We've got some great signings in but to counter your comment - we still aren't stronger than last season.
2 of our signings were here last season...
I hope we get stronger than last season still.
Not stronger than we finished last season, agreed....I would argue, a lot stronger than we started it.
3 Good goalies now
Mallan and Slivka vs Dylan in the middle
Sounds like Barker being replaced by the next Man City speedster
Flo and Mac attack vs Murray and the Firestarter.
I think we are stronger now.

Mginn to Everton on Monday/Tues with Defensive midfielder Alexander Denny coming on loan. Tried to get Dowell but loaning back out to championship side.
Maclaren looking to be announced on Mon/Tues aswell really depending on Mcginn deal as may want to announce after or before he goes.
Take of that what you will, im logging off and will come back on when announced, some people calling me a liar etc...

Agreed. I want us to be stronger than we finished last season though. My opinion is we are roughly the same when/if we get this winger over the line. Any players after that and we are getting in to territory of being stronger, dependent on McGinn situation of course.

If John goes South and we get a decent transfer fee for him then we will be in in a strong position to offer smelltic at least £5000 for Scott.

you said the deal would be announced next week that mcginn is going to everton so surely if it was a done deal the club wouldnt be taking to other clubs if a contract was signed, the other players coming in wasnt really hard to name seeing as everyone knew about them

£1m doesn’t seem that astonishing to me to be getting a current Ivory Coast international, obviously has his careless moment or two but reminds me of Sol Bamba.

Allan should be well out of our reach with the performances he puts in in a Hibs strip. The fact he can’t seem to do it anywhere else plays into our hands. We need to get it done.

Disagree personally. Porteous can come in for 1, and if 2 are injured then D. Gray/Bartley can cover in an emergency (or Lewis if you look at Ibrox); or we can change to a back 4.
Allocating budget to a 5th centre back is a waste better spent elsewhere.
A 4th striker however...

I think we’ll bring in a big lump of a player to be our fourth striker.
Someone that’s probably not a particularly good player but is a pest to opposition defences and wins headers in the box, the sort of guy you put on with 10 minutes to go if we’re wanting to get balls in the box. Similar to the reason Brian Graham was signed, hopefully someone better than him though.

I agree, I think we'll get a target man before the window closes. Lennon's record with these (Brian Graham and big Dave) hasn't exactly been great so hopefully we'll see an improved version.
We definitely need cover for Lewis. Whittaker playing there would give me nightmares. We could sign a left sided defender that is comfortable playing left back and left sided centre back as that'd give us good cover at the back. Maybe a young boy on loan from an English side.
With MacLaren and Agyepong in it's starting to take shape though :nlgwa

It's great to see us negotiate these kind of deals. Jamie has a great year and we're first in the queue for for him.
Also nice statement of intent by the club as not many teams in Scotland are near paying that kind of money.

A bit of a double edged sword. If he has a great season, he will generate interest from clubs down south, who will be able to pay Darmstadt a bigger fee plus pay Jamie 4 or 5 times the best we could offer in the way of salary.
However, like Kamberi - never say never! :greengrin

Exactly, even if someone offered Darmstadt £10m it wouldn’t matter aslong as Jamie wanted to sign for Hibs then we’d get it done before that team could be allowed to speak to him.

Yeah the option itself doesn't mean much. If he has a blinding season and clubs from down south want him he'd just not agree terms and then negotiate with them.
We obviously want him to have a great season but it's abit of a double edged sword as the better he plays the less likely we are to keep him for another year.

Of course that’s why I said if Mclaren and Hibs want the deal done then it will happen irrespective of what other teams come in and it will be done at a far reduced rate than other teams would get that’s the good thing about these loan deals, pretty straight forward.

Yes, I just think it's uncommon for a footballer to be happy with coming to a club like Hibs irrespective of other options. It's better to have it than just having a normal loan though. :agree:

Not to much lately but he is enjoying it and thinks Livvi will be a breath of fresh air to the league. He’s very strong minded so don’t be surprised if he does actually pull off a few good results and stay up.

If he is already registered at Man City, he must have a work permit already. Work permits are nothing to do with the FA or SFA and apply across the whole UK. We are not buying him, so he is not changing employer, so I am flummoxed by this extended delay.

Pretty sure Jamie wanted a permanent move, maybe too big a fee with 2 yrs left, hence a lower fee next year.

here is a question that I don’t think has been asked about the whole option to buy thing.
Can we activate the option to turn the loan into a permanent deal at any time up to the agreed date next summer?
For example could we do the rest of our transfer business during the window being opened and come the 1st September pay Darmstadt the required fee if we have it from McGinn’s sale and our European payments and get him signed up on permanent contract.

