Summer transfer thread

It's the elephant in the room but people are angsty whether they care to admit it or not that Hearts have undoubtedly strenghtened and are sitting top of the league. They have obviously got money from somewhere and are rolling the dice. We were miles ahead of them last year. Since then they have improved - that is pretty evideny - and we have weakened which is also pretty clear. Have they done enough to close the massive chasm gap or just reduce it? Time will tell. In the meantime Hibees are on edge.

We are not on the edge. We are in transition and as far as I see it we are doing a good job of it. Of the starting line up vs Dons there is easily 5 changes to the starting line up with players already signed. If we signed a couple more that could be 6-7 changes. That’s huge. Don’t know why folks seem so negative.

I am happy with the squad at the moment. We have two players, a winger and a centre midfielder who can play at the back who have not even featured yet so stop panicking. There is also lots of unattached players who we can still sign after todays window closes if need be.

We have lost 3 of Scotland's best midfielders in one window

Totally agree with this, we had our best midfield since Cropley, Stanton and Edwards and all three gone which would weaken any team. Trust Lennon and we have brought in some decent players, but with the present squad, I do worry if we get unlucky with injuries and/or suspensions, particularly up up top, where using Boyle as a fill in striker weakens us massively when it comes to the creation of chances from out wide.

Strange post. I've only dipped in and out of this thread every so often, but as far as I can see TheCat23 has been pretty much the only poster to have called any signings right. He was spot on with Kamberi, Mallan and MacLaren who are arguably our marquee trio. He didn't call it right on Barker, but three out of four is good form and I think it's reasonable to assume Hibs did at least talk to Man City about bringing Barker back. As for Scott Allan, Lennon himself said something to the effect that he was one for 'further down the line' which I took to mean that it'd be nearer the end of August before that deal could be completed. So unless by further down the line he meant the January transfer window, what he's said today about us never being in for Allan this window is inaccurate.

If things fell through on deals we knew about, and there's no doubt that happens every window, there'd be hefty doses of disappointment among every fanbase, every window. As well as summoning up all the bams who cant wait to stick the knife into the board it would be incredibly naïve way to do business. Pre agents, deals were completed often in total secrecy from the buyers end as they didn't want a players availability known to rival buyers. There will be an element of that these days, for whatever reasons. Whether any of things applies to the SA deal isn't really any of our business at the moment.

You are spot on. My reply was tounge in cheek. Hibs would have been speaking to many clubs and agents this week. Agents will be offering players to hibs etc. Lots of things need to fall into place. I’m sure if he’s vs offer 500k for Allan, then they will put thier dummy back in and agree a deal

We may have lost those midfielders but IMO one of our downfalls last season was goals from the middle of the park. It looks like Mallan and Horgan could well address that issue.

Brandon Barker only really came onto a game the last few months of the season, if Agyepong can hit the ground running then that'll be another bonus.

You may end up being right however it is far from obvious at this stage IMO.

Celtic, Rangers and Hearts are all on the lookout for a centre back as well as the likes of Kilmarnock and Dundee.

The 23-year-old has spent most of his career out on loan at clubs such as Cheltenham, Port Vale and Colchester and Roy Hodson has revealed he will leave Selhurst Park.

Inniss was jailed for 14 weeks in prison for assault which was later reduced to community service on appeal.

Thinking about the players we've signed, I'm not convinced we've signed entirely different types of players from those who left.

Mallan could very much be similar to McGeouch. Dylan was could find a pass, bring the ball down and start attacks when he first joined, but it wasn't until recently he had cut out the bad habits of losing his man and getting caught wrong side.I don't think Mallan can come out of a ruck of players like Dylan, but he can hit a dead ball. Some similarities there.

Horgan isn't as good at protecting the ball as SJM, but he's certainly brave, and bursts forward with the ball at his feet. He's a bit of a mini hulk too.

Milligan is the new prospect in the team. A proper defensive mid, who has experience, reads the game and is strong. I think he may bring that game management that Lennon is looking for, but we won't know until it happens.

I don't know what to make of Hyndman.

From what I hear about Agyepong, he'll frustrate and delight in equal measure. Hopefully he doesn't take 6 months to develop a final ball like Barker, and then disappear to show good he can be elsewhere!

And we've got Swanson, Slivka and Marvin backing them up.

My Palace pals feel he will be released at the end of this season and although that doesn't mean his career would be over it doesn't look like he could step straight in to the Hibs side.

Yeah maybe pish was a bit harsh, I just don’t feel after the season we had last season we have taken big strides to push on again and showen a bit ambition. We can’t go through the season either the squad we have and expect to compete on every front again imo. We are light up top, boyles better out wide and shaw should be used sparingly as don’t think he’s at the levels needed to regularly hang your hat on. Lose flo and I think we look light.

End of the day as always will trust Lennons judgement, one or 2 we surprises additions tonight and I may have a different outlook 👍😉

The problem is that we've seen very little of most of our signings so far this season, and what we have seen of them has generally been in a patched up side.

Milligan and Agyepong - could both be magnificent players, we're yet to see either kick a ball.

Kamberi and McLaren - we all know what they're capable of, neither of them have been fit enough to make much of a contribution yet.

Horgan - one start, one motm performance.

Mallan - been here for no time, already scored 6 goals. How many of our midfielders have scored 6 goals in a season recently? He's got 6 before August is out.

Hyndman - good pedigree, has looked tidy enough in patches.

Chuck in someone like David Gray re-emerging like a new signing and Ryan Porteous impressing in the outings he's had and I think there's a lot to be positive about.

Losing McGinn and McGeough had the potential to be a nightmare - hopefully we've avoided that.

My glass is much, much more than half full.

Some info turns out not to be correct, some not so, are you and the other grief giving posters jealous, it certainly seems that way.
