's needs? I'd have to have an in-depth knowledge of the psyche of the general Russian population to understand what they need beyond that.

Change, undoubtedly, but it's obviously impossible to say the nature of it. As they're self-sufficient in almost everything, I'd say North Korea plus. I suppose their biggest problem might be a continuing brain-drain.
This is a huge problem for Russia.
Good podcast here on their demographics and the problems they face in future because of their policies of their past.

This is what mothers experience daily in Ukraine.

🇺🇦 Mariupol: Grave concern as multiple reports of Chemical Weapons use over besieged city following Russian state media RIA Novosti warnings and Putin's installation of Gen 'Butcher of Syria' Dvornikov - widely understood to have repeatedly used banned weapons on Allepo defenders
In the replies, from same MEP in January
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/russia-s-mobilisation-along-ukraine-border-is-clearly-defensive-wallace-and-daly-say-1.4786363
She said that “Russian involvement in Crimea has the clear support of the majority of the population in that area”, referring to the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine by Russia in 2014.Another politician bought and paid for.

Mariupol could be saved only if Ukraine gets more really powerful weapons. Tanks, MIGs, more armour for our soldiers. Our people are dying there. Ffs, leaders of the free world would rather throw more money then give what Ukraine needs. #ArmUkraineNow

Russia 'moves heavy military equipment towards Finnish border' - World News Day (https://www.worldnewsday.com/2022/04/12/russia-moves-heavy-military-equipment-towards-finnish-border/)
Russian heavy weapons including missile systems have been seen moving towards the border with Finland, hours after Russia warned its northern neighbour against joining NATO.
An unconfirmed video uploaded last night appears to show two Russian coastal defence missile systems moving along a road on the Russian side of the border that leads to Helsinki.
Recent opinions polls by a Finnish market research company put a whopping 84% of Fins as viewing Russia as a 'significant military threat', up by 25% on last year.
In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov euphemistically warned the move would 'not improve' the security situation in Europe, and Moscow lawmaker Vladimir Dzhabarov added more bluntly it would mean 'the destruction of the country'.

Finland has a very modern large army. Some of the most modern anti aircraft, tanks and jets. Russia is posturing, they just can't fight on another front right now. If they can't take Ukraine they can't take Finland and certainly not both at once. Once they join nato it's game over for Russian expansion there

🔺 NEW: A “Stalinist” mass purge of Russian secret intelligence is under way after more than 100 agents were removed from their jobs and the head of the department responsible for Ukraine was sent to prison https://thetimes.co.uk/article/putin
In a sign of President Putin’s fury over the failures of the invasion, about 150 Federal Security Bureau (FSB) officers have been dismissed, including some who have been arrested
All of those ousted were employees of the Fifth Service, a division set up in 1998, when Putin was director of the FSB, to carry out operations in the countries of the former Soviet Union with the aim of keeping them within Russia’s orbit
The service’s former chief, Sergei Beseda, 68, has been sent to Lefortovo prison in Moscow after he was placed under house arrest last month.
The prison was used by the NKVD for interrogation and torture during Stalin’s Great Purge of the 1930s

It’s clear that Germany is not doing enough. They need to decide which side they are on. If they can’t cut the Gas then they need to massively increase the military aid to Ukraine and stop constantly blocking it.

It's verging on funding a war. Multiple Russian specialists and economists have said the war is over in months if the oil sales stop. Its said it would be a smaller hit to Germany than covid. I think Greece had debts with German banks. Portugal, as far as I can remember, had a hole in its public accounts after propping up their banks and financing the debt became more expensive due to the risk of default/speculation. I don't remember Germany being directly involved like it was with Greece (obviously the ECB ≈ Bundesbank, however):

Looking back, it could be argued that the intervention helped the Portuguese reorganise.

Germany has made itself dependent on Russian gas, that's a fact of life and despite their best efforts that's not going to change soon. Ushering in an economic depression to europes powerhouse would throw the rest of Europe under a bus too.
As I posted a few weeks ago, Germany has made some naive political decisions, but all for the right reasons. Asking Germany to change its anti-war philosophy would be like asking England to abolish the monarchy, it'll happen, just don't hold your breath.

I agree that stopping the gas is very difficult but it should recognise that and make sure they are going the extra mile to help Ukraine in every other respect. It is falling way short of that. Ukraine needs weaponry that they are willing to pay for from German manufacturers and the German govt is blocking it. That’s a disgrace.
When you give one side of a conflict nearly a billion € a day and you block the other side from purchasing weapons then its easy to see why some might doubt their commitment.