I’m sure we could but probably wouldn’t be the best for the player or us. At the moment he is still getting £8k a week. Parent club probably pay 60% and we pay the rest. If we signed him now he’d lose money.

Wherther or not he’s coming to us, he needs to leave Celtic

Maybe Aberdeen want him, as part of the deal for McKenna
They are out of Europe losing key players and struggling to get Transfer Targets over the line
They missed out on Dylan so wouldn't surprise me if they went for Scotty particularly if they think we are interested
They are desperate to cling on to second and that's why we should go for it this year and make sure rivals that we are competing with in top six don't get players want

Was just going to post that.
If they miss out on him now due to their boards penny pinching there’ll be hell to pay. I know he’ll be Cup tied for Europe but I think they’ll feel like they need to get him now regardless.

Unrealistic to think Aberdeen would want to sign SA just because we are interested in signing him.
As for Hibs, same thing. We sign him because we want him in our team, not because he might sign for Aberdeen.
At the end of the day, SA would have the decision as to make whether he signs for us or them, if he had that choice.

Celtic will be linked with any Scottish based player that would help a team pose a threat to their domestic dominance

How bad is that Nitchams injury?
here is a question that I don’t think has been asked about the whole option to buy thing.
I mentioned on another post that MacLaren has 2 years to run on his contract, if we got him now maybe the fee would be nearer £800k, so cheaper option next year with 1 year left at £400k.

£100k would be £100k more than he’s worth to Celtic. If rumours of his wage are correct he’s currently around a £500k per year drain on their finances with no prospect of that changing.
They could pay off him around £250k and we’d take him off their hands for him and they’ve just saved £250k......which is a lot of money, even if it doesn’t seem it in the current market.
Scott Allan has absolutely zero value in the transfer market just now as he is of no value at all to Celtic.

Why? What do they have to gain by keeping him for a year when he won’t play for them? They have almost £500k to lose by taking that stance.

Because somebody out there, Aberdeen, Sunderland, Salford City, or us, off the top of my head, might just think he is worth a punt.

He’s not handing out freebies though, he’s trying to save his club almost £500k
They took a punt on a transfer that hasn’t worked, i’m Sure he’s a smart businessman and in any business sometimes you have to cut your losses on poor investments.
Other clubs may step forward and be willing to take him off their hands but nobody is going to be offering decent money for him. Given his lack of success else where I doubt there’s going to be many clubs wanting him, thankfully for us.

Firstly, I very much doubt he’s on 500k a year. Secondly, they won’t be keeping him for a year because someone will offer money for him. He’ll be gone soon enough. I can well imagine Aberdeen offering 250 k for him. He’s better than anything they have.

£9k a week is the rumour that has been on here for a while, I was just working from that.
If Aberdeen were going to offer that much for him they would have done so by now, if they’re interested in him they’ll be following the same logic as us and waiting to see if he gets paid off or to get him on loan.

Bingo
Aforesaid Mr Lawwell would not be doing his job properly for as well as saving a theoretical £500k a year, he did not try to extricate a transfer fee out of a potential suitor, whether he gets one or not.
Or am I just being stupid?

I think he’ll want a transfer fee but as the transfer window gets ready to slam shut he’ll realise that’s no happening so will need to try and cut his losses as best he can......IMO that’s when the likes of Hibs and Eberdeen will be ready to pounce.
It’s not a question of stupidity, just a difference of opinions, time will tell who ends up being right but imo Allan will end up joining us and I’d be amazed if we paid any transfer fee, or if we do it’ll be a minimal amount.

And all their champions league money from last season.....as well as their already massive revenue from league wins, trophy wins, huge crowds and merchandising.
Absolutely scandalous how they’ve dealt with this transfer and whoever it was that thought £1.5m was a suitable initial bid should get shot.
I totally get that they need to negotiate the best fee they can get but the fact they’re 3 or 4 bids in and still not got him suggests they don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

I have described them as parasites on this thread and others. That is the reason why! They believe they have a god given right to hoover up any young Scottish talent at the lowest price possible and then sell them if they can for huge profit if they can. They also buy others i.e. Scott Allan relatively cheaply and then don't play them. They then moan about lack of competition in Scotland when they get pumped in Europe. My dream for SJM is that he signs for an English club for a fee that we are happy with, goes on to better things and never ever sets foot inside parkhead again.
